Froyo Scene in Garden Grove, CA

 

Fro-yo girl here. Garden Grove in northern Orange County is far enough away that I don’t visit very often. The population was 172,361 in 2024. Garden Grove is the home of the Crystal Cathedral (renamed Christ Cathedral), Little Saigon, and a sizeable Korean-American population.

As for froyo, there are two current froyo shops, Yogurtland on Brookhurst, which opened in 2011, and Yogurtland on Chapman which opened in 2016.

I found seven closed froyo shops. TCBY was probably the oldest froyo shop. It closed before the second wave of froyo shops. Dolci Mango, which was counter-serve, was the first second-wave froyo shop to open in Garden Grove in 2008. Tutti Frutti may have been the first self-serve froyo shop in Garden Grove.

Costco is still open, but the snack bar no longer serves froyo.

Closed Froyo Shops

• Berry’s on Top, 12901 Harbor Blvd a5, was a self-serve froyo shop that also offered waffles, crepes, elote, fruit bowls, and more. It opened in 2016 and closed in 2022.
• Cefiore, 8871 Garden Grove, was a counter-serve Italian froyo franchise that was open from 2008 – 2013. They also served snow ice, waffles, smoothies, and drinks.
• Cherry On Top, 11931 Valley View St, was a branch of a self-serve froyo franchise. This location opened in the Eastgate Shopping Center in 2016 and closed in 2019
• Dolci Mango, 10130 Garden Grove Blvd, may have opened and closed in 2008. It was similar to Pinkberry, counter-serve with tart froyo.
• TCBY, 12161 Garden Grove Blvd, opened and closed a long time ago, possibly before 2006.
• Tutti Frutti, 14102 Brookhurst St, was open from 2009 – 2010.

History of Yogurtland in Irvine

Fro-yo girl here. With Yogurtland turning 20 this year, I was inspired to look at the history of Yogurtland in Irvine. While the first Yogurtland opened in 2006 in Fullerton, CA, Irvine became Yogurtland’s stronghold. It’s been the home of Yogurtland's HQ since 2012.

Currently, there are four Yogurtland branches in Irvine. Three branches have closed. At its peak, Yogurtland had six branches in Irvine.

Irvine's population is estimated to be around 320,000, so it's large enough to support multiple Yogurtland branches.

Yogurtland Branches in Irvine

Yogurtland, 14775 Jeffrey Rd., Ste. J, Irvine, CA 92618

• Opened 2007
• Closed 2022

This was the first Yogurtland in Irvine. It opened in 2007, the year after Yogurtland was founded. I visited several times, because it was also a test location. They tested breakfast items and fancy cones here. They had 16 self-serve flavors a day.

Yogurtland, 4970 Irvine Blvd #110, Irvine, CA 92620

The Yogurtland on Irvine Blvd is known as Northwood since it is in the Northwood Town Center. This branch offered 16 self-serve flavors a day. The location closed because the landlord did not want to renew the lease.

This Yogurtland location at University Center opened in 2008 across the street from UCI. It’s a smaller location with just 10 self-serve froyo flavors a day and toppings.

Known as The Market Place, this Yogurtland branch on Jamboree Rd. It features 16 self-serve flavors a day and was also remodeled (the faux wood replaced the square green tiles). I still have to visit this location.

Yogurtland, 2738 Alton Pkwy Ste 113, Irvine, CA 92614

Yogurtland on Alton holds the distinction of being the shortest-lived Yogurtland in Irvine. I did not visit it.

Yogurtland, 733 Spectrum Center Dr, Irvine, CA 92618

Yogurtland opened at the Irvine Spectrum, an outdoor shopping mall, in 2015. The location is narrow, but they did squeeze in 8 machines (16 self-serve flavors a day) and the usual Yogurtland toppings. There is no indoor seating, but they have a few small tables outside.

This is the newest Yogurtland location in Irvine; it opened in 2018 at Woodbridge Village Center. There are 16 self-serve flavors a day.

