Froyo Scene in Costa Mesa, CA

Fro-yo girl here. Costa Mesa in Orange County is known for being the home of South Coast Plaza, the largest shopping center on the West Coast. The current population is approximately 106,069 and has been declining in recent years. The median household income was $110,073 in 2023.

There are seven places to get froyo in Costa Mesa today. The oldest of these is Yogurt America’s Cup, which opened in 1987 and is self-serve. It was called America’s Cup when it opened. Five of the seven remaining shops in Costa Mesa are self-serve.

I found six closed froyo shops in Costa Mesa. Golden Spoon was probably the oldest of the closed shops, though I couldn’t determine the opening date.

I thought there would have been more froyo in town because of South Coast Plaza, but I was wrong.

Current Places To Get Froyo

  • Boba Junkie, 2300 Harbor Blvd Suite N-6, opened in 2020. It took over a self-serve boba business and kept the self-serve froyo. Boba Junkie has other locations in the OC, but the Costa Mesa one is the only one with froyo.
  • House of Yogurt, 369 E 17th St #27, is a self-serve shop that opened in 2008. They hand-craft their yogurt flavors and offer 14 flavors at a time.
  • IKEA, 1475 S Coast Dr, opened in 2003. You can get froyo at the IKEA snack bar.
  • Milk & Honey, 2981 Bristol St B6, is located at The Camp. The Korean coffee and dessert shop offers counter-serve froyo, including shaved ice topped with froyo. The shop opened in 2008.
  • Miss Donuts & Yogurt, 2200 Harbor Blvd, is a donut shop that also offers self-serve froyo. The shop opened in 2013.
  • Yogurt America’s Cup, 427 E 17th St UNIT E, is a self-serve froyo shop opened in 1987 and later opened another shop on Harbor Blvd.
  • Yogurtland, 1450 Baker St, Ste A2, opened in 2008 and is located near South Coast Plaza

Closed Froyo Shops

  • America’s Cup, 2300 Harbor Blvd Ste N-6, opened in 2008. Both America’s Cup locations were owned by the same couple but this location was sold to Boba Junkie. The original America’s Cup name was changed to Yogurt America’s Cup.
  • Beach Berries, 1696 Newport Blvd, was a counter-serve froyo shop that may have opened in 2007 or 2008 and closed in 2013. The original location was in Huntington Beach.
  • Golden Spoon, 2801 Harbor Blvd # A, may have closed in 2012. I don’t know when it opened.
  • Golden Spoon, 488 E 17th St Ste B105, closed in 2010. I'm not sure when it opened.
  • Sweet Chills Frozen Yogurt, 2801 Harbor Blvd Ste A, was a counter-serve froyo shop offering ten flavors a day. It took over the Golden Spoon space in 2012 and may have closed in 2014.
  • We Heart Froyo was a froyo truck that operated from 2012 – 2015.

Did I miss any froyo in Costa Mesa? If so, let me know.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Froyo Scene in Anaheim, CA

Brewberry Cafe

Fro-yo girl here. Anaheim is the home of the Disneyland Resort, Honda Center, and Angel Stadium. Interestingly, each of these venues offered froyo in the past. Located in Orange County about 25 miles southeast of Los Angeles, Anaheim has a population of 340,512.

The first froyo shop was probably Penguin’s Frozen Yogurt. I’m guessing that it opened in the 1980s. There are currently five frozen yogurt shops in Anaheim and I found 13 closed frozen yogurt shops and one café that is still open but stopped offering frozen yogurt. Most of the froyo shops have been self-serve. Yogurtland's success likely encouraged other self-serve froyo shops to open in the area.

