Fro-yo girl here. It’s time for me to pick my favorite new froyo flavors of 2018. This year’s new flavors didn’t thrill me. Maybe there are so many existing flavors that it’s hard to come up with something new that’s really good? I hope that’s not the case.
Here are my favorites for 2018:
Best Tart Froyo: Green Tea Lemonade frozen yogurt from Pinkberry
Pinkberry introduced three new tart froyo flavors this year. Green Tea Lemonade was my favorite because I love green tea and lemonade. But, it was pretty similar to the old Green Tea flavor that Pinkberry had, only tangier. And I love tang! Still, it wasn’t as good as last year’s winner, Pinkberry’s Blueberry Muffin frozen yogurt with blueberry muffin topping.
Best Sweet Froyo: Cold Brew Coffee from Menchie’s
I was torn between Strawberry Rose froyo from Yogurtland (love that it’s innovative and you could taste the rose) and Cold Brew Coffee from Menchie’s. After eating Strawberry Rose froyo a few times, I experienced some flavor fatigue. Menchie’s Cold Brew Coffee froyo had a stronger coffee flavor and had caffeine.
Best Vegan Froyo: Pistachio Passion from Yoga-urt
Yoga-urt in Glendale, CA has been producing the best vegan froyo flavors ever since they opened. It must be the freshness and quality of their product. They make their own vegan base with housemade cashew and almond milk. Mr. Froyo and I agreed that the best new flavor of the year was Pistachio Passion. He puts it in his top 3 flavors from Yoga-urt (the other two are Ganesha’s Sweet Greens and Peanut Butter Prana. Strawberry Serenity is #4). Pistachio Passion was introduced for World Vegan Day this November. This flavor is made with organic pistachios grown in Santa Barbara. Yoga-urt grinds the pistachios themselves and adds it to their housemade almond/cashew base. Three kinds of nuts! Unlike other pistachio froyo, it’s full of pistachio flavor and has the added texture of the ground nuts.

Fro-yo girl here. Yogurtland’s new flavor promotion started today, with three new Flavor Masterpieces: Nectarine Peach Orange Tart frozen yogurt, Strawberry Rose frozen yogurt, and vegan Coconut Cream Pie. Yes, the first one is a new tart froyo flavor (yay!). Coconut Cream Pie is dairy-free and it has live and active cultures, so it’s still frozen yogurt.
The new flavors sound more refreshing than the last batch, the Flavors of Summer. All the flavors were creamy and smooth, including the dairy-free coconut cream pie flavor.
* Strawberry Rose frozen yogurt: I was excited to try this more creative flavor. Yogurtland describes it as, “Fruity, tart, and juicy California Strawberries combined with rosewater in sweet yogurt creates a masterful flavor experience!” I’m happy to report that the rose is very noticeable, even more so than the strawberry, but it’s not too perfume-like. It’s mild and pleasant. Strawberry rose froyo is made with real rosewater and nonfat. Recommended toppings: Fresh strawberries, strawberry puree, honey.
* Coconut Cream Pie vegan frozen yogurt: This is a dense, rich flavor, because of the coconut cream. It tastes like coconut cream. At 50 calories an ounce, I think it’s the highest calorie Yogurtland offering. Yogurtland describes it as, “The sweet combination of REAL Coconut and Graham Crumbs blended into smooth Coconut Milk creates a delicious treat reminiscent of Coconut Cream Pie! Made with REAL Coconut and Graham Crumbs!” Coconut Cream Pie froyo is cultured, dairy free, and made with coconut cream, coconut milk, and coconut oil.
* Nectarine Peach Orange Tart frozen yogurt: Yogurtland describes it as: “This fruity and tangy treat is sure to be a crowd pleaser! Our Flavorologists have blended REAL Nectarines, Peaches, and Oranges into our Tart yogurt to create a truly refreshing frozen treat that is a delicious balance of sweet and tart!” I love tart froyo but I did not like this flavor. It tasted like a peach powdered drink mix for kids. The orange flavor was faint. NPO tart is nonfat, gluten-free, and vitamin C fortified. Recommended toppings: Popping boba.
There were two new toppings: Sour Rainbow Belts and Cotton Candy Fizzies. These flavors and toppings are here for a limited time only, while supplies last.
