Froyo Prices Continue to Rise, Pinkberry Monrovia No Longer Part of Rewards Program

Fro-yo girl here. It seems like every year, froyo prices go up (at least once). Menchie’s Eagle Rock (Los Angeles) has increased the price from $0.59/oz to $0.64/oz. It’s still cheaper than Yogurtland Eagle Rock, which charges $0.67/oz. Menchie’s Eagle Rock was the cheapest self-serve place in the area. They charged $0.59/oz all of 2022.

Meanwhile, Pinkberry in Monrovia, CA is charging a $7 for a small froyo with toppings. Ouch. But Pinkberry Northridge and Studio City are even more expensive. Three years ago, a small without toppings was under $4, with $1.50 for unlimited toppings. The unlimited toppings became up to 4 toppings about two years ago, with an extra charge for the pizzelle cookie. The pizzelle cookie wasn’t extra before.

Also, Pinkberry Monrovia no longer participates in the PinkCard rewards program. Sad. They didn’t tell me about it when I mentioned wanting points.

Even the Pinkberry vending machine at The Shops at Santa Anita increased the price of a cup of froyo from $5 to $6 recently.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

New Pinkberry Summer Froyo Flavor: Lava Swirl

Fro-yo girl here. I’ve been enjoying Pinkberry’s Strawberry Shortcake froyo quite often and I’m a bit sad to see it go but it’s time for a new Pinkberry flavor. Pinkberry has just introduced the new Lava Swirl froyo and smoothie. This limited time flavor is available in participating stores until August 18.

The Lava Swirl flavor was inspired by the Lava Flow cocktail. I might be in the minority but I didn’t know about the Lava Flow cocktail. It’s a tropical Hawaiian cocktail made with made with rum, strawberries, pineapple, and coconut cream. It's layered and looks like a volcano, with the red layer covered by the white layer. Pinkberry’s version is non-alcoholic; it has strawberries, pineapple, and coconut. They recommend topping it with pineapple, coconut shavings, strawberry puree, and whipped cream.

Lava Swirl froyo: I wasn’t sure if I’d like this flavor. Fortunately, I did. It reminded me of Pinkberry’s Strawberry Shortcake froyo only with a touch of coconut cream. The strawberry flavor hit me first and then it was finished with the flavor of coconut cream. The froyo was tangy and seemed a little creamier than usual. Recommended toppings: strawberries, pineapple, mango.

FYI, get double points on your Pinkberry purchase from June 1 - June 5.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

International/National Frozen Yogurt Day 2018 Recap

Fro-yo girl here. How much froyo can I possibly eat in one day? That’s what I wondered when I learned that so many shops were celebrating International/National Frozen Yogurt Day on February 6.
Yogurtland is clearly the most excited about IFYD – with the special IFYD cups, 2 new flavors (see my earlier post for a review of Chocolate Malt Ball Ice Cream and Chocoate Wafer Bar Froyo), new toppings, Hershey’s IFYD spoons, and a coupon. The cup design even matched the new froyo flavors and new toppings. Talk about being overachievers!

Each guest received a 5 oz cup to fill up. I had to wait so long for toppings that I forgot to look for the Kit Kats and Whoppers. I’m pretty sure that I saw Whoppers. The coupon is for $1 off.

My shop was organized as usual, though guests took forever to choose toppings. Yogurtland Pasadena Lake Ave. employees and the owner are so friendly and kind.

Menchie’s had an all day buy one, get one free offer but no new flavors or cups. I guess there are no new promotional flavors for February? They did have some Paddington Movie signs. I didn’t get a coupon this year. However, I do like that they had the NFYD posters and also a handwritten chalkboard sign announcing the NFYD offer.

Pinkberry had a BOGO offer on Original Tart with toppings for Pinkcard holders good all day on Feb. 6. I was surprised to see no signs at the shop. Pinkcard holders were notified via email. The shop looked the same with no visible acknowledgement of NFYD. I wasn’t told about the offer when I pulled out my Pinkcard. But there was a nice surprise waiting for me via email, the surprise gift from Pinkberry, 3 free swirls.

Thank you to all the froyo shops that celebrate International or National Frozen Yogurt Day! Special thanks to Yogurtland, Yogurtland Pasadena (Lake Ave!), Menchie’s, and Pinkberry.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.
