New June Flavors at Menchie’s, New Cup, and Double Smiles

Fro-yo girl here. This June, Menchie’s is featuring two flavors, Vegan Cake Batter and Ruby Gillman’s Vegan Blue Raspberry Sorbet.

Vegan Cake Batter soft serve is made with almond milk and contains no artificial flavors, no artificial colors, and no high fructose corn syrup. It’s lowfat and made with real cake mix. I had a chance to try it in December 2022 when it was a test flavor at Menchie’s Encino. I’m not a fan of the cake batter flavor in general. Vegan cake batter soft serve didn’t taste like cake batter but reminded me of egg nog and butterscotch. Not a fan. Recommended toppings: Whipped cream, Nilla Wafers, chopped almonds.

Ruby Gillman’s Vegan Blue Raspberry sorbet is named after the character in an upcoming Dreamworks movie called Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken. Ruby looks a bit like one of the Trolls in another Dreamworks movie. Menchie’s has had Blue Raspberry sorbet a couple of times. It tasted good – like blue raspberry ICEEs or a blue raspberry Jolly Rancher candy. The flavor is nonfat and gluten-free. Recommended toppings: Sour Patch Kids and Nerds,

There’s a new cup design featuring the Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken movie. The cup is blue and depicts four Kraken characters. The movie comes out on June 30th.

There are two Double Smiles Days this month. Scan the Menchie’s app on June 13 & 14 to earn double smiles.

P.S. The new Menchie’s Mellow spoons didn’t last long.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

New Menchie’s Flavors: Gourmet Pistachio Gelato & Sonic’s Vegan Blue Raspberry Sorbet, New Cup, New Contest

Fro-yo girl here. Happy August! I just went to my Menchie’s and they already ran out of the new flavor, Gourmet Pistachio Gelato with live and active cultures. Hope I can find it later. They had the other new flavor though, Sonic’s Vegan Blue Raspberry Sorbet.

Sonic’s Vegan Blue Raspberry Sorbet:
The sorbet is a pretty blue, the color of blue raspberries. It’s made with real raspberry puree. I could definitely taste the tang and it tasted like blue raspberry candy. Sonic’s Vegan Blue Raspberry Sorbet is nonfat, gluten-free, and does not contain high-fructose corn syrup. Recommended toppings: Sour Patch Kids and gummy worms.

There’s also a new blue Sonic the Hedgehog cup, featuring the image of Sonic the Hedgehog and info about the new Sega/Sonic Menchie’s contest. To enter the contest, scan your Menchie’s app in-store. Three people will win a SEGA Mini Genesis console AND 3 Sonic the Hedgehog games! Get an entry every time you scan your Menchie’s app in-store from now until August 31.

The new flavors are available for a limited time only.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

New June Flavors at Menchie’s

Fro-yo girl here. Happy National Frozen Yogurt Month, National Candy Month, and Pride Month. With the new month comes new flavors at Menchie’s. Menchie’s June flavors are inspired by National Candy Month.

First up, Menchie’s Hershey’s Chocolate Cake Batter is a lowfat froyo flavor made with real Hershey’s chocolate chips and cocoa. It’s made with no artificial flavors, no artificial colors, and no high-fructose corn syrup. It’s lowfat. The second new flavor is HI-CHEW Rainbow Sherbet froyo, which tastes like HI-CHEW Rainbow Sherbet candy from the Fantasy Mix. It’s sweet and sour, with hints of lime, raspberry, and orange. The flavor is made with no artificial flavors, no artificial colors, and no high-fructose corn syrup. It’s nonfat and gluten-free as well.

Chocolate Cake Batter froyo: It tasted like I expected – rich milk chocolate with a “cake mix” taste. The texture was smooth and creamy. I’m not a fan of cake batter flavors but I’m sure people who are would enjoy it. Recommended toppings: Chocolate shell, Hershey’s kisses, whipped cream.