Current Froyo Shops

  • Golden Spoon, 5655 E La Palma Ave, opened at Imperial Promenade in 2008. Golden Spoon was founded in Tustin in 1981.
  • Pinkberry, 2626 E Katella Ave Space D, is the last Pinkberry left in Orange County. It opened in 2017 at ARTIC, the regional transportation center.
  • Yogurtland, 111 E Katella Ave. #20, opened in 2019.
  • Yogurtland, 683 N Euclid St, opened at Euclid Plaza in 2009. The price was $0.30/oz back in 2009.
  • Yogurtland, 5761 E Santa Ana Canyon Rd, opened in April 2009 in the Anaheim Hills area. It is the oldest Yogurtland in Anaheim.

Closed Froyo Shops

  • Bella’s on Katella, 1030 W Katella Ave, was a self-serve froyo shop inside Anaheim’s Anabella Hotel in 2017. It’s hard to say when it closed.
  • Center Ice Frozen Yogurt, 2695 E Katella Ave, was a frozen yogurt concession stand inside the Honda Center, the arena that is the home of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks NHL hockey team. The last review as posted in 2017. You can still get soft serve at the Honda Center, but its soft serve ice cream.
  • Clarabelle’s, Mickey's Toontown, was the ice cream shop at Disneyland that opened in 1993 and closed in 2022. It offered two flavors of soft serve froyo, vanilla and chocolate. Clarabelle’s Hand-Scooped Ice Cream at California Adventure Park does not offer froyo.
  • Exquisito, 720 N Brookhurst St, had a wide variety of items, including frozen yogurt, Mexican snacks (e.g., elote, chamoy apples, tostilocos), crepes, waffles, ice cream, acai bowls, etc.
  • Exquisito opened in March 2018 and closed in 2019. The space is now occupied by a boba tea shop called 4Seasons Tea Café.
  • Jerry’s Yogurt, 301 S Anaheim Blvd Ste B, was a self-serve shop that opened in 2011 and closed in 2013. The space was then occupied by OMG Dessert Lounge.
  • OMG Dessert Lounge, 301 S Anaheim Blvd Unit B, opened in 2014 as a self-serve froyo shop. In addition to froyo, they had freakshakes, macarons, cheesecakes, smoothies, milkshakes, frappes, etc. OMG closed in 2019, then reopened in 2021. When it reopened in 2021, it no longer offered froyo, but instead offered macarons, boba drinks, mochi, cookies, and pastries.
  • Penguin’s Frozen Yogurt, 5773 E Santa Ana Canyon Rd Ste D, was open in the 1980s most likely.
  • Swirl, 6312 E Santa Ana Canyon Rd, opened in 2008 and closed in 2012. It was self-serve.
  • Swirls Frozen Yogurt, 140 W Center St, was a self-serve shop that opened in 2009 and closed in 2012. They also served crepes.
  • Tutti Frutti, 2306 S Harbor Blvd, was a self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2009 and closed in 2014. The space is now occupied by Ding Tea.
  • Tutti Frutti, 510 N Brookhurst St, opened in 2010 and closed in 2013.
  • Yogurtland Express, 2000 East Gene Autry Way, was a concession stand at Angel Stadium. It was not self-serve. It may have opened in 2016 and closed in 2021.
  • Yogurtland Express, 2000 East Gene Autry Way, was a second concession stand at Angel Stadium that opened in 2016 and is now closed.

Still Open But No Longer Serves Froyo

  • Brewberry Café, 1770 S Harbor Blvd, Ste 120, opened in 2014, offering self-serve froyo, coffee, and more. They remodeled and stopped offering froyo in 2022.

Did I miss any froyo shops in Anaheim? If so, let me know.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Froyo Scene in Buena Park, California

Berrysweet, Buena Park

Fro-yo girl here. The home of Knott’s Berry Farm, Buena Park, is a smaller city in northern Orange County with a population of 82,450 (2022). Over 42% of residents are Hispanic, 28% Asian, and 22% Anglo. The Entertainment Corridor also includes Pirate's Dinner Adventure, Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament, and several hotels.

The earliest froyo shop in Buena Park was Golden Spoon. Golden Spoon was founded in Orange County in the 1980s and I'm not sure when it opened in Buena Park, but it was before the second wave of froyo. The second froyo wave in Buena Park occurred in 2008 with the opening of Berry Cool, Berrysweet, and Tutti Frutti.

