Lotte Double Dip Yogurt Pepero Review

Fro-yo girl here. I spotted new Lotte Pepero Double Dip Yogurt sticks (Pepero is the Korean version of Pocky) during a recent shopping trip to Loha’s Fresh Mart. It seems like the snack is relatively new. One box is 50g. Loha’s had Pepero Double Dip for $2.19 a box. There were two flavors: Yogurt and CafĂ© Latte. Pepero is imported from South Korea.

One box contains two servings in separate packets. A serving is one pack, 130 calories, 7g total fat, 11g sugars, 16g total carbohydrate, and 2g protein.

* Double Dip Yogurt Pepero: One dip is milk flavored and the second dip is yogurt flavored. The double dipping makes the coating twice as thick as your average Pocky/Pepero. The cookie part is similar to your typical Pocky/Pepero: crunchy, not very sweet, like a pretzel but not as crunchy. The dips are much sweeter than the biscuit cookie stick. The dips are sweet and creamy. The flavor was pretty good. The yogurt dip had a slightly tangy Yakult taste which wasn’t strong enough to be unpleasant (I don’t like Yakult). It did taste a little powdery but I still liked it. Did I like it better than regular Pocky or Pepero? No, but Double Dip Yogurt is a nice alternative to white chocolate.

Ingredients: Vegetable cream I (vegetable oil, sugar, mixed milk powder, lactose, dextrin, lecithin, Greek yogurt powder, citric acid, artificial yogurt flavor, paprika color), vegetable cream II (vegetable oil, sugar, mixed milk powder, lactose, dextrin, artificial milk flavor, artificial sweet flavor), wheat flour, sugar, palm oil, sweetened condensed milk, grain product (whole meal, non-glutinous rice, glutinous rice), liquid whole egg, processed whole milk powder (whey powder, butter oil, lactose, palm oil, milk cream, sodium caseinate, potassium phosphate dibasic, glycerin esters of fatty acides, artificial milk flavor), acidity regulator (ammonium bicarbonate, sodium phosphate (tribasic), sodium bicarbonate), malt extract, salt, fructose corn syrup, artificial flavor (perm bread flavor), vanilla flavor (vanilla extract, proptlene glycol, vanillin, decalactone), papain, yeast.

The list of ingredients is crazy long!

4 out of 5 stars.

Ildong She’s Pro (Calpis) Review

Fro-yo girl here. I spotted Ildong She’s Pro drinks at California Market in Koreatown. It’s a yogurt flavored drink imported from Korea and made by ILDONG Pharmaceutical Co. The bottle says Probiotics in a large font. A bottle is 450ml, 210 calories, 0g fat and 43g sugars. The regular price was $2.49.

Calpis is a Japanese milk based beverage. It’s made with milk that is skimmed. Yeast and lactic acid are added and the mixture is allowed to ferment. Sugar is added and the mixture ferments further until it becomes Calpis.

The drink is sweet, lightly tangy, light and refreshing. The grapefruit helps by adding a subtle fruity flavor. The liquid is clear and milky. It was better than I expected though I wouldn’t drink it regularly because of the amount of sugar. The Japanese Calpis has a milder flavor that I find more pleasant.

Ingredients: Lactobacillus rhamnosus culture fluid, concentrated grapefruit, fructooligosaccharide, sugar, high fructose corn syrup, powdered skim milk, soybean polysaccharide, citric acid anhydrous, sodium citrate, indigestible maltodextrin, yogurt flavor, grapefruit flavor, water

3 out of 5 stars.

7 Eleven Select Lotte Yogurt Jelly Review

Fro-yo girl here. I found Lotte Yogurt Jelly gummy candy during a recent trip to Candy Doll Beauty in San Francisco’s Japantown. The packaging is certainly eye-catching. It looks like a giant bottle of Yakult, the probiotic beverage. Lotte Yogurt Jelly is sold at 7-Eleven stores in Korea. It’s available in three flavors: Original Yogurt, Strawberry Yogurt, Apple Yogurt. The list of ingredients is in Korean only, so I’m not sure what’s in it. A pouch weighs 50g.

* Original Yogurt Jelly: There were about 15 translucent bottle shaped gummy candies in the pouch. The lower half of the bottle was a darker yellow, while the top half was clear. It was firm and chewy but not too firm. Texture wise, it’s much like gummy bears. The flavor was tarter than I expected and I liked that, but then the powdery flavor of Yakult set in. Overall, it’s not bad but I don’t like Yakult, so I wasn’t a huge fan.

Candy Doll had the Original Yogurt and Strawberry Yogurt flavors, for $5 per pouch.

3 out of 5 stars.

Jayone Yoger Yoger Review

Fro-yo girl here. I found a new yogurt flavored snack called Yoger Yoger at Good Fortune Supermarket. The cute packaging, which features a cartoon of someone dressed in a bunny suit, caught my eye.

Yoger Yoger is Korean and it’s imported by Jayone Foods. It’s a puffed corn snack that looks like a Cheetos puff or Tohato’s Caramel Corn. It’s firm to the touch and somewhat spongy once eaten. Flavor and taste wise it’s not that different from Tohato Caramel Corn. The thin yogurt coating is on the outside though it tastes more like a white chocolate coating than a yogurt coating. It’s pretty tasty (think of it like a cereal) though it doesn’t taste like yogurt, other than a faint hint of Yakult like flavor.

