Nick the Greek Opens in North Hollywood

Fro-yo girl here. Nick the Greek opened this week in North Hollywood. During the grand opening on Friday, August 29, guests received a free lunch and drink from 11 AM – 2:30 PM. Most of the menu was available but not the desserts (not the frozen yogurt). They do offer Greek frozen yogurt though. You can get it plain for $5.95 or add baklava and honey or a chocolate shell.

I mentioned that the frozen yogurt portion size was too large to someone from NTG corporate, and he said they’re working on introducing a smaller size. I hope that’s true!

Each location seems to have the same menu: souvlaki and gyros (beef/lamb, pork belly, chicken, falafel and a plant-based option called beef-teki) served as a sandwich plate or bowl. They also have salads, sides (e.g., fries, hummus), and desserts. Prices are reasonable.

This is a smaller location in a strip mall with strip mall parking. It's also the 90th Nick the Greek branch.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Lyfen Original Squeezable Yogurt Drink Review

Fro-yo girl here. I found Lyfen squeezable yogurt drinks at GW Supermarket in Temple City, CA. One 100g pouch was $1.49. The yogurt drinks are shelf-stable and do not need refrigeration. To drink, twist off the cap and squeeze the pouch. I only saw one flavor there, original, but it also comes in strawberry. The product is imported from China.

Original yogurt drink: The liquid is slightly thicker than milk. It’s made with water, milk powder, and apple juice concentrate. It’s sweet, tangy, and does taste like yogurt. But, it also tastes like something else, probably the apple juice. It’s not distinctive. The drink is good but on the sweeter side.

One pouch is 80 calories, 2g total fat, 14g total carbs, 5g total sugars, 2g protein.

3.5 out of 5 stars.

White Rabbit Yogurt Flavor Candy Review

Fro-yo girl here. I grew up eating White Rabbit candy and was excited to find a yogurt flavor at 168 Market in Alhambra. One 180g bag was $5.49. The candies are individually wrapped. They’re imported from China.

White Rabbit Yogurt flavor: Like all White Rabbit candy, the cylindrical candy is firm and chewy. Each piece is wrapped in a thin rice paper sheet that melts in your mouth. The candy is the same size as the regular flavor. It’s white in color. The candy was firmer and harder than I remembered. It’s a bit too hard, but it is very chewy. Because it’s so hard, it lasts for longer than a softer candy. The yogurt flavor is sweet and slightly tangy. It also has a milky flavor. The yogurt flavor reminds me of Yakult. I don’t love it and prefer the regular flavor.

One serving is six pieces, 120 calories, 2g total fat, 25g total carbs, 16g total sugars, and 1g protein.

3.5 out of 5 stars.

Yogurtland A Berry Laufey Day Event on August 24 Recap & New Hours at Yogurtland Eagle Rock

Fro-yo girl here. Happy ‘A Very Laufey Day’ to Laufey fans. Did you try the exclusive Yogurtland swirl, A Berry Laufey Day? It’s a swirl of chocolate and strawberry (Laufberry) froyo.

I went to Yogurtland for the giant Laufey blue spoon giveaway. Yogurtland is giving away the giant blue spoons with a minimum $15 in-store purchase today, August 24, while supplies last. There’s a maximum of two spoons per transaction.

The spoon is about a foot long and says Yogurtland on the handle. I also picked up some more Yogurtland x Laufey sticker sheets.

A Berry Laufey Day swirl is available till the end of August. Laufey’s new album, A Matter of Time, is out now.

I was surprised to learn that Yogurtland Eagle Rock has new hours. They open at 10 AM now and close at 1 AM. That’s two more hours to get froyo.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

All the Current Froyo Offerings at Whole Foods Pasadena

Fro-yo girl here. After seeing so many froyo products for sale at the Bristol Farms in South Pasadena, I felt inspired to see what the froyo selection was at the other supermarkets in town.

The Whole Foods in Pasadena on Arroyo is one of their larger, nicer locations. Here’s a look at what froyo products they’re currently selling:

  • 365 by Whole Foods Market offers two flavors of organic Greek yogurt dessert bars: mango and blueberry. Each box contains four bars.
  • Alden’s Organic provides one flavor of yogurt bars: strawberry. Each box includes four bars.
  • Jeni’s frozen dessert sandwiches come in two varieties made with froyo: key lime pie and triple berry tart. The cookies and froyo are superior to typical frozen dessert sandwiches.
  • Yasso bars: Whole Foods features a wide variety of Yasso’s Greek frozen yogurt bars. Each box has four bars.