I found eight closed froyo shops and one that’s still open, Yogurtland. The majority of these shops were self-serve. None were truly innovative.

Knott’s Berry Farm has an ice cream shop called Mix-It-Up. You can get soft serve ice cream there but not froyo.

Current Froyo Shop

Yogurtland opened at 5972 Orangethorpe Avenue, opened in November 2013.

Closed Shops

  • Berry Cool, 5238 Beach Blvd, was a self-serve froyo shop that opened in May 2008 and closed in 2013.
  • Berrysweet, 8308 La Palma Ave, was a self-serve froyo shop in downtown Buena Park that opened in 2008 and closed in 2018.
  • Cool Berry, 8532 Commonwealth Ave, was a shaved ice and counter-serve froyo shop that opened in 2007 and closed in 2008. Interestingly, Berry Cool opened in 2008 with a self-serve froyo format, in a different location.
  • Golden Spoon, 8261 La Palma Ave, was an old-school counter-serve froyo shop and a part of the chain that started in Orange County. It probably opened before 2007. It closed in 2017.
  • Poki Yo, 6924 Beach Blvd Ste K-333, was a build-your-own poke bowl eatery at The Source which opened in 2017 and closed in 2018. They gave diners free froyo with a purchase of a meal. The frozen yogurt machine broke in 2018. They had other locations and some of them also had froyo machine problems.
  • Spoonful Yogurt Café, 5151 Beach Blvd, Unit F, was a self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2014. I’m not sure when it closed but it was replaced by Yuchun, a Korean restaurant, in 2016.
  • Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt, 7941 Beach Blvd, Ste D, opened in May 2008 and closed in 2022. Like other Tutti Frutti shops, it was self-serve.

Froyo Scene in Riverside, CA

Fro-yo girl here. The city of Riverside in Riverside County, CA, has a population of 320,764 (2022) and is about 50 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles. The first froyo shop in Riverside was probably a TCBY or Golden Spoon, but I’m not sure which. Golden Spoon survived until 2022. The first self-serve froyo shop was Swirl which opened in March 2008 and was later renamed Mumbles. BerrySweet was also an early self-serve froyo shop; it opened in April 2008. Reviewers claimed that Yogurtland put both out of business by opening nearby and charging less per ounce.

Today, there are six froyo shops in Riverside and they’re all self-serve. Yogurtland has three shops, including one in the old Golden Spoon space.
The most popular spots for froyo are by UC Riverside or at the Mall, Galleria at Tyler.

  • CJ’s Frozen Yogurt, 10333 Magnolia Ave, was a froyo shop. I couldn’t find any reviews, so I assume that it was open a long time ago.
  • Golden Spoon, 19348 Van Buren Boulevard, was a counter-serve froyo shop that closed in 2022. A new owner took over in 2018 and then again in 2021. I’m not sure when it first opened but it had an older GS spoon look before being remodeled, and the first reviewer in 2009 said that she had been going there for years.
  • Golden Spoon, 1310 Galleria at Tyler, had a shop at the Galleria at Tyler. I couldn’t find any reviews, so it probably closed a long time ago.
  • Golden Swirl, 4250 Van Buren Blvd. I couldn’t find any reviews, so it probably closed a long time ago. It was counter-serve and similar to Golden Spoon.
  • Mickey’s Yogurt, 5225 Canyon Crest Dr STE 90, took over the SweetFrog space at Canyon Crest Towne Centre. The self-serve shop opened in 2020 and closed in February 2022. It is now the home of Break the Ice, a taiyaki ice cream shop.

  • TCBY, 1170 Galleria At Tyler, had a shop at the Galleria at Tyler. I couldn’t find any reviews, so it probably closed a long time ago.

