Fro-yo girl here. Kettl, which started out importing teas from Japan, opened its first cafĂ© outside of NY, in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles in February. Known for matcha, the Kettl menu includes tea lattes and cortados, traditional matcha, iced teas, and brewed teas. I also saw a sign by the register for Kettl X August “Ice Cream Bars” and was intrigued. The bars are exclusive to Kettl Los Feliz and created with Chef Malcolm Livingston, former head pastry chef at noma and wd~50 using Kettl’s tea. His goal was to create a non-dairy, gluten-free, non-nut based ice cream (tiger nut is not a nut, despite the name). The 90g bar was $14.
Sobacha bar: Loved the holographic wrapper. The bar was thick and had a ridge on top and crunchy bits on the light brown shell. Tiger nut milk must be mild. I mostly tasted the coconut cream vs. the tiger nut milk. The bar exterior had a roasted flavor. The ice cream portion was fairly creamy and mild with a clean aftertaste. Worth $14? I’m not sure but it was clearly high quality. You can only get the bars at Kettl Los Feliz.
The three flavors are matcha (sold out during my visit), houjicha, and sobacha (roasted buckwheat). I’ve never had roasted buckwheat ice cream before.
A sobacha bar is 220 calories, 16g total fat, 20g total carbs, 12g sugars, and 4g protein. The first ingredient is tiger nut water, followed by coconut cream, sweetened condensed coconut milk, cane sugar, plant butter, soba cha tea, etc.

Fro-yo girl here. It’s been awhile since Pressed came out with a new Freeze flavor – Blood Orange was the last new flavor and that was released in January 2020. They also introduced acai bowls in July 2020; the acai which comes out of the soft serve machine, so it’s a lot like Freeze.
Dragon Fruit Freeze is available as a Freeze (with toppings) or as a smoothie bowl (same product – it either comes in a cup or a bowl). The soft serve has a beautiful blush pink color. It’s much creamier and smoother than the Freeze flavors that are made with almond milk. Dragon Fruit Freeze is made with oat milk, dragon fruit puree, coconut cream, mango puree, strawberry puree, agave, monk fruit, lemon juice, pea protein, and sea salt. Dragon fruit doesn’t have a strong flavor, so I mostly tasted the mango and coconut. There was another taste and I was tempted to say that dragon fruit tastes like strawberry, only I see that they added strawberry to Dragon Fruit Freeze (I didn't know that there was strawberry when I tasted Dragon Fruit Freeze). Anyway, it was sweeter than I expected and did not have any tang. I think people will like the creaminess of Dragon Fruit Freeze.
Ingredients: Oat Milk (Water Oat Flour, Natural Flavor), Red Dragon Fruit Puree, Coconut Cream, Mango Puree, Strawberry Puree, Agave, Monk Fruit (Erythritol, Monk Fruit Extract), Lemon Juice, Pea Protein, Sea Salt.
Dragon Fruit Freeze is available while supplies last for a limited time.

Fro-yo girl here. Cado is the first avocado based ice cream or non-dairy frozen dessert. It checks all the boxes: it’s dairy-free, vegan, gluten free, plant based, organic, soy free, non-GMO, nutrient dense, and has heart healthy fats. Cado has less sugar than the leading brands of non-dairy frozen desserts. It’s made with fresh avocados.
Doesn’t everyone or almost everyone love avocados? I know that I do. Mr. Froyo does and he loves the idea of using avocados to make a creamy faux ice cream.
Available flavors: Deep Dark Chocolate, Lemon, Mint Chocolate Chip
Whole Foods Pasadena had all three flavors. Cado was $6.99 for a pint. Simply Lemon sounded appealing to me, since I love the tartness of lemons.
Simply Lemon: The lemon flavor was super strong and very tangy. I’d say it was too strong since I couldn’t taste anything but lemon juice concentrate. Lemon juice concentrate isn’t quite as tasty as lemon juice. The texture was firm, creamy, dense, smooth, and almost chewy. One ½ cup serving is 170 calories, 12g total fat, 13g sugars, 18g total carbohydrate, and 1g of protein.
Mr. Froyo ate most of it because it was healthy and simple, but he feels the lemon flavor is unnecessary.
Ingredients: Organic Avocado Puree (Water, Organic Avocado), Non Organic Avocado Oil, Organic Cane Sugar, Organic Tapioca Starch, Organic Lemon Juice Concentrate, Sea Salt, Organic Guar Gum, Organic Gum Acacia, Organic Lemon Oil
I’d like to see a plain version. Why mask the flavor of avocado? Cado is trying to be like regular ice cream with traditional flavors. They emphasize the fact that their ice cream doesn’t taste like avocados. But, what’s wrong with tasting like avocados???
P.S. Cado is not frozen yogurt.
4 out of 5 stars.
