Chung Hsiang Foods Blueberry Yogurt Sandwich Crackers Review
Fro-yo girl here. I found a new yogurt-flavored sandwich cracker during my recent visit to H Mart in Koreatown LA. Chung Hsiang Foods sandwich crackers are imported from Taiwan. The box was priced at $4.49 and contains six packets of sandwich crackers for a total net weight of 144g. A packet includes two sandwich crackers.
Blueberry yogurt sandwich crackers: The crackers were thin, crispy, and lightly salted. The blueberry yogurt filling in the middle was creamy, tangy, and sweet. I could taste the blueberries. The filling was pretty sweet, but the tanginess helped tone down the sweetness. They’re good but might be an acquired taste (especially if you’re expecting a cookie sandwich).
One serving (2 pieces) is 130 calories, 7g total fat, 14g total carbs, 4g total sugars, and 2g protein.
The sandwich crackers are very Chinese. The thin wheat crackers are crispy, lightly salted, and reminiscent of saltines. The filling is typically sweet and creamy (like the filling of an Oreo cookie). I grew up eating lemon sandwich crackers.
Available flavors: strawberry, lemon, and blueberry yogurt.
3.5 out of 5 stars.
You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Sammy & Jack TopMaker Strawberry Yogurt Flavored Donuts Review
Fro-yo girl here. During a recent trip to the San Gabriel Superstore, I spotted a new yogurt snack to try. Sammy & Jack TopMaker strawberry yogurt-flavored donuts are imported from Taiwan. A 1.41 oz bag was $1.29.
These are puffed corn and rice snacks that look like tiny donuts (there’s a hole in the middle) or a giant Apple Jacks. They taste like something you’d find in a cereal box. They’re light, crunchy, and have a hint of strawberry and milk (but I didn’t detect yogurt). I liked that they weren’t super sweet. If you like Tohato Caramel Corn from Japan, you will like Sammy & Jack TopMaker donuts. Sammy & Jack is also considerably cheaper than Tohato Caramel Corn.
One serving is 220 calories, 13g total fat, 10g total sugar, 0g cholesterol, 24g total carbs, and 2g protein.
I would get these again.
4 out of 5 stars.

Froyo Scene in Downey, CA
Fro-yo girl here. Downey is a city in Southeast Los Angeles County with a current population of 108,816. It’s the home of the original Taco Bell. The city's median household income was $87,400 in 2023, and the per capita income was $37,122.
Currently, there are three places to get froyo: Yogurtland, Mangos, and Pita GR. My favorite of the three is definitely Pita GR. Penguin’s was probably the first froyo shop in town.
Current places to get froyo
- Mangos Frozen Yogurt, 130 Stonewood St., replaced Wild Berry at Stonewood Mall in 2019. It is also a self-serve froyo shop.
- Pita GR, 9905 Paramount Blvd., is a fine-fast casual Greek street food eatery that opened in late September 2018. They make their own frozen Greek yogurt with their own recipe. There's only one flavor, plain. It can be topped with sour cherry syrup, lemon preserve, housemade baklava, or wildflower honey. It’s really good – best place for froyo in Downey.
- Yogurtland, 8250 Firestone Blvd, opened in 2013 at the Downey Gateway.
Closed froyo shops
- Blizz, 10033 Paramount Blvd, Ste E, was an outpost of a LA-based self-serve froyo franchise. The Downey branch opened in 2009 and closed in 2021. In addition to froyo, they had crepes, acai bowls, juice, and more.
- Menchie’s, 12146 Lakewood Blvd, opened in 2011 and closed during 2020, probably due to the pandemic.
- Penguin’s Frozen Yogurt, 9234 Lakewood Blvd, opened a long time ago and closed in 2010.
- U-Swirl, 8855 Apollo Way St. 220, opened in 2016 and closed in 2020. It was an outpost of a self-serve froyo chain.
- Wild Berry, 130 Stonewood St, was a self-serve froyo shop that first opened at Stonewood Mall in 2011. It closed in 2019 and was replaced by another self-serve froyo shop, Mangos.
Prinkipia at the mall didn’t have froyo, though some of their other locations did. Did I miss any froyo shops in Downey? Let me know.