Froyo Guide to Thousand Oaks

Sweet XO at The Oaks

Fro-yo girl here. Thousand Oaks, California is the second largest city in Ventura County, with a population of 125,766. It’s 35 miles west of downtown Los Angeles and considered one of the safest cities in the US. Thousand Oaks also has a Tree City USA designation and is home to nearly 20,000 oak trees.

The first froyo shop in Thousand Oaks must have opened in the early 1980s and was probably a Penguin’s. Penguin’s was based in Thousand Oaks. It was founded in 1983 and reached well over 100 locations in 10 years. Penguin’s filed for bankruptcy in 1991. There were at least four TCBY shops in Thousand Oaks.

The Oaks Mall has been the center of the second wave of froyo activity in Thousand Oaks. Most of the newer froyo shops in town have been at The Oaks. The Oaks is currently home to Menchie’s and a Pinkberry vending machine.

There are currently three places to get froyo in Thousand Oaks: Menchie’s, Pinkberry (vending machine), and Wild Cherry.

Current Froyo Shops (& a Vending Machine)

  • Menchie’s, 168 W Hillcrest Dr. #1, opened a self-serve froyo emporium in 2012 by the movie theater. This location also sells froyo cakes.
  • Pinkberry by iCream, 350 W Hillcrest Dr, is a froyo vending machine by the Sprinkles cupcake ATM at The Oaks. The machine was installed in 2022.
  • Wild Cherry Frozen Yogurt, 1724 N Moorpark Rd, is a self-serve froyo shop that also sells boba drinks. When they first opened in 2010, they charged $0.33/oz. Wild Cherry also has a location in Camarillo and one that closed in Ventura.

Former Froyo Shops

  • Bericup, 382 W Hillcrest Dr., was a self-serve froyo shop in the food court area of The Oaks Mall. The shop opened in 2009 and may have closed in 2014. BeriCup was a froyo chain founded in Garden Grove, CA in 2007.
  • Blizz Frozen Yogurt, 2200 Thousand Oaks Blvd, was a self-serve froyo chain from Southern California. It was open from 2010 – 2011.
  • Golden Spoon, 2000 Avenida de los Arboles, closed in 2013. I’m not sure when it opened but probably before 2010.
  • Golden Spoon, 1404 N Moorpark Rd., probably opened before 2010 and closed in 2013. The owner changed the concept to Tizzy’s Yogurt Café.
  • Go Greek, 350 W Hillcrest Dr., opened in May 2018 at the Oaks Mall and closed less than a year later in March 2019. The authentic Greek yogurteria served fresh Greek yogurt and frozen Greek yogurt. The froyo was self-serve.
  • Krave It, 350 Via Las Brisas, was a self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2015 and closed in 2017
  • Lotus Yogurt Bar, 540 N Moorpark Rd STE 1, was a small self-serve froyo shop in the Village Square Shopping Center that opened in 2009 and closed in 2011. Lotus Yogurt Bar also had locations in Northridge and Hermosa Beach (both now closed).
  • Mali Cuisine, 140 W Hillcrest Dr suite 111, was a Southeast Asian restaurant that also had self-serve froyo. It was open from 2016 – 2021.
  • Penguin’s Frozen Yogurt, 1344 N Moorpark Rd, unknown opening and closing dates.
  • SweetXO, 350 W Hillcrest Dr, opened on the 2nd floor of The Oaks Mall in 2014 and closed in 2015. The shop had self-serve froyo, ice cream, cupcakes, cookies, candy, and gifts.
  • TCBY, 1772 E Avenida De Los Arboles, opened and closed in 2009 or 2010.
  • TCBY, 212 W Hillcrest Dr, Ste M4, probably closed well before 2010
  • TCBY, 3170 Los Feliz Dr, probably closed well before 2010
  • TCBY, 378 W Hillcrest Dr #K010B, was at The Oaks Mall
  • Tizzy Yogurt Café, 1404 N Moorpark Rd, opened in 2013. It was started by an ex-Golden Spoon franchisee and served froyo, shakes, smoothies, Belgian waffles, oatmeal, and coffee. It may have closed in 2014.
  • Yozen Frogurt, 2416 E Thousand Oaks Blvd, opened in 2008 and closed in 2011. The original Yozen Frogurt opened in West Hills in 2007. The Thousand Oaks branch was self-serve.

