Fro-yo girl here. I pass by Yogurtland on Lake in Pasadena multiple times a week. Today I noticed that it looked different. They just remodeled the interior. The green and white square tile walls have been replaced by a sleeker faux wood look. They also added some decals and a neon sign that says Share Love, Joy, & Hope.

Second 2025 Price Hike at Yogurtland Lake in Pasadena

 

Fro-yo girl here. Froyo prices are rising again. Yogurtland on Lake in Pasadena just increased the price from $0.77/oz to $0.79/oz. That’s only the second price hike this year. In 2024, they increased the prices three times. I hope it stays at $0.79/oz at least till the end of this year. They always raise prices in January.

Price Hike at Yogurtland Lake in Pasadena

 

Fro-yo girl here. It’s a new year and that almost always means a price increase at Yogurtland Lake in Pasadena. I can’t think of any January when they haven’t had a price increase.

Last January, they went from charging $0.67/oz in December 2023, to $0.69/oz in January 2024. In February 2024, the price was increased to $0.71/oz. In March, it went up to $0.75/oz. It remained at $0.75/oz till now. The price is now $0.77/oz. The price went up three times last year. Crazy. I think it was the first time they had three price increases in one year?

Prices Increase For the Third Time This Year at Yogurtland Pasadena On Lake Avenue

 

Fro-yo girl here. In January 2024, I thought I saw a sign saying that the price per ounce at Yogurtland Pasadena on Lake Avenue was $0.69/oz. It was $0.67/oz in December 2023. The price was increased to $0.71/oz in February, crossing the $0.70/oz threshold that many froyo shops were hovering just below.

Amazingly, the price just went up again in March, to $0.75/oz. That’s three price hikes in three months. Seems crazy?

Prices Increase Again at Yogurtland Pasadena On Lake Avenue

Fro-yo girl here. In January, I thought I saw a sign saying that the price per ounce at Yogurtland Pasadena on Lake Avenue was $0.69/oz. It was $0.67/oz in December 2023. The price just went up again, to $0.71/oz, crossing the $0.70/oz threshold that many froyo shops were hovering just below.

Expect to see more price increases at froyo shops in California, particularly for the larger chains. Starting April 2024, fast-food workers in California who work for chains with 60 or more locations across the US will earn a minimum of $20/hr. The current minimum wage in California is $16/hr.

This will directly affect Yogurtland, Menchie’s, and sweetFrog locations in California.

Yogurtland Coming Soon to East Pasadena

Fro-yo girl here. This one caught me by surprise; Yogurtland is opening in East Pasadena. The address is 259 Sierra Madre Villa Ave., Unit 103, Pasadena, CA 91107. It’s right next to Pasadena Sandwich Company and across the street from Bed Bath and Beyond (which is closing). The Yogurtland sign is up! The windows are covered.

There is a Yogurtland in Pasadena on Lake Ave. and there was one in Old Town Pasadena on Colorado Blvd.

Yogurtland Online Ordering Experience

 

Fro-yo girl here. Yogurtland sent a $5 coupon to Real Rewards members for online ordering this week. The offer expires on March 14, 2022 and applies only to orders placed on the Yogurtland website or Yogurtland app (and not for third party delivery orders or gift card purchase). I wasn’t sure of what to expect but I decided to place an online order.

First, you choose the location you want to pick the froyo up from or have it delivered from. Choose the flavor, quantity (number of cups), cup size (regular or large), and topping(s). The prices vary by location. For example, Yogurtland Eagle Rock charges $7.25 for a regular size cup and $9.25 for a large. Yogurtland Pasadena charges $7 for a regular cup and $9.50 for a large. A regular cup is the 16 oz cup while the large is the 24 oz cup. Each topping costs extra (e.g., Yogurtland Pasadena charges $0.50 per topping. Delivery is $4.99.

You can specify when you’d like your order: ASAP or choose a time. You can also apply rewards and redeem coupons.

My froyo was ready on time and placed in a bag with a spoon, napkin, and seal. They were generous with the amount of froyo and toppings. The froyo and toppings was $10 before the $5 discount. I weighed the froyo and toppings and I received 18 oz. (large cup). At the $0.64/oz, that’s $11.52 if you went to the shop and got your own froyo and toppings. Picking up is cheaper than getting it at Yogurtland – but you can’t choose exactly how much you want or opt for more than one flavor per cup. Also, the toppings can add up if you want a lot of toppings. However, if you mostly want froyo and don’t mind a big cup of one flavor, online ordering is great!

