Chobani Whole Milk Flip Review

Fro-yo girl here. It’s difficult to keep up with all the new products at Chobani. Last month, they expanded their popular Flip product line with the first whole milk Flip varieties. The four new whole milk Flip flavors are Pure Cherry, Pure Blueberry, Pure Raspberry and Pure Pear & Honey.

The packaging looks familiar. It has the same side compartment but instead of crunchy toppings, the compartment is filled with fruit. One serving is 5.3 ounces. Chobani is all natural, probiotic, rBST free, non-GMO, gluten-free, Kosher, with no preservatives.

* Pure Blueberry: The blueberry puree is thicker than a syrup and it had a few whole blueberries. I blended it pretty thoroughly with the yogurt side. The Greek yogurt is plain and unsweetened, so it is sour. The texture is thick and creamy. It’s definitely richer than the nonfat Chobani. The blueberry puree tasted very sweet but once you blend it in to the plain yogurt, it’s not that sweet. One serving is 140 calories. Once I blended the blueberry puree and yogurt, the blueberry flavor was more muted.

* Pure Raspberry: I liked this better than Pure Blueberry. The raspberry puree had seeds and it seemed more flavorful than the blueberry puree. It also seemed thicker than the blueberry puree. This time I didn’t blend the raspberry puree in thoroughly and it was nicer to eat it this way because of the pops of raspberry flavor contrasted with the creamier whole milk yogurt. One serving is 140 calories, 5g fat, and 11g sugars.

Ingredients (Pure Raspberry): Yogurt (cultured pasteurized nonfat milk, cream), raspberry puree, evaporated cane juice, water, pectin, natural flavor, fruit juice concentrate for color, locust bean gum, lemon juice concentrate

I do miss the crunch that the other Flip flavors offer but I also like how they kept the fruit in a separate compartment. I recommend not thoroughly stirring the fruit and yogurt together but swirling them together lightly.

I found Chobani Whole Milk Flip at Target for $1.19 each.

Yogurtland & Nintendo Game On New Flavor: Luigi’s White Chocolate Pistachio

Fro-yo girl here. The Yogurtland & Nintendo Game On promotion launches the latest (and last) Nintendo inspired flavor today, Luigi’s White Chocolate Pistachio froyo. White chocolate froyo is usually mild but tasty.

* Luigi’s White Chocolate Pistachio froyo is described on the flavor card as “Rich white chocolate is swirled together with nutty, antioxidant-rich pistachios for a super creamy, decadent flavor that Luigi goes nuts over.” It’s lowfat and made with real white chocolate and pistachio. The regular pistachio flavor at Yogurtland is pretty mild and without a strong pistachio flavor. White Chocolate Pistachio froyo is even more mild. It’s smooth, creamy and tastes like white chocolate with a slight hint of pistachio.

Recommended toppings: White chocolate chips, almonds, Cap’n Crunch, strawberries

Yogurtland also had a new topping, available for a limited time: Milk caramel turtles.

Luigi’s White Chocolate Pistachio froyo is available while supplies last.

Innovative Soft Serve Shop Spotlight: Frozen Fruit Co. in Santa Monica, CA

Fro-yo girl here. Los Angeles has more frozen yogurt shops than any other city; it is frozen yogurt central. When it comes to froyo/soft serve innovation, expect to find it on the Westside (West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills) where residents are particularly health conscious and affluent.

Enter Frozen Fruit Co., a soft serve fruit shop which opened its doors last month in Santa Monica. It’s not frozen yogurt. They make their soft serve with just fruit, so it’s all natural, vegan, paleo, dairy free, gluten free and refined sugar free. The founders, Michael and Victoria, came up with the recipes back in England. They’re both UK lawyers who wanted a frozen treat that was simple, healthy and tasty.

There are currently four flavors but they’re thinking of adding more:

  • Coconut & cacao: very strong cacao flavor, for chocolate lovers
  • Mango & strawberry: the strawberry makes it tarter and better, mango makes it taste indulgent
  • Raspberry & orange: the orange is really strong and it’s quite tangy
  • Pineapple & passionfruit: another tangy but more tropical flavor, a shop favorite

I thought that the soft serve fruit might be icy, gritty or bland – but it was none of those things. The difference is that Frozen Fruit Co. uses the whole fruit so there’s more texture, plus it’s made right there in the back of the shop so it’s much fresher than what you’ll find elsewhere. The texture was thick, smooth and not at all icy. The flavors really popped.