HI-CHEW Rainbow Sherbet froyo: For a froyo, it’s icier than usual – almost sorbet like. It did taste like candy but I could distinguish the raspberry and lime; the orange flavor seemed fainter. I’m not a fan of fruity candy flavors. Recommended toppings: Sour Patch Kids, Skittles.

This is the fourth collaboration between HI-CHEW™ and Menchie's. They first teamed up in 2019 to create HI-CHEW™ Dragon Fruit frozen yogurt. Subsequent flavors were HI-CHEW™ Mango and HI-CHEW™ Passion Fruit in 2020 and HI-CHEW™ Raspberry frozen yogurt in 2021.

I love HI-CHEW but I haven’t had their Rainbow Sherbet flavor. I guess you can only find it in their Fantasy Mix bags. The Fantasy Mix bag comes with three flavors of HI-CHEW: Rainbow Sherbet, Blue Hawaii and Blue Raspberry.

The new flavors are available for a limited time, while supplies last.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Menchie’s New May Featured Flavors: Blue Raspberry made with SweeTarts and Gourmet Tiramisu Gelato

Fro-yo girl here. New froyo flavors are still being introduced monthly by Menchie’s. The latest new flavors are: Blue Raspberry froyo made with SweeTarts and Gourmet Tiramisu Gelato. I found them at Menchie’s in Valley Village.

Blue Raspberry made with SweeTarts froyo is described as “sweet and tantalizingly tart, just like the iconic SweeTarts candy.” I used to be obsessed with Giant Chewy SweeTarts. They came out with Mini Chewy SweeTarts. I haven’t tried those but I can’t imagine that they’d be better than Giant Chewy SweeTarts. Anyway, one thing that I loved about SweeTarts was the fact that they were tangy. And I love tangy froyo. Combining the two could be a real tangy treat. The yogurt was tangy and did taste like blue raspberry Sweetarts (which is to say, not totally natural or like raspberries but still pleasant if you like blue raspberry flavored candy). It was more sorbet like than froyo like and reminded me of a Blue Raspberry ICEE. Blue Raspberry made with SweeTarts is gluten-free and contains no high fructose corn syrup.

Gourmet Tiramisu Gelato is described as featuring “rich and decadent mascarpone flavors layered between bold espresso flavors and sweet cake, finished with a hint of chocolate.” The gelato has live and active cultures, no artificial flavors, no artificial colors and no high-fructose corn syrup. Real tiramisu is a bit mushier, richer, and sweeter than I like but a good gelato/froyo might be better since it would leave out the mush factor. And Gourmet Tiramisu Gelato delivered – rich, thick, creamy, and smooth, it tasted like a sweet espresso mellowed by mascarpone. I liked it better than I expected to.

Menchie’s Valley Village is still full service. Los Angeles County is currently in the yellow tier of COVID-19 restrictions. Restaurants can allow indoor dining at 50% capacity or 75% if all guests show proof of a negative test or full vaccination. As far as I know, samples are still not allowed.

The other week I drove by and noticed that Menchie’s Glendale was open during a weekday, so they must have expanded their hours of operation. The Menchie’s website still says that the location is closed Monday-Thursday and they didn’t announce the new hours on Instagram but they did update the hours on Yelp. They’re open from 1 PM – 9 PM Monday-Thursday and 11 AM – 10 PM Friday-Sunday. On Google, it says they’re open from 1 PM – 10 PM Monday-Thursday, 11 AM – 10 PM Friday-Sunday.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Menchie’s March Featured Flavors: Carrot Cake OREO & Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup

Fro-yo girl here. New month, new featured flavors! This month Menchie's is featuring a returning favorite, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup and a new flavor, Carrot Cake OREO. Menchie’s sure has a lot of OREO froyo flavors. March 6 is National OREO Cookie Day.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup froyo’s return coincided with National Peanut Butter Lovers Day on March 1. Carrot Cake OREO makes me think of Easter and the spring. They’re so popular that they’re a permanent flavor now. Carrot Cake OREO features carrot cake flavored cookies and a cream cheese frosting.

