Results of the 2025 National Frozen Yogurt Consumer Survey Reveal that Frozen Yogurt Consumers Prioritize Quality and Want New Offerings

 



Fro-yo girl here. The International Frozen Yogurt Association invited frozen yogurt consumers in the United States to participate in an online survey about frozen yogurt in September 2025. Open to U.S. residents aged 13 and older, the online survey explored a wide range of topics, including flavor preferences, consumption frequency, brand loyalty, and attitudes towards frozen yogurt. It is the only survey about frozen yogurt that gathers responses from across the United States. Because it is conducted annually, it captures trends over time.

The 2025 online survey received 180 responses from frozen yogurt consumers in the United States. The typical respondent was a male (62%), 25 - 34 years old (65%), with one or two children under 18.


Key survey findings


Quality is king:
For the second consecutive year, "quality frozen yogurt" was ranked as the most important factor when choosing a frozen yogurt shop, followed by great tasting frozen yogurt, and value for the money. 

Price sensitivity remains, but with a caveat: Although 64% of respondents report reducing froyo consumption this year due to the high cost of froyo, 83% indicated a willingness to spend more for a high-quality product they value. This suggests that transparent messaging about ingredient quality can help justify higher price points. 

Consumers want something new:
Consumers seek the excitement of new flavors, limited-time flavors, seasonal flavors, and collab flavors. This is the main way to draw them to a frozen yogurt shop. Frequent flavor rotations would also be helpful. When asked what type of other products would interest them if offered by a frozen yogurt shop. The most popular response was frozen yogurt cakes and pies, followed by frozen yogurt cookie sandwiches and frozen yogurt popsicles.

IFYA Announces the Results of the National Frozen Yogurt Consumer Survey




Fro-yo girl here. The National (US) Frozen Yogurt Survey is an annual survey sponsored by the National Frozen Yogurt Association. Each year, frozen yogurt consumers in the United States over 13 years old take part in an online survey that measures frozen yogurt preferences, current and future consumption, loyalty, and more. The results are compared to previous year’s findings to understand trends over time.

This year there were 258 survey responses.Respondents were:
  • 59% female, 41% male, 2% other
  • 56% between 25 – 34 years of age, about 77% have children under 18 in the household (the same as in 2023)

Froyo shop visit frequency and loyalty were stable for the past few years, but there was a large increase in the percentage of respondents who have reduced froyo consumption due to price (56% in 2024 vs. 37% in 2023). That’s the majority of respondents, for the first time. On a more positive note, 79% of respondents said they were willing to pay more for high quality froyo.

Respondents liked most of the major frozen chains in the US. When asked about their favorite shop, Yogurtland ranked #1, Pinkberry #2, and Menchie’s #3 The most important froyo shop attribute was a tie between quality froyo and great taste, followed by cleanliness and value.

The National Frozen Yogurt Consumer Survey is the only one to measure consumer sentiment, behavior, and attitudes towards frozen yogurt. This year, the survey found evidence that consumers have become more interested in quality frozen yogurt. The survey also revealed what other products respondents would be willing to try at froyo shops and what might increase froyo shop visit frequency.

National Frozen Yogurt Consumer Survey Results Announced

 



The results of the National Frozen Yogurt Consumer Survey are in. Back in September 2023, the International Frozen Yogurt Association invited frozen yogurt consumers in the United States to participate in an online survey about frozen yogurt. The survey measured loyalty, liking for major frozen yogurt chains, frozen yogurt preferences, what they're looking for from frozen yogurt shops, current and future consumption, what would increase their froyo shop visit frequency, etc. The survey is conducted annually to measure trends over time.

Consumer Survey Findings


There were 771 survey responses. About 56% of the respondents were female, 43% male; 77% of respondents were between 18-34 years old; 77% of respondents reported having children under 18 in the household, with one child being the most common (45.62% of respondents).

Froyo shop visit frequency and loyalty have changed little since 2022. And while some respondents said they had reduced froyo consumption due to higher prices, the majority had not. However, value is a growing concern among respondents.

Respondents liked most of the major frozen chains in the US. When asked about their favorite shop, Pinkberry ranked #1. The most important froyo shop attribute was quality froyo; cleanliness was no longer in the top 3.

IFYA Announces Results of the National Frozen Yogurt Survey



Fro-yo girl here. The International Frozen Yogurt Association (IFYA) sponsored the National (US) Frozen Yogurt Survey this fall. There were two versions of the survey, one for consumers and one for shop owners.

Frozen yogurt consumers in the United States responded to an online survey about frozen yogurt in September 2022. The survey measured loyalty, liking for major frozen yogurt chains, frozen yogurt preferences, what they’re looking for from frozen yogurt shops, current and future consumption, what would increase their froyo shop visit frequency, etc.

