986 Pharmacy Takes Over Yogurtland Alhambra Space

Fro-yo girl here. Just a quick update. Yogurtland closed in Alhambra, CA about two years ago. The last day was 10/25/21. The space was unoccupied until now. 986 Pharmacy has taken over the Yogurtland Alhambra space at 1 E Valley Blvd, Alhambra, CA 91801. Boring replacement. The specialty pharmacy offers prescription medication, pet meds, vaccinations, and free delivery.

Yogurtland was the last froyo shop standing in Alhambra, but there are others nearby, like Yogurtland San Gabriel and Yogurtland Monterey Park.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Painful Froyo Shop Closures of 2021

Rockin' Yogurt, Santa Barbara

Fro-yo girl here. I’m usually sad when a froyo shop closes but some closures hurt a lot more than others. This year, I’d like to spend time acknowledging the closure of the following froyo shops (in alphabetical order):

Frozo's, 1000 Lafayette St Suite F, Santa Clara, CA 95050

I'm not sure when Frozo's closed exactly - it could have been in 2020. The shop was near Santa Clara University, so I'm sure the pandemic did them in. Frozo's opened in 2007 and it was the first self-serve froyo shop in the Bay Area. It was the first place I served my own froyo. I remember I got plain tart the first time. The last update to their Facebook page was in 2018 and the last Instagram post was in 2017. There were quite a few reviews in 2020 and one posted 9 months ago.

Pinkberry, 7288 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90046

Pinkberry Hollywood first opened in 2008 and closed this year. Thirteen years. It was the last location left in Hollywood. The owner of Sunset and Fuller used to own Pinkberry in La Canada Flintridge too. It was a larger location with 10 flavors on tap, more than usual.

Rockin’ Yogurt, 620 State St, Santa Barbara, CA 93101

Rockin’ Yogurt was the first tart froyo shop in town, opening in 2007 with four flavors of froyo. Later, they added crepes. It was inspired by Pinkberry, which opened in Santa Barbara in 2009. They had good froyo.

Yogurtland, 1 E Valley Blvd, Alhambra, CA 91801

Yogurtland Alhambra, on the corner of Valley and Garfield, opened in 2009 and was one of my regular Yogurtland locations. The last day was 10/25/21. It was the last froyo shop in Alhambra.

Yogurtland, 225 Primrose Rd Burlingame, CA 94010

This was my favorite Yogurtland in the area when it first opened in 2012 even though I lived closer to the one in San Francisco. I'm sad to hear it closed after 9 years.

Yogurtland, 1670 East Gonzalez Rd Oxnard, CA 93030

Yogurtland Oxnard opened in 2011. At one time, the owner had Yogurtland shops in Ventura, Camarillo, and Oxnard. The Oxnard one was the last one open in Ventura County. Sad.

Farewell, old friends. You are missed.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Alhambra, California Froyo Guide

Menchie's Alhambra

Fro-yo girl here. Alhambra, California has had its share of froyo shops, more so than most places. Both Yogurtland and Menchie’s opened locations in Alhambra. The Yogurtland location was the last froyo shop open in Alhambra.