I found 16 former froyo shops in Thousand Oaks. There were probably other Penguin’s locations but it’s difficult to find out much about them because they closed so long ago. Did I miss any froyo shops in Thousand Oaks? Let me know.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Froyo Scene in Palm Springs

Fro-yo girl here. Palm Springs, California, is known for its golf courses, hot weather, and Mid-Century Modern style. The population is 48,390 and the median age is 56.1 years of age.

TCBY was probably the first froyo shop in Palm Springs but I wasn’t able to find out when it opened or closed. In 2008, Yogurt On Tap and Cactusberry opened. Yogurt On Tap was renamed Jus Chillin in 2012. Today, three froyo shops remain: Jus Chillin, Monster Shakes, and Tutti Frutti. Jus Chillin is 15 years old and Tutti Frutti is twelve years old.

Current froyo shops

  • Jus Chillin has two locations in downtown Palm Springs: 190 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way and 155 S. Palm Canyon Dr. The E. Tahquitz Canyon location was established in 2008 when it was called Yogurt On Tap and was self-serve. The name was changed to Jus Chillin in 2012 when the menu was expanded. The Palm Canyon Dr. seems to have opened in 2022 and doesn’t have froyo. The older shop has self-serve frozen yogurt, gelato, ice cream, shaved ice, smoothies, acai bowls, pitaya bowls, banana splits, and more.
  • Monster Shakes has two locations: 425 S Sunrise Way Suite H-7, Palm Springs, and 68718 E Palm Canyon Dr. #300, Cathedral City. The first location, Palm Springs, opened in 2018, taking over the Yogurt At Its Best space. They’re known for their monster shakes, but also serve Dole Soft Serve, Hawaiian shaved ice, smoothies, frozen yogurt, banana splits, energy bowls, floats, etc.
  • Tutti Frutti, 245 S Palm Canyon Dr, Palm Springs, offers self-serve froyo, juices, and smoothies in downtown Palm Springs. The shop has been locally owned and operated since 2011.

Former froyo shops

  • Cactusberry Frozen Yogurt & Desserts, 1775 E Palm Canyon Dr, Ste 145, Palm Springs, was established in 2008 as a full-service dessert shop serving froyo, gelato, and sorbet. They created their own Cactusberry froyo flavor, prickly pear, and strawberry. The shop closed in 2016.
  • Eddie’s Frozen Yogurt, 300 E Arenas Rd, Palm Springs, was located in downtown Palm Springs. Eddie’s opened in February 2010 and was voted the best froyo in Palm Springs. The froyo was self-serve and they had over 40 toppings. It had a fun, club-like atmosphere. Ownership changed in 2014 and the shop closed in 2018.
  • Golden Spoon, 2465 E Palm Canyon Dr, Ste 1105, Palm Springs, was a part of the counter-serve California-based froyo chain. It may have opened in 2009 and closed in 2011.
  • TCBY/Beriyo was located in downtown Palm Springs. I don’t know when it opened or closed.
  • Yogurt At Its Best, 425 S Sunrise Way Ste H-7, Palm Springs, was a self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2010 in the same shopping center as Albertson’s and closed in 2018. I went once and didn’t like it. Monster Shakes took over the space.

Did I miss any froyo shops in Palm Springs? Let me know.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Froyo Scene in Chino, CA

Source: Yelp,

Fro-yo girl here. Chino, a city in San Bernardino County, has a population of 92,290. It was once known for its dairy farms and is now more industrial/commercial and densely populated with a suburban feel. Fifty-four percent of the population identifies as Hispanic/Latino. It’s interesting that while neighboring Chino Hills is more affluent, Chino Hills only has one froyo shop left, Yogurtland, while Chino has three remaining: It’s Yogurt, Joghurt, and Yogurtland.

