Yogurtland West Hollywood Grand Opening

Fro-yo girl here. Yogurtland recently opened a location in West Hollywood (8205 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood, CA 90046) and today was the grand opening celebration.

First, they opened the doors early for the VIP party (for Platinum Real Rewards members). They had a DJ and gift bags (a Yogurtland cooler bag and a Yogurtland West Hollywood t-shirt) for the first 50 guests. They gave out mini cups that you could fill with free froyo and toppings.

From 12 PM – 3 PM, the general public could enjoy free froyo and toppings. Next, they had games, raffles and prizes from 3 PM – 6 PM. Finally, guests can enjoy buy one, get one free froyo from 6 PM – midnight.

This location has a newer, more eco-friendly look. The wall of froyo looks like light wood. There are 10 self-serve flavors a day with toppings for 47 cents an ounce. It’s a smaller location but it is in a strip mall, so if you’re lucky, you might be able to find parking. Good luck!

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Pinkberry Introduces New Power Berry Froyo

Fro-yo girl here. Pinkberry just came out with a new flavor, inspired by the upcoming Warner Bros. Pictures movie, Wonder Woman. Power Berry frozen yogurt is a combination of strawberry and raspberry flavors and the recommended toppings are fresh raspberries, honey almond granola and dark chocolate crisps. The flavor is available at participating US Pinkberry stores until June 13. The film will be released on June 2, 2017.

I didn’t see any new toppings to accompany the new flavor but my local Pinkberry did have the Wonder Woman Power Berry signs.

* Power Berry frozen yogurt: I like strawberry tart and raspberry tart frozen yogurt, so I liked Power Berry. The strawberry flavor is the one that I noticed first, followed by raspberry. It was sweet, tangy, and light – not as tart as my favorite tart flavors but still good. I liked how the “yogurt” flavor was pronounced. Recommended toppings: Berries, mochi, pomegranate juice and toasted almonds.

P.S. It looks like they finally updated the Pinkcard app!

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

San Marino Gets Its First Froyo Shop, Swirlz Soft Serve Parlor is Now Open

Fro-yo girl here. This is embarrassing; a froyo shop opened in my area and I didn’t know about it until a month later. Swirlz Soft Serve Parlor (2136 Huntington Dr., San Marino, CA 91108) replaced Quenelle, the ice cream shop that sometimes had froyo flavors. Swirlz is described as “a frozen dessert parlor featuring organic and vegan options + various custards, gelato, and sorbets.”

They change flavors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the flavors can be found on their website and on Twitter, @swirlzsoftserve. The flavors that I encountered during my visit were different from the ones posted on their website on 4/18 and on Twitter. I guess the flavors hadn’t been updated. It’s a little frustrating to not find updated flavors because it should be easy to send a tweet.

The shop is small with few signs. There are eight self-serve flavors a day, a wall of toppings, refrigerated toppings and organic sauces. Some of the toppings were organic. They had mochi, cheesecake, popping boba, jellies, fresh fruit, cookie dough, brownies, nuts, cereal, sprinkles, different kinds of chocolate chips, candy, nuts, etc. A few toppings were unusual: soybeans, quinoa, and sunflower seeds. I didn’t see the price anywhere and I didn’t receive a receipt, but apparently it’s 59 cents an ounce. They also have pre-packed quarts.

Available flavors:
  • Lemon custard: Creamier and thicker but tasted like lemon candy
  • Raspberry gelato
  • Vanilla ice cream (organic)
  • Chocolate froyo (organic)
  • Coffee froyo (organic): On the icy side but it did have a strong coffee flavor and wasn’t super sweet
  • Tart froyo (organic): Not tart/tangy and pretty bland, icy
  • Tropical coconut milk
  • Dole whip pineapple
There was only one table inside but there were a couple of tables outside. They had a case for soft pretzels but no soft pretzels.

Ask to join the reward program. Once you spend $50, you get $5 off.

The new shop has more options for people with dietary restrictions. They always have vegan soft serve. So far the flavors they’ve had haven’t caught my eye and the tart froyo needs improvement.

San Marino is such a small area (2014 population of 13,423, over half of residents are Asian) with only a few businesses that it didn’t even strike me as strange that it didn’t have a froyo shop. There are plenty of froyo shops in the surrounding areas of South Pasadena, Pasadena, Alhambra and San Gabriel.

3 out of 5 stars.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Fruit Dips Premium Frozen Fruit Bars Dipped in Greek Yogurt Review

Fro-yo girl here. I spotted boxes of Fruit Dips, “premium frozen fruit bars dipped in Greek yogurt coating,” recently. Fruit Dips is manufactured by PhillySwirl. There are four flavors: Wild Blueberry, Sunny Raspberry, Tropical Mango and So Fresh Strawberry. One box has 6 pops/bars and one pop is 55g, 120 calories, 4g total fat, and 16g sugar.

* Sunny Raspberry pop: The Greek yogurt coating was a thin, smooth shell, similar to Magic Shell in texture. It had a waxy, sweet flavor that didn’t complement the raspberry fruit bar. The raspberry fruit bar didn’t have the strongest raspberry flavor but it did taste like a natural raspberry fruit bar and it wasn’t too sweet.

Ingredients: Raspberry puree, water, sugar, Greek yogurt coating (Greek yogurt powder, skim milk solids, bacterial culture, lactic acid, natural flavors), coconut oil, soybean oil, lactic acid, soy lecithin, skim milk powder), natural flavors, pectin, chokeberry juice, carrot juice, salt.

Fruit Dips are sold at Publix and retail for $3.79 a box.

3 out of 5 stars.

Yoga-urt’s New Flavor, Lavender Blossom

Fro-yo girl here. Yoga-urt introduced a new flavor on Earth Day, Lavender Blossom (with a hint of orange). The color is a beautiful pale purple. I noticed a lot of people were buying it. I did try it but to be honest, I don’t love the flavor of lavender. If I loved lavender, I’m sure I would have loved Lavender Blossom because the lavender flavor is strong. But it has some other spices in it that make it very intriguing. I think I would have preferred orange with a hint of lavender than the other way around. The texture was super thick, typical for Yoga-urt. You can really taste the quality of their product. Of course, lavender blossom is organic, vegan, kosher, gluten free, pro-biotic, and all natural.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

21 Choices Frozen Yogurt Pasadena – It’s Back

Fro-yo girl here. Pasadena froyo eaters, the day you’ve been waiting here has finally arrived. After ten long months, during which their building was being seismically retrofitted, 21 Choices has reopened as of today, April 22, 2017. The marble slabs aren’t working though, so they’re only doing soft serves this weekend.

The opening flavors are:

  • French vanilla
  • Old school chocolate
  • Simply yogurt (plain tart)
  • Princess peach
  • Circus animal cookie
  • Nutella malt
  • (Non-dairy) Peanut butter pretzel: Made with natural peanut butter, pretzels, chocolate chips and organic soy milk
  • Root beer float

I like getting the soy milk non-dairy soft serve when it’s available. It’s one of the few places to get soy based froyo. Their peanut butter flavors are great too.

The interior looked similar to what I remember. Mix-ins will be available this Tuesday.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.
