2025 Halloween Froyo Shop Spirit Award Winner Selected

Fro-yo girl here. It’s that magical time of year when I hunt for signs of Halloween spirit in my neighborhood and at froyo shops across the globe. I’m always delighted to see how widely Halloween is embraced, from cobweb-covered counters to creepy-cute toppings in countries near and far.

Each year, I award the Halloween Froyo Shop Spirit Award to a shop that goes all out—whether through festive décor, limited-edition flavors, costume parties, themed events, or hauntingly fun toppings.

This year’s standout was unmistakable, showing unmatched Halloween spirit. It’s the first win for Llaollao, Europe and Asia’s largest froyo brand. At Llaollao Philippines and Malaysia, the Minions-themed Halloween promotion includes Minions Monster froyo creations served in Minions Monster cups. The Minions Monster Mix Bundle comes with a Minions Monster blind box Halloween keychain. Some of the keychains glow in the dark.

Here are the previous winners:

  • 2024: 16 Handles
  • 2023: SWEESH Fro-Yo, Indonesia
  • 2022: Funky Frozen Yogurt, Norway
  • 2021: Menchie’s, US

New Yoga-urt Flavor: Earl Grey

Fro-yo girl here. Yoga-urt debuted a new flavor, Earl Grey, in Santa Monica during the fourth anniversary celebration on October 25. It’s made with organic Earl Grey tea and a touch of vanilla. Like all Yoga-urt soft serve, it’s hand-crafted, organic, vegan, kosher, soy-free, and probiotic.

I’ve always loved Earl Grey tea and tea-flavored froyo. The froyo definitely had a strong floral Earl Grey flavor. It was sweet and clean-tasting. For some reason the texture wasn’t as thick as usual, and it seemed icier than other Yoga-urt flavors. Maybe it was because of the machine?

I would definitely want to try it again to see if the texture changes.

Recommended toppings: housemade cake, mochi

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Allbarm Strawberry Freeze Drying Yogurt Cubes Review

Fro-yo girl here. I found Allbarm freeze-dried yogurt cubes at Zion Market. One pouch is 0.58 oz. The pouch is resealable. The snack is imported from Korea and made with a few ingredients, including local fruit and live lactic acid bacteria. The pouch was $2.99 regular price and 2 for $0.99 on sale.

Strawberry Cubes: These cubes were smaller than the other ones I’ve had. The fruit and yogurt and blended together. The texture is crunchy, but the cubes melt in your mouth. The flavor was tangy and fruity. I liked how it wasn’t that sweet. It was more tangy than sweet. I could definitely taste the strawberries, but the yogurt added some creaminess.

One serving (one pouch) is 63 calories, 0g total fat, 14g total carbs, 10g total sugars

Available flavors: plain, peach, strawberry, blueberry

I first covered the freeze-dried yogurt cubes trend in 2022. The cubes were already popular all over Asia, particularly in China.

It’s a good snack but expensive compared to a cup of yogurt. However, it’s portable and shelf-stable.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Yogurtland’s Fan Appreciation Day

Fro-yo girl here. Today was Fan Appreciation Day at Yogurtland. Everyone enjoyed a buy one, get one free offer on froyo and Real Reward members received the extra perk of double points.

It was packed at Yogurtland Eagle Rock tonight. Luckily, they had Doc’s churro bites and Great Scott! Caramel Apple Pie froyo. I also picked up some more Back to the Future Yogurtland stickers.

I love the idea of a fan/customer appreciation day. It makes me appreciate Yogurtland. Thanks Yogurtland!

New Yasso Spoonables Review

Fro-yo girl here. Yasso just launched Spoonables, aka spoonable frozen Greek yogurt tubs. The Spoonables line is available exclusively at Target and will roll out nationwide in 2026. At Target in Pasadena, Yasso tubs were $5.89 each, regular price.

Each Yasso tub has up to 18g of protein and 410 calories. One container is 14 fl oz (smaller than a true pint). It’s lowfat and gluten-free. There is no mention of live and active cultures or probiotics.

Coffee Chocolate Chip: The coffee flavor is strong, but tastes like a bitter instant coffee. It doesn’t taste like good coffee. Also, it doesn’t have any yogurt flavor. But Coffee Chocolate Chip does remind me of coffee ice cream without being as rich and heavy. Yasso was still creamy and spoonable. The best part was the addition of the small chocolatey flakes. One container is 400 calories. One 2/3 cup serving is 150 calories, 3g fat, 19g sugars, and 7g protein.

Available Spoonable flavors: Fudge Brownie, Coffee Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Mint Chocolate Chip, Cookies ‘n Cream. The Spoonable flavors are also available as Yasso bars.

