Froyo Scene in Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Fro-yo girl here. Rancho Cucamonga in San Bernardino County, CA, has a population of 176,336, making it the 28th most populous city in the state. The median household income of $108,345 is slightly higher than the state average, and 82% have white collar jobs.

There are two froyo shops left, Menchie’s and Yogurtland. Eleven froyo shops have closed. The first froyo shop in Rancho Cucamonga was likely Yogurt N More, which opened in 1983 and closed in 2016 when the owners retired. Most of the froyo shops have been self-serve. Crepe N Berry was the last froyo shop to open back in 2014. Costco used to offer froyo as well, but they switched to soft serve ice cream.

Current Froyo Shops

  • Menchie’s, 12263 Highland Ave Suite 100, opened at Day Creek Village in late 2012.
  • Yogurtland, 10798 Foothill Blvd #110, opened at Terra Vista Town Center in 2013.

Closed Froyo Shops

  • Berries Frozen Yogurt, 7305 Day Creek Blvd # 102, opened in 2010 and closed in 2019, had mix-in style yogurt made on a granite slab, like 21 Choices.
  • Crepe N Berry, 11460 Kenyon Way, was a crepe and self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2014 and closed in 2017.
  • Golden Spoon, 12709 Foothill Blvd. While I'm not sure when it opened, the earliest reviews were written in 2008. It closed in 2020.
  • KiwiFrost, 11920 Foothill Blvd, Ste 140, was a self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2009 and closed in 2010.
  • Pinkberry, 7873 Monticello Ave #1017, opened at Victoria Gardens in 2007 and closed in 2016.
  • TCBY/Mrs. Fields, 7834 Kew Ave # 1965, was part of Victoria Gardens. I’m not sure when it opened, but it was before 2012. It may have closed in 2017. They had froyo cups, cones, and froyo-based drinks.
  • Tutti Frutti, 12750 Foothill Blvd, was part of the multinational self-serve froyo chain. The shop opened in 2009 and closed in 2017.
  • Twins Frozen Yogurt, 8746 Baseline Rd, was a self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2014 and closed in 2019.
  • Yogoo ala Mode, 7890 Haven Ave, Ste 8, was a self-serve froyo and gelato and boba drinks that opened in 2007 and closed in 2014
  • Yogurt Buzz, 11460 Kenyon Way Ste 104, was a local self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2012 and closed in 2014.
  • Yogurt N More, 8019 Archibald Ave, was the old school mom and pop froyo shop that opened in 1983. It closed in 2016. The original owners retired. In addition to counter-serve froyo, YNM had sandwiches, salads, soups, and baked potatoes.

Did I miss any froyo shops? If so, let me know.

Alec’s Probiotic Ice Cream Culture Cup Review

Fro-yo girl here. Alec’s Ice Cream just introduced the “first & only pre & probiotic ice cream cup.” Made with certified regenerative and organic ingredients, this treat boasts unrefined sugar, raw and live prebiotics and probiotics, and A2 grass-fed dairy. And it avoids artificial sweeteners, GMOs, gluten, sugar alcohols, and seed oils.

Each box of Alec’s Culture Cup contains four individual 3.5 fl oz cups. At Whole Foods in Glendale, CA, the flavors on offer include Madagascar Vanilla, Chocolate Covered Strawberry, and Peanut Butter Cup. The box is priced at $9.49, though it was on sale for $7.59.

I tried two flavors:

Peanut Butter Cup: A luscious peanut butter ice cream beneath a thin, crunchy dark chocolate shell. The chocolate adds a slightly bitter contrast, while the peanut butter flavor is rich, sweet, and creamy.

Madagascar Vanilla Bean: This smooth vanilla ice cream, encased in dark chocolate, is mildly sweet and pleasantly creamy. Each serving contains 140 calories, 9g of total fat, 13g of carbs, 10g of sugar, and 3g of protein.

Available flavors: Mint Chocolate Cookie, Madagascar Vanilla, Peanut Butter Cup, Chocolate Covered Strawberry, Dark Chocolate Honeycomb Crunch

Unlike the airy, overly sweet standard ice cream cups, Alec’s Culture Cup sets itself apart with its dense, high-quality, and better-for-you ice cream. Enhanced with the BB-12 culture (Bifidobacterium), it’s worth noting this isn’t frozen yogurt—it utilizes different cultures from the ones used in yogurt.

