Favorite Froyo Flavors of 2024

Fro-yo girl here. It’s time for me to pick my favorite new froyo flavors of 2024. There were fewer new froyo flavors this year compared to 2023. In particular, there were very few new tart froyo flavors.

Best Tart Froyo (Dairy-Based): Mango Lemonade froyo from Pinkberry

Mango froyo can be too sweet. Adding lemonade gives it the brightness and tanginess that I crave.

Best Sweet Froyo (Dairy-Based): Strawberry Matcha froyo from Yogurtland

Yogurtland created a flavor that balanced the strawberries and matcha.

Best Vegan Froyo: Nana’s Lemon Meringue Pie from Yoga-urt

This was a tough choice because all of Yoga-urt’s new flavors this year were amazing. But, I have to go with Nana’s Lemon Meringue Pie because of the tanginess. Nana’s Lemon Meringue Pie is made with real lemons, marshmallow crème, and the Yoga-urt house almond/cashew base.

My Favorite Froyo Flavors of 2022

Limoncello by Pinkberry

Fro-yo girl here. This was a good year for new froyo flavors. The International Frozen Yogurt Association found 77 new froyo flavors that were introduced in 2022. Sadly, I wasn’t able to try them all but I did try all the new flavors from Menchie’s, Pinkberry, and Yogurtland. That’s 30 new flavors that I tried this year. And my favorite flavors were…

Best Tart Froyo: Tie between Limoncello and Strawberry Shortcake by Pinkberry

I just can’t choose between the two. Love the slightly bitter edge of the Limoncello froyo. Both were tangy and smooth. So good!!!

Best Sweet Froyo: Snickerdoodle by Yogurtland

Snickerdoodle is mild and scrumptious, like snickerdoodle cookies are. The cinnamon is not overpowering. It goes so well with so many toppings especially cookie toppings.

Best Vegan Non-Froyo: Watermelon sorbet made with Sour Patch Kids by Yogurtland

I’ve loved Sour Patch Kids for a long time. I still had my doubts about a sorbet that’s candy flavor. Yogurtland pulled it off. Yes, it tastes like candy but the tanginess makes it addictive. I had it a couple of times and I rarely like sorbets.

2022 had some great new flavors. To see a list of 2022’s new flavors, see https://internationalfrozenyogurt.com/news/new-froyo-flavors-and-trends-of-2022

Best New Froyo Flavors of 2021

Fro-yo girl here. Sampling is back at some froyo shops and there were more new flavors introduced this year compared to 2020. This year, I tried new flavors from Menchie’s, Pinkberry, Yoga-urt, and Yogurtland. I didn’t like this year’s batch of new flavors as much. Some of them tasted too similar to past flavors.

Best Sweet Flavor: Rich Dark Chocolate froyo made with Hershey’s Special Dark Chocolate from Menchie’s

I’m not a fan of chocolate froyo flavors but Rich Dark Chocolate froyo made with Hershey’s Special Dark Chocolate actually tasted different. It seemed less sweet and I also liked the hint of bitterness.

Best Unusual Flavor:
Besharam’s Yogurt Lassi with Raspberries from Salt & Straw

Salt & Straw released their first froyo flavor this year and it was also their first chef-commissioned flavor. The chef, Heena Patel of San Francisco’s Besharam, specializes in Gujarati cuisine. The flavor was so intense with a strong cardamom note, cumin seeds for crunch and flavor, delicate rosewater, and tangy raspberry jam. It was rich and decadent. I bought a few pints.

Best New Froyo Flavors of 2020

Fro-yo girl here. There were fewer new froyo flavors this year because of COVID-19’s impact on froyo shops. Most of the ones I’ve been to stopped offering samples and are full service (even though most are self-serve froyo shops). But there were new froyo flavors introduced this year, so it’s time for me to pick my favorite new flavors for 2020.

Best Tart: Acai Berry by Pinkberry

There were very few new tart froyo flavors this year. Pinkberry was an exception – they’re still good about introducing tart flavors. Acai Berry tasted like blueberry tart (I love blueberry tart) with a hint of acai.

