Menchie’s September Featured Flavors & a New App

 

Fro-yo girl here. Menchie’s featured flavors for September are two returning favorites, Harvest Pumpkin and Cookie Butter froyo.

Harvest Pumpkin froyo: Menchie’s Harvest Pumpkin froyo is made with real pumpkin, cinnamon, and ginger. I could taste the spices. It normally comes back in October, but they brought it back early this year. Recommended toppings: Butterfinger, chocolate shell, Special Dark chocolate chips

Cookie Butter froyo: This is another spiced froyo, and it has cinnamon as well. It will make you think of speculoos cookies. Cookie butter froyo is made with no artificial flavors, no artificial colors, and no high fructose corn syrup. Recommended toppings: white chocolate chips, graham cracker crumbs, cheesecake bites

The featured flavors are available while supplies last, for a limited time.

I also saw a sign that said there’s a new app launching on 9/17. You’ll need to download it to earn & redeem rewards. Menchie’s recently unveiled a new website as well.

Menchie’s February Flavors & Promotions

Fro-yo girl here. This February, Menchie’s has two returning featured flavors:

Hershey’s Kisses Milk Chocolate Froyo tastes just like Hershey’s Kisses. And it’s also the perfect flavor for Valentine’s Day. The yogurt is gluten-free and made with no artificial colors and no high fructose corn syrup. Recommended toppings: mini Hershey’s Kisses, white chocolate chips, Special Dark chocolate chips, and brownies.

Gourmet Peanut Butter Gelato was introduced last year, and I’m glad to see it return. It’s very smooth and creamy. Pure peanut butter deliciousness. The gelato is gluten-free and is made with no high fructose corn syrup, no artificial colors, and no artificial flavors. It’s made with peanut butter and contains live and active cultures. Recommended toppings: Butterfinger, Peanut M&Ms, and chopped peanuts.

While National Frozen Yogurt Day, 2/6, is over, you can still earn double smiles on all purchases when you scan the Menchie’s app from Feb. 7 – 20.

New Menchie’s May Flavors and a Double Smiles Day

Fro-yo girl here. Menchie’s is featuring two NEW flavors this month: Chocolate Dipped Churro froyo made with Hershey’s Chocolate and Cherry Cola sorbet. I haven’t found Cherry Cola sorbet yet.

Chocolate Dipped Churro froyo made with Hershey’s Chocolate is a perfect flavor for Cinco De Mayo. Menchie’s had a yummy Churro froyo flavor in 2015 called Twisted Cinnamon Churro. I haven’t seen it in years, unfortunately. Fortunately, the new Chocolate Dipped Churro froyo is also a winner. It tastes more like churro than chocolate. In other words, the chocolate flavor is not heavy or overwhelming. Chocolate Dipped Churro is lowfat and made with no artificial flavors, no artificial flavors, and no high fructose corn syrup. Recommended toppings: Cinnamon Toast Crunch, mini Hershey’s Kisses, chocolate shell, and your favorite nuts.

Cherry Cola sorbet: This vegan flavor tastes like cherry cola. It’s nonfat, gluten-free, and contains no artificial colors, no artificial flavors, and no high fructose corn syrup. It reminds me of an ICEE or Slurpee. I could taste the cherry and the cola. It seemed very sweet. I can't imagine eating a cup of this flavor. Recommended toppings: strawberries, Cool Whip

Save the date for Double Smiles Day, May 14. On May 14, you’ll earn double smiles on all in-store froyo purchases when you scan the Menchie’s app at the register.

Menchie’s February Promotions

 

Fro-yo girl here. It usually takes awhile for me to find the featured flavors at my local Menchie’s because many of them wait until they’ve run out of another flavor before they put in the new flavors. Anyway, thanks to National Frozen Yogurt Day, Menchie’s sold and gave away a lot of froyo and I found the featured flavors.

The featured flavors for February are: Gourmet Tiramisu gelato and Hershey’s Kisses Milk Chocolate froyo. They’re both returning flavors.

Gourmet Tiramisu Gelato was first introduced in May 2021. It combines rich mascarpone and bold espresso flavors just like the decadent Italian dessert. The gelato has live and active cultures, no artificial flavors, no artificial colors and no high-fructose corn syrup. Gourmet Tiramisu Gelato was rich, thick, creamy, and smooth, it tasted like a sweet espresso mellowed by mascarpone. Recommended toppings: Nilla wafers, almonds, white chocolate chips

Hershey’s Chocolate Kisses froyo was introduced in February 2017. It’s made with Hershey’s Chocolate, of course, and it does taste like Hershey’s Kisses – a mild chocolate froyo that’s creamy and smooth. Recommended toppings: mini Hershey’s Kisses, chocolate shell, graham crackers, marshmallows.

