The Great Spoon Trade!

Fro-yo girl here. Do you love froyo spoons? Do you collect froyo spoons? You know that I answered yes to both questions. I’m looking to trade some of my current froyo spoons in order to obtain froyo spoons that aren’t currently part of my collection.

I am looking for the following froyo spoons:

* Pink ELFY spoons from Froyo World
* Early Yogurtland spoons - light pink and light green clear spoons with old Yogurtland logo that were available around 2007
* Fru:yo Factory elephant head spoons from Hong Kong

* Yogen Fruz blue spoons with cut out smile/U shape

If you think you have some nice froyo spoons that I haven’t mentioned but might be interested in, let me know.

Let me know which spoons you are looking for and we can go from there.

For more information, check out my IFYA classified ad. You can buy, sell or trade froyo items using IFYA's free classified ads. Any registered IFYA member can create an ad and membership is free.

Future Fro-yo Shop Picture: Yogurtland Old Town Pasadena

Fro-yo girl here. Popcorn-n-More, Pasadena’s first gourmet popcorn shop, didn’t last very long. Now there’s a new sign up in their window. Yogurtland is coming to Old Town Pasadena! The new location is on the same block of Noodle World.

It’s too bad there won’t be a Popcorn-n-More stall inside Yogurtland because gourmet popcorn is delicious as a froyo topping. Popcorn-n-More used to have soft serve ice cream which I think you could have topped with popcorn. Too bad they didn’t have frozen yogurt.

This will be the 2nd Yogurtland location in Pasadena. The first location opened on Lake St.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

* YOGURTLAND: 30 W Colorado Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91105

Ehrmann Mixims Review

Fro-yo girl here. Ehrmann is a German yogurt brand that recently entered the US market with a product line called Mixims. The heart shaped container features three separate compartments. Each package contains plain fat free Greek yogurt with live and active cultures and two toppings. One serving is 150g and 150 calories with 1.5g total fat and at least 10g protein. It retails for $1.99. I found Mixims at Safeway for a club price of 4 for $5.

Six flavors are available:
Cherry and Chocolate Curls; Raspberry with Dark and White Chocolate Curls; Mango Pineapple with Coconut & Almonds; Honey with Coconut & Almonds; Strawberries with Granola; Blackberry Pomegranate with Granola & Dried Fruits

* Raspberry with dark and white chocolate curls: The plain Greek yogurt is mildly tangy and lightly sweetened. They added several gums and pectin to thicken the yogurt. I found the flavor to be somewhat chalky and bland. The raspberry puree, which had some but not many seeds, was easy to stir in and the result was still bland. I liked how the puree was slightly tart and not too sweet. I hoped there would be separate white and dark chocolate curls but the white and dark chocolate were present in the same curls.

* Strawberry with granola: The strawberry puree was much sweeter than the raspberry and I didn’t see any strawberry pieces. It looked like a thick red liquid. The granola was made out of just oats. It was crunchy and lightly sweetened. I like crunchier granola made with more than just oats.

The raspberry yogurt was better than the strawberry yogurt. Muller has a similar offering but Muller has better tasting yogurt and better toppings.

3 out of 5 stars.

About Ehrmann USA

Ehrmann USA is the American subsidiary of a German dairy production company with nearly 100 years experience in the industry. Among the leading dairies in Europe, the Ehrmann family learned the craft of yogurt-making in Bavaria's Oberschonegg in Allgau, Germany in 1929. For the US market, Ehrmann combined modern manufacturing techniques and a three-generations-old family recipe to create MIXIM, its new creamy Greek yogurt. The company remains an independent family enterprise that stands for quality, sustainability, and tradition.

NuYo Frozen Yogurt Profile

Fro-yo girl here. Happy Earth Week! In honor of Earth Week, here’s profile of an eco-friendly frozen yogurt chain that I visited recently: NuYo Frozen Yogurt.

NuYo looks eco-friendly even before you walk into the shop. The logo is green and with leaves and there are leaf decals on the windows. The Roseville shop interior has an appealing eco-inspired design with wood floors and shades of white, blue and green.