Best Sweet: Carrot Cake OREO from Menchie’s

What is it about carrot cake and froyo? Carrot cake froyo is usually tasty and I don’t even like carrot cake. The dairy mutes the sweetness of the cake flavor. I like the warm spices Menchie’s used.

Best Vegan: Key Lime by Yoga-urt

Yoga-urt continues to be the best vegan froyo you can find and they also continue to introduce fabulous new flavors. Key Lime vegan froyo married an intriguing nuttiness from the house almond/cashew milk base with the tang of key lime. It's also organic, kosher, soy free, and gluten free.

Best New Froyo Flavors of 2019

True Tahini at Yoga-urt

Fro-yo girl here. I don’t think there will be any additional new froyo flavors this year, so it’s time for me to pick my favorite froyo flavors of 2019.

Best Tart: Blueberry Avalanche Tart froyo from Yogurtland

The top two tart flavors this year were Kiwi Strawberry from Pinkberry and Blueberry Avalanche from Yogurtland. Yogurtland’s flavor was tarter and had lots of blueberry flavor. It wasn’t the most creative flavor since Yogurtland already had a blueberry tart froyo, but they put more blueberries in Blueberry Avalanche. But then again, given the rarity of new tart froyo flavors, I’m happy that there were a few new tart flavors from which to choose.

Best Sweet: Golden Graham Cracker froyo from Menchie’s

Golden Graham Cracker was the Menchie’s feature flavor way back in January. I almost forgot about it but then I remembered thinking that starting the year off with such a great flavor was a good sign for the new year. I like being able to see bits of graham crackers in the froyo. The yogurt tasted like graham crackers without being cloyingly sweet. And graham crackers go with every froyo topping, I think.

Best Vegan: True Tahini from Yoga-urt

Yoga-urt continues to wow with the best vegan froyo flavors anywhere. What sets it apart? The freshness and quality of their product for starters. They make their own vegan base with housemade cashew and almond milk. Mr. Froyo was the one who suggested the flavor. He’s also sensitive to sugar, so he LOVES that Yoga-urt’s True Tahini is made with no added sugar. I like that it’s not as sweet as halva and it’s different and interesting. Sweetening yogurt with dates makes it very Middle Eastern.

My Favorite Tart, Sweet & Vegan Froyo Flavors of 2018

Fro-yo girl here. It’s time for me to pick my favorite new froyo flavors of 2018. This year’s new flavors didn’t thrill me. Maybe there are so many existing flavors that it’s hard to come up with something new that’s really good? I hope that’s not the case.

Here are my favorites for 2018:

Best Tart Froyo: Green Tea Lemonade frozen yogurt from Pinkberry

Pinkberry introduced three new tart froyo flavors this year. Green Tea Lemonade was my favorite because I love green tea and lemonade. But, it was pretty similar to the old Green Tea flavor that Pinkberry had, only tangier. And I love tang! Still, it wasn’t as good as last year’s winner, Pinkberry’s Blueberry Muffin frozen yogurt with blueberry muffin topping.

Best Sweet Froyo: Cold Brew Coffee from Menchie’s

I was torn between Strawberry Rose froyo from Yogurtland (love that it’s innovative and you could taste the rose) and Cold Brew Coffee from Menchie’s. After eating Strawberry Rose froyo a few times, I experienced some flavor fatigue. Menchie’s Cold Brew Coffee froyo had a stronger coffee flavor and had caffeine.

Best Vegan Froyo: Pistachio Passion from Yoga-urt

Yoga-urt in Glendale, CA has been producing the best vegan froyo flavors ever since they opened. It must be the freshness and quality of their product. They make their own vegan base with housemade cashew and almond milk. Mr. Froyo and I agreed that the best new flavor of the year was Pistachio Passion. He puts it in his top 3 flavors from Yoga-urt (the other two are Ganesha’s Sweet Greens and Peanut Butter Prana. Strawberry Serenity is #4). Pistachio Passion was introduced for World Vegan Day this November. This flavor is made with organic pistachios grown in Santa Barbara. Yoga-urt grinds the pistachios themselves and adds it to their housemade almond/cashew base. Three kinds of nuts! Unlike other pistachio froyo, it’s full of pistachio flavor and has the added texture of the ground nuts.
