Morinaga Yogurt Caramel Review

Fro-yo girl here. I found a new yogurt candy at Nijiya Market in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles. Morinaga Yogurt Caramel is imported from Japan. One box is 2.07 oz with 12 individually wrapped square caramels. This flavor is limited edition. Nijiya was selling Morinaga caramels for $2.19 a box.

One serving (the entire box) is 241 calories, 4.5g total fat, 34g sugars, and 47g total carbohydrates.

The caramel was soft, creamy, and chewy. It had a tangy sweet yogurt flavor that reminded me of Yakult. I like firmer caramels. It seemed cloyingly sweet to me.

Ingredients: Sugar syrup, sweetened condensed milk, sugar, sweetened defatted condensed milk powder, vegetable oil, hydrolyzed wheat protein, butter, concentrated yogurt, sorbitol, citric acid, artificial flavor, soy lecithin

3 out of 5 stars.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Sugiotoya Puru Mocchi (Yogurt Gummy Candy) Review

Fro-yo girl here. I found another yogurt flavored candy, while shopping at Nijiya Market in San Francisco.

Sugiotoya Puru Mocchi is imported from Japan. It’s a gummy candy. One bag is 40g, 130 calories, 0g fat, 34.4g sugars. Nijiya was selling Puru Mochi for $2.49 a bag. There were two other flavors: grape and Mandarin orange; these were not yogurt flavored. I’ve never had Puru Mocchi candy before.

* Puru Mocchi yogurt gummy candy: The bag contains 8 small individually wrapped cubes. Each cube is coated in flavored fine sugar. The texture is firm but not too firm and chewy, like mochi/glutinous rice. The yogurt flavor tastes like Yakult. It’s sweet and tangy. It really is like mochi but more jelly like. It’s not bad but I don’t like Yakult. I did like the texture.

Ingredients: Starch syrup, sugar, pasteurized lactic acid beverage, glutinous rice flour, potato starch, glutinous rice, lactic acid, D-sorbitol, gelling agent (polysaccharide thickener), citric acid, stabilizers (modified starch), flavors, emulsifiers

What's interesting is that the bag of candy has 1 billion yogurt cultures.

3.5 out of 5 stars.

Yogurt Candy Review: Kanro Candemina

Fro-yo girl here. I found another Japanese yogurt flavored candy while shopping at Nijiya. Kanro’s Candemina comes in a sealable pouch and it’s labeled as a soft candy.

The candy looks wavy and is a firm and very chewy gummy. It is tangy because of the sour powder coating but it tastes like a children’s chewable vitamin. The gummy part is sweet. I would like it better if it didn’t taste like chewable vitamins.

Ingredients: sugar, corn syrup, polydextrose, gelatine, dextrin, sweetened condensed milk, whole milk powder, acidulant, artificial flavor, starch, calcium carbonate, acesulfame potassium

One 1.48 oz. pouch of Candemina is $1.99 at Nijiya Market. You can buy it online from jbox.

3 out of 5 stars.

Kanro Pure Gummy Yoghurt & Mango Japanese Candy Review

Fro-yo girl here. I found another yogurt flavored candy at Nijiya Market and this one’s pretty new. Kanro Pure is a line of chewy gummy candies.

* Yoghurt & Mango Gummy: These heart-shaped candies are adorable. They’re flat and firm. I liked the texture - it was firm and chewy without being too chewy. The hearts are coated in sugar. The flavor seemed good at first. They tasted quite tangy and like Yakult. The fruit/mango flavor is very faint. However, the aftertaste is artificial and reminds me of a children’s chewable vitamin. Children’s chewable vitamins taste okay but I don’t want my candy to taste like a vitamin.

One pouch is 1.62 ounces and $1.79.

Ingredients: sugar, corn syrup, gelatine, milk powder, concentrated mango juice, acidulant, pectine, artificial flavor, ascorbic acid, cartotenoid color

3 out of 5 stars.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Yogurt Candy Review: Glico Gummy & Yogurt Candy

Fro-yo girl here. I love my Nijiya Market. Every few months I’ll find a new Japanese yogurt flavored candy in the candy aisle. During a recent visit I found Glico Gummy & Yogurt candy, which comes in a white and green with a picture of aloe resealable pouch. There’s very little English on the package so I’m not even sure what the ingredients are. Luckily, the flavor is listed in English.

The cube is firm like a jelly with two layers. The texture is softer on top and chewier on the bottom. So the bottom layer is probably the gummy layer and the top is the yogurt aloe gel. The cube is covered in sugar. The top layer is very sweet but also very tangy, like a tangy aloe drink flavor. The bottom layer is sweet without much flavor. I liked both the texture and the flavor. It’s not exactly the sour kind of gummy that I like but it is quite tangy and flavorful.

A bag of Glico Gummy & Yogurt candy is $1.99. It looks like this candy comes in other flavors (Strawberry Yogurt, Blueberry Yogurt) but I didn’t see those at my Nijiya.

4 out of 5 stars.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.