Hong Qi Refreshing Lemon Yogurt Ice Cream Review
Fro-yo girl here. The boba ice cream bar trend is over, and 3D fruit shaped ice cream pops from China have taken over. It started with Propitious Peach and Mango ice cream. Refreshing Lemon Yogurt is a new flavor! I found it at H Mart in Arcadia, CA, for $9.99. Each box comes with three individually packaged 3D lemon yogurt pops/ice bars. Each bar is 3 fl oz. The bars are imported from Jilin City in China and manufactured by Dasenlin Foods Co.
Refreshing Lemon Yogurt Ice Cream: I love that this bar is made with real yogurt. It actually tastes more like yogurt than lemon. The yogurt ice cream is a bit tangy in flavor and firm, dense, and creamy in texture. It doesn’t melt quickly and isn’t as sweet as American ice cream bars. The yellow-green white chocolate coating is very thin and mild in flavor. It’s hard to tell that it’s a lemon-flavored product or does the lemon merely refer to the lemon shape? I do like it better than their other Summer Lemon flavor, because Refreshing Lemon tastes like yogurt. I didn't find it refreshing though. One bar is 170 calories, 10g total fat, 18g total carbs, 10g total sugars, and 2g protein.
You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

History of Sweet Retreat & Treat Ice Cream
Fro-yo girl here. Sweet Retreat used to have multiple locations in the South Bay (Bay Area). I think the one at 846 Blossom Hill Rd. in San Jose is the last one standing. The first one probably opened in the 1990s. Sweet Retreat is known for soft serve mix-in style frozen yogurt.
The customer picks the size and the mix-ins (candies, frozen fruit, nuts, cookies, etc.). The mix-ins are blended in a Swirl Freeze machine that looks like a drill using Treat Ice Cream’s tart vanilla froyo base. The base is tangy, thick, smooth, and creamy. The use of real fruit also makes it taste natural. It’s expensive (a small is $7.90 + $2 for each add-in), but the portions are very generous.
Former Sweet Retreat Locations
- 15545 Union Ave, Los Gatos was old school. I’m not sure when it opened (before 2006, possibly in the 90’s), but it closed in 2017.
- 6061 Cahalan Ave, San Jose, might have opened in the 1990s, closed in 2016 due to a fire
- 97 E 3rd St, Unit C2-1, Morgan Hill, opened in 2019 and closed in 2023
- 744 S Wolfe Rd, Sunnyvale, not sure when it opened or closed, but all the reviews were all written in 2006
Sweet Retreat also offers hard-scoop ice cream from Treat Ice Cream. Treat Ice Cream had a factory in San Jose, CA. Treat Ice Cream was founded in 1951. It was acquired by Marianne’s Ice Cream in 2021. Marianne’s owners plan to continue to produce Treat Ice Cream. The original owner of Marianne’s, Sam Lieberman, learned the ice cream trade from the original owner of Treat Ice Cream, Al Mauseth.
Mix-in style real fruit ice cream is having a moment right now. Sweet Retreat was ahead of its time.

Yoga-urt Adds Dubai Chocolate Strawberry Cup For a Limited Time
I tried the Dubai Chocolate Strawberry Cup, and it was way better than any Dubai chocolate bar that I’ve had. The cup is coated in chocolate and the contents are layered. Yoga-urt’s Pistachio Passion froyo is one of my top three Yoga-urt flavor because you can really taste the pistachios. It beats any pistachio cream. The strawberries are cut to order. I actually opted for the housemade chocolate shell that I’m obsessed with and it was amazing. Even the pistachios tasted better than the pistachios that I buy from the store. It looks like a big cup, but it comes with nine strawberries, so it’s a manageable size for one person. Such a treat!
Find Yoga-urt’s Dubai chocolate strawberry cup in Glendale from June 9 – 15, Santa Monica from June 16 – 22, and Granada Hills from June 23 – 30. It was in Echo Park from June 1 – 8. Don’t miss it if you love Yoga-urt or think that it sounds yummy.