NuYo has adopted many eco-friendly business practices, including using napkins made out of 100% recycled materials, compostable cups and spoons, recycling, energy efficient light bulbs, energy efficient frozen yogurt machines, non-toxic cleaning supplies. They also strive to purchase locally grown seasonal fruits.

For 42 cents an ounce you can fill up your cup with any mix of frozen yogurt, shaved ice and toppings. They had 14 self-serve proprietary frozen yogurt flavors with live and active cultures to choose from and a toppings bar with bins filled to the brim with nuts, fresh fruit, cheesecake bits, cookies (even regular size whole chocolate chip cookies), cereal, graham cracker crumbs, candy, mochi, cookie dough, brownies, chocolate chips, popping boba and jellies. You can also opt for a waffle bowl and add various syrups and sauces like hot fudge and peanut butter.

They offer a good blend of tart and sweet flavors, including no sugar added froyo. The flavors included classic flavors like vanilla and chocolate, along with fruity flavors and indulgent flavors (peanut butter, cake batter). I tried several tart frozen yogurt flavors. All of them were very good. The frozen yogurt was very flavorful, smooth, creamy with a refreshing edge, though the actual fruit flavors (Asian pear, strawberry) were on the subtle side.

NuYo also has froyo pies and Yoghund, frozen yogurt for dogs. Sign up for the reward card and earn your way to free froyo. The shop in Roseville is one of five locations.

* NUYO FROZEN YOGURT: 9213 Sierra College Blvd., Ste. 100, Roseville, CA 95661

Safeway Super Premium Greek Key Lime Pie Frozen Yogurt Review

Fro-yo girl here. I’m not at Safeway every week but I swing by maybe once a month and just noticed a new line of Super Premium Greek Frozen Yogurt by Safeway Select. A one pint package is $3.99 or $2.99 for Club members.

The new line comes in the following flavors:

  • Vanilla Honey Praline
  • Vanilla Caramel Toffee
  • Strawberry Shortcake
  • Blueberry Vanilla Cheesecake
  • Key Lime Pie
The flavors are reminiscent of Ben & Jerry’s Greek frozen yogurt line.

* Key Lime Pie froyo: It’s firm and creamy, with the texture of a premium ice cream. I liked the strong key lime flavor that had a hint of tartness and wasn’t super sweet. The graham cracker bits are soft and sweet; they didn’t overwhelm the key lime flavor. I didn’t notice the whipped cream ribbon. I liked it a lot but it didn’t have yogurt flavor. It was more like ice cream...but it does have active yogurt cultures. One serving (½ cup) is 160 calories and 2.5 grams of fat.
4 out of 5 stars.

Yogurtland Flavor Quest Continues with Dubai Vanilla Date Shake & Puerto Rico Guava Sorbet

Fro-yo girl here. Today two new exotic Flavor Quest flavors arrived at Yogurtland: Dubai Vanilla Date Shake (April 14 - May 11) and Puerto Rico Guava Sorbet (April 14 - May 11). These are the last new 2nd Annual Yogurtland Flavor Quest froyo flavors. Yes the Flavor Quest is coming to an end, sadly. The new flavors are available while supplies last.

I don’t like dates or guava but I do like trying new flavors even if I don’t think that I’ll like them.

* Dubai Vanilla Date Shake features Medjool dates, Madagascar bourbon vanilla and molasses. The date flavor isn’t overwhelming and it tastes more like dates than vanilla. I think the specks I saw were from the dates. It’s pleasant, creamy and sweet - with a warm, exotic flavor.

* Puerto Rico Guava Sorbet: This was one of their creamier and sweeter sorbets. The guava flavor is prominent. I was surprised by its sweetness.

There was a new topping this week: colorful gummi butterflies.

Keep collecting stamps on your passport till May 11th. Each stamp gives you a chance to earn prizes including the Puerto Rican adventure. Collect 10 stamps during the Flavor Quest and earn 10 free ounces on your 10th visit.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.