Froyo Scene in Costa Mesa, CA

Fro-yo girl here. Costa Mesa in Orange County is known for being the home of South Coast Plaza, the largest shopping center on the West Coast. The current population is approximately 106,069 and has been declining in recent years. The median household income was $110,073 in 2023.

There are seven places to get froyo in Costa Mesa today. The oldest of these is Yogurt America’s Cup, which opened in 1987 and is self-serve. It was called America’s Cup when it opened. Five of the seven remaining shops in Costa Mesa are self-serve. 

I found six closed froyo shops in Costa Mesa. Golden Spoon was probably the oldest of the closed shops, though I couldn’t determine the opening date.

I thought there would have been more froyo in town because of South Coast Plaza, but I was wrong.

Current Places To Get Froyo

• Boba Junkie, 2300 Harbor Blvd Suite N-6, opened in 2020. It took over a self-serve boba business and kept the self-serve froyo. Boba Junkie has other locations in the OC, but the Costa Mesa one is the only one with froyo.
• House of Yogurt, 369 E 17th St #27, is a self-serve shop that opened in 2008. They hand-craft their yogurt flavors and offer 14 flavors at a time.
• IKEA, 1475 S Coast Dr, opened in 2003. You can get froyo at the IKEA snack bar.
• Milk & Honey, 2981 Bristol St B6, is located at The Camp. The Korean coffee and dessert shop offers counter-serve froyo, including shaved ice topped with froyo. The shop opened in 2008.
• Miss Donuts & Yogurt, 2200 Harbor Blvd, is a donut shop that also offers self-serve froyo. The shop opened in 2013.
• Yogurt America’s Cup, 427 E 17th St UNIT E, is a self-serve froyo shop opened in 1987 and later opened another shop on Harbor Blvd.
• Yogurtland, 1450 Baker St, Ste A2, opened in 2008 and is located near South Coast Plaza

Closed Froyo Shops

• America’s Cup, 2300 Harbor Blvd Ste N-6, opened in 2008. Both America’s Cup locations were owned by the same couple but this location was sold to Boba Junkie. The original America’s Cup name was changed to Yogurt America’s Cup.
• Beach Berries, 1696 Newport Blvd, was a counter-serve froyo shop that may have opened in 2007 or 2008 and closed in 2013. The original location was in Huntington Beach.
• Golden Spoon, 2801 Harbor Blvd # A, may have closed in 2012. I don’t know when it opened.
• Golden Spoon, 488 E 17th St Ste B105, closed in 2010. I'm not sure when it opened.
• Sweet Chills Frozen Yogurt, 2801 Harbor Blvd Ste A, was a counter-serve froyo shop offering ten flavors a day. It took over the Golden Spoon space in 2012 and may have closed in 2014.
• We Heart Froyo was a froyo truck that operated from 2012 – 2015.

Go Greek Opens in Newport Beach

 

Fro-yo girl here. Go Greek recently opened in Newport Beach, CA (Orange County). I missed the grand opening on September 4 but visited about a week later. Go Greek is an authentic Greek yogurteria, serving authentic Greek yogurt in a Greek-inspired setting.

This is a franchise location offering six flavors of self-serve Greek froyo and toppings for $1.35/oz and fresh Greek yogurt with toppings. For the fresh yogurt, you can design your own bowl or go with one of their signature sweet or savory bowls. It is not self-serve.

Their Greek froyo is richer and creamier than the froyo shops and the yogurt is sourced from Greece. The froyo is always on the softer side for some reason, and it does melt quickly. However, I do enjoy the strong yogurt tang of Go Greek Yogurt. The toppings looked fresh, with more fresh fruit options than usual. The toppings do not appear to be organic. Gone are the days when they offer Greek cookies as a topping.

They have an app where you can earn points and free froyo.

It’s a nice looking shop with a brick façade and outdoor courtyard seating. Parking was easy to find. I do dislike the policy of not offering samples. People should be able to try the flavors before choosing.