For best results, thaw for five minutes before serving. If you don’t love it, you can get a refund

Yasso first introduced pints in 2018, available in eight flavors. Back then, the tub was actually 16 fl oz, a real pint.

4 out of 5 stars.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Tutti Frutti Montebello Returns

Fro-yo girl here. Tutti Frutti Montebello quietly closed during the pandemic. Then in September 2023, Froyology took over the space. The décor and the machines were the same, but the Tutti Frutti signs had been removed.

Well, Tutti Frutti is back, and the Froyology signs have been removed. The interior still looks the same. They added fresh juices and acai bowls. Twelve froyo flavors were available. Froyo and toppings are $0.97/oz, cheaper than Froyology and Yogurtland at The Shops at Montebello.

It seems like the change occurred around July 2024.

If you blinked, you might have noticed that Froyology existed for a few months. FYI, Yogurtland Montebello is now charging $1.13/oz. Ouch.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Back to the Future Day at Yogurtland: New Topping, New Stickers

Fro-yo girl here. Yogurtland celebrated Back to the Future Day today, with Back to the Future 40th anniversary sticker sheets. Each sticker sheet has eight stickers, including the Delorean, Marty’s skateboard, Back to the Future license plate, Yogurtland spoon, etc. Ask the cashier for the sticker sheets. They’re free.

October 21 is Back to the Future Day because it’s the date that Doc Brown and Marty McFly arrive in the future in Back to the Future Part II. If you show up in a BTTF Doc Brown or Marty McFly costume on 10/21, you can enjoy 30% off your Yogurtland purchase.

I tried the new topping, Doc’s Churro Bites. These are bite size cinnamon sugar donut holes. They’re soft and so good! Get some if you see them.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

New Back to the Future 40th Anniversary Promo at Yogurtland Includes New Flavor

Fro-yo girl here. Yogurtland is celebrating the 40th anniversary of Back to the Future with a new nostalgic fall flavor. Great Scott! Caramel Apple Pie froyo launched today. It’s made with real apples, shortbread, and cinnamon. I don’t like apple pie, so I was skeptical. Fortunately, the flavor was mellow and enjoyable. I tasted the buttery caramel but it wasn’t too strong. The apple flavor is mild too. It’s mellow enough to go with many flavors. The texture was smooth, rich, ad creamy. Recommended toppings: Cinnamon Toast Crunch, whipped cream, almonds.

The flavor is available for a limited time, through November 30, or while supplies last. The location that I went to did not have Doc’s Churro Bites, the BTTF promotional topping. I did learn that they’re going to start giving out BTTF Yogurtland sticker sheets tomorrow.

October 21 is Back to the Future Day because it’s the date that Doc Brown and Marty McFly arrive in the future in Back to the Future Part II. Show up in a BTTF Doc Brown or Marty McFly costume on 10/21 and enjoy 30% off your purchase.

Save the date for Fan Appreciation Day, October 27. Yogurtland wlll offer double points to Real Rewards members and a BOGO free deal.

Yogurtland introduced Caramel Apple froyo back in 2016 as part of the Trolls promo. Caramel Apple Pie is a different and better flavor.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

17th Blogiversary of Fro-yo Girl Speaks

new SWRLIES trailer

Fro-yo girl here. Fro-Yo Girl Speaks turns seventeen today, and I’m taking a moment to reflect on the year in froyo so far. There’s been much talk about the resurgence of froyo, particularly among Gen Z. I do see that Yogurtland on Lake in Pasadena is usually busy at night, and I’ve been surprised by the groups of teens who visit Pinkberry after school without their parents. Most of my froyo friends rarely get froyo these days.

I'm a regular at Yogurtland, Menchie's, Pinkberry, and Yoga-urt. I also like to get froyo from Pita GR, Go Greek, and Anita Gelato.

I’ve tried five brand new froyo shops and trailers this year, fewer than this time last year. These were Go Greek Newport Beach, Nick the Greek North Hollywood (not a froyo shop, but serves Greek froyo), SWRLIES in Highland Park, Golden Spoon in Laguna Beach, and Neptune’s Frozen Treats in Palos Verdes Estates. I made it to one opening day (not the grand opening, though) for Neptune’s Frozen Treats in Rancho Palos Verdes. There have been other new froyo shops, but they’ve mostly been in the OC and San Diego.

I’ve collected eight new froyo spoons (vs. nine last year).

I haven’t been on any froyo trips this year, but I’m heading somewhere next month for froyo. I also went to Vancouver, Canada, last December and had some excellent froyo at Krave Kulture and Killer Ice Cream.

While there haven’t been that many froyo shop openings in Los Angeles County, I did find lots of new froyo at supermarkets, including Chara Greek froyo, Le Zette (sheep’s milk froyo), TruJoy (Greek froyo), and Kri Kri (imported from Greece). Yasso even brought back their spoonable pints.