New Summer Line-Up at Yogurtland: Fruit Bowl Fusions and Acai Bowls

 

Fro-yo girl here. Yogurtland just launched a few new summer offerings. First, Fruit Bowl Fusions are made with fresh fruit. Choose from Street Style (watermelon, mango, pineapple, lime dressing, Tajin, and chamoy) or Bionico (strawberries, blueberries, banana, sweet coconut milk, granola). Yogurtland Pasadena priced these at $6.99 each. Next, they have acai bowls where you choose the base (acai or pitaya) and the style, (1) strawberry banana granola or (2) peanut butter. These were $7.99/each at Yogurtland Pasadena. The fruit bowls and acai bowls aren't self-serve.

Since none of these offerings includes frozen yogurt, I’m not going to try them but I’m curious what others think of the offerings. I've had bionico and it's usually made with crema that's way too sweet, topped with very sweet granola, and doused in honey. I've had mangonadas too and I'm not a fan...prefer my fresh fruit unadorned. Acai and pitaya bases aren't as good as froyo!

Blogiversary Number 11 for Fro-Yo Girl Speaks

Fro-yo girl here. It’s hard to believe that Fro-Yo Girl Speaks is over 10 years old. Today marks the eleventh anniversary of my very first blog post. Eleven years is a long time and I still love froyo. Here’s a quick overview of what I’ve been up to over the last year.

Pasadena fro-yo update: My favorite Yogurtland location on Lake Ave. in Pasadena changed ownership late last year, raised prices, and went down hill. I’m very sad about it. I miss the owner, Steve, and the employees (the old ones left). Yogurtland Old Town Pasadena closed. I haven’t been going to Yogurtland as often as I did in previous years. On a positive note, 21 Choices just reopened, after moving from De Lacey and Colorado to chose to the new food hall on Union at Fair Oaks.

Progress towards meeting the blog’s original goal: I had to change my old goal of going to every froyo shop in the Bay Area to going to every froyo shop in greater Los Angeles. The rate of new openings has slowed and more froyo shops have closed, so I’m making good progress. I think I’ve been to every froyo shop within a 15-20 mile radius of my residence. I’m moving onto the 20-30 mile range, including Downey, Compton, and Santa Monica

Froyo spoon collection: I was able to sell about half of my extra froyo spoons on eBay. Hope I can sell more spoons in the future.

Soft and grand openings attended this year: So far, I’ve been to the openings of Yoga-urt in Echo Park, Menchie’s Sycamore Hills (Upland, CA), 21 Choices Frozen Yogurt in Old Town Pasadena and Eb & Bean #3 in Portland, Oregon. 

Current froyo obsessions: We're regulars at Yoga-urt in Glendale and Echo Park. So much about Yoga-urt is amazing - the vegan, organic soft serve, those crunchy gluten-free housemade cones, the housemade chocolate sauce. Drool. I still go to Souvla every time I go to SF. And I think about Pita GR's Greek frozen yogurt all the time but Downey isn't close, unfortunately.

The Journey From Yogurtland Pasadena (Lake) Regular to Former Customer

Fro-yo girl here. By all measures, I was a loyal Yogurtland Pasadena (Lake) customer. I went at least once a week, knew most of the employees, knew the owner, earned Platinum membership every year, etc. Once I went out of town for a week and they noticed my absence. I was named Customer of the Month in 2016. Yes, I went to other Yogurtland locations, but I preferred Yogurtland Lake. I explained why I loved it when I selected it as the best Yogurtland in the area back in 2016.

But as they say, all good things must come to an end. Yogurtland Lake’s ownership changed in December 2018. It didn’t take long for me to notice the difference. It seemed like all the old employees left. Prices went way up. Now Yogurtland locations in Pasadena are 15 cents/oz or more higher than other Yogurtland locations in the area.

I can tell that things are amiss without even stepping inside. For example, they stopped keeping up with the promotional posters. They didn’t start handing out the new purple spoons on time. The new promotion started on July 1. As of July 4, they don’t have the new signs up or the spoons. In the good old days, they had their act together. Now it seems like they don’t care.

Mr. Froyo encouraged me to read other people’s reviews of Yogurtland Lake and I found an interesting review from a former employee, Alana M. I thought I would share it because it seems like it’s true. I remember her. She was really nice. My sympathies are with the former employees.