Froyo Scene in Anaheim, CA

Brewberry Cafe

Fro-yo girl here. Anaheim is the home of the Disneyland Resort, Honda Center, and Angel Stadium. Interestingly, each of these venues offered froyo in the past. Located in Orange County about 25 miles southeast of Los Angeles, Anaheim has a population of 340,512.

The first froyo shop was probably Penguin’s Frozen Yogurt. I’m guessing that it opened in the 1980s. There are currently five frozen yogurt shops in Anaheim and I found 13 closed frozen yogurt shops and one café that is still open but stopped offering frozen yogurt. Most of the froyo shops have been self-serve. Yogurtland's success likely encouraged other self-serve froyo shops to open in the area.

Current Froyo Shops

• Golden Spoon, 5655 E La Palma Ave, opened at Imperial Promenade in 2008. Golden Spoon was founded in Tustin in 1981.
• Pinkberry, 2626 E Katella Ave Space D, is the last Pinkberry left in Orange County. It opened in 2017 at ARTIC, the regional transportation center.
• Yogurtland, 111 E Katella Ave. #20, opened in 2019.
• Yogurtland, 683 N Euclid St, opened at Euclid Plaza in 2009. The price was $0.30/oz back in 2009.
• Yogurtland, 5761 E Santa Ana Canyon Rd, opened in April 2009 in the Anaheim Hills area. It is the oldest Yogurtland in Anaheim.

Closed Froyo Shops

• Bella’s on Katella, 1030 W Katella Ave, was a self-serve froyo shop inside Anaheim’s Anabella Hotel in 2017. It’s hard to say when it closed.
• Center Ice Frozen Yogurt, 2695 E Katella Ave, was a frozen yogurt concession stand inside the Honda Center, the arena that is the home of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks NHL hockey team. The last review as posted in 2017. You can still get soft serve at the Honda Center, but its soft serve ice cream.
• Clarabelle’s, Mickey's Toontown, was the ice cream shop at Disneyland that opened in 1993 and closed in 2022. It offered two flavors of soft serve froyo, vanilla and chocolate. Clarabelle’s Hand-Scooped Ice Cream at California Adventure Park does not offer froyo.
• Exquisito, 720 N Brookhurst St, had a wide variety of items, including frozen yogurt, Mexican snacks (e.g., elote, chamoy apples, tostilocos), crepes, waffles, ice cream, acai bowls, etc.
• Exquisito opened in March 2018 and closed in 2019. The space is now occupied by a boba tea shop called 4Seasons Tea Café.
• Jerry’s Yogurt, 301 S Anaheim Blvd Ste B, was a self-serve shop that opened in 2011 and closed in 2013. The space was then occupied by OMG Dessert Lounge.
• OMG Dessert Lounge, 301 S Anaheim Blvd Unit B, opened in 2014 as a self-serve froyo shop. In addition to froyo, they had freakshakes, macarons, cheesecakes, smoothies, milkshakes, frappes, etc. OMG closed in 2019, then reopened in 2021. When it reopened in 2021, it no longer offered froyo, but instead offered macarons, boba drinks, mochi, cookies, and pastries.
• Penguin’s Frozen Yogurt, 5773 E Santa Ana Canyon Rd Ste D, was open in the 1980s most likely.
• Swirl, 6312 E Santa Ana Canyon Rd, opened in 2008 and closed in 2012. It was self-serve.
• Swirls Frozen Yogurt, 140 W Center St, was a self-serve shop that opened in 2009 and closed in 2012. They also served crepes.
• Tutti Frutti, 2306 S Harbor Blvd, was a self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2009 and closed in 2014. The space is now occupied by Ding Tea.
• Tutti Frutti, 510 N Brookhurst St, opened in 2010 and closed in 2013.
• Yogurtland Express, 2000 East Gene Autry Way, was a concession stand at Angel Stadium. It was not self-serve. It may have opened in 2016 and closed in 2021.
• Yogurtland Express, 2000 East Gene Autry Way, was a second concession stand at Angel Stadium that opened in 2016 and is now closed.