Bristol Farms has more froyo products than Whole Foods, but Whole Foods has its own brand of froyo bars.

RanLi Old Street Fried Bread Yogurt Sandwich Review

Fro-yo girl here. I found Old Street Fried Bread at Yotea in Rosemead, CA for $1.85. The product is called a yogurt sandwich and has a picture of a cup of yogurt on the packaging. It comes in different flavors, but Yotea only had the Yogurt Sandwich flavor. I don’t know much about Old Street Fried Bread, but it’s a popular product that is imported from China. I’m guessing that it was inspired by a street food. It’s not light and crispy like a youtiao.

The treat looks like a twisted donut. The texture was very soft and fluffy. It didn’t taste too fried or heavy. It was lightly sweetened (an American donut is much sweeter). The yogurt cream was injected into the donut. There wasn’t much of it. It was a bit sweeter than the donut. The yogurt flavor wasn’t strong. The exterior was covered in bread crumbs.

The donut wasn't as dry as some packaged bakery products from China, so it's better than average.

One serving is 400 calories, total fat 24g, total carbs 41g, total sugars 12g, and protein 5g. * Yotea, 8449 Garvey Ave Unit 104, Rosemead, CA 91770

Froyo Scene in Fresno, CA

Fro-yo girl here. Fresno, the county seat of Fresno County in the Central Valley region in California. With a population of 545,716, Fresno is the fifth most-populous city in California. Over 50% of the population is Hispanic. Agricultural production is the main industry. The median household income in Fresno, CA is $66,804, with 20% of the population living below the poverty line.

I found six froyo shops (three Menchie’s, two Yogurtland branches, the new Sunnyside Swirlz) and one Greek fast casual restaurant that serve froyo in Fresno. I found fourteen closed froyo shops. Many of them did not last longer than three years. TCBY was probably the oldest froyo shop in town. The heyday for froyo was 2010 when Tuttimelon, Yogurtland, Tutti Frutti, and Yogurlato opened.

Current Froyo Shops

  • Menchie’s, 6611 N Riverside Dr Ste 101, opened in 2015
  • Menchie’s, 3090 W Shaw Ave Ste 102, opened in 2014 or 2015
  • Menchie’s, 8464 N Friant Rd Ste 104, opened in 2017
  • Nick the Greek, 7675 N Blackstone Ave #115, opened at the Villaggio Shopping Center in 2022. The fast casual Greek chain offers Greek frozen yogurt.
  • Sunnyside Swirlz, 6127 E Kings Canyon Rd, is a self-serve shop that opened in June 2025
  • Yogurtland, 6467 N Riverside Dr Ste 101, opened in 2022
  • Yogurtland, 170 N Blackstone Ave Terrado Plaza, opened in 2010

Former Froyo Shops

  • The Big Swirl, 4978 N Cedar Ave, took over the Tutti Frutti spot in 2011. The Big Swirl owners had several shops in the area. The Fresno shop also served grilled cheese sandwiches. It’s unclear when the shop closed but it doesn’t seem to have been open for long.
  • Cefiore, 220 E Paseo Del Centro, opened in 2008 and closed in 2011. Counter-serve, similar to Pinkberry.
  • Chosen Yogurt, 8967 N Chestnut Ave, opened in 2013 and closed in 2021. In addition to self-serve froyo, they offered Doc Burnstein’s ice cream. It was sold in 2019 and reopened for maybe a year or two.
  • Frozen Yogurt Castle, 6127 E Kings Canyon Rd, was a self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2014 and closed in 2017.
  • Mickey’s Yogurt, 9423 N Fort Washington Rd. was a self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2015 and closed in 2017
  • Peachy King, 5247 E Kings Canyon Rd Ste 101, was a self-serve froyo shop that also offered fruit arrangements. The assets were purchased by Sunnyside Swirlz. Peachy King opened in 2016 and closed in 2024.
  • TCBY, 7064 N Cedar Ave, not sure when it opened, maybe the 90’s? It may have closed in 2012.
  • Tutti Frutti, 4978 N Cedar Ave, opened in 2009 and closed in 2011.
  • Tutti Frutti, 7785 N Palm Ave Ste 109, opened in 2010 and closed in 2016.
  • Tuttimelon, 639 E Shaw Ave #155, opened at Fashion Fair Mall in late 2010, offering self-serve froyo and counter-serve gelato. The branch closed in 2013. Tuttimelon was a froyo chain that started in San Francisco.
  • Yoberries, 2088 E Copper Ave, offered ice cream and self-serve froyo in 2024. It was only open for a few months.
  • Yodigity Yogurt, 2950 E Nees Ave Ste 105, was a self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2007 and closed in 2015.
  • Yogi Berry, 8951 N Cedar Ave, opened in 2019 and closed in 2020. The froyo and acai bowls were self-serve.
  • Yogurlato, 1173 E Champlain Dr, seems to have opened in 2010.
  • Yogurtland, 3060 E Campus Pointe Dr, opened in 2016 and closed in 2020