Salt & Straw came out with Wildflower Honey & Lemon Chess Pie Froyo this summer. I could barely taste the lemon, and there wasn’t much tang, so I was disappointed.

Cantaloop and Frog Frozen Yogurt closed after 17 and 13 years in Hollywood, respectively.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Menchie’s Eagle Rock No Longer Allows Sampling

Fro-yo girl here. I visited Menchie’s Eagle Rock and saw several signs saying that they do not offer samples. In the past, they left sample cups on a tray near the machines. I was told that the amount of sampling abuse (people visiting to get samples without any intention of making a purchase) led to the change in sampling policy.

It’s a shame. They should have the employees dispense the samples and maybe limit the number of samples you can get.

Yogurtland Eagle Rock also does not allow sampling. Sad times.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Neptune’s Frozen Treats Is Now Open in Palos Verdes Estates

Fro-yo girl here. Neptune’s Frozen Treats had a soft opening today, October 17, in Palos Verdes Estates. The shop is family-owned and run by a mom and her daughter. It’s their first shop, and I think the first froyo shop in Palos Verdes Estates. I’ve never been to Palos Verdes Estates before, probably because it didn’t have a froyo shop till today. It’s a gorgeous area by the beach, and the Malaga Cove shopping center looks like a European villa.

Neptune’s has a white and blue theme, inspired by the god of the sea. There are ten soft serve flavors a day (froyo, frozen custard, gelato, vegan (oat milk), and sorbet) and the flavors are thoughtfully paired to encourage you to use the middle handle. The signs also specify which flavors are gluten-free, vegan, lowfat, etc.

The beautiful toppings bar features lovely bowls and gold spoons. All the toppings are labeled with allergens listed (e.g., contains milk, soy, eggs). I spotted fresh fruit, brownies, cheesecake, cookies, mochi, cereal, granola, etc.

It’s $0.98/oz which isn’t too bad considering the area. Also, the shop was impeccably clean and the froyo texture superb. And you can sign up for rewards too. Note, the shop is cashless.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

All the Current Froyo Offerings at Ralphs

Fro-yo girl here. I visited the Ralphs near LACMA to check out their froyo selection. It’s a larger Ralphs store. These are the froyo products that I spotted:

  • Jeni’s Ice Cream pints: While most of Jeni’s produces mostly ice cream, the Lemon & Blueberries Parfait is made with fresh cultured buttermilk and yogurt. That’s frozen yogurt.
  • Simple Truth YoGreek Greek Frozen Yogurt Bars: Simple Truth is Ralph’s private label. YoGreek bars are their answer to Whole Foods Greek froyo bars. There are four bars per box.
  • Yasso: Ralphs carried Yasso Greek yogurt bars, including the chocolate-dipped varieties. They also carried Yasso Poppables, the bite size, chocolate-covered Greek froyo treats, and the froyo sandwiches.

With three brands of froyo, Ralphs has fewer froyo brands as Bristol Farms and the same number as Whole Foods and Vons.

Froyo Scene in Clovis, CA

Clovis is the second largest city in Fresno County, behind Fresno. It is known for its small town atmosphere and western frontier history. The current population is estimated to be 129,196 with a median age of 35.3 years. The average household income in Clovis is $128,557 with a poverty rate of 7.44%.

I found five froyo shops that are currently open in Clovis. All five shops are self-serve. I also found five closed froyo shops. Menchie’s opened a second location this year, and SweetFrog just opened in Clovis. There were far more froyo shop closures, 13, in Fresno, but froyo shops opened earlier in Fresno. The shops that opened in Clovis stayed open longer, probably due to having fewer competitors.

The oldest froyo shop in Clovis was TCBY. The oldest self-serve froyo shop, Mickey’s Yogurt, is still open. It opened in 2012.

Current Froyo Shops

  • JoJo’s Yogurt, 1798 Ashlan Ave Suite 100, offers self-serve froyo and shaved snow. The shop opened in 2014.
  • Menchie’s, 785 Herndon Ave #400, opened at Clovis Commons in 2015.
  • Menchie’s, 3750 Shaw Ave Suite 103, Clovis, CA 93619 opened in April 2025.
  • Mickey’s Yogurt, 2195 Shaw Ave, is a family-owned, non-franchise, self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2012.
  • SweetFrog, 1990 N Fowler Ave Ste 106, opened in September 2025.

