Yogurtland’s The Golden Girls Fabulous at 40 Promotion & A Surprise Flavor Returns

Fro-yo girl here. Happy National Cheesecake Day! Today also marked the launch of Yogurtland’s promo with Disney to honor the 40th anniversary of The Golden Girls.

The promo includes the “Thank You for Being Cheesecake” frozen yogurt, “Picture It… Cheesecake Bites,” and an online exclusive Golden Girls Fabulous 40 Cup featuring the “Thank you for Being Cheesecake” flavor topped with strawberries, chocolate chips, cheesecake bites, and Fruity Pebbles cereal. Orders can be placed online at yogurtland.com or through the Yogurtland mobile app, from July 30 through Aug. 17.

The girls always loved their cheesecake, so it's nice to see their love turn into frozen yogurt inspiration.

All seven seasons of The Golden Girls are available for streaming on Hulu.

I picked up some additional The Golden Girls Yogurtland sticker sheets and…had my first cup of pumpkin pie froyo this year. Pumpkin Pie froyo is back! And it's swirling with Cheesecake froyo.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Fruit Whisper Strawberry Ice Bar Review

Fro-yo girl here. The new batch of 3D fruit-shaped ice cream from China includes Fruit Whisper’s strawberry and grape ice bars. They’re sold in packs of three. Zion Market was selling a single strawberry ice bar for $4.99 and a box of three for $12.99. The bars are imported from China.

One ice bar is 2.65 oz, 220 calories, 15g total fat, 14g total sugars, 18g total carbs, and 3g protein. The bars are halal.

Strawberry ice bar: I noticed the packaging isn’t as nice as the other 3D fruit bars. The base was plain white plastic, and the paper leaves looked cheap. The ice cream itself did look nice and strawberry-like. The exterior is an imitation white chocolate shell that has a mild flavor. The ice cream is firmer and icier than the other 3D fruit bars, but I did appreciate how it tasted more like the fruit that it looks like than the other 3D fruit bars. I could taste the strawberry jam that was blended into the ice cream. It was still creamy but not as smooth and soft as the other 3D fruit bars. It was good.

4 out of 5 stars.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

The Golden Girls Fabulous 40 at Yogurtland

Fro-yo girl here. A few days ago, I saw the Golden Girls sitting on a couch holding cups of Yogurtland froyo with cheesecake toppings on my Instagram feed. I didn’t really think anything of it, figuring that someone liked the Golden Girls. Then, I received an email from Yogurtland that said, “Picture it… Summer 2025. Golden Girls is Coming to Yogurtland! Cheesecake lovers, your moment has arrived. To celebrate 40 fabulous years of The Golden Girls, Yogurtland is serving up a swirl worthy of the sassiest ladies in Miami — Thank you for being Cheesecake Frozen Yogurt! Come celebrate with us for a limited time and thanks for being a friend!” So, they renamed the Cheesecake flavor for the Golden Girls. The Golden Girls turns 40 this year, and you can stream the show on Hulu. The girls must have all liked cheesecake?

I’m waiting to hear more about the promo, but in the meantime, I did find GOLDEN GIRLS sticker sheets at Yogurtland. The sticker sheet is smaller than usual and features 13 stickers. The stickers include the four women/Golden Girls, strawberries, Yogurtland spoon, Yogurtland cup, etc. The sticker sheets are complimentary and available while supplies last.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Froyo Scene in Anaheim, CA

Brewberry Cafe

Fro-yo girl here. Anaheim is the home of the Disneyland Resort, Honda Center, and Angel Stadium. Interestingly, each of these venues offered froyo in the past. Located in Orange County about 25 miles southeast of Los Angeles, Anaheim has a population of 340,512.

The first froyo shop was probably Penguin’s Frozen Yogurt. I’m guessing that it opened in the 1980s. There are currently five frozen yogurt shops in Anaheim and I found 13 closed frozen yogurt shops and one café that is still open but stopped offering frozen yogurt. Most of the froyo shops have been self-serve. Yogurtland's success likely encouraged other self-serve froyo shops to open in the area.

