Yogurtland’s Unusual Year

Fro-yo girl here. Yogurtland has been celebrating 20 years this year with a free froyo giveaway, 20th anniversary spoons, 20th anniversary stickers, 20% off for Real Rewards members every 20th of the month, and more.

Celebration aside, the things that I expected to happen at Yogurtland at the beginning of the year didn’t happen.

Yogurtland usually starts the new year with new flavors. But this year, they haven’t introduced a new flavor yet. It’s so unusual for Yogurtland to not have a new flavor introduction for this long.

The local Yogurtland branches usually raise prices in January. They didn’t do it this year for the first time that I can think of. They also used to send coupons once a quarter in the mail, but this year, I haven't received any coupons.

Yogurtland also changed PR agencies in January, switching from Bolt PR to Konnect Agency.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Pinkberry’s New Spring Froyo Flavor, Mango Passion Jasmine

Fro-yo girl here. Pinkberry just dropped its new spring flavor, Mango Passion Jasmine froyo. They recommend topping it with mango, kiwi, and passion fruit boba.

Mango Passion Jasmine froyo: It was surprisingly tangy and not as sweet as I expected. I could taste the mango and the passionfruit, but not the jasmine. Maybe there was a floral undertone, but I’m not sure. The texture was light and smooth, but less creamy than their pomegranate froyo. I couldn’t taste the yogurt either. It was more like a sorbet. I wonder how different Mango Passion Jasmine froyo is from their other flavor, Passion Mango froyo. I haven’t had Passion Mango froyo since 2018, so I’m not sure. Recommended toppings: mango, raspberries, and a buttery waffle cookie.

Pinkberry also has a new crushed tea.

I’ve noticed a trend where some of the “new” Pinkberry flavors taste like older Pinkberry flavors. The Blueberry Lavender froyo tasted like the older Blueberry flavor. Green tea lemonade froyo tasted like the older Green Tea flavor. Island Mango froyo tasted like the older Mango froyo.

Mango Passion Jasmine froyo and the new crushed tea are available for a limited time at participating US Pinkberry stores.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Future Froyo Shop: Go Greek Larchmont

Fro-yo girl here. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen one of these froyo opening soon signs in Los Angeles. Go Greek Yogurt is taking over the former home of Holey Grail Donuts in Larchmont Village at 148 N Larchmont Blvd. It will be the only froyo shop in Larchmont Village. You can get hard scoop froyo at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams across the street. There’s also a Bacio di Latte and Salt & Straw nearby. Salt & Straw has been offering scoopable froyo flavors this year. If you want juice or acai in Larchmont, there’s an Oakberry, Kreation Juicery, and Pressed Juicery (which carries plant-based Freeze soft serve).

Larchmont Village used to have a Pinkberry and an independent shop called Twirl. Twirl closed ten years ago.

Yogurtland 20th Anniversary Spoons

Fro-yo girl here. I was at Yogurtland collecting my 20th anniversary raspberry giant spoons when I spotted the new regular size Yogurtland 20th anniversary raspberry spoons. They look identical to the giant raspberry spoons. I found out later that the regular size 20th anniversary spoons also come in green.

The anniversary spoon is topped with the number “20” and a picture of a Yogurtland froyo cup inside the zero. It also says years under the 20 and Yogurtland on the handle. On the back, it says 20 Years of Love, Joy & Hope.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Gelatys Mini Gems Blueberry Yogurt Review

Fro-yo girl here. Sprouts just added Gelatys Mini Gems to the freezer section. Mini Gems are mini gelato pops. They’re available in five flavors, including one yogurt-based flavor, Greek Yogurt with Blueberry and White Chocolate. A box of four mini pops is $8.99 regular price. I found them on sale for $7.99/box.

Greek Yogurt: The plain yogurt gelato pop had a drizzle of blueberry sauce and was enrobed in Belgian white chocolate. There was very little blueberry sauce. The Belgian white chocolate shell was thin and crispy. The sweetness of the white chocolate didn’t complement the tartness of the plain yogurt. It detracted from the yogurt flavor. The yogurt was slightly tangy with a light, somewhat creamy texture (it wasn’t super creamy). It did taste like yogurt. The pop was about 2.5 inches high and 2 inches in length. One 45g mini pop is 140 calories, 10g total fat, 10g total carbs, 9g total sugars, and 2g protein. It’s made with Greek yogurt and heavy cream.

