Yogurtland’s No Weigh $5 Cup on Tuesday, November 13, New Butterfinger Frozen Custard, New Toppings

Fro-yo girl here. Earlier this week, Yogurtland sent an email about their upcoming No Weigh $5 Cup event on Tuesday, November 13 from 4 PM – 9 PM. The unlimited cup offer is for a 16 oz cup. I’m not sure that I’m ready to build another unlimited cup, since my freezer is still full of froyo from my last unlimited cup. It’s also not pleasant to build an unlimited cup when its crowded. But, it sounds like a fun event and they added another enticement: a new flavor, Butterfinger Frozen Custard, and new toppings, Butterfinger Bites and Peppermint Pretzels.

Yes, it’s frozen custard, not frozen yogurt (sad face). However, I’m a long time fan of Butterfinger. The best part of the Butterfinger is the crispy peanut butter center. The texture is so satisfying. While frozen custard or frozen yogurt can’t have a crispy texture, Butterfinger Bites can.

Yogurtland’s Butterfinger Frozen Custard is made with BUTTERFINGER®, of course. One ounce has 60 calories, 7g carbohydrates, and 1g protein. Their custard was very rich and super thick – like twice as thick as their frozen yogurt. The texture was smooth and while I could taste the Butterfinger (the peanut butter center), the flavor was more muted than I expected.

Menchie’s introduced a Butterfinger frozen yogurt flavor in 2016 called Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar which had more Butterfinger flavor.

Menchie’s November Feature Flavors, Holiday Cups, Gift Card Special

Fro-yo girl here. Happy November! The day after Halloween is always a very sad one, but thankfully, Menchie’s has new feature froyo flavors to look forward to – and more than the usual two per month. Their holiday promotion has begun and the flavor schedule is as follows:

  • November 1: Homemade snickerdoodle cookie, La crème brulee
  • November 16: Double espresso tiramisu, Spiced gingerbread cookie

I think I’ve had all four flavors in the past, but I had to go Menchie’s to get the new holiday cup (see the picture). It’s a cute cup, with Menchie and his friends decorating a festive giant cup of Menchie’s froyo.

The holiday gift card promotion is back. During November and December, you’ll get a $5 bonus card when you buy $25 worth of Menchie’s gift cards.

* Homemade Snickerdoodle Cookie: I quite enjoyed this flavor because it tasted like cinnamon. I’m also pumpkin spiced out, so cinnamon is a nice change but still a warm fall flavor. The texture was smooth and creamy. Recommended toppings: Chocolate shell, Heath, almonds, Nilla wafers.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

New Flavor at Yoga-urt for World Vegan Day: Pistachio Passion

Fro-yo girl here. Happy Belated World Vegan Day, November 1. Yoga-urt created a new flavor in honor of World Vegan Day: Pistachio Passion. I don’t think I know anyone without a nut allergy who doesn’t like pistachios. Mr. Froyo and I were both looking forward to the new flavor. It’s vegan, organic, kosher, probiotic, hand-crafted, and soy free like all of Yoga-urt’s flavors.

Pistachio Passion: This flavor is made with organic pistachios grown in Santa Barbara. It’s not made with a paste or puree. Yoga-urt grinds the pistachios themselves and adds it to their housemade almond/cashew base. Three kinds of nuts! Unlike other pistachio froyo, it’s full of pistachio flavor and has the added texture of the ground nuts. Mr. Froyo said it’s one of Yoga-urt’s best flavors and has so much more pistachio flavor than other pistachio froyo flavors. We both had a cup and it was so satisfying, wholesome, fresh, and just amazing. Yoga-urt recommends pairing Pistachio Passion with Strawberry Serenity, crushed pistachios, and fresh cut strawberries. I would include some granola. Or add my own pistachio baklava. Drool.

World Vegan Day is celebrated every November 1 since 1994. The Chair of the Vegan Society in the United Kingdom established World Vegan Day to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Vegan Society.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

* YOGA-URT: 1407 ½ W Kenneth Rd., Glendale, CA 91201

Unilever Launches Culture Republick, Probiotic Light Ice Cream (Review)

Fro-yo girl here. I’ve been haunting Target looking for the new Yasso Pumpkin Cheesecake flavor and walking away unsuccessful in my quest to find it for months. Today, I noticed a new offering right next to Yasso at Target. Culture Republick is a probiotic light ice cream. Since it’s probiotic, I thought of frozen yogurt. However, Culture Republick ice cream doesn’t contain Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus, so it’s not really frozen yogurt.

