Fro-Yo Girl Speaks 6th Blogiversary

Fro-yo girl here. Fro-Yo Girl Speaks turns 6 years old today: October 20, 2014. Happy blogiversary!

Earlier this year I moved to the Greater Los Angeles area, the capital of the second wave of frozen yogurt. Unfortunately, the move makes it nearly impossible for me to meet my original goal of visiting every frozen yogurt shop in the Bay Area. I thought I was going to reach the goal since fewer new froyo stores were opening. On the positive side, I’m now living in an area with hundreds of frozen yogurt shops that I’ve never visited before.

Since I’ve moved, it makes sense for this blog to expand its coverage to include Northern and Southern California froyo. I recently put together my list of notable froyo shops in SoCal. Be sure to check it out later this week.

I also stopped writing for Yelp last October. For those of you who enjoy my food and froyo shop reviews, be sure to check out my review blog on Tumblr: http://formeryelpers.tumblr.com/

Join the International Frozen Yogurt Association, the association that I founded. It’s free to join. The monthly enewsletter is also free and will deliver froyo industry news to your inbox. http://internationalfrozenyogurt.com/

Froyo fans, be sure to sign the petition to make froyo the official state food of California! Tell your friends to sign too: http://tinyurl.com/qdnuqkx

Thank you so much to my fans and readers and keep eating frozen yogurt!

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Fro-Yo Girl Speaks is 5 Years Old

Fro-yo girl here. Yes, it's the fifth blogiversary for Fro-Yo Girl Speaks.

It’s been a very exciting year for me because I decided to start the International Frozen Yogurt Association (IFYA) which launched at the end of July 2013. The IFYA promotes the success of the frozen yogurt industry by recognizing quality frozen yogurt stores, increasing access to quality frozen yogurt information, and educating and engaging frozen yogurt consumers. The association is for everyone who loves frozen yogurt. Membership is free.

I'm excited about IFYA's Swirl of Honor, the first quality seal program specifically for frozen yogurt shops, recognizes shops for their commitment to quality. I hope to see plenty of Swirl of Honor stickers on shop windows.

Initially I thought that after I launched the IFYA, I'd have less content for Fro-Yo Girl Speaks, but the opposite has occurred. Now I spend even more of my time thinking about and writing about frozen yogurt.

I'm very close to reaching my goal of visiting every frozen yogurt shop in the Bay Area. There aren't as many openings these days and some places have closed before I had a chance to visit them.

Thank you so much to my fans and readers and keep eating frozen yogurt!

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Fro-Yo Girl's Wish List for 2009

Fro-yo girl here. A new year of fro-yo is upon us accompanied as usual with hopes and dreams for a better future. What does fro-yo girl wish for? Let’s see.
  • Soy fro-yo: It already exists but is hard to find. Soy milk is mainstream now and there are plenty of lactose intolerant individuals. I’m not lactose intolerant but I love soy milk.
  • Kefir fro-yo: The new Starfruit in Chicago offers kefir fro-yo. I’m definitely intrigued.
  • New fro-yo flavors: I hope more fro-yo shops follow the example set by Culture and Chill by coming up with new fro-yo flavors. I’m hoping for two flavors in particular: honey and Meyer lemon.
  • Mochi at Culture Organic Frozen Yogurt: Everyone knows that I love Culture and its homemade toppings but I still miss my mochi balls. I also wish I didn’t have to drive 40 miles for their fro-yo.
  • More homemade mochi all over: What can I say, mochi balls are my favorite fro-yo topping. Maybe some place will even offer moffles (mochi waffles)?
  • Tuttimelon’s growth continues: Tuttimelon already has the most locations in the Bay Area (5 in 2008) and there are 9 more on the way (for now). I’m all for the world domination of Tuttimelon!
  • Fro-yo at Target and Trader Joe’s: They carry yogurt parfaits and are responsive to trends. Adding fro-yo wouldn’t be so difficult.
  • Tart fro-yo in your local supermarket freezer section. There’s a real market opportunity here that I’m sure someone will see and pursue in 2009.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Fro-yo Frenzy Begins

Fro-yo girl here. I'm sure many of you fro-yoholics have fantasized about trying every fro-yo shop in your local area. I've spent the last few months visiting fro-yo shops and every time I get close to visiting all the fro-yo shops (with the exception of some sweet fro-yo only shops and every location of Quickly and other chains), new fro-yo shops open. Not only that, the shops I have visited change their offerings. One person can't cover all the Bay Area fro-yo shops. This is why I was inspired to create this blog - to thank those who have provided me with fro-yo shop tips and to find others on the same quest.

I've reviewed over 90 fro-yo shops in the Bay Area to date - and the quest continues. I've met other fro-yo fans (most notably, fro-yo boy), talked to fro-yo shop owners, attended multiple fro-yo shop grand opening events, collected fro-yo shop t-shirts and more. I'll continue to review fro-yo shops on Yelp but I'd like to use the blog to track fro-yo shop openings, fro-yo shop news, etc.

Know of any fro-yo shops that I've missed? Let me know.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.