Closed Froyo Shops & Other Places that Served Froyo
  • A Tea Yogurt, 137 W Main St., took over the Bluecherry space. I remember getting a froyo taco there. It was open from 2013-2014.
  • Bluecherry Yogurt Bar, 137 W Main St, opened as a counter-serve froyo shop in 2007. They also served yogurt drinks and non-frozen Beijing-style refrigerated yogurt. It closed in 2013.
  • CrèmeBee, 137 W Main St., took over the Splash Yogurt space in 2015. At the time, milk soft serve with fresh honeycomb, was trendy and they were the first soft serve with honeycomb shop in the area. CrèmeBee closed in 2015.
  • LOHAS Fresh Mart, 300 W Main St., Ste 120, was an upscale Asian grocery store with an in-store deli. The deli offered bento boxes, fresh juice, soy milk, smoothies, and salads. In 2016, they started offering organic froyo. They had one flavor and no toppings. LOHAS opened in 2015 and closed in 2019.
  • Menchie’s, 9 E Main St, opened in 2011 and closed quietly in 2020, during the pandemic. It was near the movie theater. This location was usually very late at putting out the new froyo flavors.
  • PinGo Yogurt, 358 W Valley Blvd, was an early counter-serve froyo shop that opened in 2007 and closed in 2009. It had a similar concept to Pinkberry. PinGo also had a shop in Arcadia.
  • Silver Spoon Yogurt Obsession, 401 W Main St., was a self-serve froyo shop. I’m not sure when it opened or closed. It may have opened in 2008.
  • Splash Tea & Yogurt, 137 W Main St., took over the A Tea Yogurt space in late 2014. It couldn’t have lasted long because Crème Bee took over in 2015.
  • Yogomo, 19 S Garfield Ave., Ste C, was a froyo shop located across the street from Alhambra High School. The shop opened in 2008 and was probably open for just a year.
  • Yogurtland, 1 E Valley Blvd, had the typical 16 self-serve froyo flavors and toppings that you’ll find at most Yogurtland locations. It was also cheaper than most YL locations in this area. The Alhambra branch opened in April 2009 and closed in October 2021.
And there you have it – the history of froyo in Alhambra, CA. The earliest froyo shops opened in 2007.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Yogurtland Alhambra Has Closed

Fro-yo girl here. I didn’t see this one coming; Yogurtland has permanently closed the Alhambra, CA location. The last day was 10/25/21. I went earlier in October. I dropped by and the Yogurtland sign behind the shop was gone. The soft serve machines had also been removed.

They posted a message on Facebook: “Thanks for all the love and support at our Alhambra store throughout the years! Unfortunately, we have permanently closed our doors as of 10/25/21. It was a pleasure to serve you.”

Sadly, Yogurtland Alhambra was the last froyo shop in Alhambra. It opened in 2009 and was my regular Yogurtland location. I’ll have to find a new Yogurtland to make my regular spot.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Free Froyo at Participating Yogurtland Locations This Week & Catering Discount

Fro-yo girl here. Some Yogurtland locations across the country (e.g., Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Texas, California) gave out free pre-packed mini froyo cups with any purchase this week. The promotion didn’t happen on the same day and not all locations participated. I went to Yogurtland Alhambra to get my free mini cup today.

Yogurtland Alhambra was closed for a few weeks, probably a month, and I hadn’t been there since early March, before the safer at home issue was ordered for Los Angeles. It’s full service now and they blocked access to the machines and have markings on the floor that tell you where to stand. The toppings bar is covered with plastic wrap. The free cup was about 6 ounces and they had plenty of flavors from which to choose.

I still haven’t encountered the new flavor that was scheduled to come out in April, Orange Blossom White Peach light ice cream. The flavor finder says it’s not available in my area. One of the YL associates mentioned another new flavor on the horizon, chai tea.

Yogurtland has also been sending promo codes for ezCater orders on weekday deliveries through June 23 and promoting Froyo It Forward, as a way to thank everyday heroes and surprise loved ones. And Real Reward members get triple points on Thursdays in May.

The codes are ONLINE10 for $10 off online catering orders of $50 or more and SPRING25 for $25 off online catering orders of $100 or more.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

New at Yogurtland Alhambra: Grab N Go Premium Upgrades

Fro-yo girl here. I’ve been going to Yogurtland Alhambra regularly, because they have peanut butter frozen yogurt. On a recent visit, I noticed a new sign that said Sweeten the Deal. Yogurtland Alhambra is now selling premium upgrades: cake pops, dipped giant marshmallows on a stick, rock sugar sticks, and cookies. The items are by the register and they’re pretty cute.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Best Swirl of 2013

Fro-yo girl here. I’ve examined all the pictures of fro-yo that I took this year and picked out my best looking froyo swirls. I had a good year of swirling. Years of practice have done wonders for my swirling skills.

My best swirl of 2013 was actually my first swirl of 2013. It’s a cup of plain tart froyo with neatly arranged toppings (chopped almonds, strawberries, granola, watermelon, blueberries) and two spoons. I swirled it at Yogurtland Alhambra. I remember the frozen yogurt texture was exceptional that night: firm, creamy, thick and smooth.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.