Still Open But No Longer Serves Froyo

• Brewberry Café, 1770 S Harbor Blvd, Ste 120, opened in 2014, offering self-serve froyo, coffee, and more. They remodeled and stopped offering froyo in 2022.

Froyo Scene in Buena Park, California

Berrysweet, Buena Park

Fro-yo girl here. The home of Knott’s Berry Farm, Buena Park, is a smaller city in northern Orange County with a population of 82,450 (2022). Over 42% of residents are Hispanic, 28% Asian, and 22% Anglo. The Entertainment Corridor also includes Pirate's Dinner Adventure, Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament, and several hotels.

The earliest froyo shop in Buena Park was Golden Spoon. Golden Spoon was founded in Orange County in the 1980s and I'm not sure when it opened in Buena Park, but it was before the second wave of froyo. The second froyo wave in Buena Park occurred in 2008 with the opening of Berry Cool, Berrysweet, and Tutti Frutti. 

I found eight closed froyo shops and one that’s still open, Yogurtland. The majority of these shops were self-serve. None were truly innovative.

Knott’s Berry Farm has an ice cream shop called Mix-It-Up. You can get soft serve ice cream there but not froyo.

Yogurtland opened at 5972 Orangethorpe Avenue, opened in November 2013.

Closed Shops

• Berry Cool, 5238 Beach Blvd, was a self-serve froyo shop that opened in May 2008 and closed in 2013.
• Berrysweet, 8308 La Palma Ave, was a self-serve froyo shop in downtown Buena Park that opened in 2008 and closed in 2018.
• Cool Berry, 8532 Commonwealth Ave, was a shaved ice and counter-serve froyo shop that opened in 2007 and closed in 2008. Interestingly, Berry Cool opened in 2008 with a self-serve froyo format, in a different location.
• Golden Spoon, 8261 La Palma Ave, was an old-school counter-serve froyo shop and a part of the chain that started in Orange County. It probably opened before 2007. It closed in 2017.
• Poki Yo, 6924 Beach Blvd Ste K-333, was a build-your-own poke bowl eatery at The Source which opened in 2017 and closed in 2018. They gave diners free froyo with a purchase of a meal. The frozen yogurt machine broke in 2018. They had other locations and some of them also had froyo machine problems.
• Spoonful Yogurt Café, 5151 Beach Blvd, Unit F, was a self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2014. I’m not sure when it closed but it was replaced by Yuchun, a Korean restaurant, in 2016.
• Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt, 7941 Beach Blvd, Ste D, opened in May 2008 and closed in 2022. Like other Tutti Frutti shops, it was self-serve.
• Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt, 8890 Valley View, St Ste A, opened in 2009 and closed in 2010 or 2011.

Froyo Scene in Brea, California

Fro-yo girl here. Brea is a city in northern Orange County that's about thirty miles southeast of Los Angeles. The word Brea means “tar” in Spanish and reflects the city’s history as a center for crude oil production. The population of Brea in 2022 was 46,993 with a median household income of $122,051. It's smaller than neighboring Yorba Linda and La Habra.

TCBY was probably the first froyo shop in town or it could have been Golden Spoon. It was inside the Brea Mall. I’m not sure when it opened or closed. The newer shops were mostly self-serve. 

Yogurtland is the only froyo shop left in Brea. However, there are two places to get soft serve froyo in Brea in 2024. With Pita GR opening in Brea, Brea residents have access to froyo with housemade baklava. Drool. 

Current Froyo Shops

• Pita GR, 2445 E Imperial Hwy, Unit F, opened in August 2023. This is the second location. The first opened in Downey in September 2018. The chef is Greek and they make their own Greek froyo. The froyo toppings are Greek-inspired. It's not a froyo shop but a fast-casual restaurant that serves froyo.
• Yogurtland, 730 E Imperial Hwy B, opened in 2009. The froyo was $0.30/oz back then. Yogurtland was founded in Orange County; the first location was in Fullerton.