There were 1,318 responses. The survey found that froyo shop visit frequency was greater than 2021. The most important froyo shop attribute was quality froyo; cleanliness slipped from #2 most important in 2021 to #3 in 2022. When asked about their favorite shop, Pinkberry ranked #1.




In October 2022, IFYA invited frozen yogurt shop owners in the United States to take an anonymous online survey. The survey asked about operational practices, shop and owner characteristics, supplier satisfaction, concerns, and shop performance.

The goals of the shop owner survey were to provide shop owners with benchmarks for assessing how they compare to other shops, help suppliers learn more about how shops felt about their suppliers, and provide an overall sense of where the frozen yogurt industry is headed by looking at trends over time.

There were 30 responses. The survey found that 63% of respondents said their sales had returned to pre-pandemic levels. As in 2021, their main concerns were rising costs and finding and retaining good employees. Most are satisfied with their soft serve machines and soft serve mix suppliers.

Last Few Days to Take the National (US) Frozen Yogurt Shop Owner Survey

The National Frozen Yogurt Shop Owner Survey, sponsored by the International Frozen Yogurt Association, is a short, anonymous online survey for froyo shop owners and foodservice businesses that serve soft serve froyo in the US. It was created to help shop owners learn about how they're doing relative to other froyo shops, as well as to capture trends in the frozen yogurt industry.

The survey asks about shop performance, profitability, satisfaction with suppliers, operational practices, management, etc. Anyone who takes the survey will also receive the full results when they are available (most likely later this month). The survey closes at midnight PST on Sunday, November 6.

National (US) Frozen Yogurt Shop Owner Survey Now Open, Take Survey & Get the Results




Fro-yo girl here. The National Frozen Yogurt Shop Owner Survey, sponsored by the International Frozen Yogurt Association, is now open.

Who Should Take the Survey


Anyone who owns a frozen yogurt shop or a business that serves frozen yogurt in the US is encouraged to participate. Owners who take the survey will be able to sign up to receive the survey results while taking the survey. The results will help froyo shop owners better understand how their shop compares to other shops. This year’s results will also be compared to last year’s results. The results should be available in November.

The National Frozen Yogurt Shop Owner Survey asks shop owners about shop performance, satisfaction with suppliers, operational practices, management practices, outlook, profitability, etc. 

The anonymous online survey takes about 7 minutes to complete and can be found at https://tinyurl.com/2022froyoowner

The survey will remain open from now till midnight PST on November 6, 2022.

When you take the survey and provide your email address, your email address will only be used to send you the results. Your email address will not be shared with others and the IFYA will only contact you once, to share the results.

How to See the Results Without Taking the Survey


Suppliers and others who are interested in the results but do not own a frozen yogurt store or are not in the US can receive the survey results by sharing IFYA’s pinned Facebook (@froyoassociation) post about the survey, reposting the Instagram post about the survey (@froyossociation) or retweeting the pinned survey tweet (@froyogirl).

Results of the 2020 National Frozen Yogurt Survey for Consumers & Shop Owners



Fro-yo girl here. The results of International Frozen Yogurt Association’s annual National Frozen Yogurt Survey are in. There were two survey versions, one for frozen yogurt consumers and another for frozen yogurt shop owners. The consumer survey was open in September and the shop owner survey in October.

The purpose of the surveys was to better understand the state of the US frozen yogurt market from the perspective of consumers and shop owners. This year’s surveys were modified to account for the coronavirus pandemic. The results were also compared with last year’s results to capture trends over time.

Frozen Yogurt Consumer Survey


All frozen yogurt consumers in the US over 13 years old were invited to share their thoughts about frozen yogurt by taking the short online survey. There were 205 responses.

The consumer survey was designed to measure loyalty, brand attitudes, frozen yogurt preferences, preferred shop attributes, current and future consumption, and demographics. New questions were added about the coronavirus pandemic. A few questions were removed.

While the 2019 results were quite similar to the 2018 results, the 2020 results showed some interesting differences. Some of the changes are likely attributable to the coronavirus pandemic. For example, cleanliness was rated the most important froyo shop attribute for the first time. When asked what froyo shops might do to increase visit frequency, the most popular write-in response was safety. The survey questions were modified to take into account the coronavirus pandemic. Approximately 86% of people reported consuming less froyo during pandemic. The results reveal how many respondents are comfortable with self-serve, why they consumed less, how they felt about the safety of self-serve, how often they visited froyo shops before the pandemic vs. last month, etc.

Loyalty as measured by going to a shop more than 75% of the time for froyo, declined. We also measured loyalty in other ways. Major chains accounted for 85% of respondents' favorite shops, with Yogurtland leading the way, followed by a tie for 2nd between Pinkberry and Orange Leaf.

Frozen Yogurt Shop Owner Survey


The shop owner survey was also an anonymous online survey. The survey asked frozen yogurt shop owners in the US about operational practices, shop and owner characteristics, supplier satisfaction, concerns, and shop performance. New questions were added to account for the coronavirus pandemic.