The first froyo shop that opened in Chino was Penguin’s Place, which opened in 1987 at Chino Town Square. I’m not sure when it closed but it was open for at least 10 years. Another “old school” froyo shop, Golden Spoon was the next to open. Golden Spoon closed in 2013. Joghurt was the first self-serve froyo shop to open in Chino in 2008.

Froyo Shops Open in Chino

  • It’s Yogurt, 12877 Mountain Ave, is a charming, mom & pop independent self-serve froyo shop that first opened in 2015. I went once and found it to be very clean with friendly service. They've added acai bowls, smoothies, snow ice, and milk tea. They were closed for renovations recently.
  • Joghurt, 4110 Edison Ave Ste 101, is a self-serve local chain with a few locations in the area. Joghurt opened in Chino in March 2008.
  • Yogurtland, 12073 Central Ave, first opened in 2015.

Still Open But No Longer Serves Froyo

Pam’s Doughnuts & Yogurt, 4726 Riverside Dr # C, must have served froyo at some point but I couldn’t determine when. They no longer serve froyo but they have ice cream.

Froyo Shops that Closed

  • Golden Spoon, 4013 Grand Ave D, closed in 2013.
  • Penguin’s Place, 5525 Philadelphia St Ste D, opened in 1987 in Chino Town Square and I'm not sure when it closed (a long time ago).

Calabasas, California Froyo Guide

Twist, Calabasas

Fro-yo girl here. Calabasas, CA in northeast Los Angeles County used to be a pretty good spot for froyo, considering that it’s small (the population is approximately 23,000). The Menchie’s in Calabasas was the first Menchie’s location that I ever visited. It opened in 2009 and was a popular spot for celebrity sightings. COVID-19 likely led to the permanent closure of the last froyo shop in Calabasas, Peachwave. Golden Spoon was the oldest froyo shop in town.

Froyo Shops of Calabasas

  • Golden Spoon Frozen Yogurt, 22259 Mulholland Hwy, may have opened in 2008 as a counter-serve froyo shop (and part of the chain that started in Orange County). The shop changed ownership in 2017 and closed in summer 2019.
  • Menchie’s, 4776 Commons Way Ste D, opened at The Commons in 2009 and closed in February 2020, when the lease expired.
  • Peachwave, 5755 Las Virgenes Blvd., was the first Peachwave location to open in California. Peachwave is a self-serve froyo chain founded in Oklahoma in 2009. The shop closed for good in March 2020.
  • Twist Frozen Yogurt, 26777 Agoura Road, opened in 2011 and closed in late January 2014. It was a good self-serve froyo shop with lots of tart froyo flavors and lots of flavors of mochi. They had more flavored mochi than other froyo shops back when flavored mochi was hard to find.

So, there are no more froyo shops in Calabasas. If you want froyo or something similar in Calabasas today, you have a few options. Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, 4751 Commons Way, Ste A, has wonderful scoopable tart froyo and or Pressed Juicery, 23500 Park Sorrento, offers Freeze, their non-dairy, plant-based soft serve.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Waffie & Yogie, New in Long Beach

Fro-yo girl here. Waffie & Yogie opened in February 2022, taking over the Golden Cups (formerly Golden Spoon) spot. They switched to self-serve froyo in 2017. Waffie & Yogie kept the Golden Spoon soft serve machines and they still have self-serve froyo and toppings.

Waffie & Yogie serves boba milk tea drinks, coffee, slushes, smoothies, waffles, and froyo. I could see that they kept the Golden Spoon soft serve machines.

The froyo and toppings are 55 cents an ounce. They had four froyo flavors during my visit. One of the froyo machines was out of order. The toppings bar is smaller than average but they had fresh fruit, mochi, jellies, coconut, sprinkles, nuts, syrups, cookies, candy, cereal, etc. Toppings were neatly labeled. They’ll give you a free plain waffle with any purchase. The waffle is a thin and freshly made. The waffle went well with the froyo!