Target had one CR flavor during my visit, Milk & Honey. I also saw signs for two other flavors, Chocolate & Cherry and Lemon & Graham. One pint was $4.39. Milk & Honey is vanilla ice cream with swirls of honey. One pint is 440 calories, 17g protein, 4.5g total fat, 17g sugars, and 6g protein. From the flavors and the ice cream positioning, I wasn’t expecting any tang. The flavors are a little more interesting than usual, especially the Turmeric Chai & Cinnamon. Lemon & Graham also sounds worth trying.

Milk & Honey: The texture is nice – very creamy and scoopable though a bit chewy and not as rich as full fat ice cream. The honey vanilla flavor is very pleasant and mild though the honey flavor is very strong and very sweet. There aren’t that many honey swirls though, so the honey isn’t too overwhelming. It has a sweet cream aftertaste and no yogurt flavor. I’d prefer a stronger vanilla flavor. The packaging features the work of an artist, Joe Geis, @joe_geis.

According to Unilever, “Culture Republick™ is a premium ice cream with probiotics on a mission to support culture both inside and out, with a unique connection to the arts. There are currently seven unique flavors of Culture Republick premium light ice cream, which include Milk & Honey, Turmeric Chai & Cinnamon, Cold Brew & Chocolate Chip, Pistachio & Caramel, Lemon & Graham, Chocolate & Cherry, and Matcha & Fudge. In addition to the probiotics in the ice cream, each pint is designed by a different emerging artist. The brand also pledges to use 10 percent of all profits to support arts in local communities across the country, with all charitable donations made possible by the Unilever Foundation. Culture Republick is currently available at select retailers for an average retail price of $3.99 to $4.99. To find the nearest retailer and learn more about Culture Republick, visit CultureRepublick.com.”

Unilever has launched a new probiotic ice cream brand called Culture Republick, which the company claims is the first premium ice cream containing probiotics.

Each pint contains 3 billion live active cultures and is made with no artificial sweeteners. I like how a portion of the profits goes to support the arts in local communities.

Ingredients (Milk & Honey): Skim milk, cream, sugar, soluble corn fiber, honey, milk protein concentrate, less than 2% of: cornstarch, vegetable gums (guar, carob bean), monoglycerides, natural flavor, salt, lemon juice concentrate, pectin, bacillus coagulans GBI-30 6086, xanthan gum, vitamin A palmitate.

4 out of 5 stars.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Pinkberry Foodservice Program, a New Product Placement Concept

Fro-yo girl here. Several months ago, I started seeing ads on Instagram for Pinkberry’s Foodservice program. I’ve seen the ads several times.

Last year, I spotted Pinkberry being served at Clifton’s Republic in downtown LA. Clifton’s Republic, once known as Clifton’s Cafeteria, offered two flavors, original and pomegranate. Guests could help themselves to froyo and toppings for a flat rate. Clifton’s was an early adopter and now the foodservice program has been expanded.

According to the Pinkberry website, the foodservice program targets the following operator segments:

  • Businesses
  • Entertainment
  • Hotels
  • Restaurants
  • Colleges/Universities
  • Corporate Cafes
  • Health Care
  • Recreation
  • Movie Theaters
  • Retailers

The Pinkberry Canada website states that the foodservice program has no franchise fees, licensing fees, or royalties. Operators can rent, buy or brand existing ice cream machine equipment and display Pinkberry branded marketing materials. They’ll have access to a variety of flavors, including seasonal flavors and have access to marketing and dedicated support, including Pinkberry logo usage, flavor signage, point of sale design, dedicated brand design, and a strong social media presence.

One recent adopter is The Spanish Hills Country Club in Camarillo, CA. It’s a private club, so I think only members would have access to the Pinkberry machine? The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, CA also has a Pinkberry machine at the Country Cafe. You don't need an admission ticket to dine at the Country Cafe (I asked).

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.