Menchie’s Mini Cones & Mini Wafer Sandwiches Review

Fro-yo girl here. Menchie’s just introduced take-home treats. There are two kinds: Vanilla Snow froyo mini cones and Vanilla Snow mini wafer sandwiches. A box comes with six individually wrapped treats. I found both at Menchie’s in Burbank, CA.

The treats are made with RBST-free milk and contain live and active cultures.

Vanilla snow froyo mini cones ($7.49 for a box of 6-1.8 fl oz cones. The cone is 4.5 inches tall. It’s Menchie’s version of the Cornetto, with a sugar cone filled with Vanilla Snow froyo, topped with a chocolate drizzle and graham crumble. The Vanilla Snow was creamy and mild. The best part was probably the cone because it was coated on the inside with dark chocolate, so it stayed crunchy. The crumbs were fine, but I wasn’t sure what they were. At first I thought they were bland peanuts. I like the small size. I would get these again. One cone is 155 calories, 6.5g total fat, 22g total carbs, and 13g total sugars.

Vanilla snow froyo wafer sandwiches ($6.49 for a box of 6-4 fl oz sandwiches. I grew up eating a lot of ice cream sandwiches with vanilla ice cream and chocolate wafer cookies. These sandwiches had a similar soft, thin cookie with holes. The cookie sticks to your fingers and even your teeth. The Vanilla Snow froyo was icier than the Vanilla Snow froyo in the mini cones. The sandwich was decent but not an improvement over the traditional ice cream sandwich. It was a bit smaller at 3.5 inches long x 2 inches high. One serving is 130 calories, 1g total fat, 25g total carbs, and 14g total sugars.

These treats have very classic flavors, so they should appeal to most people. Check your local Menchie’s freezer for these treats. They’re only available for a limited time.

The last time Menchie’s offered take home treats was 2019, when they had frozen fruit bars and froyo cookie sandwiches.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Winner of the 2025 Easter Froyo Shop Spirit Award

Fro-yo girl here. Happy Froyo Easter! I’m ready to pick the froyo shop with the most Easter spirit. I noticed there were fewer posts about Easter from froyo shops this year.

This year’s Easter Froyo Shop Spirit Award winner is…Yogurtland. Yogurtland had multiple posts about Easter, including the topping hunt and the new bunny bunch gummies. The bunny bunch gummies feature gummies shaped like carrots, bunnies, and chicks. Very cute.

Last year’s winner, Tutti Frutti Australia, had Easter shop decorations and a free sprinkle of Easter eggs with any froyo purchase during Easter week.

Previous Easter Froyo Shop Spirit Winners:

  • 2024: Tutti Frutti, Australia
  • 2023: Orange Leaf, US
  • 2022: Tutti Frutti Jamaica
  • 2021: Marcel’s Frozen Yogurt, South Africa
  • 2020: Yo Mama Froyo, Hong Kong
  • 2019: The Yog Bar, UK

This year, Orthodox Easter and regular Easter are both on April 20, so there should be more Easter froyo activity, right?

For more Easter froyo pics, check out the Pinterest board, Easter Froyo Pics. There are over 800 Easter froyo images.

Nightingale Ice Cream Sandwiches Review

Fro-yo girl here. Yes, I’m reviewing an ice cream sandwich. Nightingale Ice Cream created chef-crafted premium (14% butterfat) ice cream sandwiches with Southern roots and European style. There aren’t too many high quality ice cream sandwiches in supermarkets, so these caught my eye when I spotted them at Bristol Farms and Helms Bakery. The sandwiches were $6 each at Helms Bakery in Culver City. Each sandwich is 5.2 oz.

Strawberry shortcake ice cream sandwich: The sandwich features “golden-crusted brown sugar cookie and strawberry ice cream.” I was surprised by the thickness of the cookies. The sandwich was about 2/3rd cookie and 1/3 ice cream, unusual proportions. The cookie is usually much thinner. The sugar cookies were really good. They were soft and crumbly. I could taste the butter and brown sugar. All that cookie overwhelmed the ice cream – which isn’t necessarily a negative. It depends on whether you prefer more ice cream or more cookie. The ice cream seemed fine but didn’t stand out. It had good texture (creamy and not too soft).

One sandwich is 420 calories, 12g total fat, 75g total carbs, 51g total sugars, and 3g protein. That's a lot of sugar.

