Noosa Delights Review

Fro-yo girl here. Noosa Yoghurt just launched a new line of snacks featuring creamy Noosa whole milk yoghurt and a sweet bottom layer. The flavors are: Key Lime Pie, Strawberry Cheesecake, Coconut Cream Pie, Brownie Batter. The flavors sound indulgent.

I spotted Noosa Delights at Pavilions in South Pasadena, CA. They were priced at 2 for $4. Each cup is 4.5 oz, smaller than the typical yogurt. It’s also more expensive than the regular Noosa Yoghurt 4.5 oz cup.

Pavilions in South Pasadena had three of the flavors. Coconut Cream Pie was missing.

Key Lime Pie yoghurt: The texture was different – it’s a blended yogurt and was more like a pot set style than the typical Noosa yoghurt. The key lime pie yoghurt was delicious – very tangy and creamy with lots of key lime flavor. I didn’t understand or appreciate the bottom layer, which is a brown gelatin that’s graham cracker flavored. It didn’t look appealing but it tasted fine. Crunchy graham cracker crust pieces would be so much better than graham cracker gelatin. I also wasn’t certain if I should mix the contents or not. I did mix it because I didn’t want to see the brown gelatin. One serving is 190 calories, 8g total fat, 24g total carbs, 21g total sugars, and 5g protein.

Strawberry Cheesecake yoghurt: This was sweeter than the Key Lime Pie but was also blended and had a pot set texture with a layer of graham cracker gelatin on the bottom. I could see bits of strawberry and there was a hint of cream cheese and cinnamon. One serving is 160 calories, 6g total fat, 22g total carbs, 20g total sugars, and 5g protein. I preferred the Key Lime Pie flavor. The strawberry cheesecake tasted too sweet (even though it has less sugar).

Noosa Delights yoghurt is tasty, because Noosa is so good, but the graham cracker bottom is strange. I’d rather have regular Noosa, unblended.

4 out of 5 stars.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Noosa Frozen Yoghurt Gelato Review

Fro-yo girl here. I remember when I read that Noosa was considering launching froyo. That was five years ago and they’ve finally launched their first froyo! It should be available nationwide by summer 2022. The initial reviews have been positive.

Noosa yoghurt gelato is made with whole milk, real fruit, probiotics, and no artificial flavors.

It’s sold in 14 oz tubs (at first I thought they were pints but they’re smaller than pints). My local Vons had all four flavors for $5.99 each. The product is meant to be over-the-top decadent but with live active cultures.

Honey Vanilla Bean: Thick, rich, and creamy, Honey Bean Vanilla is studded with lots of vanilla bean specks. The honey is not evenly distributed but it’s not sticky or super sweet either. Noosa’s Honey Vanilla Bean eats like a honey vanilla ice cream. You can taste the vanilla and a hint of honey. It’s pretty sweet and isn’t tangy like Noosa Yoghurt. One 2/3 cup serving is 220 calories, 10g total fat, 28g total carbs, 28g total sugars, and 4g protein.

Strawberries & Cream: Strawberries and cream has bits of strawberries and is also thick, rich, creamy, and dense. I liked how the strawberries gave it a little tang. It’s also as sweet as ice cream. Surprisingly, it does not have honey (Noosa Yoghurt has honey). One 2/3 cup serving is 230 calories, 10g total fat, 31g total carbs, 30g total sugars, and 4g protein.

Available flavors: Chocolate Fudge, Honey Vanilla Bean, Sea Salt Caramel, Strawberries & Cream

There’s a bit of a disconnect between Noosa’s yoghurt gelato and their regular yoghurt. The honey is missing (except for Honey Vanilla Bean) and so is the yogurt tang. Instead, these yoghurt gelatos are like ice cream. The first ingredient is cream. That’s not to say that they aren’t good but they don’t have a strong yogurt taste.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

New Noosa Mates Review

Fro-yo girl here. Noosa Yoghurt recently expanded its offerings with a new line called Noosa Mates. Noosa Mates pair Noosa’s creamy full fat yogurt with toppings. The toppings are kept in a separate compartment. I found Noosa Mates at Target for $2.39 each. One serving is 5.5 oz, so it’s smaller than the typical Noosa container.

