Happy Baby Organic Yogis Review

Fro-yo girl here. I found a new Greek yogurt snack in my Christmas stocking. Happy Baby Organic Yogis are freeze-dried yogurt & fruit snacks for babies. They’re sold in 1 oz resealable pouches. A pouch is $6.49 at Erewhon.

Yogis are gluten-free, non-GMO, and made with real yogurt. They look like small dots about the size of a dime. The dot is crunchy but also melts in your mouth.

Mixed Berry: The Mixed Berry pouch has pictures of strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries. The Mixed Berry Yogis were slightly sour, pleasant, and fruity.

Strawberry: The Strawberry Yogis were slightly tart and creamy but also a bit powdery in taste and a bit gummy in texture.

I prefer regular yogurt to freeze-dried yogurt. I also prefer the crunchy texture to the melt-in-your-mouth gummy texture.

Available flavors: Mixed Berry, Banana & Mango, Strawberry Banana, Strawberry

One serving of the strawberry yogis is ¼ cup, 25 calories, 0.5g total fat, 4g total sugars, and 1g protein. I would not get these again because they’re expensive and not that tasty. They don’t even contain live and active cultures.

3.5 out of 5 stars.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Allbarm Strawberry Freeze Drying Yogurt Cubes Review

Fro-yo girl here. I found Allbarm freeze-dried yogurt cubes at Zion Market. One pouch is 0.58 oz. The pouch is resealable. The snack is imported from Korea and made with a few ingredients, including local fruit and live lactic acid bacteria. The pouch was $2.99 regular price and 2 for $0.99 on sale.

Strawberry Cubes: These cubes were smaller than the other ones I’ve had. The fruit and yogurt and blended together. The texture is crunchy, but the cubes melt in your mouth. The flavor was tangy and fruity. I liked how it wasn’t that sweet. It was more tangy than sweet. I could definitely taste the strawberries, but the yogurt added some creaminess.

One serving (one pouch) is 63 calories, 0g total fat, 14g total carbs, 10g total sugars

Available flavors: plain, peach, strawberry, blueberry

I first covered the freeze-dried yogurt cubes trend in 2022. The cubes were already popular all over Asia, particularly in China.

It’s a good snack but expensive compared to a cup of yogurt. However, it’s portable and shelf-stable.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

White Rabbit Yogurt Flavor Candy Review

Fro-yo girl here. I grew up eating White Rabbit candy and was excited to find a yogurt flavor at 168 Market in Alhambra. One 180g bag was $5.49. The candies are individually wrapped. They’re imported from China.

White Rabbit Yogurt flavor: Like all White Rabbit candy, the cylindrical candy is firm and chewy. Each piece is wrapped in a thin rice paper sheet that melts in your mouth. The candy is the same size as the regular flavor. It’s white in color. The candy was firmer and harder than I remembered. It’s a bit too hard, but it is very chewy. Because it’s so hard, it lasts for longer than a softer candy. The yogurt flavor is sweet and slightly tangy. It also has a milky flavor. The yogurt flavor reminds me of Yakult. I don’t love it and prefer the regular flavor.

One serving is six pieces, 120 calories, 2g total fat, 25g total carbs, 16g total sugars, and 1g protein.

3.5 out of 5 stars.

RanLi Old Street Fried Bread Yogurt Sandwich Review

Fro-yo girl here. I found Old Street Fried Bread at Yotea in Rosemead, CA for $1.85. The product is called a yogurt sandwich and has a picture of a cup of yogurt on the packaging. It comes in different flavors, but Yotea only had the Yogurt Sandwich flavor. I don’t know much about Old Street Fried Bread, but it’s a popular product that is imported from China. I’m guessing that it was inspired by a street food. It’s not light and crispy like a youtiao.

The treat looks like a twisted donut. The texture was very soft and fluffy. It didn’t taste too fried or heavy. It was lightly sweetened (an American donut is much sweeter). The yogurt cream was injected into the donut. There wasn’t much of it. It was a bit sweeter than the donut. The yogurt flavor wasn’t strong. The exterior was covered in bread crumbs.

The donut wasn't as dry as some packaged bakery products from China, so it's better than average.

