Yoga-urt 5th Anniversary Celebration Recap: New Flavor, New Menu Item

Fro-yo girl here. We’re back from Yoga-urt, 1407 Kenneth Rd, Glendale, CA, and the 31st flavor was finally revealed: Ultimate Ube! I guessed that the new flavor would be purple, but that was easy to guess since most of Yoga-urt’s anniversary flavors have been. The shop looked very celebratory with lots of pink and purple balloons.

Ultimate Ube: The texture was thick though it wasn’t quite as firm and dense as some of the other flavors, possibly because it was a new flavor that was freshly made and/or the fact that it was 98 degrees was taxing the soft serve machine? The flavor was on the sweeter side and had a hint of spice. Mr. Froyo & I thought it was cinnamon and maybe something else. The ube flavor was on the mild side but we were tasting more than just cinnamon, almond milk and cashews. Yes, it’s plant-based, organic, gluten free, soy free and kosher. Recommended toppings: Pistachios, gluten free waffle cone, almonds.

I was so excited about the new flavor that I forgot to check out the brand new Classic Chocolate and Strawberry shakes. Also, you can request a shake made with any flavor that’s in rotation.

The celebration continues tomorrow at the Echo Park location (2211 W. Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles). Enjoy $1 off your purchase on Sunday from 2 PM - 5 PM.

Your froyo purchases will help others too; $1 from every transaction will be donated to the Loveland Foundation, an organization that brings opportunity, access, validation and healing to communities of color, and Support + Feed, a charitable initiative that provides plant-based meals during the coronavirus pandemic and beyond for those in need, including families, seniors, victims of domestic abuse, etc.

P.S. If you’re looking for Pistachio Passion or Vanilla Harmony pints, they’re sold out.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Custom Shakes Now at Yogurtland Lakewood

Fro-yo girl here. Yogurtland Lakewood now offers custom shakes. It’s currently the only Yogurtland location to offer shakes. The shakes are $5.99 each. They’re available in one size.

The process is easy. Pick up a metal cup at the shake station and fill it to the line with frozen yogurt (you can choose any flavor/s you’re in the mood for). Then, fill the cup to the top with anything from the toppings bar, including sauces, fruits, cheesecake, candy, cereal, etc. Once the cup is full, take it to a Yogurtland employee for blending. After blending, you can add whipped cream and more toppings!

I did hear that gummy bears sometimes get caught in the blender so you might want to save those as a topping vs. use them as a blend in.

I didn’t want a very sweet shake, so I chose plain tart (one of their best flavors) and doused it with lots of raspberry puree. Their premium fruit purees are really good. I was essentially creating a raspberry tart froyo shake. For mix-ins, I selected fresh strawberries, blueberries and some Cap’n Crunch.

My shake was super thick, tart and fruity. The fruit seeds added texture. The Cap’n Crunch got lost after being blended but maybe I didn’t put enough in my cup. The cup was 20 ozs and it was filled to above the brim. I added another spoonful of Cap’n Crunch. It’s a good deal – tons of yogurt and toppings – but it’s super filling. I can’t eat over 20 ozs of froyo at once.

With so many froyo flavors, toppings, sauces and syrups, there’s room for endless creativity and customization.

P.S. Don’t forget $5 Unlimited Cup Tuesdays at Yogurtland Lakewood, August 22 & August 29 from 11 AM - 5 PM.

New Froyo Shakes at Menchie's

Fro-yo girl here. Select locations of Menchie’s recently added a new product, frozen yogurt shakes called Froyo Shakes. I think they started testing Froyo Shakes late last year and they recently expanded the number of stores that carry them.

I went to Menchie’s University in Encino, CA, the training center for Menchie’s. They had a sign for the Froyo Shakes. The associate gave me a clear cup which I filled with my choice of toppings, frozen yogurt and/or sorbet. It’s sold by weight like their frozen yogurt. After I filled my cup with the new Tropical Passion Fruit Sorbet, strawberries and pineapple chunks. He added milk to it and mixed it in the blending machine. It would be nice if they had an alternative milk option as well.

The milkshake tasted fine because I did really like the Tropical Passion Fruit sorbet. However, the blending didn’t seem to transform it. There were huge chunks of fruit in the bottom of my cup (too big for the fat straw that I was using). For some reason, the toppings hadn’t been blended into the sorbet. The fruit pieces were as large as they were before they were blended. Maybe I didn’t choose the right toppings or the machine wasn’t working properly?

I will say that I am a fan of Pinkberry's smoothies. They've always been made properly the few times that I've ordered them.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.