Available flavors:

  • Passion Mango
  • Strawberry Chocotella
  • Pistachio Chocotella
  • Chocolate Volcano

The Gelatys full-size gelato on a stick Blueberry Yogurt was much better. I’ve had a hard time finding it recently.

3.5 out of 5 stars.

Yogurtland Giant 20th Anniversary Spoon Giveaway

Fro-yo girl here. With the new Yogurtland 20th anniversary raspberry giant spoon drop today, I’m starting to feel like they’re finally celebrating the special milestone properly. The froyo giveaway was also a nice touch because froyo giveaways are so rare nowadays. They remind me of the days when Yogurtland gave out free froyo for National Frozen Yogurt Day.

Back to my froyo spoon collection, the Yogurtland raspberry 20th anniversary giant spoon is free with every $15 minimum in-store purchase, with a maximum of 2 spoons per transaction, while supplies last.

The anniversary spoon is about a foot long, topped with the number “20” and a picture of a Yogurtland froyo cup inside the zero. It also says years under the 20 and Yogurtland on the handle. On the back, it says 20 Years of Love, Joy & Hope.

The 20th anniversary spoon and the platinum spoon are the only Yogurtland giant spoons with special designs.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

‘ndulge Greek Yogurt Bars Review

Fro-yo girl here. I found ‘ndulge Greek Yogurt Bars during a recent trip to Sprouts. The line of Greek yogurt bars is new to Sprouts. Each box has three full-size (3 fl oz) bars. A box is $9.99, regular price.

The bars are individually wrapped. Each bar has 10g of protein and is 160 calories or less. The bars are made with milk and cream and have live and active probiotic cultures.

Vanilla Almond bar: The milk chocolate coating wasn’t as crispy as usual. It was softer and fudgier. It mostly tasted like milk chocolate because the vanilla yogurt interior had little flavor. It did not taste like yogurt. I didn’t like the texture of the chocolate coating or the taste. It had a lingering sweetness from the use of monk fruit extract. If you look at the picture on the box, it has a lot more almond pieces than the actual bar. One bar is 160 calories, 11g total fat, 8g total carbs, 3g total sugars, and 10g protein.

The box says that you should let the product thaw for 5 minutes before enjoying. I didn’t read that suggestion till after I ate the bar.

Available flavors: Salted Caramel Almond, Chocolate Caramel Cookie, Vanilla Almond, Mint Chip, Chocolate Fudge Chip

2.5 out of 5 stars.

L.A. Colors Fro-Yo Lips Lip Balm

Fro-yo girl here. A fro-yo beauty product has gone viral! L.A. Colors Fro-Yo Lips is a line of colored and scented moisturizing lip balms sold at Dollar Tree for $1.25 each. The balm looks like a cup of froyo. Reviews have been positive. Some Dollar Tree locations are already out of stock, and the balms are being sold by eBay resellers.

Creamsicle: This smelled like a sweet orange creamsicle or Sunny Delight type of orange drink. The balm was peach colored. It did make my lips feel softer but didn’t color my lips. The clear cap locks in place, so it should be good for carrying around. The balm does not twist up – so you only get a small amount.

Available scents: cotton candy, creamsicle, chocolate, mint, strawberry, vanilla, coconut, watermelon

It looks like you can check the Dollar Tree website to see if the lip balms are in stock at a particular store, but I’m not sure how accurate the website is. It also doesn’t let you search by scent.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Salt & Straw Concord Grape Nut Crumble Frozen Yogurt Review

Fro-yo girl here. Salt & Straw’s new Concord Grape Nut Crumble frozen yogurt is part of the new Cereal-sly Delicious series for March. This marks the third new froyo flavor they’ve introduced this year (that’s one a month).

Salt & Straw describes Concord Grape Nut Crumble as, “Straight out of New England, we kick things off with Concord grape juice frozen yogurt. Churned with a little salt, cinnamon, and vanilla to amp up those roasty-toasty cereal notes, we fold in streaks of Grape Nut pudding (think creamy baked cereal meets cookie butter) for a rich and custardy swirl. Finally, a textured, nutty bite of housemade Grape Nut crumble, made with buttery toasted pecans, enters the mix. It’s all the crunchy, malty goodness you know and love—just a little easier on the teeth.”

