The Year of Acai

Fro-yo girl here. I darted into Whole Foods the other day and received a free serving of a new frozen confection, Jolly Llama sorbet. The sorbet comes in a single serving size ($1.79 each at Whole Foods). Squeeze and eat for a quick, fat free, and nutritious fruity treat. While the blueberry sorbet was nice, I couldn’t help but think that it would taste better if it were fro-yo. The size is just right and it’s really convenient to eat.

Jolly Llama comes in four flavors:
* Mango
* Blueberry
* Acai berry
* Strawberry

I wish there were more supermarket fro-yo options (something better than Dreyer's and Trader Joe's tart fro-yo). If it works for sorbet, why not fro-yo?

The acai berry flavor seems to be the superfruit flavor of 2009. Last year was the year for pomegranate fro-yo (everyone seems to have pomegranate fro-yo now). Next year it might be baobab? Acai blueberry fro-yo can be found at select Tuttimelon locations (you can see my acai blueberry Tuttimelon parfait), select Blush Organic Frozen Yogurt locations, and Yogen Fruz.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

I'm going to try the acai blueberry flavor at Blush today along with their guava flavor. My mission is to try all the flavors that they have. So far, I have tried Original, Blush, Mango and Pineapple.

We share the same mission. I can't wait to try the PUMPKIN PIE at Blush. LOOOOOOVE their blueberry acai fro-yo. There's also green tea, strawberry kiwi, chocolate and now pina colada (in Dublin)!

I went there today and they didn't have Guava flavor so I had the acai blueberry and strawberry kiwi. I found out from the owner Frank that they will have the pimpkin pie flavor at Blush SF in November. I can't wait to try it also.

Do you know if the new Tuttimelon self-serve will have passion fruit flavor. Apparently, they have it in the Chinatown location.

I'm not sure which flavors the Tuttimelon SF self-serve will have initially - but I would imagine you'd see all their flavors at some point, including passionfruit tart. Can't wait to see what it will be like.

Do you know often Nubi SF changes their flavor?

Question for you froyo girl: For the Blush stamp card, can you redeem any flavor or does it actually have to be the original flavor?

Dear Anonymous,

The Blush frequent buyer card says you'll receive a small original fro-yo w/ 2 toppings.

Best,

Fro-yo girl

Yeah, blush is really about it. they will let you get the flavored yogurts with the stamp card with no extra charge.

In think blush was the first to have the acai flavor and then others followed. But I'm sure you would know better froyo girl.

Dear Anonymous,

I think you are right. I can't think of another place that had acai fro-yo in the Bay Area before Blush. They're truly innovators!
