Fro-yo girl here. The recent surge of froyo shop openings in Miami warranted both a froyo trip and a look at Miami’s froyo scene and history. I’ll have a separate post focused on Miami Beach. The city of Miami has a population of 487,014, less than I expected, but the Miami Metro area has over 6.4 million residents. I focused on shops in the City of Miami.
I found 15 current places to get froyo in the city of Miami, including four self-serve shops that opened in 2011 – 2012. Eight of the 15 opened in 2015 or later, and four are counter-serve. The trendiest shops right now are actually counter-serve and Greek/European in feel, with healthier toppings. Reduced sugar or sugar-free froyo and toppings were a noticeable trend.
I found 37 closed froyo shops and 1 closed froyo truck, including many large froyo franchises. The number of closures are noted:
Did I miss any froyo shops in Miami? Let me know. I heard that Nude Miami, the organic grocery store in Brickell, will offer froyo, but it hasn't opened yet.
You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.