Verdict, it’s a great, high-quality ice cream sandwich for cookie lovers. The other varieties are Cookie Monster, Banana Pudding, Mocha Brownie, Chocolate Blackout, The Classic, Key Lime Pie, and French Roast. I haven’t seen the Key Lime Pie yet.

I prefer Jeni's Ice Cream sandwiches, especially the Key Lime Pie froyo with graham cracker cookies.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Yogurtland Giant Pistachio Froyo Spoon Event

Fro-yo girl here. Today was the Yogurtland Pistachio Giant Spoon giveaway. It’s Yogurtland’s first giant spoon of 2025, as well as the first new Yogurtland spoon of 2025. The brand new pistachio giant spoon complements the current middle handle exclusive swirl, Chocolate Pistachio.

The spoon was a gift with a minimum $12 purchase. Like the other giant spoons, it’s a foot long. It says Yogurtland on the handle, and is blank on the back.

Once again, I ran into other froyo spoon collectors.

I’m glad that one person can get more than one spoon now. It used to be one spoon per person.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Madhu Mango Lassi White Chocolate Bar Review

Fro-yo girl here. Getting fancy! Echo Park has a new chocolate shop called The Chocolate Dispensary. I found the Madhu Mango Lassi White chocolate bar there for $12. The bar is 2.6 oz. It's made with yogurt!

Madhu Chocolate is a craft chocolatier based in Austin, Texas, that combines Indian flavors with chocolate. The cacao is sourced from Colombia and the bean-to-bar chocolate bars are made by hand in small batches. Other chocolate bars include Masala Chai, Saffron Milk, and Cardamom. They describe Mango Lassi White chocolate bar as follows, “Experience the joy of India’s favorite beverage in our Mango Lassi White Chocolate Bar. We blend Indian Alphonso mangoes with velvety white chocolate, infusing it with aromatic cardamom, golden saffron, and a hint of tangy yogurt. This pioneering creation, our debut white chocolate, represents countless hours of flavor exploration. Each bite offers a harmonious dance of sweetness and spice, transporting you to sun-drenched mango groves and bustling Indian markets.”

Mango Lassi White chocolate bar: Interesting and complex – it’s not straight up mango as you can taste the richness of the cocoa butter and the hint of spices, even some tang from the yogurt. I liked it though I would prefer a real mango lassi.

Ingredients: Organic Cocoa Butter, Organic Cane Sugar, Organic Whole Milk Powder, Freeze Dried Indian Mango, Yogurt Powder (nonfat dry milk, live culture), Organic Butter Powder (organic butter [cream, water, salt], organic nonfat milk, vitamin E and vitamin C), Salt, Madagascar Vanilla, Cardamom, Saffron

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Seoju Mango Lassi Jelly Review

Fro-yo girl here. During a recent visit to Mega Mart, a Korean grocery store in Fremont, CA, I spotted a new yogurt flavored candy. It didn’t say yogurt on the front (in English), but it did say India style and the picture looked like an unblended mango lassi.

Seoju Mango Lassi Jelly comes in a 40g resealable pouch. It was reasonably priced at $1.79. There were other flavors, but those were not yogurt flavored. The candy is imported from South Korea. The ingredients include mango juice and natural lassi (yogurt) flavor.

Mango Lassi Jelly: The jellies smell really good (like mango). The small cube is firm yet not too hard. It’s chewy like a gummy bear. The orange half is mango flavored, and the white half is yogurt flavored. It doesn’t have a strong yogurt flavor, but it is very pleasant, sweet, and chewy. I’m grateful that it doesn’t taste like Yakult. I would buy these again.

One 40g bag of mango jellies is 145 kcals, 0g total fat, 36g total carbs, and 11g total sugar.

Asian Grocer Online describes it as follows, “Seoju Mango Lassi Jelly combines the creamy richness of mango lassi with a fun, chewy jelly texture. Bursting with the sweet and tangy flavour of ripe mangoes, this delightful treat offers a unique, refreshing twist on a classic drink. Perfect for a fun snack or a sweet indulgence, it’s a delicious way to enjoy the flavours of mango lassi anytime!” You can buy the candy online from Asian Grocer Online.

Menchie’s April Featured Flavors & New Froyo Novelties

Fro-yo girl here. Menchie's has two featured flavors this month, Chocolate Cake Batter froyo and Dole Pomegranate soft serve.