I switched my Yogurtland location on the Real Rewards app to Yogurtland Alhambra. It’s very sad to see what’s happened to what used to be a wonderful location. I go out of my way to avoid Yogurtland Pasadena now. It’s gone from best to worst!

This is a cautionary tale. New owners can take over and improve things or they can make things much worse.

Yogurtland Pasadena (Lake) Update: Ownership Change

Fro-yo girl here. I used to go to Yogurtland Lake in Pasadena, CA every week, but I changed to other Yogurtland locations after the last price hike at Yogurtland Lake in mid-January. It’s now 59 cents an ounce, while other locations outside of Yogurtland Pasadena are at least 10 cents cheaper. That includes Yogurtland Alhambra, San Gabriel, Arcadia, Eagle Rock (Los Angeles), Monrovia, Burbank, and San Dimas. Most Yogurtland locations in the area now charge 49 cents an ounce. Yogurtland Old Town Pasadena has always been, and is still, more expensive than Yogurtland Lake.

I noticed that they haven’t been keeping up with the promotional posters (e.g., they didn’t put up the poster for Flavor Favorites Unwrapped). They put the Spring poster up from 2018 recently, even though the store does have any of the flavors depicted in the poster. The sign that was chipped hasn’t been fixed. Some of the fruit purees have been replaced with inferior Lyons sauces. Many of the old employees have departed.

Unfortunately, this location on a downward trajectory since the ownership change (Steve was the owner). So sad. I named it as my favorite local Yogurtland location in 2016. Yogurtland Alhambra seems pretty nice and they had peanut butter froyo when other shops in the area did not. I noticed that when new owners take over, they often raise the price. Some make improvements but based on what I've seen, that's usually not the case.

Another Price Hike at Yogurtland Pasadena (Lake Ave.)

Fro-yo girl here. I was surprised to see that the price went up at Yogurtland Pasadena, yet again. It's now 59 cents/oz. The last price hike was just 4 months ago, in October 2018, when the price was increased from 48 cents/oz to 52 cents/oz. That's an increase of 23% since early October 2018. It's still cheaper than Yogurtland Old Town Pasadena though.

Yogurtland Pasadena Adds Drinkable Creations

Fro-yo girl here. I’ve had Yogurtland drinks at other locations, but Yogurtland Pasadena (Lake Ave.) just added the drinks. I first tried the drinks when they were being tested at the Yogurtland location in Huntington Beach, CA back in 2017. 

Other Yogurtland locations have recently added Drinkable Creations as well, including Burbank, San Gabriel, Fullerton, West Covina, Alhambra, USC, Pico Rivera, etc. It looks like many locations now offer Drinkable Creations.

There are two drinks: Classic Vanilla Milkshake and Cold Brrrrew Coffee Frappe. They’re customizable and self-serve. You can add as much of each as you’d like and top with unlimited toppings and sauces for $2.99.

* Coffee Frappe: It’s pretty strong and not too sweet with tiny bits of ice. I love a good strong coffee flavor, so I was a fan. This flavor has milk, cream and sugar.

* Vanilla Milkshake: This was sweet, creamy, and soft. The flavor seemed very mild to me.

I personally like to get mostly Coffee Frappe and a bit of Vanilla Milkshake for creaminess (90% coffee frappe, 10% vanilla milkshake) topped with lots of whipped cream and chocolate chips.

South Lake Avenue 2018 Holidayfest Recap, Yogurtland Update

Fro-yo girl here. I’ve just returned from South Lake Avenue’s Holidayfest in Pasadena, CA. It’s kid-focused but they do have a fun scavenger hunt that people of all ages can enjoy and so many raffle prizes that you can enter if you complete the scavenger hunt. Yogurtland donated a certificate for catering for 15 people this year, which is the same prize they donated last year. Other raffle prizes included gift certificates from CAVA, Del Frisco’s Grille, Lemonade, Urban Plates, etc. I won a cup of coffee by spinning the prize wheel in front of Corner Bakery.

I also spotted roaming holiday characters (Olaf from Frozen, Frosty the Snowman), free popcorn, free cake samples from Corner Bakery, live music, Santa (available for photos) and horse and carriage rides ($10 for a ride).

Yogurtland was one of the scavenger hunt locations and they had a special promotion, 25% off froyo from 12 PM – 5 PM. I got a Yogurtland sticker that I hadn’t seen before.

Prices Go Up at Yogurtland Pasadena (Lake) and They Changed POS Systems

Fro-yo girl here. I experienced a bit of froyo overload after creating my unlimited cup at Yogurtland Pasadena (Lake Ave.), so I missed my weekly visit.