Former Froyo Shops

• Freshii, 855 E Birch St, was inside Target Brea from 2016 – 2017. They served bowls, smoothies, and froyo. Target closed all the Target Freshii locations in 2017.
• Golden Spoon, 101 E Imperial Hwy # D, closed in 2017 and seems to have been open before 2008. It had the older Golden Spoon look. It was counter-serve. Golden Spoon was founded in Orange County.
• Pinkberry, 1623 E Imperial Highway, opened in 2011 in Brea Plaza and closed in 2015. It was one of the few self-serve locations.
• Prinkipia Frozen Yogurt, 315 N Puente St, Ste G, has no reviews so I’m not sure when it opened or closed. It was self-serve.
• TCBY, 2116 Brea Mall, was inside the Brea Mall. I couldn’t find the opening or closing date.
• Tutti Frutti, 955 E Birch St, opened in 2009 and closed in 2016. It was self-serve and $0.35/oz in 2009.
• Yogurt Hub, 1065 Brea Mall, opened inside Brea Mall in 2017 and might have closed in 2017. It was self-serve and offered 18 froyo flavors a day.

Froyo Scene in Tustin, CA

Fro-yo girl here. After attending the grand opening of Golden Spoon in Tustin, the city where it was founded, I felt inspired to look at the history of froyo in Tustin. There are currently four froyo shops in Tustin: two Yogurtland locations, the new Golden Spoon, and Joghurt, and five that have closed. Interestingly, Tustin has never had a Menchie’s, Tutti Frutti, or Red Mango.

Tustin, known as the City of the Trees, is in Orange County and currently has a population of nearly 80,000. It is a smaller city, with an area of 11.08 square miles. It was known for the Marine Corps Air Station, MCAS. MCAS closed in 1999 and the area is now known as Tustin Legacy. The average household income in Tustin is $139,477 and the median age is 36.2 years.

Tustin is also where Golden Spoon began. In 1980, Jeff Barnes acquired a health food store in Tustin called Yogurt and Things. A year later, he decided to focus on frozen yogurt. The name Golden Spoon was adopted in 1983.

Current Froyo Shops

• Golden Spoon, 1090 Irvine Blvd, opened in April 2024. The counter-serve froyo shop offers ten froyo flavors a day and toppings.
• Joghurt, 17395 17th St # C, is in Tustin’s French Quarter. The self-serve froyo shop opened in 2009 when the froyo was $0.30/oz, the same price as Yogurtland in Tustin. Today, it’s cheaper than Yogurtland.
• Yogurtland, 15090 Kensington Park Dr #410, opened in 2017 at The Village at Tustin Legacy. It has a newer, more mature interior design with light wood replacing the older green and white square tiles. There are 16 self-serve froyo flavors a day.
• Yogurtland,13842 Newport Ave, was the first self-serve froyo shop in Tustin when it opened in a small strip mall in 2008. While the space is smaller, the shop does offer 16 froyo flavors a day. It was $0.30/oz in 2008 and $0.74/oz today.

Closed Froyo Shops

• Go Bananaz, 1084 Irvine Blvd, was a family-owned self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2009 and closed in 2019. It had a Hawaiian tropical theme. They offered 16 froyo flavors a day.
• Golden Spoon, 528 E 1st St, Ste A, was a counter-serve froyo shop. I’m not sure when it was open, but due to the lack of information, it was probably before 2008.
• iYogurt Café, 664 El Camino Real, was a self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2009. The last review was in 2010.
• Le Yogourt, 14001 Newport Ave Ste A, was a self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2009. It was only $0.30/oz, but reviewers preferred Yogurtland (which was also $0.30/oz). Le Yogourt closed in 2011.
• Pinkberry, 2883 Park Ave, Tustin, CA 92782, opened in The District in 2008 and closed in 2016.