All the Current Froyo Offerings at Bristol Farms
- Kri Kri Greek frozen yogurt tubs and bars: Kri Kri is a Greek dairy company. The products that they’re selling in the US are made in Greece with Greek dairy. They were introduced to the US recently. Link to review. There are four bars/lollies/pops per box. The Greek froyo bars have a fruit coating and a fruit ripple.
- Wild About Mixmi Froyo: individual-sized froyo cups sold in boxes, the size and nutritional content make these popular at schools. The froyo cups have probiotics and prebiotic fiber.
- Enlightened Greek yogurt bars: the low calorie and low sugar bars contain 3 grams of added sugar, 5 grams of protein, prebiotics, and probiotics. Each bar is 80 calories.
- Jeni’s frozen dessert sandwiches: Two varieties are made with froyo, key lime pie and triple berry tart. The cookies and the froyo are superior to your typical frozen dessert sandwiches.
- Sweetkiwi tubs: for yogurt lovers, this is one of the few products that doesn’t mask the flavor of the yogurt. Sweetkiwi whipped Greek froyo is rich in probiotics, fiber, and immune-boosting superfoods and it's low in calories.
- Yasso bars: I first reviewed Yasso’s Greek yogurt bars back in 2012. They’re still around and have introduced many flavors and variations over the years (pints, cookie sandwiches, Greek froyo mochi). I like their chocolate dipped bars, which Bristol Farms currently carries.
Yes, I’ve tried them all. The Jeni’s key lime pie sandwiches are my current favorite but I would also recommend Sweetkiwi’s Smurf Berry tubs and Yasso chocolate dipped bars.

Menchie’s June Featured Flavors
Fro-yo girl here. It’s summer flavor time at Menchie’s. This month’s featured flavors are both fruity and refreshing.
The NEW HI-CHEW Blue Hawaii Tropical Candy froyo flavor was inspired by the Blue Hawaii candy flavor from the fan-favorite HI-CHEW® Fantasy Mix. It’s a combination of juicy pineapple and tangy citrus. The flavor is nonfat and is made with no artificial flavors, no artificial colors, and no high fructose corn syrup.
HI-CHEW Blue Hawaii Tropical Candy froyo: the pale blue color is so pretty. It tasted like pineapple, mainly with a bit of tang. The citrus was difficult to discern. The texture isn’t as creamy as some of the other froyo flavors. Recommended toppings: fruity gummies, fresh fruit
Strawberry Kiwi sorbet is a vegan flavor that’s made with real strawberry. It’s nonfat, gluten-free, and made with no high fructose corn syrup, artificial colors, or artificial colors. I could definitely taste the strawberry, but not the kiwi. It was too sweet for me. Recommended toppings: strawberry gummies, fresh strawberries, and mochi.
Menchie’s featured flavors are available for a limited time, while supplies last.

Thor’s Skyr Opens in Silver Lake, Offering All-Natural Skyr Bowls
Fro-yo girl here. Thor’s Skyr recently opened in the old Milk space near Silver Lake Reservoir in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles. Ironically, what was once the spot for sugary treats is now the spot for low sugar, high protein treats. Thor’s Skyr makes its own skyr in Pennsylvania and emphasizes the probiotics, high protein, and low sugar content of the product, compared to Greek yogurt. It is all natural, lowfat, kosher, lactose-free, gluten-free, and GMO-free.
Thor’s Skyr was available in supermarkets and only recently opened cafes in Phoenix and Los Angeles. The restaurants serve skyr and acai bowls, shakes, and sandwiches, all inspired by the flavors of Iceland. The bowls feature a base (skyr or acai), a middle (blended), and toppings. The middle contains fruit, peanut butter, acai, dates, almond milk, etc. The toppings include granola (not made in-house), fruit, coconut, honey, chia seeds, etc. It’s similar to an acai shop but with fewer toppings. The skyr is plain with no added sugar.
Odin’s Treasure Bowl, without banana: skyr base, middle (skyr, raspberries, strawberries, peanut butter), toppings (granola, strawberries). The bowl takes awhile because they blend the middle to order. I liked it because nothing was too sweet. It was healthy and filling. The skyr tastes like plain yogurt but thicker. It’s sour. The middle reminded me of mix-in style froyo since they blended skyr with berries and ice (or frozen berries) with a bit of peanut butter. The peanut butter flavor wasn’t strong. It wasn’t as sweet as your typical froyo, by far.
Prices are reasonable. You can enjoy their complimentary drip coffee and a high protein waffle with any purchase. They’re going to offer grab & go items soon.
One 170g serving of Thor’s Skyr’s plain is 140 kcals, 3.5g total fat, 5g total carbs, and 21g protein compared to Siggi’s plain which has 170 kcals, 7g total fat, 8g total carbs, and 18g protein. Thor’s Skyr uses reduced fat ultra-filtered milk, whereas Siggi’s uses pasteurized whole milk Both are made with two ingredients, milk and cultures. Thor’s Skyr didn’t seem thicker than Siggi’s.
Thor’s Skyr was founded by three actors, Terry Crews, Hafthor Julius Bjornsson, Dylan Sprouse and an Icelandic entrepreneur, Unnar Beck Danielsson. They wanted to make the best skyr in the US, using the same process used in Iceland.
I noticed that Thor’s Skyr’s website has several recipes for frozen skyr.
Icelandic style skyr has been available in the US for a long time. Siggi’s, the market leader, was founded in 2005. Trader Joe’s has been offering Icelandic style skyr for several years. I’ve tried most of the brands over the years, including Norr, Icelandic Provisions, Painterland Sisters, and others that have been discontinued.