Available flavors: Banana Chocolate Peanut Butter, Honey Pretzel Peanut, Coconut Almond Chocolate, Maple Ginger, Honey Cranberry Almond.

* Honey Pretzel Peanut: The honey yogurt was thick, smooth, and creamy. The honey flavor is very prominent, to the point that it overwhelmed the flavor of Guittard chocolate bits. I could taste the peanuts and pretzels. It felt like there weren’t enough toppings. The toppings were good and complemented the yogurt but I wasn’t wowed. I did like the yogurt.

* Maple Ginger:
This featured maple yogurt with crunchy granola, gingersnap streusel and candied ginger. The maple yogurt tasted quite similar to the honey yogurt but with a hint of maple. The granola was in small clusters. One serving was 240 calories, 9g fat, 32g carbohydrates, 24g sugars and 8g protein.

I like Noosa and while there was nothing wrong with Noosa Mates, I found the combinations predictable and safe. I think the toppings should be more interesting and that there should be a wider base of yogurt flavors.

4 out of 5 stars.

Noosa Yoghurt New Sweet Heat Flavors Review

Fro-yo girl here. I started seeing teaser ads about new flavors from Noosa on Twitter recently. The new flavors are part of the new “sweet heat” collection: Raspberry Habanero, Pineapple Jalapeno, Mango Sweet Chili, Blackberry Serrano, Mexican Chocolate (4 oz 4 packs only) and Bhakti Chai (limited batch).

I’ve looked for all the new flavors at Vons, Sprouts, Target, Whole Foods, and Gelson’s. I haven’t spotted Raspberry Habanero or Mango Sweet Chili yet. Target had the best selection of Noosa flavors.

* Blackberry serrano: The blackberry compote is on the bottom, so you can blend it in as much as you’d like. The yogurt smells like serrano chilies and it tastes like serrano chilies too. It’s spicier than I expected but of course yogurt is cooling, so it can handle some heat. The yogurt is thick and velvety. The blackberry compote had blackberry seeds and though the seeds were hard, they added a nice texture. The flavor is definitely different, sweet yet spicy, but it’s really good and it’s still mostly sweet. One serving has 36g of sugar and 300 calories.

* Pineapple jalapeno: This was a pretty spicy and pretty sweet yogurt as well. The pineapple flavor is also strong. This is one flavorful cup of yogurt. I liked the blackberry serrano flavor better. I liked the tartness of the blackberry.

* Bhakti chai (limited batch): Unlike the other Noosa flavors, there is no compote. It looks like they poured a cup of Bhakti Chai on top of their honey sweetened yogurt. The honey flavor seemed more pronounced than usual and the warm spices included cardamom, cinnamon, ginger and clove (possibly others). It’s very sweet but the yogurt is still tangy. The texture is rich, creamy and smooth. One serving has 11g fat, 34g of sugar, 300 calories and 8 ozs.

The Noosa yogurts are very flavorful and velvety but they’re also very sweet. I do like the unusual flavors and I hope to find all the flavors in the near future.

I found Noosa on sale at Target for $2. The regular price is $2.39-$2.59.

4.5 out of 5 stars

Yulu Aussie Yogurt Review

Fro-yo girl here. Yulu Yogurt is a new “Aussie style” yogurt brand introduced earlier this year by Colorado based, WhiteWave Foods. The yogurt is “double smoothed” and inspired by an Australian recipe. The yogurt is full fat and all natural. Each cup is 5.3 ounces and 170-180 calories.

I found Yulu at Von’s for $1.99 each. I tried two flavors.

Vanilla bean: The texture was smooth, creamy and slightly whipped, making it lighter/less dense than your usual Greek yogurt. The vanilla bean specks were visible. The yogurt was less sweet and even a bit sour but the aftertaste wasn’t clean (look at all that they add to it, the locust bean gum is bitter). It’s all natural but it didn’t taste clean/pure.

Blueberry: The blueberry puree was at the bottom. The texture was whipped and smoothed. The blueberry puree made the bitterness less pronounced; it tasted better than the vanilla.

Available flavors: Blueberry, Honey, Raspberry, Strawberry, Vanilla Bean

Ingredients (Blueberry): Cultured grade A milk, cream, cane sugar, blueberry puree, milk protein concentrate, corn starch, whey protein concentrate, natural flavor, honey, agar, pectin, locust bean gum, fruit and vegetable juice concentrate (for color), live and active cultures.

