Fro-yo girl here. Good Fortune sells HEYTEA popsicles individually. Each popsicle comes in a nice-looking box. The popsicle flavors are grape & cheese, cheese & peach, grapefruit & mango, and milk tea.The popsicles seem to be inspired by HEYTEA’s drinks. The logo even features someone drinking something from a cup. HEYTEA is a milk tea shop founded in Guangdong, China in 2012. The founder claims to have created cheese tea. The text on the packaging was in Chinese except for the words Popsicle and HEYTEA. The translated text on the box said, “HiTea Milk Tea Boba Popsicle” and “bite and eat.” The illustration shows the different flavors and textures in the popsicle. The exterior is Ceylon black tea ice, the interior is Ceylon tea ice cream with brown sugar boba, and the bottom is chi chi ice cream. I don’t know what chi chi ice cream is but I think it’s a cheese foam ice cream.Milk tea popsicle: It’s an interesting popsicle. The brown exterior was firm and icy. It tasted like milk tea and was pleasant though quite icy. The interior was soft and creamy tea-flavored ice cream with soft, sweet, and chewy brown sugar boba. The boba had great texture. The very bottom was a creamy, sweet, rich, cheesy ice cream that I didn’t like but wasn’t so bad when mixed with the milk tea flavor. I wasn’t that fond of the icy shell either, though I liked the milk tea flavor.One popsicle is $2.99. Fro-yo girl here. I’ve been eyeing the GuangMing White Rabbit Ice Cream Bars for the last few years, but I didn’t want to buy an entire box of five bars. Fortunately, Good Fortune Supermarket in Alhambra sells them individually. White Rabbit bars are $2.99 each.
The bars are imported and a product of the Shanghai Yimin Food Factory in Shanghai, China. They’re made with milk and butter.
The packaging is cute because it looks like a giant White Rabbit candy. The ice cream bar is cylindrical, and it looks like a giant White Rabbit candy! It also smells and tastes like White Rabbit candy. If you’ve had White Rabbit candy, you would recognize the taste immediately. The bar was firm and didn’t melt quickly. I was amazed that it was also slightly chewy, like the candy. It tastes milky and sweet. Wow, I didn’t know an ice cream bar could be so similar to White Rabbit candy.
If you like White Rabbit candy, you must try these bars.

Fro-yo girl here. I recently visited Harucake, a Korean cake bakery in LA’s Koreatown, and to my surprise, they had a few types of yogurt cake. There were two types of yogurt cake: summer peach (vanilla genoise, homemade peach compote, lemon yogurt cream) and green grape (vanilla genoise, lemon yogurt cream, fresh green grape).
Green grape yogurt cake ($14/slice): The vanilla genoise cake was light, fluffy, and tender. There were three layers of cake and two layers of milk cream. The entire cake is also covered in milk cream. The grapes were sweet and fresh. The lemon yogurt is subtle and actually tastes like yogurt. It was a big slice of cake but because it was light and not too sweet, it was easy to finish. The flavors are subtle and the cake delicate.
Harucake makes the cutest minimalist, low sugar (Asian sweet), organic milk cream cakes. The cake flavors (e.g., chocolate earl grey, strawberry milk cream, mugwort injeolmi) rotate but I believe all the cakes feature genoise (sponge cake) and layers of milk cream.
Is Harucake’s yogurt cake better than Yu Cake’s blueberry yogurt cake? Well, they’re different. Harucake’s cake is softer. Yu Cake gives you more yogurt cream and has more going on. Both are lower in sugar than your typical cake. I’d have a hard time choosing between Harucake and Yu Cake.

Fro-yo girl here. The city of Riverside in Riverside County, CA, has a population of 320,764 (2022) and is about 50 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles. The first froyo shop in Riverside was probably a TCBY or Golden Spoon, but I’m not sure which. Golden Spoon survived until 2022. The first self-serve froyo shop was Swirl which opened in March 2008 and was later renamed Mumbles. BerrySweet was also an early self-serve froyo shop; it opened in April 2008. Reviewers claimed that Yogurtland put both out of business by opening nearby and charging less per ounce.
Today, there are six froyo shops in Riverside and they’re all self-serve. Yogurtland has three shops, including one in the old Golden Spoon space. The most popular spots for froyo are by UC Riverside or at the Mall, Galleria at Tyler.