One package is 1.23 ounces, 165 calories, 6.3g of fat, 6g of sugar.

Ingredients: Whey powder, rice powder, corn powder, whole milk powder, sugar, palm oil, glucose, soy lecithin, yogurt flavor, vanillin flavor, citric acid, salt, baking powder

Yoger Yoger was only 79 cents at Good Fortune.

Haitai Sand Ace Yogurt Biscuit Review

Fro-yo girl here. Haitai has been busy. They created Haitai Oh Yes Yogurt Cake (like Choco Pie, chocolate coated white cake with a yogurt cream filling) and Haitai Sand Ace Yogurt Biscuits. In the UK, cookies are called biscuits. I guess that’s true in Korea too. I’m going to call them cookies.

Sand Ace Yogurt Biscuits come in a pretty blue and white box. There are 12 packages in the box with 2 cookies per package. Two cookies are 85 calories. The cookies are small and square. The cookie part reminds me a bit of Ritz crackers; they are golden, crispy and not very sweet. They’re slightly salty like a Ritz cracker. The cookies are held together by a creamy filling that tastes like sweet slightly vanilla flavored cream or the filling of an Oreo cookie. I didn’t taste yogurt but still really liked the cookie.

A box of Sand Ace Yogurt Biscuits was $2.99 at Lotte Market. The cookies are made in Korea.

You can purchase the cookies online at: http://kpoptown.com/food/35644-haitai-sand-ace-yogurt-cream-204g.html

Ingredients: Wheat flour, soybean, glucose, coral shortening, sugar, mixed oil, lactose, cream powder, milk powder, skim milk powder, refined salt, prozyme500, lecithin, ammonium carbonate, sodium hydrogen carbonate, milk flavor, vanilla flavor, cream flavor, vitamin B1, vitamin B2.

Haitai Oh Yes Korean Yogurt Cake Review

Fro-yo girl here. A few months ago I stumbled upon Crown Ice Heim frozen yogurt cookies at Hmart in LA’s Koreatown and they were really good. I had high hopes for Oh Yes Yogurt Cake since it looks like Choco Pie (yum Choco Pie). The cakes are made in Korea. I found them at Good Fortune Supermarket for $3.49 a box.

Oh Yes Yogurt Cake comes in a nice light blue box. Each box contains 12 individually wrapped snack cakes. The text on the box is mostly Korean but it says (in English): “Chocolate coated cake since 1984. You know that sweet things make smile. We love to see you smile with your people. So just taste this cake.” Cute – who writes their copy?

The cake is a 1.5 inch square. The thin soft chocolate coating reminds me of the chocolate coating on mini donuts. The white cake is light and there’s a thin layer of creamy filling in the middle that tastes a bit like Yakult or children’s chewable vitamins. The cake would probably taste better without the yogurt flavor but it’s still good because the Yakult flavor is faint and so it tastes like Choco Pie or chocolate mini donuts. It would go well with tea.

One cake is 130 calories with 7g of total fat.

Ingredients: Wheat flour, chocolate, yogurt cream, egg white, white sugar, refined water, corn syrup, shortening, hydrogenated vegetable oil, glucose, margarine, sorbitol, palm oil, baking powder, ester, cream cheese, salt, cream cheese flavor, guar gum.

Yogurt Powder Review: Yogurty by Damtuh Food Co.

Fro-yo girl here. My sharp eye for froyo found a new yogurt/froyo product during a recent shopping trip to 99 Ranch Market. Damtuh Food Co. produces a product called Yogurty that’s imported from Korea. “Yogurty is Damtuh's premium yogurt drink made of milk powders from Italy and France, which gives this drink a smooth, homemade flavor. Just add cold milk for a smooth yogurt drink, or blend all together with ice for instant frozen yogurt and smoothies!”

The box comes with a sports bottle and 20 sticks (packets) of Yogurty powder. The sports bottle comes in handy because it has ml markings for 100, 200 and 300 mls and you can shake your Yogurty with milk in the bottle, and drink from it.

I spotted two flavors, plain and mango. A box was $7.99 at 99 Ranch. They have two other flavors: acai berry and green apple.

To make the yogurt drink, add one stick packet to a cup of cold milk and stir well. The directions are only in Korean on the box but I found an English translation.

  • To make a yogurt drink: Add 1 stick to 100 ml of milk, mix well
  • To make a yogurt smoothie: Blend 60 ml of milk with 1 stick and 100g of ice cubes in a mixer, try blending with your favorite fruits
  • To make frozen yogurt popsicles: Add 1 stick to 100 ml of milk, mix well, pour into a popsicle mold
  • To make salad dressing: Use 50 ml of milk and 50 ml of water with 1 stick, mix well

One stick is 18g with 70 calories, no fat and 16g of carbs. It 3 kinds of live probiotics.
Ingredients: Sugar, glucose powder, skim milk powder, pineapple concentrate powder, yogurt powder, yogurt mixed powder, yogo C, Xylitol, L-ascorbic acid, citric acid, DL-malic acid, salt, yogurt cultures.

* Plain Yogurty with milk: It’s thick and quite foamy. The smell is enticing like yogurt. Flavor wise it’s quite tangy thanks to the citric acid plus pineapple with a sweet aftertaste. It tastes powdery though. I’m not a fan of yogurt drinks but this one was flavorful and better than the Yakult style drinks. I liked it better with twice the amount of recommended milk. I also froze the mixture and it remained frothy.