The main goals of the shop owner survey were to provide shop owners with benchmarks to assess how they compare to other frozen yogurt shops and provide an overall sense of where the frozen yogurt industry is headed by looking at trends over time. Respondents were provided with the full results.

Thirty-nine responses were received from frozen yogurt shop owners. Responses were received from shops across the country, with the most responses from California. Most respondents were owners of independent froyo shops who owned one shop.

Respondents reported higher levels of concern than previous years about costs, finding employees, finding customers, etc. This year, the #1 concern was keeping employees and customers safe. The impact of COVID-19 has been devastating, with almost half reporting sales are off over 50% in the first nine months of 2020 (vs. first nine months of 2019). We also asked about their future outlook and plans.

Final Days of the National Frozen Yogurt Shop Owner Survey

 


Fro-yo girl here. Time is running out to be part of the National Frozen Yogurt Shop Owner Survey, sponsored by the International Frozen Yogurt Association. The survey is open to anyone who owns a business that serves frozen yogurt in the United States. Owners can sign up to receive the survey results while taking the survey. This year’s results will be compared to last year’s results and there are also new questions to capture the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Survey Purpose


The survey results will help froyo shop owners better understand how their shop compares to other shops and also to understand frozen yogurt industry trends. The survey includes questions about shop performance, satisfaction with suppliers, operational practices, management, etc. This year's survey was modified to take into account the impact of the coronavirus. The anonymous survey takes about 7 minutes to complete.

Calling All US Froyo Shop Owners: The National Frozen Yogurt Shop Owner Survey is Now Open


Fro-yo girl here. The Fourth National Frozen Yogurt Shop Owner Survey, sponsored by the International Frozen Yogurt Association, is now open. 

Who Should Take the Survey


Anyone who owns a frozen yogurt shop or a business that serves frozen yogurt in the US is invited to participate. Owners who take the survey will be able to sign up to receive the survey results while taking the survey. The results will help froyo shop owners better understand how their shop compares to other shops. This year’s results will also be compared to last year’s results. The results should be available in November.

Time Is Running Out to Take the National Froyo Consumer Survey, Take the Survey for a Chance to Win Free Froyo

Results of the Third National Frozen Yogurt Survey

Last fall, International Frozen Yogurt Association (IFYA) sponsored the Third Annual National (US) Frozen Yogurt Survey to better understand the state of the US frozen yogurt market. As in previous years, there were two versions of the survey, one for frozen yogurt consumers and another for frozen yogurt shop operators. The consumer survey was open in September and the shop owner survey in October. The National Frozen Yogurt Survey is the only measure of national frozen yogurt consumer sentiment.

Frozen Yogurt Consumer Survey


All frozen yogurt consumers in the US over 13 years old were invited to share their thoughts about frozen yogurt by taking the short online survey. There were 214 responses.

The consumer survey was designed to measure the following:

  • Loyalty 
  • Brand attitudes towards major frozen yogurt chains
  • Frozen yogurt preferences
  • Attribute importance of frozen yogurt shops
  • Current & future consumption
  • Purchasing habits
  • Demographics

The results were quite similar to the results of last year's survey. The top 3 key attributes that consumers seek in frozen yogurt shops remained the same. The top 3 non-froyo items consumers would consider getting from a frozen yogurt shop did not change. Three out of four respondents expressed willingness to pay more for quality froyo, similar to 2018.

The survey measured liking for frozen yogurt chains with several questions. The order changed but the top four remained (in no particular order) Menchie's, Pinkberry, TCBY and Yogurtland.

However, there were some interesting changes. Loyalty as measured by going to a shop more than 75% of the time for froyo, declined. More people are going to get froyo without others compared to last year.

The respondents were younger and included more males than last year. Of the 214 respondents, 57% were female, 43% male, with 52% between the ages of 18-34. In 2018, respondents were 64% female, 34% male, and 41.2% were between 18-34 years old.

Shop Owner Survey Results


The shop owner survey was also an anonymous online survey. The survey asked frozen yogurt shop owners in the US about operational practices, shop and owner characteristics, supplier satisfaction, concerns, and shop performance.

The main goals of the shop owner survey were to:

  • Provide shop owners with benchmarks to assess how they compare to other frozen yogurt shops
  • Help suppliers learn more about how shops felt about their suppliers
  • Provide an overall sense of where the frozen yogurt industry is headed by looking at trends over time

The shop owner survey included three questions to capture shop performance. One concerned the current performance of the shop. The second asked the owner to predict the shop's performance over the next 12 months. Finally, we asked shop owners how satisfied they were with their decision to open their business.

While more respondents reported that their business was doing better than doing worse over the past year, we did see an increase in the number of respondents who reported their shop was doing slightly worse. Fewer respondents expected business to be better in the next year compared to 2018 respondents. Rising costs are their main concern. Respondents were also fairly satisfied with their suppliers, especially their soft serve mix suppliers.