Still Open But Longer Serves Froyo

• Costco, 2700 Park Ave, served froyo at the snack bar but switched to soft serve ice cream in 2020.
• Costco, 2655 El Camino Real, also served froyo at the snack bar.

Froyo Scene in Seal Beach, CA

 

Fro-yo girl here. Seal Beach is a quaint city of 25,000 residents in North Orange County, along the Pacific Coast Highway. It has a nice pier and beach. Old Town Seal Beach along Main St. is the center of town. The town has a large population of retirees; 40% of the population is 65 or over. Businesses close early.

And yes, you can get froyo. There are currently two froyo shops, Peachwave and Yogurtland. Both are self-serve froyo chains. Froyo made its way to Seal Beach relatively late. Flavory Yogurt was the first froyo shop in town, opening in 2009. On the other hand, nearby Long Beach was a hotbed of froyo activity.

OPEN

• Peachwave, 348 Main St, Suite A, opened in 2019 and it’s located down the street from the Seal Beach Pier and the beach. It looks like a clean, well-maintained shop, with 10 self-serve flavors a day and a toppings bar.
• Yogurtland, 12357 Seal Beach Blvd #2, is at The Shops at Rossmoor. This branch opened in 2011.

CLOSED

• Flavory Yogurt, 347 Main St. #B, was the independent self-serve froyo option in Old Town Seal Beach. The shop was open from 2009 – 2015. Flavory also served acai bowls, smoothies, and juices.
• Golden Spoon, 1067 Pacific Coast Hwy, while known for counter-serve froyo, opened as a self-serve shop in Seal Beach in 2013. The shop was open for about a year.
• Yalla Mediterranean, 12420 Seal Beach Blvd., wasn’t a froyo shop but the Mediterranean eatery offered one flavor of Greek froyo, plain, with Greek toppings till the machine broke around 2018 and wasn’t fixed. They closed for good in 2020.

The local Seal Beach Jamba Juice may have offered Whirl’ns frozen yogurt in 2011 but there was no mention of Whirl’ns in reviews.

Orange County Froyo Guide: Huntington Beach

Fro-yo girl here. Huntington Beach in Orange County, a city of 200,000 inhabitants is known for its beaches and surf culture. It’s also been the home of many froyo shops, past and present. Great American Yogurt, 19073 Beach Blvd, was one of the oldest, if not the oldest froyo shop, in Huntington Beach. The family-owned shop closed in late 2019. I’m not sure when it first opened. Golden Spoon, 8915 Atlanta Ave Ste A, is still open and has been serving Huntington Beach since 1996. It’s still counter serve and keeping up the old school froyo flame. Golden Spoon is a chain that started in Southern California.

There are four remaining self-serve froyo shops.

• Cool King, 7011 Warner Ave, is the independent self-serve shop that opened in 2014. Like Yogurtland, it offers 16 self-serve froyo flavors a day. During my visit, I was impressed with the froyo texture, range of toppings, cleanliness, and customer service.
• Holsom by Yogurtland, 7598 Edinger Ave. is the remodeled and renamed concept from Yogurtland that opened in November 2020. Holsom by Yogurtland offers wholesome, delicious and affordable options including hot and cold beverages (no coffee), savory toasts, sweet toasts, grain bowls, acai bowls and Yogurtland soft serve froyo, ice cream, and sorbet. This the currently the only Holsom by Yogurtland location.
• Yogurtland, 9961 Adams Ave., opened in 2008. It was the first Yogurtland in Huntington Beach.
• Yogurtland, 18525 Main St., opened in Five Points Plaza in 2016. It was the third Yogurtland location to open in Huntington Beach. The location on Edinger opened in 2013.

