Dah! Organic India Style Almond Yogurt Review

Fro-yo girl here. Now you can get plant-based India-style yogurt thanks to the new Dah! line from DAHLicious. Dah! almond yogurt is dairy-free, organic, kosher, gluten-free and has 15 billion live probiotics. The yogurt is slow-cultured at a lower temperature, leading to a rich and creamy texture. There’s a full serving of almonds in every cup. They use organic whole fruits to flavor the yogurt.

I found Dah! at Bristol Farms in South Pasadena, CA. The yogurt was on sale, 3 for $5. The regular price is $2.29. Each cup is 5.3 oz. The products were introduced at Natural Products Expo West last year.

Available flavors: Plain, Alphonso Mango, Wild Blueberry, Field Strawberry, Madagascar Vanilla

Field Strawberry almond yogurt: The yogurt was thick, rich, and creamy. It tasted like almonds with a mild strawberry flavor. I liked the tanginess and texture. It wasn’t too sweet. It was comparable to dairy yogurt. Mr. Froyo liked it too. One serving is 190 calories, 14g total fat, 3g fiber, 8g sugars, and 6g protein. 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Ingredients: Organic almond milk (filtered water, organic almonds), organic strawberries, organic cane sugar, organic starch, organic locust bean gum, organic strawberry flavor, organic fruit and vegetable juice for color, organic lemon juice concentrate, live and active cultures.

Madagascar vanilla: I didn’t like this flavor as much – tanginess, almond, and vanilla might not be as complementary as tanginess, almond, and fruit. It tasted chalkier. I didn’t have any problems finishing it off but I didn’t love it. The sweet chalkiness lingered on my palate. One serving is 180 calories, 14g total fat, 3g fiber, 8g sugars, and 6g protein. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Kreation Organic Persian Yogurt

Fro-yo girl here. Kreation Organic just opened in Pasadena, CA. I thought it was just a juice shop, but it has much more than juice. The refrigerated section has cold pressed juices, almond milk, housemade yogurt, salads, meals, snacks, desserts, etc. You can also order custom juices and acai/healthy bowls with different bases, organic coffee drinks, teas, etc. They also had snacks like dried fruit, kale chips, protein/energy balls, gluten free cookies, etc.

And yes, they make their own line of yogurt, called Yogi. It’s raw, gluten free, organic, and probiotic. They come in heavy glass jars. A jar of Yogi is $7.95.

* Vanilla yogi: The vanilla flavor is mild. It tastes like cinnamon spiced almond milk. The chia seeds don’t have much flavor, but they add texture and thicken the yogurt. The yogurt itself is quite thin, so it’s like a yogurt soup. I’m not used to such runny yogurt but the flavor was definitely good and the chia seeds make it filling. It’s like a chia seed pudding that’s slightly sweet and tangy. Ingredients: almonds, chia seeds, raw honey, vanilla extract, Ceylon cinnamon, probiotics.

* Strawberry yogi: The strawberries are pureed and blended throughout the yogurt. It tasted like strawberries and honey. The flavor was sweet and slightly tangy. The texture was thin and soupy again, but thickened by the chia seeds. Ingredients: almonds, strawberries, chia seeds, raw honey probiotics.

Kreation describes their yogurt as: “The original infusion of probiotics and protein is the perfect snack! Our housemade Persian Yogurt contains the active probiotic cultures that regulate digestion, reduce the effects of lactose intolerance, and help prevent colon cancer. Packed with protein from the yogurt and chia seeds, a pot of our Persian yogurt can substitute a meal without leaving you hungry. Great for breakfast!”

Yogi flavors:

  • Vanilla
  • Strawberry
  • Mango
  • Matcha pineapple
  • Cacao almond

Yogi yogurt is tasty but different than the other yogurts that I’m used to eating. I would definitely recommend topping Yogi with fresh fruit. Kreation offers free local delivery and currently has 15 locations in Southern California.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Kite Hill Artisan Almond Milk Yogurt Review

Fro-yo girl here. I spotted Kite Hill at 365 by Whole Foods in Silver Lake (Los Angeles). It’s a line of artisan almond milk yogurt that’s traditionally cultured, soy free and dairy free. Almond milk is the leading alternative/dairy-free milk. Kite Hill makes their own almond milk from GMO-free almonds grown in California. Kite Hill also produces dairy-free cream cheese spreads and entrees.

* Plain: Thick, smooth, and creamy, a little chalky. The flavor is definitely interesting. It is sour yet tangy and tastes like almonds. It actually tastes a lot like Tofutti the soy based cream cheese, Better Than Cream Cheese. The subtle sweetness is nice. It might be an acquired taste but I think I like it. The tang and almond flavor make it intriguing.

The packaging is too flimsy. I found that the bottom of my plastic cup of yogurt had cracked on the way home from the market. Some of the product leaked out. The texture was probably thicker than usual since the liquid had drained out.

Flavors: Plain, Vanilla, Blueberry, Strawberry, Peach. The flavored yogurts are blended.

Ingredients: Almond milk (water, almonds), cane sugar, locust bean gum, xanthan gum, agar, live active cultures: S.Thermophilus, L.Bulgaricus, L.Acidophilus and bifidobacteria.

One serving is 5.3 ounces, 160 calories, 13g fat (2g saturated), 5g sugar, 6g protein. 365 by Whole Foods carries Kite Hill Yogurt for $1.69 each.

4.5 out of 5 stars