The froyo options and toppings were limited but the shop was cute and cheerful. Service was friendly. They also have a rewards program. Parking was easy to find. It’s in an older strip mall. They had some interesting drinks, like egg coffee.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Golden Cups Closes, Waffie & Yogie Opens in Long Beach

Source: Signarama, Long Beach

Fro-yo girl here. I had Golden Cups in Long Beach bookmarked but I didn’t make it there before they closed. They were only open for a few months in 2021. Prior to being renamed, it was Golden Spoon. Golden Spoon Long Beach opened in 2007. The reviews were favorable till 2012 – 2013 when they stopped accepting GS stamp cards, raised prices and possibly changed management.

In 2017, the shop was remodeled and became self-serve. Some customers were upset by the change.

There was a grand opening celebration in January 2020 when it was still called Golden Spoon. They added acai bowls and boba drinks. Ownership probably changed again.

This month, the location was taken over by Waffie & Yogie, which serves boba drinks, smoothies, waffles, and self-serve froyo.

Golden Spoon Whittier Grand Opening This Weekend

Source, Instagram @whittiergoldenspoon

Fro-yo girl here. Last October, I wrote about how Golden Spoon took over the Menchie’s space in Whittier, California. They opened during the summer of 2020 and kept the self-serve format. Golden Spoon painted the walls pastel pink and green and changed the signs. I don’t think they had a grand opening celebration due to COVID-19 – that is, until now.

The Golden Spoon Whittier grand opening starts today and continues through Sunday, August 22. Froyo will be $2 all weekend and the first 5 guests will get $2 foryo for the entire month. It looks like they remodeled and repainted the shop again – looks nicer now with white walls.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Froyo Shops in Temecula, CA

White Lime (source: Yelp)

Fro-yo girl here. I live about two hours from Temecula, so it’s not a city that I pass by that often. A few years ago, I thought I would be passing through so I looked into froyo in Temecula. Recently, I noticed that quite a few froyo shops in Temecula had closed. Here’s what I discovered.

Froyo shops in Temecula that have closed

Golden Spoon, 27636 Ynez Rd, opened in 2009 and was last reviewed in late 2019. The last Facebook update was in late 2018. The space is now occupied by Simon’s Dole Whip & Yogurt.

Golden Spoon, 32389 Temecula Pkwy, opened in 2009 and was last reviewed in late 2019.

Menchie’s, 32195 Temecula Pkwy Suite 102, opened in 2014 at Redhawk Towne Center. The ownership changed in 2017. The owners announced the permanent closure in May 2021. On Instagram, they posted, “It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our community. We have been forced to close due to the financial impact of COVID and lack of support from our landlord Kimco. It was a privilege to serve you all over the past 4 years. Please support local businesses and our friends @menchiesmurrieta.”

White Lime Frozen Yogurt, 30630 Rancho California Rd, was a self-serve froyo shop that may have opened in 2011. I’m not sure when it closed but the space is now occupied by Yogurt Factory.

White Lime Frozen Yogurt, 41493 Margarita Rd # 106B, was a self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2008 and might have closed around 2015?

Yogurtland, 40820 Winchester Rd, Ste 2460, opened in 2013 at the Promenade. It was last reviewed in March 2020. The last Instagram post was in February 2020.

Froyo shops that are still open

Simon’s Dole Whip & Yogurt, 27636 Ynez Rd, replaced Golden Spoon. This is the 2nd location of Simon’s Dole Whip & Yogurt. It opened in June 2021.

Yogurt Factory, 39694 Winchester Rd Suite A, opened in 2009 and is self-serve.

Yogurt Factory, 30630 Rancho California Rd, Temecula, CA 92591 opened in 2020.

Yogurt Island, 32240 Temecula Pkwy, opened in 2008 and is self-serve. It looks like Yogurtland inside.

The four remaining froyo shops are all self-serve.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.