Closed Froyo Shops

  • Big Kahuna Yogurt, 1250 Shaw Ave. #103, opened at Sierra Vista Mall in 2013 and closed in 2020 (likely due to the pandemic). It was self-serve. Big Kahuna has several locations in California, mainly in Central California.
  • Clovis Pizza Subs Yogurt, 1345 N Willow Ave, Ste 100, opened in 2019 and closed in 2021.
  • TCBY, 701 W Shaw Ave, may have closed in 2011, but may have been open since the 90s
  • Yummy Yogurt, 1250 Shaw Ave, may have replaced Big Kahuna inside Sierra Vista Mall. The space is now occupied by La Michoacana, so Yummy Yogurt was open some time between 2020 – 2024.
  • Yum Yum Yogurt, 1195 Herndon Ave, was a self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2013 and closed in 2017.

Still Open But Stopped Serving Froyo

  • Costco, 2270 Clovis Ave, Clovis, CA 93612

Did I miss any froyo shops? Let me know if I did.

Second 2025 Price Hike at Yogurtland Lake in Pasadena

Fro-yo girl here. Froyo prices are rising again. Yogurtland on Lake in Pasadena just increased the price from $0.77/oz to $0.79/oz. That’s only the second price hike this year. In 2024, they increased the prices three times. I hope it stays at $0.79/oz at least till the end of this year. They always raise prices in January.

National Spoon Day 2025 at Yogurtland

Fro-yo girl here. Happy National Spoon Day! Yogurtland is celebrating National Spoon Day with exclusive new giant spoons for the sixth time. This year’s spoon color is Midnight Plum, a dark purple. The spoons are a gift with a minimum $12 in-store purchase and a maximum of four spoons per transaction.

I heard that my store had several boxes of giant spoons. This is also the last giant spoon event of 2025.

The giant spoon says Yogurtland on the front of the spoon (on the handle) and nothing on the back. The spoon is exactly 12 inches long.

It’s always fun to see giant spoon collectors who show up early for their spoons.

In case you’re wondering, the previous National Spoon Day giant Yogurtland spoons were: pink and green (2020), raspberry (2021), turquoise (2022), dark blue (2023), and apricot (2024).

Menchie’s October Promotions

Fro-yo girl here. It finally feels like Halloween! Menchie’s has two spooky featured froyo flavors this month. Harvest Pumpkin froyo is back for another month, and that month happens to National Pumpkin Month. And Fruity Cereal froyo is brand new.

Harvest Pumpkin froyo: Menchie’s Harvest Pumpkin froyo is made with real pumpkin, cinnamon, and ginger. Recommended toppings: Butterfinger, chocolate shell, Special Dark chocolate chips

Fruity Cereal froyo: This is a pretty pale pink froyo that tastes like Fruity Pebbles milk. It’s on the mild side, so it would go well with other flavors like vanilla. The froyo is nonfat and gluten-free. It’s made with no artificial colors or artificial flavors. Recommended toppings: fresh fruit, granola, nuts

Menchie’s is also promoting the new Gabby’s Dollhouse The Movie with Cakey’s Cake Batter froyo and a special cup design. Gabby’s Dollhouse The Movie is showing only in theaters.

2025 Pumpkin Yogurt Rankings

Fro-yo girl here. Happy National Pumpkin Month and National Pumpkin Spice Day! It’s also time for the annual pumpkin yogurt rankings. I was surprised that many markets had little to no pumpkin yogurt. Whole Foods had the best selection of pumpkin yogurt this year. This year, I’m ranking five pumpkin yogurt products, all sourced from Whole Foods. I tried all five side by side but not blind.

The contenders:

  • Chobani Pumpkin Spice, 5.3 oz, lowfat blended Greek yogurt
  • Culina Pumpkin Spice, 5 oz, Greek-style blended dairy-free yogurt (coconut-based), sweetened with maple syrup
  • Ellenos Pumpkin Pie, 6 oz, whole milk Greek yogurt, with pie toppings in a separate compartment
  • Noosa Pumpkin, 8 oz, whole milk Australian yogurt
  • Siggi’s Pumpkin & Spice, 5.3 oz, lowfat blended Icelandic skyr

The rankings (in order of preference):

  1. Ellenos: Last year’s winner was still the best pumpkin yogurt, even without the buttery spiced cookie crumble topping that they provide. It tastes the most like pumpkin pie, especially with the cookie crumble.
  2. Culina: The most spice-forward pumpkin yogurt, I also enjoyed the tang. I could taste the coconut, ginger, and clove, but the pumpkin, not so much. It was less sweet than all but Siggi’s.
  3. Siggi’s: The most sour of the yogurts that I tried, it also had a hint of nutmeg.
  4. Chobani: I could taste the nutmeg and cinnamon. It was not super sweet but had an aftertaste that the others didn’t.
  5. Noosa: I do like Noosa in general, but the yogurt was just too sweet and didn’t have much pumpkin or spice.

I haven’t seen La Fermiere’s pumpkin yogurt yet this year.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.