Still Open but Stopped Selling Froyo

  • Costco, 4500 W Shaw Ave
  • Costco, 7100 N Abby St

Did I miss any froyo in Fresno? If so, let me know.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Yogurtland A Berry Laufey Day Event on August 24

Fro-yo girl here. Giant spoon collectors and Laufey fans, save the date, August 24, for the A Very Laufey Day event. The event celebrates the release of Laufey’s new album, A Matter of Time.

Yogurtland is introducing a middle handle exclusive, A Berry Laufey Day Swirl - a swirl of chocolate and strawberry froyo. It’s available for a limited time this August, while supplies last at participating locations.

And on August 24, Yogurtland will be giving away free giant blue Yogurtland spoons (with a minimum $15 in-store purchase). Maximum of two spoons per transaction ($15 spent = 1 Free Giant Spoon. $30 spent = 2 Free Giant Spoons).

I also spotted Yogurtland x Laufey sticker sheets, so look for those. Some locations are already handing out the stickers.

Last year, Yogurtland celebrated A Very Laufey Day on September 8 with an exclusive flavor, Laufberry (strawberry froyo) and Laufey sticker sheets. There was also a social media contest. The prizes included signed vinyl records and signed giant Yogurtland spoons.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

New White Mocha Froyo at Pinkberry

Fro-yo girl here. Time for Pinkberry’s fall flavor…it’s White Mocha froyo. Pinkberry recommends topping it with mocha sauce, chocolate wafer cookies, and whipped cream.

I tried a sample, and it was sweet with a smooth coffee flavor. The coffee flavor wasn’t bitter. The flavor was light and on the icier side. It was too sweet for me, but I’m sure that it would be yummy with whipped cream, dark chocolate crisps, and the Belgian butter waffle cookie. I’ve gotten used to those yummy tart Pinkberry flavors!

FYI, a white mocha is usually made with espresso, steamed milk, and white chocolate sauce.

White Mocha froyo is available for a limited time (until October 30) at participating locations, while supplies last.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Hema Spicy Chicken Leg Chili Flavored Ice Cream Review

Fro-yo girl here. I saw the cutest fried chicken leg-shaped ice cream, imported from China, at Shiny Snacks. The chili flavored ice cream is shaped like a fried chicken leg. It’s imported from China. One bar is 65g and sells for $3.50.

Spicy Chicken Leg Chili Flavored Ice Cream: While the ice cream looks like it fried chicken drumstick, it’s not chicken flavored. The crumbs look like fried chicken skin, but taste like crispy corn flakes. The ice cream is orange in color and tastes like plain milk ice cream with a hint of chili. The chili flavor hits you after the sweet milk flavor. It’s dense, creamy, and sweet, but not overly sweet. I was expecting a stronger chili flavor. The treat is tasty and small enough to be a perfect snack or light dessert.

One serving is 170 calories, 9g total fat, 0g cholesterol, 21g total carbohydrates, 12g total sugars, and 6g protein.

Shiny Snacks is a new Chinese snack warehouse in Rosemead. The 3D food shaped ice cream trend continues.

Cinnabon Swirl to Open in Pasadena

Fro-yo girl here. Okay, this isn’t froyo news, but I just saw the sign for Cinnabon Swirl, Soft Serve by Carvel, across from Pasadena City College. Cinnabon Swirl is a brand new concept from Cinnabon and Carvel. It features exclusive items like the Bonini, a cinnamon roll sandwich with soft serve, and the Cinnabon Swirl Sundae, a cinnamon roll topped with soft serve.

The first location opened this May in Peoria, Arizona. The Pasadena location will be the fourth and the first in California.

