Sweetkiwi Whipped Greek Froyo Review

Fro-yo girl here. The day I heard that Sweetkiwi Whipped Greek Froyo was being carried by Ralph’s in Southern California, I rushed over to Ralph’s to get some. A few weeks have since gone by. I’ve been to several Ralph’s locations and none of them had Sweetkiwi. It turns out that not every Ralph’s carries Sweetkiwi. I finally found Sweetkiwi at the Ralph’s in South Pasadena at 1745 Garfield Avenue. They had three flavors: Vanilla, Chocolate Hazelnut, and Cookies & Cream. One package is 14 oz. and $6.99 each (regular price) at Ralph’s.

Sweetkiwi is a certified women owned business and a minority-owned company founded by Ehime Eigbe-Akindele. Ehime founded the first frozen yogurt company in Nigeria and became the leader in that market. A few years later, she moved to Washington DC and decided to create a consumer-packaged version of froyo for grocery stores and other food retailers. The company later launched a line of granola.

Sweetkiwi starts with locally sourced milk from grassfed cows and real ingredients. Sweetkiwi is high in protein, probiotic and prebiotic, and superfood infused. You can find Sweetkiwi at Walmart, Kroger, Whole Foods, and other grocery stores.

Cookies & Cream froyo: The texture was very firm coming out of the freezer, firmer than ice cream or froyo typically is. It has a high protein taste that I’m not personally not fond of. It seemed chalky and sweet but sweet in a weird way (when the sweetness comes from more than sugar). The texture is somewhat chewy and dry. I'm surprised that it's whipped because the texture is so dense.

FYI, I tried Sweetkiwi again and it was much better! Read my updated review.

One serving is 2/3 cup, 120 calories, 1g total fat, 23g total carbs, 16g total sugars, and 9g protein. The ingredients include live and active cultures, Greek yogurt, milk protein concentrate, and a superfood blend of acerola juice concentrate, strawberry, green coffee bean extract, maqui, acai, turmeric, blueberry, broccoli, kale, and tart cherry. Wow, lots of ingredients!

Mixmi Froyo Review

Fro-yo girl here. Mixmi Froyo is a new froyo product from Mixmi Brands that launched in April. The froyo comes in a 4-pack of 4 fl oz cups and is sold at supermarkets, including Kroger, Fred Meyer, Ralph's, Smith's, Roundy's, Mariano's, Pick 'N Save, Metro Market, and HEB stores. The product is all-natural, nut-free, and probiotic, with billions of live and active probiotics. Low in calories, Mixmi Froyo also has prebiotic fiber. Mixmi Froyo is a portion-controlled, healthy snack that supports gut health.

I found Mixmi Froyo at Ralph’s in Pasadena, CA for $4.99/box. They had four flavors, including Ultimate Chocolate, Mas Mango, Totally Vanilla, and Orange Dream.

Totally Vanilla Mixmi: The froyo was dense, firm, and creamy. It tasted like vanilla ice cream rather than frozen yogurt. It was too sweet for me but I could see it appealing to many people, especially kids. The flavors they offer don’t interest me though – too mainstream. But it would be good with some Oreo cookies, chocolate shell, or chocolate chips. One serving is 90 calories, with 1.5g total fat, 14g total carbs, 11g total sugars, 3g dietary fiber, and 3g protein.

Ingredients: Milk, cultured milk, sugar, maltodextrin, soluble corn fiber (dietary fiber), natural flavors, cream, locust bean gum guar gum, tara gum

Available flavors: Ultimate Chocolate, Orange Dream, Más Mango, Mint Chocolate, Vanilla Cupcake, and Totally Vanilla

Expansion of Ralph’s Westwood Village Includes Self-Serve Froyo

Fro-yo girl here. Where can you find the largest Ralph’s supermarket in California?  The answer is Westwood Village, at the former location of Bullock’s, on the edge of the UCLA campus. This location is a monster – it looks like a merger of more than one market because one side looks different from the other.  That’s because it was expanded by 40,000 square feet in November 2014.

The Ralph’s of the future/Ralph’s 2.0 is open 24 hours and includes a several prepared food bars (including an organic salad bar), Cork & Tap wine and beer bar with flatscreen TVs, walk in wine vault, Murray’s Cheese counter, staffed sushi bar with counter dining and the Dessert Bar.

The Dessert Bar had its grand opening on Friday, June 26. The staffed area features gelato, cupcakes, a self-serve froyo bar and toppings. It’s the first Ralph’s with a self-serve  froyo bar. There are 10 flavors on tap (housed in five Electro Freeze machines) and a middle handle to swirl two side by side flavors together. The froyo is from Dannon. The flavor signs have nutritional information. The yogurt had a nice creamy, smooth texture (the same Dannon yogurt at Rite Aid, which uses Stoelting machines, was icy and gritty). They had sorbets and no sugar added options as well.

The toppings bar is smaller but they offer some healthy items like hemp seeds, pecans, almonds and fresh fruit, along with candy, cookies, marshmallows, chocolate chips and syrups (even Nutella). Froyo and toppings are 45 cents an ounce.

They’ve done a nice job with the Dessert Bar. Having it staffed helps a lot. The staff person was friendly and offered samples. Plus he kept the area clean.

This Ralph’s also has an excellent select of fresh yogurt and packaged frozen yogurt – it’s like they’re trying to carry everything.

Get two hours free parking in the parking lot with validation.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.