They have healthy toppings like granola, banana chips, coconut, carob chips, fresh fruit, nuts and pretzels. Edible flowers are complimentary. Instagram and tag Frozen Fruit Co. to get a free topping.

Prices: Cone $3.95, Small $4.95, Medium $6.50, Large $7.50, toppings 50 cents each.

The shop is small but adorable with a colorful paisley theme. Earn rewards with Fivestars. Open daily from noon to 10 PM.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Yogurtland & Nintendo Game On New Flavor: Koopa Troopa’s Lemon Cupcake & New Luigi Spoon

Fro-yo girl here. The latest Nintendo inspired flavor arrives in Yogurtland stores today, Koopa Troopa’s Lemon Cupcake. Of all the Nintendo Yogurtland flavors, this and Dragon Berry Tart were the ones that I was the most looking forward to trying. I love lemon flavors like Tweety’s Lemon Cream Cookie (Yogurtland Looney Tunes 2013) and Lemon Lime Pinkberry.

* Koopa Troopa’s Lemon Cupcake: “Straight from Koopa Village, this dessert combines the sweet, creamy flavors of lemon zest, gourmet cake and buttercream frosting for a bakery treat no Koopa Troopa would resist.” It’s non-fat and has vanilla wafers in it. If you like sweet lemon chiffon cake, you’ll probably enjoy this sweet, creamy flavor. I love the zesty tang of lemons and that was absent here.

Recommended toppings: Pineapple, coconut, mochi, granola, Nilla wafers

Today was also the first day for a new Yogurtland Nintendo spoon design, Luigi’s green froyo spoon.

Koopa Troopa’s Lemon Cupcake is available while supplies last. Mark your calendar for the next and last new Nintendo flavor, Luigi’s White Chocolate Pistachio, which will be released on August 26.

Nostimo Greek Yogurt Bars Review

Fro-yo girl here. I think Nostimo Greek yogurt bars have been available for awhile but I only found them recently since Stater Bros is the only supermarket chain in the West that carries them. I don’t live close to a Stater Bros either. I found Nostimo Greek yogurt bars for $3.49 a box ($2.99 on sale). A box comes with 4 bars. It comes in two flavors, blueberry and strawberry.

* Blueberry Greek frozen yogurt bar: It looks like a Yasso bar. The texture was creamy and smooth. The dominant flavor was milk/cream; the blueberry flavor was present but not strong. It was sweet and not tangy at all. The aftertaste wasn’t clean but it was a bit chalky. The bars aren’t bad but I’d prefer a tangier bar with a stronger blueberry and yogurt flavor.

One yogurt bar is 75g, 100 calories, fat free with 13g of sugar.

Ingredients: Skim milk, Greek yogurt (skim milk, yogurt cultures), sugar, corn syrup, whole milk, blueberry puree (blueberries, sugar, water, pectin, natural flavor, citric acid), milk protein concentrate, maltodextrin, blueberry concentrate, soy lecithin, guar gum, xathan gum, carrageenan

You can use the store locator tool on Nostimo’s website to find their products: http://www.nostimogreekyogurt.com/

Yogurtland & Nintendo Game On New Flavor: Shy Guy’s Pineapple Lime Coconut Sorbet

Fro-yo girl here. The latest Nintendo inspired flavor arrives in Yogurtland stores today, Shy Guy’s Pineapple Lime Coconut Sorbet. It’s a sorbet, so it’s not as exciting as frozen yogurt but lime and coconut go well together so it seemed promising. They only have one new sorbet flavor for the Nintendo promotion, so that’s a plus (seems like they usually have more promotional sorbet flavors).

* Shy Guy’s Pineapple Lime Coconut Sorbet: According to the flavor card, “Take your taste buds on a trip to Yoshi’s Island with real pineapple, lime, and coconut water blended together to create a refreshing and light tropical sorbet.” It’s non-fat, dairy-free, vitamin C fortified and gluten free. I usually assume that the flavor that’s listed first is going to be the strongest but this wasn’t the case. The pineapple flavor was noticeable but it wasn’t strong and it didn’t add tanginess. The coconut water was what I tasted first, then the lime, and finally the pineapple. The flavor was light, sweet and refreshing – but I thought it could have been more flavorful.

Recommended toppings: Pineapple, coconut, mochi, granola

Shy Guy’s Pineapple Lime Coconut Sorbet is available while supplies last. Mark your calendar for the next new flavor, Koopa Troopa’s Lemon Cupcake on August 19th. Luigi’s spoon should be released on August 19th as well.