One serving is 400 calories, total fat 24g, total carbs 41g, total sugars 12g, and protein 5g. * Yotea, 8449 Garvey Ave Unit 104, Rosemead, CA 91770

Sammy & Jack TopMaker Strawberry Yogurt Flavored Donuts Review

Fro-yo girl here. During a recent trip to the San Gabriel Superstore, I spotted a new yogurt snack to try. Sammy & Jack TopMaker strawberry yogurt-flavored donuts are imported from Taiwan. A 1.41 oz bag was $1.29.

These are puffed corn and rice snacks that look like tiny donuts (there’s a hole in the middle) or a giant Apple Jacks. They taste like something you’d find in a cereal box. They’re light, crunchy, and have a hint of strawberry and milk (but I didn’t detect yogurt). I liked that they weren’t super sweet. If you like Tohato Caramel Corn from Japan, you will like Sammy & Jack TopMaker donuts. Sammy & Jack is also considerably cheaper than Tohato Caramel Corn.

One serving is 220 calories, 13g total fat, 10g total sugar, 0g cholesterol, 24g total carbs, and 2g protein.

I would get these again.

4 out of 5 stars.

OHME! Freeze-Dried Yogurt Crunch Snacks Review

Fro-yo girl here. OHME! is a line of freeze-dried healthy snacks based in Vancouver, Canada. Their snacks include freeze-dried fruit and yogurt crunch bites. The yogurt crunch bites are made with British Columbia Greek yogurt, fruit, and sweetened with organic apple juice. That’s all. There is no added sugar and the ingredients are non-GMO.

I found OHME! snacks at Killer Ice Cream in Vancouver, Canada, and also Helms Bakery in Los Angeles. A 44g pack of fruit yogurt crunch retails for $9 US and can be purchased online on the OHME! online store. The yogurt crunch can be enjoyed as a snack, used as a crunchy topping, or added to baked goods.

Strawberry Yogurt Crunch: There were ten small cubes in the mini pack. Each is about the size of a mini marshmallow. The fruit is blended into the yogurt and then freeze-dried. The cube melts in your mouth. It’s fairly tangy and crunchy. I could taste the strawberries. They taste natural and they’re yummy, but they are expensive for what you get. I’d prefer a cup of good yogurt, but the freeze-dried yogurt crunch is much more convenient if you’re on the go.

One bag is 45 calories, 1g fat, 1g protein, 8g carbs, and 10g sodium.

Flavors: Strawberry, Mango, Pumpkin & Carrot, Raspberry, Dragon Fruit

Freeze-dried yogurt snacks are popular in Asia.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Foodcode Freeze Dried Yogurt Snack Review

Fro-yo girl here. On a recent trip to 99 Ranch in Alhambra, CA, I spotted yogurt snacks from Foodcode that I hadn’t seen before. The front to box is mostly in Chinese but says active lactic acid bacteria 1 CFU. There are some other symbols that I can’t read. The first ingredient listed is cultured milk. The yogurt cubes are imported from China.

99 Ranch had three flavors of Foodcode’s freeze dried yogurt: peach, blueberry, and original. A box is 40g and $5.99/each. Each box comes with a ten pouches. Each pouch contains two small, thick freeze-dried yogurt cubes weighing about 4g total. Each cube is about 1 inch x ½ inch. The cube is crunchy but turns creamy as it melts in your mouth. It tastes like slightly tangy, sweet milk. It’s a pleasant taste but doesn’t taste like plain refrigerated yogurt you’d get in a cup. Foodcode’s yogurt is milder and sweeter. Not a bad snack but it is quite small and expensive. In Asia, freeze-dried yogurt has become a popular snack for kids because it’s healthy and convenient. Pepsico even came out with a freeze-dried yogurt snack called Sunbites for the market in China.

Clio Greek Yogurt Bars Review

Fro-yo girl here. I’ve seen Clio Bars around (e.g., in the refrigerator at Whole Foods near the yogurt) and wondered about them since they’re made with Greek yogurt. They’re portable, individually wrapped, high protein snacks made with Greek yogurt. Clio Bars are kosher, gluten-free, and contain live and active cultures. Even the granola & yogurt parfait bars are gluten-free.