Here’s the list of former froyo shops in Huntington Beach:

• 33 Degrees Gelato & Yogurt, 10061 Adams Ave # 101, from 2011-2014. The successor to Yo Yum Yum added gelato and continued to offer self-serve froyo. The space is now occupied by Poki Poki.
• Beach Cities Yogurt & Gelato, 16895 Beach Blvd, from 2007-2009: Known as the first tart froyo shop in HB, Beach Cities had froyo and gelato. It was the only Shakeaway in Orange County.
• Cefiore, 200 Main St, Ste 109, from 2007-2011: This was the first Cefiore to open in Huntington Beach and it was near the beach. The counter-serve froyo shop specializing in tart froyo was often compared to Pinkberry.
• Cefiore, 6846 Edinger Ave, from 2007-2009: The second Cefiore to open in Huntington Beach received favorable reviews while it was open.
• Cherry on Top, 7011 Warner Ave, 2008-2014: This was a popular self-serve froyo shop. In 2014, Cool King took over the space. In between Cherry On Top and Cool King, it was called Super Cool briefly.
• Fresh Yogurt, 16556 Bolsa Chica St., from 2010-2013: This self-serve froyo shop offered 10 flavors a day.
• Menchie’s, 19694 Beach Blvd, from 2008-2016: This location offered 14 self-serve froyo flavors a day.
• Pinkberry, 7811 Edinger Ave #116, located in Bella Terra, 2007-2017: Ten years of swirling – not too shabby. It was counter-serve and it sounds like it was dirty and run down towards the end.
• Shakeaway, 120 5th St, from 2015-2018: The global UK milkshake chain was not technically a froyo shop but they did offer froyo. I went there once but the froyo machine was out of order and they didn’t know when it would be fixed (sounded like it had been out of order for awhile). They mixed ingredients into the froyo.
• SweetXO, 7631 Edinger Ave Ste 151, from 2014-2015. The short-lived sweets emporium featured Established in 2012 in California, SweetXO is an independent social, lifestyle and shopping concept self-serve Xogurt, baked goods, soda, candy, apparel, gift and décor items.
• Whipp’d, 15887 Gothard St, from 2014-2017. Named after Dole Whip, Whipp’d offered Dole Whip, Carbolite, shave ice, Blue Bell ice cream, and more.
• Yo Yum Yum, 10061 Adams Ave # 101, from 2008-2011: Another self-serve froyo chain, Yo Yum Yum had a few locations in Southern California. The Huntington Beach location it was renamed 33 Degrees Gelato & Yogurt in 2011.
• YogiBella, 15887 Gothard St, from 2013-2014.The self-serve froyo shop also offered juices and smoothies.
• YogiBerry, 15887 Gothard St, from 2011-2013. YogiBerry was sold in 2013 and became YogiBella.

As the home of the first Holsom by Yogurtland and the only Shakeaway in Orange County, Huntington Beach has seen plenty of froyo activity.

OMG! Dessert Lounge Reopens in Anaheim, CA

Fro-yo girl here. I reported that OMG! Dessert Lounge in Anaheim, CA closed in 2019. It’s open again at the same location by the gas station. I was pleasantly surprised by OMG! when I visited in 2017. They had 14 froyo flavors a day and a self-serve format. In addition to froyo, they had freakshakes, macarons, cheesecakes, smoothies, milkshakes, frappes, etc.

But, the new OMG! does not have froyo (sad face). They switched to soft serve ice cream. It’s currently full service but they plan to offer self-serve later. OMG! 2021 also offers macarons, boba drinks, mochi, cookies, and pastries.

Mmmm, why couldn’t they offer some froyo? I’m sure disappointed froyo fans are going to show up.

Organic Froyo Shop Coming to Fullerton, CA

Fro-yo girl here. I don’t have details but I spotted a “coming soon 1st in O.C.! Organic frozen yogurt” sign in downtown Fullerton at the Fullerton Chamber of Commerce building. I thought I saw Joe’s in the window of a future shop. It’s at the corner of Harbor and Chapman.