Founded in 1934, Carvel is known for its soft serve ice cream. It also offers hard scoop ice cream, ice cream cakes, novelty ice cream bars, and ice cream sandwiches. While Carvel doesn’t offer froyo, it did offer froyo (called Lo-Yo) back in the 1970s.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Yogurtland Eagle Rock Now Offers Froyo & Ice Cream Sandwiches, Other Developments

Fro-yo girl here. Yogurtland Eagle Rock just added something new to the grab & go freezer, froyo and ice cream sandwiches. These look like they were made by the store employees. They used large OREO cookie wafers and sandwiched froyo and soft serve ice cream in the middle. The sandwiches are just $2.50 each. I saw three flavors: cookies & cream froyo, vanilla ice cream, and chocolate ice cream. The sandwiches are individually wrapped in clear plastic bags.

I also noticed that this and other Yogurtland locations have run out of Yogurtland spoons and are offering generic spoons instead. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen that happen.

Also, Yogurtland locations are not selling physical gift cards because they’re switching to another gift card system. You can still buy Yogurtland egift cards though.

Swrlies Opens Real Fruit Ice Cream & Froyo Trailer

Fro-yo girl here. SWRLIES recently launched a fancier trailer. They started with a cart back in 2019. The new froyo/ice cream trailer parks in Highland Park on Fridays and Saturdays and in Toluca Lake on Thursdays and Sundays.

I do find it troubling that they parked a few steps from Magpies in Highland Park. But I was also curious to see how the froyo was since I haven’t had it since 2019.

Choose your base (vanilla ice cream, tart froyo made in-house, or vegan), choose your mix in (strawberry, peach, mango, pineapple), choose your toppings (Oreos, sprinkles, granola, etc.), and choose a drizzle. They also have some signature creations. Your base and mix-in are mixed together using a drill. The fruit is organic.

Strawberry froyo with granola ($8): This was better than what I had in 2019. It was creamier and tarter than I remembered. And it tasted fresher and less processed than your average yogurt. It was thick and not as smooth as your typical yogurt. The granola was fine but nothing special.

I wish there were more fruit and toppings options. There were more options in 2019, including two sizes and a wider variety of fruit. The waffle cones are not made in-house.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Menchie’s New Featured Flavors, Susan G. Komen Fundraiser

Fro-yo girl here. Menchie’s is partnering with Susan G. Komen again, to raise money for breast cancer research and programs. The goal is to raise $200,000 or more in August. Guests who make a donation will receive a sign that says “I donated to Susan G. Komen at Menchie’s.” You can personalize the sign and display it on the wall at Menchie’s. I made a donation and also received a sticker saying that I had donated.

The two featured flavors for this month are S’mores froyo and Hawaiian POG sorbet. S’mores is a returning flavor. Hawaiian POG sorbet is new. POG stands for passionfruit, orange, and guava.

Hawaiian POG sorbet: The orange flavor was the strongest of the three fruit flavors. There was a tropical twist to the flavor with the addition of passionfruit and guava. It was rather sweet with no real tang. I wouldn’t get it again. Hawaiian POG sorbet is dairy-free and contains no artificial colors, no artificial flavors, and no high fructose corn syrup.

Featured flavors are available for a limited time, while supplies last. Menchie's website looks different. You still can't easily search the flavors online. And it's harder to see the full list of stores.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Yoga-urt Granada Hills Celebrates First Anniversary

Fro-yo girl here. I’m back from the Yoga-urt Granada Hills first anniversary celebration today, August 3, with the details.

The brand new flavor is…Pineapple Paradise. It’s plant-based, all-natural, and made with Yoga-urt’s proprietary almond and cashew milk base. The nut milk mellows the pineapple flavor so that it’s not as sweet as you’d expect. The texture was super thick and creamy, creamier than Dole Whip and other pineapple soft serve.

The anniversary sundae is the Pina Colada Sundae, featuring a swirl of Pineapple Paradise and Coconut Macaroon, coconut shavings, and homemade strawberry sauce.

You could also enter a raffle to win a $100 Yoga-urt Granada Hills gift card.

And 10% of sales on August 3 will go to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Yoga-urt soft serve is vegan, kosher, soy free, gluten-free, all-natural, probiotic, hand-crafted, small batch, and made on site. The gluten-free cones and sauces are also made in-house with proprietary recipes. For toppings, choose from fresh fruit, mochi, sprinkles, nuts, granola, coconut, mulberries, cacao nibs, and housemade sauces.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.