Chocolate Cake Batter froyo is made with Hershey’s chocolate. It’s made with no artificial flavors, no artificial colors, and no high fructose corn syrup. First introduced in June 2022, it’s back by popular demand. I tried a bit and it is richer and has a cake mix taste. I don’t personally like cake batter flavors. Recommended toppings: Chocolate shell, Hershey’s kisses, whipped cream.

Dole Pomegranate soft serve is new to Menchie’s. Menchie’s has had a few Dole flavors in the past, but this is the first time they’ve offered Dole pomegranate. The color was intense and the flavor was tangy but more sweet than tangy. It tasted too candy-like. Dole Pomegranate is lowfat, gluten free, dairy free, and contains no high fructose corn syrup. Recommended toppings: fresh berries, mochi

I also spotted a sign for Menchie’s take home treats: Vanilla Snow froyo mini wafer sandwiches and Vanilla Snow froyo mini cones. The sign was up, but they didn’t have the treats in stock.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Spring Arrives at Yogurtland: Featured Flavors, Giant Spoon Alert, New Stickers, New Toppings, Earth Day Special

Fro-yo girl here. It’s spring at Yogurtland, and there’s an abundance of froyo news. First, Peach Tart is back for the season. It’s described as “a perfect balance of sweet and tangy, this flavor blends the juicy flavor of peaches with a delightful tartness.” I haven’t had peach tart froyo at Yogurtland for a long time. I remember liking it. However, it was just okay – either my tastes changed, the flavor changed, or both. It is made with real peaches, but it reminded me of the heavy syrup that you might find in a can of peaches. The flavor is tangy, but less so than Plain Tart.

And that brings me to two seasonal middle handle exclusives. The first is Plain Tart and Peach Tart (aka Plain Peach Swirl). The two flavors are complementary as both are tangy. The second is Chocolate Pistachio Swirl.

There are two new seasonal toppings: Bunny Bunch Gummies and Peach Burst Gummies. I like the Peach Burst Gummies better. They’re big, firm, and chewy. They’re also shiny and look like 4D peaches. I also like the peach flavor. The Bunny Bunch gummies come in a variety of shapes (bunnies and carrots). I’m not sure if they all taste the same. I tried the carrot, which was fruity, firm, and chewy.

The new Pistachio Giant Spoon will be available on April 14, while supplies last. The Pistachio Giant Spoon is a complimentary gift for purchases of $12 or more in-store. There is a limit of four spoons per transaction (the offer excludes catering, third-party delivery, merchandise, and online orders).

Also, look for the new spring peach-themed sticker sheets. They’re complimentary. Each sheet has eleven stickers, including the Yogurtland spoon, Yogurtland cup, and more.

For Earth Day, there’s an online exclusive deal: Buy One Dirt Cup, Get One Free deal. The Dirt Cup is made with a base of chocolate frozen yogurt, topped with cookies and cream crumble and sour gummy worms. Orders can be placed online at yogurtland.com or through the Yogurtland mobile app using the code EARTHDAY at checkout, available exclusively on April 22.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Mogu Mogu Lychee Yogurt Flavored Ice Cream Ice Bar Review

Fro-yo girl here. I found a new froyo popsicle during a recent trip to H Mart in Arcadia, CA. It’s called Mogu Mogu (Gotta Chew) lychee yogurt ice cream. The bar was $1.79, sold as a single, and is imported from Korea. I didn’t see the bars sold as a box.

Mogu Mogu, which literally means Gotta Chew, is a line of fruit flavored drinks with nata de coco. The nata de coco is like a firm, chewy coconut jelly. Mogu Mogu drinks have become popular on Tik Tok and Instagram. People like to freeze Mogu Mogu to enjoy it as a slushie. Yogurt is one of the drink flavors.

Lychee yogurt ice bar: The bar was a pretty pink color. The texture was firm and hard. I liked the bar at first. The lychee flavor was pleasant and not super strong. It was slightly tangy. But the bar had a soft white filling that was sweeter and had bits of nata de coco. I didn’t like the white filling. It did taste like lychee but in an artificial, candy-like way.

The lychee yogurt flavored ice bar is 2.7 fl oz. One bar is 140 calories, 3.5g total fat, 23g total sugars, and 26.9g total carbs. The main ingredients are water, syrup mix, and yogurt.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

3 out of 5 stars.
