Fro-yo girl here. I still love trying new froyo flavors. New flavors and collectible froyo spoons are the best way to draw me into a froyo shop. And of the new flavors that I tried in 2017, the following ones were my favorites.
Best Tart Froyo: Pinkberry’s Blueberry Muffin frozen yogurt
I was really impressed with Pinkberry this year, because they introduced multiple tart flavors and they were all delicious. It was hard to choose a favorite one. Black Raspberry was the tartest of the new flavors and I love all things lemon, including Pinkberry’s Meyer Lemon, but the Blueberry Muffin frozen yogurt stole my heart. I think that the blueberry muffin topping put it over the top.
Best Sweet Froyo: Yogurtland’s Rare Madagascar Vanilla frozen yogurt
If you blinked, you might have missed the best new sweet froyo flavor of the year. Yogurtland only offered Rare Madagascar Vanilla frozen yogurt for a week, from June 26 – July 1. Storms affected the supply of Madagascar’s vanilla beans. Yogurtland’s Rare Madagascar Vanilla frozen yogurt, was made with pure bourbon Vanilla extracted from choice Madagascar vanilla beans using a cold process method and fresh California milk. It was creamy, sweet, and exquisite.

Best Vegan Froyo: Yoga-urt's Purple Power frozen yogurt
It’s no surprise that the best vegan froyo flavor was produced by Yoga-urt in Glendale, CA, yet again. Their product quality is simply amazing. They make their own vegan base with housemade cashew and almond milk. Purple Power was created for Yoga-urt’s second anniversary. It’s made with cherries, raspberries, blackberries, pomegranate, spinach, beets, coconut milk, cashews, basil and more. The flavor has no added sugar, which gives it an extra star from Mr. Froyo. I think I like every flavor with fresh spinach and fresh herbs. Yum.

Fro-yo girl here. I’m not sure how proud I should be but this year I’m going to exceed my froyo consumption from previous years. Last year, I consumed 139 cups of froyo. This year I’ll hit 200 cups of froyo consumed in one year. So yes, I’ve eaten lots of froyo and since I live in SoCal now, most of that froyo has been consumed in and around Los Angeles.
Every year I look forward to trying new froyo flavors. New flavors in 2015 included Southern Pecan Pie (Menchie’s), Pumpkin Spice Latte (Orange Leaf), Pear (Pinkberry), and Candy Clouds (Yogurtland). Which new flavor was my favorite? I decided to pick two, one from an independent froyo shop and another from a chain.
Vanilla Harmony from Yoga-urt in Glendale, CA: It’s vegan froyo made with almond milk. They make their own almond milk and add live and active cultures. I love how you can taste the almond milk and how it tastes fresh, less processed and more natural.
Pinkberry’s Raspberry White Chocolate: Lemon Lime Pinkberry was a close second. Pinkberry turned 10 this year and I have a new found appreciation for their flavors. Raspberry white chocolate surprised me because it was tarter then I expected it to be and the hint of white chocolate added a sweet mellowness. You can really taste the raspberries and the white chocolate was the perfect complement.

Fro-yo girl here. I’ve eaten a lot of froyo this year, about 140 cups and I’ve tried my share of new froyo flavors.
My favorite new flavors this year:
- Menchie’s Just the Cookie
- Menchie’s Zesty Lemon Meringue
- Pinkberry’s Mint Chocolate Cookie
- Yogurtland’s Black Currant Berry Tart
- Yogurtland’s Cookie Butter
- Yogurtland’s Flan
It looks like I really like cookie flavors, that is, froyo with bits of cookie in it. I do love tart flavors but there weren’t as many new tart flavors introduced this year.
My very favorite new froyo flavor of 2014 is…Flan by Yogurtland. Flan was part of the Second Annual Flavor Quest, representing Spain, and I described it as “rich, creamy and with an intense caramelized sugar taste, even better than the earlier Creme Brulee flavor (from Yogurtland) perhaps due to the addition of sweetened condensed milk.”
I’m really hoping it comes back as part of the Fan Choice Awards! Fingers crossed.

Fro-yo girl here. Peach Pinkberry, Blackberry Passionfruit (Yogurtland), Honey Badger (Red Mango)...2012 had its share of brand new fro-yo flavors. My favorite new fro-yo flavor for 2012 was from a new local (San Francisco) self-serve shop, Easy Breezy Frozen Yogurt: Lime Breezy fro-yo.
Lime is one of my favorite flavors and it’s one that I rarely see in fro-yo form. Easy Breezy makes Lime Breezy with fresh lime juice. The fresh, tangy natural lime flavor shines through. The texture is creamy, light and smooth. The color is natural (not green). Check Easy Breezy’s Facebook page for the current flavor line up.
I also liked Yogurtland’s Key Lime Bar Tart fro-yo flavor, which was introduced early in 2011 and was made with real key limes.
You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.