Featured flavors are available for a limited time only, while supplies last.

While National Frozen Yogurt Day has come and gone, Menchie’s is offering double smiles when you scan the Menchie’s app from February 7 – 20. Once you earn 50 smiles, you’ll receive a reward of $5 in Menchie’s Money to use on your next froyo purchase.

Menchie’s Featured Flavors: New Cinnamon Crumb Cake, Ice Cream Sandwich Froyo & Upcoming Double Smiles Day

 

Fro-yo girl here. And the first NEW Menchie’s flavor of 2023 is…(drum roll)…Cinnamon Crumb Cake. I love cinnamon crumb cake (or coffee cake). The cinnamon crumb streusel over a simple, moist cake is so good with coffee or tea. Cinnamon crumb streusel is amazing atop muffins – blueberry, plain, etc. I’ve never had Cinnamon Crumb Cake froyo before though.

Menchie’s Cinnamon Crumb Cake froyo is a lowfat flavor made with real cake pieces and cinnamon. It’s made with no artificial colors, no artificial flavors, and no high-fructose corn syrup. The froyo actually tasted like I expected it to – cinnamon plus cake. But, the texture was icy and the flavor seemed too sweet. The cinnamon seemed too strong as well. This might have been because the location that I visited. It might be creamier at other Menchie’s locations. Texture makes a big difference.

Menchie’s also brought back a fan favorite, Ice Cream Sandwich froyo, made with real chocolate cookie pieces. I like this flavor. It wasn’t at the Menchie’s that I visited but I hope to encounter it soon.

Menchie’s November Feature Flavor, Cinnamon Bun & Return of Veterans Day Offer

 

Fro-yo girl here. Back in November 2014, Menchie’s introduced a new froyo flavor, Cinnabon Classic Cinnamon Roll, featuring Cinnabon Makara cinnamon blended with their signature cream cheese frosting. They also provided two new toppings, Cinnabon morsels and sweet cream cheese icing.

Cinnamon roll/bun froyo is back at Menchie’s but it’s new and made with Philadelphia Cream Cheese frosting. Menchie’s describes the flavor as follows: “Taste a slice of cinnamon bun in every bite. Menchie’s new froyo flavor, Cinnamon Bun made with Philadelphia Cream Cheese Frosting, is gluten-free and made with real cinnamon and Philadelphia Cream Cheese. To make it an even sweeter treat, top off your cup with swirls of our new Cream Cheese Frosting topping!” Yes, they brought back a warm cream cheese frosting.

Finding the new flavor continues to be a bit of a challenge despite improvements to the Menchie’s app this year. Though they FINALLY added a flavor finder feature, most locations do not report their current flavors. And the locations near me rarely put in the new flavors around the time that they’re released. Valley Village has it though – that’s one location that I can depend on. They also update their flavors on the Menchie’s app. Due to COVID-19, they do not provide samples.

Cinnamon Bun froyo: The cinnamon flavor wasn’t as strong as I expected. It was definitely on the sweet side but tasted more like a butter caramel frosting than a cinnamon bun. The Cinnabon Classic Cinnamon Roll flavor had more cinnamon flavor. The Menchie’s employee recommended pairing Cinnamon Bun froyo with Vanilla Snow. Recommended toppings: Heath & almonds.

I was also happy to see that Menchie’s will continue the tradition of offering free froyo (6 oz) to veterans and active duty military on Veterans Day, November 11. More Veterans Day froyo offers will be revealed soon (in the next post).

Menchie’s University Needs a Makeover, Testing New Flavor, Full Service for Now, Curbside Pickup

Fro-yo girl here. I hadn’t been to Menchie’s University in Encino, CA in months because of the coronavirus pandemic, but I like going to see what they’re testing. Sure enough, there was a test flavor, Cinnamon Graham Cracker. I loved Menchie’s Golden Graham Cracker flavor, so I had high hopes. Hmm, I did not like Cinnamon Graham Cracker though – it seemed too sweet. But it did complement the Pumpkin Spice with Nilla froyo.