Current Froyo Shops

  • Golden Spoon, 5655 E La Palma Ave, opened at Imperial Promenade in 2008. Golden Spoon was founded in Tustin in 1981.
  • Pinkberry, 2626 E Katella Ave Space D, is the last Pinkberry left in Orange County. It opened in 2017 at ARTIC, the regional transportation center.
  • Yogurtland, 111 E Katella Ave. #20, opened in 2019.
  • Yogurtland, 683 N Euclid St, opened at Euclid Plaza in 2009. The price was $0.30/oz back in 2009.
  • Yogurtland, 5761 E Santa Ana Canyon Rd, opened in April 2009 in the Anaheim Hills area. It is the oldest Yogurtland in Anaheim.

Closed Froyo Shops

  • Bella’s on Katella, 1030 W Katella Ave, was a self-serve froyo shop inside Anaheim’s Anabella Hotel in 2017. It’s hard to say when it closed.
  • Center Ice Frozen Yogurt, 2695 E Katella Ave, was a frozen yogurt concession stand inside the Honda Center, the arena that is the home of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks NHL hockey team. The last review as posted in 2017. You can still get soft serve at the Honda Center, but its soft serve ice cream.
  • Clarabelle’s, Mickey's Toontown, was the ice cream shop at Disneyland that opened in 1993 and closed in 2022. It offered two flavors of soft serve froyo, vanilla and chocolate. Clarabelle’s Hand-Scooped Ice Cream at California Adventure Park does not offer froyo.
  • Exquisito, 720 N Brookhurst St, had a wide variety of items, including frozen yogurt, Mexican snacks (e.g., elote, chamoy apples, tostilocos), crepes, waffles, ice cream, acai bowls, etc.
  • Exquisito opened in March 2018 and closed in 2019. The space is now occupied by a boba tea shop called 4Seasons Tea Café.
  • Jerry’s Yogurt, 301 S Anaheim Blvd Ste B, was a self-serve shop that opened in 2011 and closed in 2013. The space was then occupied by OMG Dessert Lounge.
  • OMG Dessert Lounge, 301 S Anaheim Blvd Unit B, opened in 2014 as a self-serve froyo shop. In addition to froyo, they had freakshakes, macarons, cheesecakes, smoothies, milkshakes, frappes, etc. OMG closed in 2019, then reopened in 2021. When it reopened in 2021, it no longer offered froyo, but instead offered macarons, boba drinks, mochi, cookies, and pastries.
  • Penguin’s Frozen Yogurt, 5773 E Santa Ana Canyon Rd Ste D, was open in the 1980s most likely.
  • Swirl, 6312 E Santa Ana Canyon Rd, opened in 2008 and closed in 2012. It was self-serve.
  • Swirls Frozen Yogurt, 140 W Center St, was a self-serve shop that opened in 2009 and closed in 2012. They also served crepes.
  • Tutti Frutti, 2306 S Harbor Blvd, was a self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2009 and closed in 2014. The space is now occupied by Ding Tea.
  • Tutti Frutti, 510 N Brookhurst St, opened in 2010 and closed in 2013.
  • Yogurtland Express, 2000 East Gene Autry Way, was a concession stand at Angel Stadium. It was not self-serve. It may have opened in 2016 and closed in 2021.
  • Yogurtland Express, 2000 East Gene Autry Way, was a second concession stand at Angel Stadium that opened in 2016 and is now closed.

Still Open But No Longer Serves Froyo

  • Brewberry Café, 1770 S Harbor Blvd, Ste 120, opened in 2014, offering self-serve froyo, coffee, and more. They remodeled and stopped offering froyo in 2022.

Did I miss any froyo shops in Anaheim? If so, let me know.

Yogurtland Eagle Rock Now Offers ChocoBananas

Fro-yo girl here. During my recent visit to Yogurtland Eagle Rock, I noticed a new ChocoBanana sign. The ChocoBananas are a new offering! These are frozen bananas dipped in chocolate. Some of them come with a sprinkle of peanuts (and other toppings?). I didn’t see any (they must keep them in the back). They’re priced at $5 per banana. I think other Yogurtland locations have ChocoBanana, but not all of them.

I loathe bananas, so I can’t try them. Plus, I don’t think they contain any frozen yogurt?

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Smorgasburg LA Ice Cream Alley 2025 Report

Fro-yo girl here. Ice Cream Alley is back at Smorgasburg Los Angeles on Sundays from now through August 31. The lineup of vendors changes every year. There’s always at least one new vendor that I haven’t tried. I’ve noticed that there aren’t as many vendors now. Pre-pandemic, there were about a dozen. Post-pandemic, they’ve had 7-8 vendors. While Ice Cream Alley is smaller, it still attracts vendors that produce a range of global flavors.