Carrot Cake OREO froyo: Hmmm, I could taste a few warm spices like cinnamon and nutmeg but it definitely tasted like carrot cake, not pumpkin pie. I can’t say that I tasted carrots, but it did taste like carrot cake. I liked it quite a bit! This is a lowfat flavor with no artificial colors. Recommended toppings: Cinnamon Toast Crunch, white chocolate chips, cheesecake bites.

Too bad they didn’t have any Carrot Cake OREOs in the toppings bar.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Menchie’s August Featured Flavors and Dora the Explorer Cup

Fro-yo girl here. Don’t you just love how a new month brings new froyo flavors? This must be my lucky month because I was able to find all three new Menchie’s flavors on day 1 of the promotion.

Gourmet Chocolate Gelato:
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe Gourmet Chocolate Gelato is Menchie’s first gelato. It has live and active cultures but no artificial colors or flavors. It was richer and thicker than their frozen yogurt. The chocolate flavor was mild and milky, like milk chocolate. Recommended toppings: Peanut butter sauce, Nutter Butter, chopped peanuts OR Heath and chopped almonds.

Milk Chocolate Caramel froyo made with Ghirardelli: The first flavor that struck me was the caramel, followed by the chocolate. The caramel wasn’t cloying or overwhelming. The texture was smooth and creamy. Recommended toppings: Chocolate shell, almonds, Nilla wafers

Fresh Squeezed Strawberry Lemonade sorbet: The sorbet was a pretty light pink color, icier in texture, of course. I like tangy lemonade and this lemonade was just sweet. Recommended toppings: Sour gummy candies.

These flavors are around for a limited time only, so try them before it’s too late. I also picked up a new Dora the Explorer cup, which promotes the new movie.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Menchie’s Detective Pikachu Cup & Reformulated Pomegranate Razz Sorbet

Fro-yo girl here. I returned to Menchie’s to get the new limited edition Pokemon Detective Pikachu cup. The movie comes out on May 10. Cute cup. There’s only one design and it features Pikachu wearing a detective cap, similar to Sherlock Holmes’s hat. He seems to be in a city at night.

I also tried the reformulated Pomegranate Razz sorbet. Pom Razz sorbet contains no artificial colors or flavors and no high fructose corn syrup. I don’t remember what the old formula tastes like since it’s sorbet and I usually don’t get sorbet. The sorbet was very flavorful and I could taste the pomegranate and raspberry. The texture was impressively thick and not watery at all. The color was very vibrant. It was a little too sweet for me, but most sorbets and even frozen yogurt flavors are.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Menchie’s December Feature Flavors: Eggnog Cheesecake & Frozen Hot Cocoa

Fro-yo girl here. It’s that time of the month when Menchie’s launches its feature flavors. Or at least, it’s supposed to be that time of the month. I called around and my local Menchie’s didn’t have the new flavors until over a week after they were supposed to have the flavors. I don’t live that far from Menchie’s HQ, so this constant delay in stocking the latest flavors is very frustrating. So is the lack of a flavor finder feature on the Menchie’s website. Why get people excited over new flavors if the shops don’t even have them?

The two *NEW* feature flavors scheduled to come out on December 1, 2018 were:

* Frozen Hot Cocoa frozen yogurt made with Swiss Miss:
At first, I thought this was the same flavor as the previous flavor called Swiss Miss Classic Hot Chocolate which was introduced in 2015, but the flavor name is different. Are hot chocolate and hot cocoa the same? Apparently not. Hot chocolate should be made with chocolate, whereas hot cocoa is made with cocoa powder. It tasted just like the hot cocoa I used to drink long ago, so it was too sweet. But it was also rich and creamy. Frozen Hot Cocoa froyo is a lowfat frozen yogurt made with no artificial flavors and no high fructose corn syrup. Recommended toppings: Marshmallows, Cool Whip, and chocolate chips.