I wasn’t thrilled that they offered flat rate pricing because you can’t get exactly what you want or control the quantity. I wasn’t feeling like having a lot of froyo but the smallest option (Small w/ up to two flavors of froyo and 1 topping) felt too large. They wrote in the corner or price by weight but didn’t mention that option to me. She assumed I’d get the flat rate cup.

I was surprised that Menchie’s University did not have any of the new Connected cups. Also, the sign on the side of the building looks like it caught fire? It looks awful. Why wouldn’t they fix or remove it? Menchie’s University shouldn’t look this bad.

Menchie’s recently launched curbside pickup, available through the Menchie’s app. However, when I launch the Menchie’s app, my nearest location doesn’t even have the current flavors listed, let alone offer curbside pickup through the app. I don’t see a way to place an order other than calling the shop – and if that’s the case, who needs the Menchie’s app to do that?

Menchie’s Finally Adds Flavor Finder to Mobile App But Many Stores Aren’t Updating Their Flavors

Fro-yo girl here. I’ve been asking for a flavor finder feature from Menchie’s for years now. I was tired of calling multiple stores looking for a particular flavor. Why was it so hard to find out the current flavors?

I mentioned the need for Menchie’s to offer a flavor locator on my froyo wish list in 2017, 2018, and 2020. In 2018, it looked like Menchie’s was working on a flavor locator. I didn’t hear anything about it in 2019. Guess what? They finally added the flavor finder to their app and website this year.

To find the flavors of the day on the Menchie’s website, find the store you want to go to and the flavors will be listed under Flavors. On the Menchie’s app, find a store and then select Flavors from the store page. If the store hasn’t updated its flavors, you’ll see a list of all the Menchie’s flavors. If they have updated their flavors, you’ll only see the flavors that are currently swirling.

So how many Menchie’s locations update their flavors? Here’s what I found for the locations near me. No means that the shop did not have a list of current flavors.

1. Alhambra: No
2. Baldwin Park: No
3. Chatsworth: No
4. Culver City: No
5. Downey: No
6. Eagle Rock: No
7. El Monte: No
8. Gage Village: No
9. Glendale: No
10. La Puente: No
11. Pico Rivera: No

13. Santa Monica – Ocean Park: No
14. South El Monte: No
15. South Pasadena: No

Only four of the locations that I looked at had the current flavors. Each of these deserve a special star:

1. Burbank: YES!
2. Valley Village: YES!
3. Sherman Oaks: YES!
4. Encino: YES!

That’s 16% - when the majority of shops aren’t updating their list of current flavors, having a flavor finder feature has limited usefulness. What’s wrong with these shops that can’t be bothered to update their flavors? This is why I go out of my way to go to the Menchie’s in Valley Village. The service is better there and the yogurt texture is better. The shop also looks clean. If only other Menchie’s locations were the same. It’s interesting that all the locations that update their flavors are close to Menchie’s HQ.

The other issue is accuracy. Of the locations that do update their flavors, how accurate are those updates? I've already encountered one store that didn't list one of the flavors they offered, even though they updated their flavors.

Menchie’s April Feature Flavors: Dairy-Free Cookie Sandwich & Orange Pineapple Sorbet

Fro-yo girl here. Happy April! Since it’s a new month, it’s also time for new feature flavors at Menchie’s. This month’s feature flavors have a dairy-free theme. Feature flavors are available for a limited time only, while supplies last.

* Cookie Sandwich made with Blue Diamond almond butter: This is dairy-free soft serve, not frozen yogurt. It does not have any yogurt cultures. It’s lowfat and kosher. If you’re familiar with Menchie’s classic flavor, I Dream of Cookies N’ Cream, Cookie Sandwich has a similar mild, sweet chocolate cookie flavor but it also has the taste of almond butter. It’s creamy but not as creamy and lighter than I Dream of Cookies N’ Cream. Recommended toppings: almonds, Oreos, chocolate shell

* Orange Pineapple sorbet: This is another dairy-free flavor. Orange Pineapple sorbet is made with real pineapple juice concentrate and real orange juice concentrate. It’s nonfat, gluten free, high fructose corn syrup free, and has no artificial colors or flavors. The pineapple flavor is stronger but I could taste the orange too. I like how the pineapple added some tanginess. Recommended toppings: fresh fruit, popping boba.

The Menchie’s I visited did not have the new cup for the Missing Link. P.S. If you haven’t downloaded the new Menchie’s app yet, do it. You’ll get a $5 credit towards your next purchase and double smiles for 60 days from your registration date.