Concord Grape Nut Crumble: Grape Grape Nuts froyo sounded interesting. The light purple color certainly was pretty. The froyo is packed with texture from the Grape Nuts and is thick and creamy. The Grape Nuts softened but still have some crunch. There is some tang as well, coming from either the yogurt or the grape juice, or both. It wasn’t sour. It didn’t taste like grape juice, so the grape juice seems to be mostly for the visual effect (or the tangy sweetness). I couldn’t even smell the grapes. Since I like Grape Nuts, I still enjoyed the scoop, but it needs more yogurt and grape flavor.

The Cereal-sly Delicious flavors are:

  • Pots of Gold and Rainbows
  • Snap N' Crackle Marshmallow Treats
  • Peanut Butter Brownie Cereal Puffs
  • Concord Grape Nut Crumble
  • Captain's Berried Treasure (v)

And they’re available for a limited time in March, while supplies last.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Menchie’s March Flavors & a New Collectible Spoon

Fro-yo girl here. Menchie’s just introduced the first new spoon of the year, a pink Sprinkle spoon. Sprinkle is holding a cup of Menchie’s froyo with extra sprinkles. You can even see Menchie’s head on the cup. The spoon says swirl.smile.repeat. The back of the spoon features the back of Sprinkle. These are nice big spoons. Get them before they run out.

Menchie’s featured flavors for March are Vegan Mint Chocolate Chip made with Almond Milk and the new HI-CHEW Grapefruit froyo.

HI-CHEW Grapefruit is a new froyo flavor inspired by HI-CHEW Grapefruit candy. It did taste like grapefruit but sweet like candy. Something about it tasted medicinal though. The texture was very icy, like a sorbet. The nonfat flavor is made with no artificial colors and no high fructose corn syrup. You can find HI-CHEW Grapefruit in the HI-CHEW Sweet & Sour Mix.

Vegan Mint Chocolate Chip made with Almond Milk is back for March. It’s made with no artificial flavors, artificial colors, and no high fructose corn syrup. It was creamy and thick. The mint flavor wasn’t strong.

These flavors will be available in March, while supplies last.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Barranco’s Fruit, A New Yogurt Pop-up at Smorgasburg LA

Fro-yo girl here. Barranco’s Fruit (IG @barrancosfruit) is a new vendor at Smorgasburg LA. The sign says it’s LA’s first Oaxacan-inspired yogurt pop-up. They make the yogurt from a family recipe and then add fruit and nuts to create a yogurt parfait. The yogurt tubs are $6 each and contain fruit and/or nuts and wheat. The yogurt is made with pasteurized whole milk, I believe. They only use natural ingredients.

Available flavors: pineapple coconut, blueberry strawberry, pecan, mixed, passion fruit, mango, strawberry, pecan-almond, apple, peach.

Strawberry yogurt: The yogurt with diced fresh strawberries was thick and creamy, though not as thick as skyr. I’m not sure if it is strained. I appreciated that the yogurt wasn’t sweetened. It’s naturally sweet. The strawberries weren’t sweet.

The yogurt comes with a cup of honey and a cup of crunchy toppings (pecans, puffed amaranth, puffed wheat). You can sweeten it to your liking. It's more yogurt-forward than bionico.

The yogurt parfait was a nice treat. It’s something that I could easily replicate at home though. They do make the yogurt, so that’s a plus.

Barranco’s Fruit has pop-ups at farmers markets, Smorgasburg, night markets, and swap meets.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

NYC Froyo Shops Coming Soon

Fro-yo girl here. During our visit to NYC, we also walked by the future Mimi’s in Greenwich Village. Located at 84 University Pl, it’s near NYU. The shop opened on March 2. Greenwich/West Village seems to be the place to be for froyo.

Go Greek, which first opened in Beverly Hills, CA, is also coming to NYC soon. The new storefront will be at Great Jones St. & Broadway in NOHO. Mythos Greek Frozen Yogurt also has plans to open in NYC and Myka has signs up at 159 7th Ave South near Waverly Pl.
