YQ by Yoplait Review

Fro-yo girl here. Yoplait introduced YQ by Yoplait this past summer. The innovative new yogurt is made with ultra-filtered milk and it’s low sugar, protein-rich, gluten free, and 99% lactose free. It’s sweetened with cane sugar. The ingredients list is short and everything is natural.

YQ by Yoplait is available in 8 flavors: Plain, Coconut, Peach, Mango, Lime, Strawberry, Blueberry and Vanilla. YQ Plain has 1 gram of sugar per serving and 17 grams of protein, while the flavored varieties have 9 grams of sugar and 15 grams of protein per serving. One serving is 5.3 oz.

The packaging is quite elegant, with a graceful curved shape and pastel colors. It’s clean looking.

While I’ve seen ultra filtered milk before, I’ve never had it. Ultra-filtered milk is filtered to concentrate the protein and calcium while reducing the amount of sugar and lactose. Yoplait combined the ultra-filtered milk with active cultures to create YQ.

Blueberry: It’s a blended yogurt and it’s supposed to be thick, creamy, and smooth but not as sweet. The yogurt looked thick but not as smooth as Greek yogurt. Stirring it made it look smoother. It smelled like sweet blueberries. The flavor was unusual – sweet but of course not very sweet and bland, though I could taste the blueberries. There was a little tang from the blueberries but not from the yogurt. While it’s supposed to be simple, it did taste processed to me. It’s like the removed the yogurt flavor. On the other hand, it was creamy and probably would be perfectly fine in smoothies or as an ingredient in recipes. It’s like yogurt for people who don’t love yogurt. Hmm. I love the flavor and tang of yogurt, so YQ isn’t for me, but I think it’s good for people who are lactose intolerant.

Strawberry: This tasted a bit better because of the stronger strawberry flavor. It doesn't taste bad but they removed the yogurt flavor.

One serving has 130 calories and 2.5g fat. The retail price is $1.49.

Ingredients (Blueberry YQ): Pasteurized grade A ultra-filtered milk, blueberries, cane sugar, pectin, black carrot juice, natural flavor, yogurt cultures.

I have to wonder who these people are that Yoplait talked to. They want to eat yogurt but they don't like the taste of yogurt. Weird.

3 out of 5 stars.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.