This year’s line-up:

  • 626 Hospitality Group: The flavors of 626, hard scoop ice cream. They do have soft serve, but only at the shop in Arcadia.
  • Mateo’s Ice Cream: Mexican ice cream and paletas, four shops in Los Angeles
  • Lefty Gelateria: Michelin chef crafted gelato, I spied a crème brulee sundae
  • Pampas Helados Argentinos: Argentinian helado, had some interesting flavors like yerba mate and malbec, also offers alfajores
  • Sad Girl Creamery: Latin inspired ice cream tacos and small batch ice cream
  • Moom Maam: artisanal Thai gelato, I tried it last year
  • Bernie’s: shaved granita ice with real fruit

I’m surprised that Wanderlust Creamery and Kinrose Creamery no longer participate. There was no froyo either.

The event is free. Parking is also free. Smorgasburg LA is open from 10 AM – 4 PM.

Abink Corn Ice Milk Bar Review

Fro-yo girl here. I noticed several new ice bars/popsicles that you can buy individually at 99 Ranch Market. The single-serve popsicles that they had last summer have disappeared. Corn ice cream seems to be having a moment, as several Chinese and Korean brands have corn ice bars that look like ears of corn and contain corn kernels.

99 Ranch Market was selling Abink corn milk ice bars for $3.99 each. One bar is 68g. The bars are imported from Hebei Province in China.

Corn ice milk bar: It does look like an ear of corn. The bar had a lot of corn kernels. The corn ice milk was firm and creamy. It’s made with whole milk powder and does have a milky flavor. The corn flavor is very pronounced. It’s good but super sweet (far from Asian sweet).

One bar is 118 calories, 5g total fat, and 15g total carbs.

4 out of 5 stars.

Yoga-urt 10th Anniversary New Flavor Reveal & Other Anniversary News

Fro-yo girl here. I was lucky enough to sample Yoga-urt’s tenth anniversary NEW flavor. It’s purple, proprietary, and plant-based (plus organic, all natural, hand-crafted, soy-free, etc). The new flavor is Purple Lotus (watermelon & hibiscus). Mmmm, so good. I’ve never had that flavor combination before and you know I love a creative flavor. It’s the perfect summer flavor, since it’s watermelon season. The watermelon makes it sweet and light, but the hibiscus gives it a slightly tart edge that I really appreciate. Try it now. The yogurt is made in limited batches, so hurry.

I also tried the new waffle cones which are made with the almond and cashew pulp that’s the byproduct of the almond and cashew milk that’s made in-house. The new cones are light and crunchy. They might be a bit thinner than the old cones. And yes, they are gluten-free.

Tomorrow, July 12, is the tenth anniversary celebration at all Yoga-urt locations. You’ll get to try the new flavor, Purple Lotus. The first 50 customers at each location will get a custom Yoga-urt bamboo spoon. You can also order a limited edition birthday sundae and the new waffle cones. Also, enjoy $1 off all soft serve bowls from 3 PM - 5 PM (one per customer).

The shops are in Glendale, Echo Park, Santa Monica, and Granada Hills.

Menchie’s x Disney’s Zombies 4 Event

Fro-yo girl here. Thank you, Disney’s Zombies, for another free froyo event. Zombies 3 was supposed to be the final installment of the Zombies movie series, but the Zombies are back for Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires, now streaming on Disney+.

The first 50 guests at Menchie’s locations at 3 PM on July 10 received five ounces of free froyo. Menchie’s in Burbank handled the crowd in an organized fashion, handing out slips of paper to the first 50 guests. I also spotted Zombies 4 posters, cups, and a flavor, No Sugar Added Chocolate.

In Zombies 4, Zed, a zombie, and Addison, a human cheerleader, become camp counselors to two rival factions, Daywalkers and Vampires.

All the Current Froyo Offerings at Gelson’s

Fro-yo girl here. Gelson’s in La Canada Flintridge, CA, always has a great froyo and ice cream selection. During my recent visit, I spotted the following froyo products:

  • Sweetkiwi tubs: for yogurt lovers, this is one of the few products that doesn’t mask the flavor of the yogurt. Sweetkiwi whipped Greek froyo is rich in probiotics, fiber, and immune-boosting superfoods, and it's low in calories.
  • Yasso bars: Gelson’s had Yasso’s Greek yogurt bars, Poppables, and the froyo sandwiches too. The chocolate-dipped crunch bars are my favorite Yasso product.
  • Enlightened Greek Yogurt Bars: Enlightened’s frozen Greek yogurt bars are low in sugar and contain prebiotics and probiotics. The bars are sweetened with monkfruit.