At some point while I was away, a few things happened. First, Yogurtland changed to a new POS system, Bypass. They had been using MICROS. I noticed the receipt looked different and asked about it. The new receipt has a lot less information. It doesn’t show how many bonus points one has, the points toward the next reward, and the points for the year. It also doesn’t show existing rewards. That was all useful information.

Second, the price went up. It was 48 cents. Now it’s 52 cents. The Old Town Pasadena location is currently charging 64 cents an ounce. Ouch.

Taste & Sounds on South Lake Avenue (Pasadena, CA) Recap

Fro-yo girl here. I’m back from Taste & Sounds of South Lake Avenue which was held today, Saturday, September 29, from noon – 5 PM. The event provides a nice reason to stroll down South Lake Avenue in Pasadena, CA and check out the local businesses. 

Businesses are constantly opening and closing in the area, it seems. For example, some new businesses that opened this year include Cauldron Ice Cream, Panda Express + Tea Bar, CAVA Grill, Urbane Café, Kreation Organic, Maquina, and Mercado. Businesses that closed this year include Wahoo’s Fish Tacos, Abricott, SECO, etc. Speaking of new businesses, Mendocino Farms is opening on October 11, with a special sneak preview on October 8. They were giving out buy one, get one free coupons at the event. 

The format was a bit different this year. There wasn’t a big vendor village though there were still some vendor booths near Macy’s. Yogurtland didn’t have a booth or a table outside. Some businesses had tables outside of their storefront. Prize wheels were very common. Samples were provided by Jersey Mike’s, Mendocino Farms (they had the longest line), Nothing Bundt Cakes, Urbane Cafe, and Which Wich. Other businesses had special discounts. For example, Yogurtland (Lake Ave.) is offering 25% off from 12 PM – 5 PM today. Samples are always free at Yogurtland. There was a trivia game and a chance to win raffle prizes.

I met Hello Kitty and she was in the cutest Halloween dress. I also got a Sanrio headband, coupons, and an Urbane Café water bottle.

The main reasons that I attend the South Lake Avenue events are (1) they’re close, (2) Yogurtland participates. It’s not the most exciting neighborhood but it is nice and it does have some good restaurants and stores. The South Lake Avenue Business Association also puts on elaborate events. Today’s event featured live music, cooking demos from celebrity chefs, family friendly activities, samples, special discounts, etc. Admission is free and so is parking.

Taste & Sounds on South Lake Avenue Returns to Pasadena, CA on Sept. 29

Fro-yo girl here. San Gabriel Valley’s largest culinary community event, Taste of South Lake, celebrates its 10-year anniversary. This year’s event is called Taste & Sounds on South Lake and will take place on Saturday, September 29, from noon – 5 PM.

This free event includes live music, cooking demos from celebrity chefs, family friendly activities, and the chance to taste the offerings of over 20 South Lake Avenue restaurants, including Yogurtland, Mercado, Nektar, SunLife Organics, SanSai, Urbane Café, The Counter, Du-Par’s, and Mendocino Farms. Mendocino Farms hasn’t opened its Lake Ave. location yet.

Free admission and free parking.

Fro-yo girl here. I’ve just returned from South Lake Avenue’s Holidayfest. It’s very much kid-focused but they do have a fun scavenger hunt that people of all ages can enjoy and some amazing raffle prizes that you can enter if you complete the scavenger hunt. Yogurtland donated a certificate for catering for 15 people. Other raffle prizes included gift certificates from Celestino, Dunkin’, Float, Nick’s, Salad Farm, Urban lates and The Counter, gift baskets, etc.

I also spotted roaming holiday characters (Olaf from Frozen, Abomindable Snowman, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, a toy soldier), free popcorn, free cookies from Corner Bakery, cookie decorating with Williams Sonoma, live music, Santa (available for photos) and horse and carriage rides.

Yogurtland was one of the scavenger hunt locations and they had a special promotion, 3 oz of free froyo with a minimum 8 oz purchase from 12 PM – 5 PM. I also found out that Yogurtland is bringing back to holiday flavors, Eggnog and Frosted Cookie.

I do really like the new topping, Ghirardelli mini caramel chips. They’re crunchy and not too sweet.

Fro-yo girl here. South Lake Avenue’s Holidayfest returns this year on Saturday, December 2, 2017, from 12 PM – 5 PM. I’ve attended several times and the event seems to grow every year. The event includes:
