Boba Ice Cream Bars Review: I-MEI Ceylon Milk Tea Boba Ice Bar

Fro-yo girl here. It’s been awhile since I had a boba ice cream bar. The I-MEI Ceylon Milk Tea Boba Ice Bars seem to be fairly new. I spotted them at 168 Market and 99 Ranch Market in San Gabriel, California. One box contains four individually wrapped bars weighing 80g each. 99 Ranch was selling the box of I-MEI Ceylon Milk Tea Boba Ice Bars for $7.99, regular price. I-MEI is a Taiwanese brand and the ice bars are a product of Taiwan.

I-Mei Ceylon Milk Tea Ice Bar: The ice bar is smaller. It had lots of boba. I encountered a few boba in every bite. The tapioca balls were very sweet, soft, and chewy. The bar was creamy and milky with a strong tea flavor. The bar seemed super sweet and the balls were even sweeter. One bar is 140 calories with 5g total fat, 22g total carbs, 15g total sugars, and 1g protein.

I think I’m getting tired of boba ice cream bars because they’re too sweet. I wouldn't order a boba milk tea at regular sweetness either.

3.5 out of 5 stars.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

I-Mei Brown Sugar Pearl Milk Ice Cone Review

Fro-yo girl here. I’ve tried quite a few boba ice cream bars (different brands, different flavors) and some boba ice cream (scoopable), but I-Mei’s Brown Sugar Pearl Milk Ice Cone is the first boba ice cream cone that I’ve found. I spotted I-Mei’s ice cones at 168 Market in Alhambra, CA. One 11.29 oz box comes with 4 individually wrapped ice cones. A box was selling for $6.99 on sale, $7.99 regular price.

Brown Sugar Pearl Milk Ice Cone: The cone had a flat top with a layer of brown sugar on top, creamy ice cream underneath, chocolate around the outside of the ice cream part of the cone and inside the cone, tapioca pearls (boba) in the ice cream, and a sugar cone. I found it too sweet, sweeter than the boba ice cream bars. The brown sugar syrup top was very sweet and the ice cream was creamy and very sweet. The boba pearls were soft and chewy but they also seemed sweeter. The sugar cone was thin and not very crispy. There was no tea flavor. One cone is 220 calories, 8g total fat, 35g total carbs, 21g total sugars, and 2g protein. I would not get these again.

3 out of 5 stars.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

I-Mei Milk Ice Bars from Taiwan

Fro-yo girl here. I found I-Mei’s Green Tea & Red Bean Milky Ice Bar and Red Bean Milk Ice Bar at 99 Ranch Market in Arcadia, CA. They were on sale, 2 boxes for $7 (regular price, $4.89 per box). These aren’t boba bars but I like them better than boba bars. Each box comes with 5 individually wrapped bars, imported from Taiwan.

Red bean milk ice bar: If you’ve ever had Chinese red bean milk, this bar will taste familiar. The ingredients are similar – water, red beans, sugar, milk. One bar is 88g, 160 calories, 6g total fat, 23g total carbs, 11g total sugars, and 5g protein. If you like red bean milk drinks, you’ll like the red bean milk ice bar. It was firm and on the icier side but not watery. I liked how it was packed full of sweet whole red beans. It was sweet but not crazy sweet and the iciness made it refreshing. 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Green tea & red bean milky ice bar: So good. I love green tea, red bean and the combination of the two. Half the bar was sweet cream flavored and the other half green tea with tiny pieces of red bean. The bar was softer and creamier than the red bean ice milk bar. I could definitely taste the green tea and red bean, plus the two sides were complementary. So good! I'm getting more of these. One 88g bar had 180 calories, 9g total fat, 21g total carbs, 20g total sugars and 3g protein. 5 out of 5 stars.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Brown Sugar Boba Ice Cream Bars Review

Shao Mei & I-Mei boba ice cream bars

Shao Mei bar

I-Mei bar

Fro-yo girl here. I first heard about boba ice cream bars last year. They kept selling out, so I didn’t track any down. Fast forward a few months and the boba ice cream bars are now easier to find. I found three different brands at 99 Ranch Market in Alhambra, CA. No, they don’t contain yogurt.

Shao Mei is the most popular boba ice cream brand. A rival brand, I-Mei, produces a similar product. Both are Taiwanese brands. I-Mei calls their product Brown Sugar Pearl Milk Ice Bar. Both offer 4 individually wrapped bars per box. They were even priced the same, $7.99/box.

Shao Mei Brown Sugar Boba Ice Cream Bars: The bar had a deep brown marbled appearance and a prominent brown sugar scent. The first bite surprised me with contrasting flavors and textures. The exterior was an icier brown sugar shell. The interior was white, rich, milky, and creamy. I also bit into a boba which was sweet, soft, and chewy. The tapioca pearls were chewier than I expected. The flavors meld together in your mouth like a sip of a creamy brown sugar boba drink. I didn’t detect any tea flavor. Still, I really enjoyed the different textures and flavors. Yes, I would buy them again. One bar is 154 calories, 5g total fat, 16g total sugars, 25g total carbs, and 1g protein.

I-Mei Brown Sugar Pearl Milk Ice Bars: The bar had a lighter brown marbled exterior. The brown sugar flavor wasn’t as strong and tasted more like caramel than brown sugar. The interior wasn’t as creamy as Shao Mei’s. The bar was firmer and chewier because it had a lot more boba. The tapioca pearls were chewy and soft, though not as soft as Shao Mei’s. Also, Shao Mei’s bars were more flavorful. One bar is 160 calories, 5g total fat, 17g total sugars, 27 total carbs, and 1g protein.

I’d give Shao Mei 4.5 out of 5 stars and I-Mei 4 out of 5 stars. They’re both good!

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.