With three brands of froyo, Gelson’s has fewer froyo brands than Bristol Farms and the same number as Whole Foods, Ralph’s, and Vons.

Bubbies Key Lime Pie Ice Cream Sandwiches Review

Fro-yo girl here. Bubbies Ice Cream, known for its line of mochi ice cream, introduced mini ice cream cookie sandwiches recently. The sandwiches are available exclusively at Sprouts nationwide with a suggested retail price of $6.99 - $7.99. There are two flavors, Key Lime Pie, Strawberry Shortcake. Each box contains six individually wrapped mini sandwiches. One sandwich is 1.25 oz

Key lime pie: This was really good. The golden cookie was soft like s shortbread or sugar cookie and was mildly sweet. The ice cream was firm, creamy, smooth, and tangy. It had lots of key lime flavor. Both the cookie and ice cream were better than the typical ice cream sandwich, though not quite as good as Jeni’s key lime pie froyo sandwiches. Also, the first sandwich I tried didn’t have much ice cream (see the picture). It didn’t look like the sandwiches pictured on the box. But the second sandwich looked normal.

One Bubbies sandwich is 110 calories, 5g total fat, 16g total carbs, 8g total sugars, and 1g protein. It is kosher and non-GMO.

4.5 out of 5 stars.

626 Night Market: Asian Food Trends and the Return of Froyo

Fro-yo girl here. I stopped going to 626 Night Market in Arcadia because of the pandemic. Going anywhere with crowds just seemed unappealing. But I returned this year because I saw that at least one vendor was going to offer frozen yogurt. The last time I went was in 2019. I reread my 2019 post and it sums up how I felt about the 2025 edition. It was far less crowded than in prior years, but maybe that’s because I went on July 4th. They’ve added more tables and benches for you to sit.

I saw many trends, but most have already been offered elsewhere (e.g., Labubu dolls, Dubai chocolate cups, tanghulu, charms, crochet dolls, freeze-dried fruit). It felt like there were fewer food vendors and fewer food trucks. They used to have better food trucks and more Chinese food. There used to be at least two stinky tofu vendors. This year, I didn’t smell stinky tofu once, and there were more Japanese food vendors than Chinese. You can still find adventurous foods like balut, pork blood cake (so delicious), and durian smoothies.

But, frozen yogurt returned! MOJO had fried yogurt skewers, aka thick-cut yogurt. The yogurt is poured onto a freezing pan and sliced into bite-sized shapes after freezing. Some shops add fruit, nuts, seeds, and grains.

MOJO had three flavors of fried yogurt: mango, strawberry, and pitaya. The cubes were made with yogurt and fruit. Each skewer had three cubes. Two skewers were $7. The strawberry yogurt cubes were creamier than the pitaya cubes. The pitaya yogurt had more tang. The cubes were very firm. The yogurt was lightly sweetened. Because the cubes were so plain, it felt like something that I could easily make at home. But, it was nice to see a frozen yogurt treat at the night market.

There were a few things that I wanted to try, including the Japanese fried sando from Sandoitchi and the Japanese egg-shaped cakes.

Free parking. Admission is $5.90 (presale), $6.93 general admission.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Menchie’s New Summer Spoon, Stay Cool

Fro-yo girl here. The seasonal spoon has become a tradition at Menchie’s. The newest summer spoon features Menchie holding a round pool float. He’s also wearing sunglasses. The spoon says Stay Cool on the handle. The back of the spoon shows Menchie’s back side. He’s wearing shorts and a t-shirt. The spoon is a pretty light blue color.

Yoga-urt’s Ten Year Anniversary Celebration on July 12

Fro-yo girl here. If you read my blog on a regular basis, you know that I LOVE YOGA-URT and have been a customer since the Kenneth Village shop first opened ten years ago. I’m thrilled that Yoga-urt is turning ten and in awe of the founder’s dedication and commitment to offering the best all-organic, plant-based, probiotic soft serve (also known as frozen yogurt).