- BerrySweet, 3740 Iowa Ave Ste 108, was a self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2008 and closed in 2011.
- Chillz Frozen Yogurt, Mission Grove Plaza, 231 E Alessandro, Ste F, was a self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2017 and closed in 2019.
- CJ’s Frozen Yogurt, 10333 Magnolia Ave, was a froyo shop. I couldn’t find any reviews, so I assume that it was open a long time ago.
- Golden Spoon, 19348 Van Buren Boulevard, was a counter-serve froyo shop that closed in 2022. A new owner took over in 2018 and then again in 2021. I’m not sure when it first opened but it had an older GS spoon look before being remodeled, and the first reviewer in 2009 said that she had been going there for years.
- Golden Spoon, 1310 Galleria at Tyler, had a shop at the Galleria at Tyler. I couldn’t find any reviews, so it probably closed a long time ago.
- Golden Swirl, 4250 Van Buren Blvd. I couldn’t find any reviews, so it probably closed a long time ago. It was counter-serve and similar to Golden Spoon.
- Mickey’s Yogurt, 5225 Canyon Crest Dr STE 90, took over the SweetFrog space at Canyon Crest Towne Centre. The self-serve shop opened in 2020 and closed in February 2022. It is now the home of Break the Ice, a taiyaki ice cream shop.
- Spoonful Yogurt Café, 4270 Riverwalk Pkwy STE 120, was a self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2014 and closed in 2023.
- SweetFrog, 5225 Canyon Crest Dr, STE 90, opened in 2012 and closed in 2019. It was the first SweetFrog that I ever visited in 2015.
- Sweet’s Yogurt & Creamery, 231 E Alessandro, Ste 6F, was a locally owned, self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2014 and closed in 2016. They also carried hard scoop ice cream and Italian ice.
- Swirl/Mumbles, 1400 University Ave, opened in 2008 as Swirls. At some point, the name was changed to Mumbles. The shop closed in 2010. It was located near UCR.
- Swirl Fiesta, 7706 Limonite Ave, was a self-serve froyo shop that also offered Mexican snacks (e.g., esquites, raspados, bionicos). It opened in 2016 closed in 2020.
- TCBY, 1170 Galleria At Tyler, had a shop at the Galleria at Tyler. I couldn’t find any reviews, so it probably closed a long time ago.

Fro-yo girl here. I was excited to find Shenyang Imperial Palace Museum pops/ice bars imported from China, for sale at Good Fortune Supermarket in Alhambra. They’re sold individually for $2.99/popsicle or by the box. A box contains 3 individually wrapped popsicles.
I purchased the Zhenghongqi Armor popsicle and the Phoenix Tower popsicle. The Phoenix Tower was the tallest building in Shenyang during the Qing Dynasty.
The packaging is in Chinese. It says, “Shenyang Forbidden City Phoenix Tower Light Milk Ice Cream.” The wooden popsicle stick says Shenyang Forbidden City.
The back of the packaging has a photo of Phoenix Tower and a story about the building.
Each popsicle is 72g and is made with cream and milk. The popsicle looked just like the picture on the package, i.e., a three-story building.
The milk flavor seemed a bit off. It tasted a bit buttery and was creamy and firm but had an icy edge. It didn’t taste fresh. The strawberry Zhenghonggi Armor popsicle tasted better.

I purchased the Zhenghongqi Armor popsicle. The packaging is in Chinese. It says, “Shenyang Forbidden City Zhenghongqi Armor Succulent Berry Ice Cream.” The wooden popsicle stick says Shenyang Forbidden City. There’s a long story about the history of the armor on the back of the package. The armor is from the Eight Banners, the military organization of the Manchu.
Each popsicle is 72g and is made with milk, cream, and strawberries. The popsicle looked just like the picture on the package. I liked the flavor. The ice cream was creamy but with an icy edge and I could see some strawberry bits. The strawberry was blended throughout the pop. It tasted natural and not too sweet. It’s not as refreshing as a popsicle with less dairy, but it’s more satisfying. I’d like a little more strawberry flavor.
The Shenyang Imperial Place in Shenyang City is the only other royal palace in China (the other royal place is the one in Beijing’s Forbidden City). It was built in 1625 by the emperor of the Qing Dynasty.

Go Greek Yogurt
Fro-yo girl here. It’s no secret that I love froyo, but I’ve been hearing about acai since I first started this blog in 2008. The first time I mentioned acai on this blog was in 2008, because Cefiore had a delicious froyo flavor called acai berry.
I avoided acai bowls for many years because most acai bases are made with bananas (I loathe bananas). However, most acai places also have other bases, some of which do not contain bananas (e.g., pitaya, matcha, coconut). I usually get the pitaya base, which is icy and not as flavorful as a good froyo.
There is one thing I like about acai shops: the toppings. The fruit is fresher. For example, the cut fruit at froyo shops sits in the toppings bar for I don’t know how long. When I want strawberries in my pitaya bowl, the strawberries are sliced after I place my order. Also, acai shops have rich nut butter sauces that most froyo shops do not offer. And acai shops have healthy toppings that I actually like, such as hemp seeds, chia seeds, flax seeds, goji berries, cacao nibs, etc.
If you like your froyo, want a wider variety of healthy toppings, and are in Los Angeles, check out Go Greek Yogurt and Yoga-urt (both have multiple locations). They both offer healthier toppings and excellent frozen yogurt. Yoga-urt’s frozen yogurt is also vegan, organic, kosher, and soy-free. I love the pistachios and housemade chocolate shell! Pressed Juicery also offers healthier toppings for its plant-based Freeze (Freeze isn’t froyo though) and acai bowls. The almond butter is the best topping.