* Eggnog Cheesecake frozen yogurt: This is a brand new flavor. In the past, they brought back Holiday Eggnog froyo a few times for the holidays. Cheesecake is always a popular froyo flavor, so combining it with eggnog sounds appealing. This flavor didn’t have a strong eggnog note – it tasted like slightly tangy, slightly cheesy vanilla. Not bad. Recommended toppings: Nilla Wafers, almonds, cheesecake.

On December 16, the new feature flavors will be released: Sea Salt Caramel Latte, Chocolate Mint made with York Peppermint Patties. I think both are returning flavors.

The holiday gift card promotion continues. Get a $5 bonus card when you buy $25 worth of Menchie’s gift cards. I already bought mine. Menchie’s is also raffling off boxes of Swiss Miss hot cocoa.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Menchie’s July Featured Flavors: Four Jolly Rancher Sorbet Flavors

Fro-yo girl here. Call 2018 the summer of Jolly Rancher sorbet. First, Orange Leaf partnered with Jolly Rancher for two new flavors, Green Apple Sorbet and Blue Raspberry Sorbet in May. Then, Yogurtland partnered with Jolly Rancher to introduce its Blue Raspberry Sorbet in June. And now Menchie’s has partnered with Jolly Rancher for four new flavors, Green Apple Sorbet, Cherry Sorbet, Watermelon Sorbet, and Blue Raspberry Sorbet.

Green Apple Sorbet and Cherry Sorbet have a July 1 launch date, while Watermelon Sorbet and Blue Raspberry Sorbet will be launched on July 16.

New flavors:

* Cherry Sorbet made with Jolly Rancher flavor: This tastes like Cherry ICEE and the texture was firm, smooth and icy. I’ve always liked cherry candies but I don’t really want them in soft serve form because they don’t taste natural. Cherry sorbet is nonfat, gluten free, and dairy free. Recommended toppings: Gummi bears

* Green Apple Sorbet made with Jolly Rancher flavor: This tastes like Green Apple Jolly Rancher, so it’s tangier than the Cherry Sorbet. The flavor is very strong and artificial. The texture was similar to the Cherry Sorbet. Recommended toppings: Sour gummi worms, popping boba.

It’s rare that I like a sorbet. Sorbets tend to be icy and too sweet. Also, fruit flavored sorbets should taste natural, in my opinion, rather than like candy. This trend of candy flavors from frozen yogurt chains is disappointing for adults who are health-conscious and/or have more sophisticated palates. I stopped buying Jolly Rancher candies when I became an adult.

Menchie’s is also sponsoring a summer contest called Summer of Wonder. To enter, make your favorite Menchie’s mix and top it w/ OREOs, post a pic of your mix on Instagram or Twitter with the following tags, @MyMenchies, @OREO, #OREOMenchiesSweepstakes from July 1-31, 2018. The grand prize is $1,000.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Menchie’s January’s Featured Flavors: New Banana Pudding and Peanut Butter Brownie

Fro-yo girl here. While I was at the brand new Menchie’s Mission Hills, I encountered the *NEW* featured froyo flavors for January: Peanut Butter Brownie made with Skippy Peanut Butter and Banana Pudding made with Nilla wafers.

* Peanut Butter Brownie froyo
is lowfat, kosher, and does not contain artificial colors or flavors. It’s also free of high fructose corn syrup and partially hydrogenated oils. This flavor was rich and chocolatey. It reminded me of chocolate cake batter with a hint of peanut butter. I love peanut butter froyo but I find that I don’t love peanut butter flavors combined with other flavors. I think it’s because I want more peanut butter flavor. Recommended toppings: Peanut butter sauce, peanuts, Cool Whip.

* Banana Pudding froyo is lowfat, kosher, and made with real banana puree. I hate bananas, so all I could taste was banana at first, but then I noticed the vanilla. The vanilla made it taste better. It was mild and creamy. Recommended toppings: more Nilla wafers, white chocolate chips, almonds.

These flavors are available at a limited time at participating Menchie’s locations.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.
