Yogurtland Kung Fu Panda 3 Party at Yogurtland Pasadena

Fro-yo girl here. Yogurtland Pasadena had its Kung Fu Panda 3 release party today. They gave out Kung Fu Panda 3 balloons earlier during the day. I didn’t notice the raffle but maybe it was over by the time I visited. They had a buy one, get one ½ off offer and Kung Fu Panda 3 cereal and a giant spoon with a $20 purchase. They also gave out giant spoons with a $15 purchase.

I finally got my Kung Fu Panda 3 Yogurtland temporary tattoos.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Yogurtland Fremont on a Downward Trajectory

Fro-yo girl here. I hate to criticize a frozen yogurt shop but there’s something amiss at the Yogurtland Fremont location. I hope that they recognize that there’s a problem and correct it before it’s too late. It’s clear that the standards have slipped.

Several months ago I encountered fruit that didn’t look very fresh. I noted it and didn’t say anything.

My recent visit was so disappointing that I had to speak up. The matcha green tea flavor is a flavor that I sometimes have a difficult time finding. Yogurtland Fremont had it so I decided to get a cup and when I pulled the handle, it came out super soft. That’s not uncommon for the first part that comes out to be soft but it kept coming out too soft. I showed my cup to the manager who said they’ve been having problems with that machine. I suggested that they fix the problems with the machine rather than let people continue to experience runny frozen yogurt but he said that people have been eating the yogurt from the machine. That may be true but the runny yogurt texture is disappointing. He knew there was a problem but didn’t care to fix it.

I added some mochi balls and these were stale and dried out, of course. They had NO strawberries. Oh and the complimentary water is gone too but that's probably because of the drought.

The price has also increased to 45 cents an ounce. The combination of lower quality and higher price is unacceptable. This location used to be better but lately things have gone south.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

* YOGURTLAND: 4069 Mowry Ave., Fremont, CA 94538

Update: I received an apology from the manager who said the green tea texture and mochi issue had been fixed. I'll return to try them in the future.

Jeni’s American Licks Opening Reception, 1/27/16

Fro-yo girl here. Jeni’s has a new ice cream collection called American Licks – Ice Cream as a Living Artifact, inspired by an art museum. The new flavors are classic, historic flavors improved by Jeni’s. For example, Cherries Jubilee c. 1897 a combination of vanilla ice cream and flambĂ©ed cherries was invented for Queen Victoria’s Jubilee celebration.

The opening reception took place at the Los Feliz Jeni’s Scoop Shop on Jan. 27 from 8 PM – 11 PM. Jeni was at the reception and the first 50 people in line received a swag box with American Licks pencils, Jeni’s signature orange chenille patch and two limited edition enamel ice cream pins. Plus they received a coupon for a free scoop (yes, you can choose frozen yogurt).

They were secretive about announcing the new flavors. The new flavors are: Orange Sherbet, Black & White Cookies, Candied Ginger, Green Mint Chip, Luxardo Cherries Jubilee and Pralines & Cream. I tried the Candied Ginger, a ginger ice cream with bits of candied ginger – very gingery and fresh plus it’s the prettiest peach color. Green Mint Chip has smooth peppermint ice cream with chopped chocolate and spirulina for natural green color. Black & White cookies has white chocolate – the improved version of cookies & cream.

By the way I tried the limited edition blackcurrant frozen yogurt which isn’t as tart as some of Jeni’s other frozen yogurt flavors but it’s delicious and flavorful with mellow blackcurrant flavor (reminds me of grapes and berries).

American Licks exhibition runs from Jan. 29 – Mar. 31, 2016. Check out the cute American Licks merchandise too: t-shirts, enamel pins, and pencils. There’s even an audio tour hosted by Jeni; call 866-314-7781 and learn about the history and inspiration behind the collection and its flavors.

Future Froyo Shop Pictures: Yogurtland Hayward

Fro-yo girl here. Good news froyo fans – there’s a new Yogurtland coming to Hayward, their first one in Hayward. It’s in the shopping center anchored by Target. The location is on the Hayward/Union City border at the former City Bistro spot next to Panda Express.

The frame for the froyo wall is up and there will be 6 machines, or 12 flavors a day. It’s a smaller location.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Menchie’s Tahitian Vanilla Coconut Milk Flavor Review

Fro-yo girl here. Menchie’s has introduced its first dairy-free coconut flavor, Tahitian Vanilla. None of my local Menchie’s locations carries the new flavor but I finally found it at the Fremont, CA location.

* Dairy-free Tahitian Vanilla made with coconut milk: It’s lowfat, kosher, gluten free and made with real Indonesian coconut milk and Tahitian vanilla. The coconut milk soft serve had many visible vanilla bean specks, so I was expecting a lot of vanilla bean flavor.

Unfortunately, I did not find the vanilla flavor or much coconut flavor for that matter. The flavor was thick, icy and pretty sweet but ultimately very bland. I’m not sure why it was so devoid of flavor.

Recommended toppings: Coconut, Cap'n Crunch, Oreos, cheesecake

The coconut milk flavor does not have live and active cultures.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Afternoon Tea & Other New Treats at Pinkberry Koreatown

Fro-yo girl here. I swung by Pinkberry Koreatown recently and noticed they added quite a few new things.

They now serve Nespresso coffee made with coffee pods, mini sweet treats (5 flavors of mini macarons, $1.50 each), mini cake, mini cheesecake, toasted flavored marshmallows (torched to order), and afternoon tea for two. I saw pretty luster teapots.

The afternoon tea for two is $24.99 and includes fresh fruit, dip, tea sandwiches, petite pastries, soft serve and your choice of coffee or tea. No reservations are required. While some tea shops offer frozen yogurt (e.g., The Tea Shoppe in Howell, NJ, Blu Café in NYC) and a few frozen yogurt shops offer afternoon tea (e.g., Britans Yogurt Mill, Sugarkissed, Frurt in Manchester, UK), finding a place that offers afternoon tea with frozen yogurt is almost impossible.

Yoghurt Barn in the Netherlands has the best looking high tea spread, with froyo for dessert.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

New Yogurtland Kung Fu Panda 3 Spoons: Bao

Fro-yo girl here. New collectible Kung Fu Panda 3 spoons have arrived at Yogurtland. The third of five new froyo spoon designs, Bao, features Bao’s face on a yellow spoon. The back of the spoon says Kung Fu Panda 3.

Two more spoons will be released: Tigress’ orange spoon (February 1) and Master Shifu’s green spoon (February 15).

My froyo spoon collection is happy.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.