The Original and Less Sugar Clio bars feature a chocolatey coating, with one exception, the Less Sugar Yogurt Coated Mixed Berry Greek Yogurt Bars. The Granola & Greek Yogurt Parfait Bars feature an almond butter or yogurt coating. The Original Clio Bars are described as cheesecake like. Original Clio Bars retail for $1.49/bar, Les Sugar Clio Bars retail for $1.99/bar, and Granola & Yogurt Parfait Bars retail for $2.49/bar.

Vanilla Greek Yogurt Bar: It’s thick and looks like a small candy bar. The chocolate coating didn’t have much flavor but the vanilla yogurt part was firm, creamy, and tangy. It tasted more like yogurt than cheesecake but I like that it tasted like yogurt. One 1.76 oz bar was 140 calories, 6g total fat, 14g total carbs, 11g total sugars, and 9g protein.

Strawberry Greek Yogurt Bar: The strawberry yogurt was pretty tangy but the chocolate coating had little flavor. There was a slightly bitter aftertaste.

Vanilla Almond Granola and Yogurt Parfait Bar: This bar was very sweet with the sweet granola with dried cranberries. The granola was chewy. The yogurt in the center was still tangy. The almond butter coating had little flavor. One 1.94 oz bar was 200 calories, 8g total fat, 22g total carbs, 16g total sugars, and 10g protein.

Strawberry Granola & Yogurt Parfait Bar: This bar was too sweet with the sweet coating, sweet granola, and the dried cranberries. The strawberry yogurt part added a little tang.

These were nice, satisfying snacks but the granola made the parfait bars too sweet. I’d like to try the Less Sugar Clio Bars line next.

Available flavors:

  • Original Clio Bars: Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, Blueberry, Peanut Butter
  • Less Sugar Clio Bars: Peach, Coconut, Mixed Berry, Acai
  • Granola & Greek Yogurt Parfait bars: Strawberry, Vanilla
Tip: They're good frozen!

Freeze Dried Yogurt Cubes Trend

Fro-yo girl here. Shelf-stable yogurt products have become increasingly popular throughout Asia. I’ve noticed bottled ambient yogurt drinks and freeze-dried yogurt cubes at my local Asian grocery stores. Ambient yogurt drinks were launched in China in 2010 and they’ve taken off, accounting for 50% of yogurt sales in 2019. The cold chain distribution in China is not well-developed; ambient yogurt makes yogurt available for markets that don’t have access to refrigerated yogurt. And ambient yogurt products have a much longer shelf life. Also, fewer people are eating breakfast at home, so ambient yogurt offers a convenient, on-the-go source of nutrition.

As more manufacturers started offering ambient yogurt, they developed more varieties. In 2017, ambient yogurt with cereal and fruit was introduced. Ambient yogurt is now available in the Asia (e.g., Singapore, Malaysia, Korea, Indonesia, Thailand), Middle East, Africa, and South America.

Shelf-stable yogurt drinks do not contain live cultures but are still seen as healthy and protein-rich. Freeze-dried yogurt cubes are made by drying yogurt at a low temperature; the process does not kill yogurt cultures. The yogurt is mixed with freeze dried fruit. Freeze-dried yogurt can be reconstituted with water or by adding the yogurt to a beverage. The snacks are also eaten straight out of the bag and on top of cereal or oatmeal.

While Gerber makes yogurt melts (freeze dried yogurt) in the US, their melts are tiny drops for babies and infants.

Here are some manufacturers of freeze-dried yogurt cubes

  • Alor (Malaysia
  • Alvin’s (Korea)
  • Fresh Bulk (Malaysia)
  • Frutara (Malaysia)
  • Fu Kitchen (Malaysia)
  • Little Spoon (Korea)
  • MN (China)
  • Naejae (Korea)
  • One Little C (Malaysia)
  • Papa-I (Korea)
  • Pure Eat (Malaysia)
  • Sanmaeul (Korea)
  • Ssalgwaja (Korea)
  • TG Lite (Malaysia)
  • Wang Bao Bao (China)

I found Alor at Good Fortune Market in Alhambra. One 30g bag was $4.99. They had a few flavors, including durian, chocochips, mango, and strawberry. The cubes are a product of Malaysia and the first ingredient is yogurt. They contain live cultures. One serving (the whole bag) is 120 calories, 3g total fat, 16g total sugars, and 4g protein.