To celebrate ten years, all Yoga-urt locations will be offering the following on Saturday, July 12:

  • A brand new flavor
  • Custom commemorative bamboo spoons for the first 50 customers at each location
  • A limited edition birthday sundae
  • $1 off all soft serve bowls from 3 PM - 5 PM (one per customer)
  • New waffle cones

Yoga-urt’s soft serve is free of dairy, soy, and gluten. It's all-natural. The base is made with hand-squeezed almond and cashew milk. The shops are in Glendale, Echo Park, Santa Monica, and Granada Hills. Here's a picture of the first store, in Glendale's Kenneth Village.

Menchie’s New Mystery Swirls Flavors, Contest, & Free Froyo

Fro-yo girl here. It’s a busy month at Menchie’s. Let’s start with the new Mystery Swirls, both of which are sorbets. Menchie’s usually introduces new sorbet flavors during July.

There are two mystery flavors, Razzle Dazzle sorbet and Snazzy Jazzy sorbet. Based on the names alone, I would have guessed that Razzle Dazzle would be a raspberry flavor and Snazzy Jazz would be an apple flavor. But looking at the color, my guess would be the other way around.

Razzle Dazzle sorbet: It definitely tasted like green apple sorbet and had a nice tang.

Snazzy Jazzy sorbet: The flavor wasn’t as distinctive, but I’m guessing that it’s watermelon. If you told me it was a berry flavor, I wouldn’t be totally surprised.

Razzle Dazzle sorbet tasted better. Both sorbets are made without artificial colors or artificial flavors, are gluten-free, and contain no high fructose corn syrup.

The new Mystery Swirls contest gives Menchie’s guests a chance to win free gift cards and free Menchie’s merch. To enter, visit Menchie’s in July and take a picture with Menchie’s Mystery Swirls photo frame. Post the picture on Instagram with the tag #MenchiesMysterySwirls.

Save the date for free froyo and the premiere of the Disney Channel’s Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires. To get your free froyo, visit Menchie’s on Thursday, July 10th. The first 50 guests at 3pm will get their five ounces free.

Noosa Mix-Ins Review

Fro-yo girl here. Noosa just released a new product line called Noosa Mix-Ins, featuring Noosa whole milk yogurt paired with toppings. The toppings are stored in a separate compartment. I found three flavors at Target: Cherry, Strawberry, and Coconut. One 5.8 oz cup was $2.39 on sale ($2.99 regular price).

Strawberry yoghurt with granola, almonds, & strawberries: it’s good yogurt but too sweet. The mix-ins added some crunch. The strawberry pieces were freeze-dried. The mix-ins were fine but not as good as the fresh fruit and granola that I add to yogurt. However, the Mix-ins are very convenient. It’s also a good size for breakfast. The regular Noosa tubs are bigger, 8 oz. vs. 5.8 oz. Eight ounces is too much for breakfast.

Cherry yoghurt with granola, almonds, chocolate & cherries: I liked this better than the strawberry because the freeze-dried cherries added some much needed tang. I also liked the chocolate chips.  One serving is 280 calories, 12g total fat, 9g protein, 34g total carbs, and 27g total sugars.

Available flavors: Cherry, Coconut, Strawberry, Blueberry, Lemon, Caramel Apple

I remember when Noosa came out with Noosa Mates in 2017. The flavors were different, but the idea was the same, pairing the yogurt with a compartment of crunchy mix-ins.

Last Cantaloop Closes in Hollywood

2023

2025

Fro-yo girl here. Cantaloop was one of the older froyo shops in Los Angeles. This was their first location; it opened in April 2007 and was similar to Pinkberry (i.e., counter-serve, tart froyo specialist). Paris Hilton visited in 2007, in the early days of the tart froyo craze.

In 2008, the owners decided to add coffee, oatmeal, and waffles and convert to self-serve. The menu continued to expand over the years. Additions included shaved ice, smoothies, slushies, ice blended drinks, and boba drinks. In 2022, Cantaloop began offering Ethiopian food, first out of a mobile van parked in the parking lot and later in the actual storefront. Ownership changed a few times. I wish that I had gone when it first opened in 2007.

I hadn’t visited for a long time, because I didn’t like it, but I would always look at it when driving by. The storefront is vacant now. It probably closed earlier this year?

I remember the Pasadena and Culver City locations. Those closed a long time ago. The Cantaloop in Pasadena closed in 2012 and the Culver City one in 2010.