Yogurtland New Summer Tropical Flavors Inspired by Princess Cruises
Fro-yo girl here. Froyo summer or summer froyo has arrived at Yogurtland with a tropical getaway theme.
The flavor voyage begins with two new tropical flavors, inspired by Yogurtland’s promo partner, Princess Cruises.
Spicy Strawberry Watermelon Sorbet is made with real strawberries, watermelon, and a hint of chili. It’s non-fat, gluten-free, and sweet & spicy. This was a pretty light pink sorbet that I found way too sweet. It’s a little spicy, but it hits you after the sweetness. Recommended toppings: strawberries, watermelon, and mochi.
Guava Passion Tart Froyo, made with real passion fruit and guava, is tangy and tropical. This was also a pale pink. I liked the flavor better than Spicy Strawberry Watermelon sorbet because of the tang. The guava seemed stronger. Recommended toppings: Pineapple chamoy gummies, mochi, and pineapple.
Both flavors were light and tropical.
Continuing with the tropical cruise theme, there are new toppings: Ocean Gummies and Pineapple Chamoy Gummies. These are large, chewy gummies. The ocean ones come in different shapes (e.g., shells, sharks, crabs), and each shape is a different flavor. The pineapple chamoy gummies are firmer than the ocean gummies, and they are coated in chamoy. They’re spicy and tangy.
These flavors and toppings are available for a limited time this summer.
I also picked up the complimentary summer sticker sheets, which say Yogurtland x Princess. Each sheet comes with eleven stickers, including seashells, a pineapple, a turtle, a seahorse, a crab, and watermelon – oh wait, the stickers are the same shapes as the new gummies. The stickers also include a Yogurtland cup, spoon, Yogurtland logo, and the Love Boat
Don’t forget to enter the Sweet Getaway Giveaway for a chance to win a cruise for four aboard Princess Cruises. I think you get to choose the destination: the Caribbean, California Coast, or Mexico.

New Salt & Straw Flavor, Wildflower Honey & Lemon Chess Pie Froyo
Wildflower Honey & Lemon Chess Pie is described by S&S as, “Every Southern state puts its own spin on Chess Pie—this is ours. Intensely creamy cultured frozen yogurt is sweetened with wildflower honey from Bee Local, lending a mild, chamomile-like floral note to the tangy, rich flavor. Ricotta, vanilla, honey, and lemon come together as a custard, poured and baked into a shortbread crust from Grand Central Bakery until the center sets with that signature jelly-like wobble. Pops of fresh, citrusy pie punctuate every scoop, finished with a drizzle of tart, housemade lemon curd. Pucker up! This pie’s got zing.” Sounds so good, doesn’t it?
Wildflower Honey & Lemon Chess Pie was super creamy and dense, like a good frozen custard. And it had big chunks of chess pie. The shortbread crust was soft and flavorful. My scoop was either missing the lemon curd drizzle or barely had any? I could barely taste any lemon. The predominant flavors were plain yogurt (yes, it did taste like yogurt), honey, and shortbread. The zing and tartness were missing. There was a mild yogurt tang, and it tasted less sweet than your typical ice cream.
I wish there had been more tang and more lemon. It was a good flavor still, but not as good ad their other froyo flavor, Besharam's Yogurt Lassi with Raspberries. Try it this month while it’s available.
The other The Summer Pie Series flavors are Wild-Foraged Berry Slab Pie, Rhubarb Crumble with Toasted Anise, Gruyère and Tomato Custard Tart, and Coconut Cherry Pie with Almond Crust (Vegan). They all sound good.