Alor Strawberry: The cubes are small – about ¾ of an inch tall and long and ½ an inch wide. Some pieces are bigger and some have more strawberry pieces.

I tried adding water and stirring to reconstitute. It took quite some time and a lot of stirring before the cubes dissolved into a thin yogurt. It tasted okay…slightly tangy, kinda bland.

I also added a few cubes to soy milk. It took a long time for the cubes to dissolve. They didn’t add much flavor to the soy milk.

My favorite way to eat them was straight out of the bag. They’re crunchy and melt in your mouth. The strawberries are quite tangy. The yogurt wasn’t as flavorful. They’re a bit chalky.

Verdict: The cubes are a fun, portable snack but you get very few in the pouch and fresh yogurt tastes better.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Xiaobai Xin Li Ruan Yogurt Bread Review

Fro-yo girl here. I found Xiaobai Yogurt Pocket Bread while shopping at Great Wall Supermarket in Rosemead, CA. The packaging has no English, so I don’t know much about it. The shelf tag said Xiaobai Bread Yogurt. One package of 4 individually wrapped yogurt was $4.29. The bread is imported from China.

The bread part was a soft white sandwich bread and it was filled with a thicker yogurt thick custard (not sure what to call it but it had the texture of pudding). The bread was the best part – it was soft and mildly sweet. I didn’t like the filling but it did have a mild Yakult like flavor. The bread was sealed around the filling like a Hot Pocket.

It comes in several flavors: Lactobacillus yogurt, strawberry, vanilla, and peach. I read that it tastes better when refrigerated. It’s meant to be a breakfast item that you can eat on the go.

I liked the cute packaging and bread but could not eat the filling.

2 out of 5 stars.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Jayone Yoger Yoger Review

Fro-yo girl here. I found a new yogurt flavored snack called Yoger Yoger at Good Fortune Supermarket. The cute packaging, which features a cartoon of someone dressed in a bunny suit, caught my eye.

Yoger Yoger is Korean and it’s imported by Jayone Foods. It’s a puffed corn snack that looks like a Cheetos puff or Tohato’s Caramel Corn. It’s firm to the touch and somewhat spongy once eaten. Flavor and taste wise it’s not that different from Tohato Caramel Corn. The thin yogurt coating is on the outside though it tastes more like a white chocolate coating than a yogurt coating. It’s pretty tasty (think of it like a cereal) though it doesn’t taste like yogurt, other than a faint hint of Yakult like flavor.

One package is 1.23 ounces, 165 calories, 6.3g of fat, 6g of sugar.

Ingredients: Whey powder, rice powder, corn powder, whole milk powder, sugar, palm oil, glucose, soy lecithin, yogurt flavor, vanillin flavor, citric acid, salt, baking powder

Yoger Yoger was only 79 cents at Good Fortune.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

4 out of 5 stars.

Trader Joe's Yogurt Covered Almonds and Lassis

Fro-yo girl here. Yogurt covered pretzels and raisins have been around for awhile. Now Trader Joe's has yogurt covered whole almonds. California almonds are roasted and dipped in thick white yogurt coating. The creamy coating is quite sweet but a little tangy. It's made with yogurt cultures and yogurt flavored powder. An 11 ounce tub is $3.99. 4 out of 5 stars.

The TJ's Indian style lassis are good too. The plain lassi is quite sour, very thick and very creamy. It's much more sour than it is tangy. I like to either stir in honey or sugar and drink it or add cereal. Lassis are available in mango and plain ($2.69) for 32 fl. ozs. 4 out of 5 stars.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Gerber Graduates Yogurt Melts

Fro-yo girl here. I was amused to see a yogurt snack for babies during my recent grocery shopping trip. Though I like to try most yogurt snacks, something about freeze dried whipped yogurt snacks (for babies) just didn’t tickle my fancy. It seems too processed but the packaging said that the product is 99% real yogurt and fruit. Also, they claim it contains live and active yogurt cultures.

Flavors: Mixed berries, strawberry, peach

If you tried it and liked it (or didn't like it), let me know!

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.