If you're looking for a better tasting Aussie style yogurt, try Noosa.

3.5 out of 5 stars.

Spotlight on BOOM Yogurt Bar in Boulder, CO

Fro-yo girl here. While I haven’t had the privilege of visiting BOOM Yogurt Bar, it sounds like a special place that emphasizes healthy, natural toppings, organic fresh fruit, and locally made yogurt and granola. Unlike most fro-yo places, you won’t find sugary mass produced toppings like Cap’n Crunch and Nerds candy. They plan on opening a second location in Lowry Town Center beginning of May.

* BOOM YOGURT BAR: 3303 30th St., Boulder, CO

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Here’s more information about BOOM from their press release:

BOOM Yogurt Bar is all about LOCAL

Boulder, CO Jan 24, 2012 – BOOM Yogurt Bar, opened its door mid-September with a focus on community and locally-made yogurts, oatmeal, and toppings. Since opening, BOOM has expanded its menu to include more local companies.

BOOM Yogurt Bar is the new generation of the yogurt-craze in a relaxing, inviting gathering space. Inspired by years of international yogurt eating of Boulder’s 2008 Olympian Matty Reed’s global athletic pursuits, BOOM provides a healthy experience with a local twist.

Recently BOOM Yogurt became the first ever to create and tap both a mix1 and a Muscle Milk frozen yogurt. These new frozen yogurts have added proteins to the natural probiotic yogurts.

“It is always great to find complementary local brands to partner with. We are excited to work with BOOM and create some fun new ways to connect with the boulder community,” Peter Archer, mix1 Marketing Manager Colorado said.

Boom’s goal of bringing the community together continues as they have recently added Boulder EVOL Foods burritos and Dizzy’s Donuts, both local creations.

“We wanted to bring together local companies and create a “bar”, a place where people can go, grab some healthy food and treats, locally made, and feel comfortable and relax,” said Kelly Reed, co-owner. “We don’t want to be just the normal fro yo shop. We want to take it to the next level.”

The BOOM Yogurt Bar menu features natural frozen yogurt (with probiotics) slow cooked oatmeal, Noosa Yoghurt, greek yogurt, a non-dairy yogurt, various purees from Noosa, fresh fruit, fresh mochi, chocolates from local company Concertos in Chocolate.

“Noosa Yoghurt is very excited to work with other Colorado based companies, especially companies providing fresh quality product to Coloradoans,” Paul Mathewson, from Noosa Yoghurt said. “This is Noosa's ethos and we love to align to similar minded companies such as Boom.”

“BOOM offers food that is good for the body, fuel for the day. We open at 7:30 on weekdays and 10:00 in the morning on weekends so that people can fuel up for the day.” Reed said. Breakfast offerings are available all day.

BOOM’s effort to gather the community is shown in its BOOM ROOM, a 30 person gathering room, which can be reserved for birthday parties, get-togethers, book clubs, business meetings and more. The room offers seating, table space, bar seating, television, AV-equipped, and most of all a modern, earthy feel.

BOOM Yogurt Bar is also working with local organizations such as the Young Rembrandts, Clementine Art Studio, local artists, musicians and designers, as well as many clubs in Boulder to offer them a free place to hold classes, meetings and parties. BOOM is currently featuring artwork by Will Day, a Boulder artist.

BOOM also delivers for parties, mid day office cravings and special events.

Noosa Yoghurt Review

Fro-yo girl here. Noosa Yoghurt is an Australian style yoghurt, made with Australian yogurt cultures and Colorado dairy. It’s a thick, tangy, all natural yoghurt available in six flavors: honey, blueberry, mango, raspberry, strawberry rhubarb and peach. A tub is 8 ounces.

* Honey yoghurt: thicker, creamier and richer than the Greek yogurt I’ve had, almost cheesy, the Colorado honey is delicious, the flavor is very tangy, the cheesiness was a bit odd. It’s not non-fat.

I found Noosa at QFC for $2.39. It’s currently not available in the Bay Area. You can find the locations that carry Noosa by visiting their website.

4 out of 5 stars.