Fro-yo girl here. It’s early August and I just had some Pumpkin Pie froyo at Yogurtland. Pumpkin pie froyo is back and it’s one of Yogurtland’s fall froyo flavors. The fall flavors are Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake Swirl (Pumpkin Pie + Cheesecake), Salted Caramel froyo (returning favorite), and S’mores froyo.
Yogurtland calls S’mores froyo brand new but I remember having it in 2014 (and I have photographic evidence) during the Outdoor Adventure promo. They even had a S’mores mix topping. Back in 2014, I wrote, “S’mores frozen yogurt “combines toasted marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers.” It’s a mellow, creamy flavor that tastes like milk chocolate marshmallows.” Maybe they changed the flavor but I tried it again and it still tasted like a creamy, mild chocolate marshmallow. I couldn’t taste the graham crackers. Recommended toppings: Golden Grahams, chocolate chips, whipped cream. The seasonal flavors are available for a limited time, while supplies last.
There was a new seasonal topping, Chocolate Chip Cheesecake Bites. The bites were chewy and tasted a bit like chocolate cookies. They were somewhat bland and not as creamy as I expected.
I found the new Fall YL sticker sheets. The stickers include pumpkins, a campfire, froyo cup, froyo spoon, a school bus, backpack, crayons, a gummy bear, and Yogurtland logo. The sticker sheets are free.
Save the date for two promotions. On August 20, guests who buy a cup of s’mores froyo online get one free of equal or lesser value. Fro-yo girl here. Pinkberry just introduced its fall froyo flavor, Green Apple froyo. They call it a new flavor, but I had the chance to try Green Apple froyo at Pinkberry back in 2016. It was a test flavor at the time. I liked it back then and I wrote, “The Green Apple Pinkberry froyo flavor is good, lighter and smoother than ice cream, the flavor is tart and tangy (quite tangy) with lots of bright apple flavor and a sweet finish that seems to have a hint of pear. The yogurt flavor is in there but not prominent.”
I’m not sure if the flavor that I had was the same as the one I had in 2016, since that was a long time ago. However, I would describe what I had today in the same way. It’s a smooth, light, tangy, bright froyo flavor, but it doesn’t have much yogurt flavor.
Pinkberry recommends pairing Green Apple froyo with honey granola, caramel, and cinnamon. I think it would be great with mochi, strawberries, and toasted almonds.
Green Apple froyo is available at participating locations while supplies last or until October 31.

There’s a new collectible summer spoon! The new spoon is blue and it features Menchie holding a heart. It says “I Heart Froyo” on the handle and there’s a heart in the bowl of the spoon. The two featured flavors for this month are S’mores froyo and Vegan Pineapple Coconut Milk Smoothie. Both are returning flavors. S’mores froyo is made with Hershey’s Milk Chocolate and graham cracker crumbs. It’s lowfat and contains no artificial colors, no artificial flavors, and no high fructose corn syrup. FYI, National S’mores Day is Saturday, August 10. Yogurtland is also featuring S’mores frozen yogurt right now, as their sesaonal exclusive flavor.
Vegan Pineapple Coconut Milk Smoothie is dairy-free and contains no artificial colors, no artificial flavors, and no high fructose corn syrup. It’s made with real coconut.

Fro-yo girl here. Aldi just introduced Half Dipped Mint Chip Yogurt Bars (yes, there’s only one flavor). A box comes with four individually wrapped yogurt bars. A box is $3.69.
One bar is 2.65 fl oz and has 100 calories, 6g total fat, 15g total carbs, 9g total sugars, and 2g protein. It’s sweetened with allulose, sugar, tapioca syrup, cultured whey, erythritol, stevia, and monk fruit. Wow, that’s a lot of different sweeteners!
Half-Dipped Mint Chip Yogurt Bars: The mint froyo is white with little chocolate flecks. The chocolate shell is thin, sweet, and crispy. The shell was quite nice. The yogurt part is soft, creamy, and light, almost whipped in texture. It melts fast. The peppermint flavor is very strong and also slightly bitter. I like mint but I thought the mint flavor was too strong to the point of being harsh.
