Yogurtland Flavor Quest Continues with New Flavors: Black Currant Berry Tart and Flan

Fro-yo girl here. Yogurtland’s Flavor Quest takes you to two new flavor destinations this week: France Black Currant Berry Tart (March 31 - April 27) and Spain Flan (March 31 - April 27)

Since I love tart froyo and blackcurrants (blackcurrant candy and drinks), I was most looking forward to Black Currant Berry Tart but I wound up really loving both new flavors. It’s the best batch of new Flavor Quest flavors thus far.

* Flan: rich, creamy and with an intense caramelized sugar taste, even better than the earlier Creme Brulee flavor perhaps due to the addition of sweetened condensed milk

* Black Currant Berry Tart: creamy but not heavy, combines different berry flavors (blackcurrant, raspberries, blackberries) but the black currant flavor is the strongest. It’s so hard to find black currant flavor here so I’m thrilled. It’s pretty tart/tangy. It’s like cranberry mixed with grape but brighter.

There were no new toppings today. Don’t forget to get your passport stamped. If you’ve been going every week since the Flavor Quest started, you’ll earn your fifth stamp and 5 ounces free. You’re also entered to win prizes like a Puerto Rican adventure.

Next up: Dubai Vanilla Date Shake (April 14 - May 11) and Puerto Rico Guava Sorbet (April 14 - May 11).

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

ProYo High Protein Frozen Yogurt Review

Fro-yo girl here. What happens with an active, health conscious froyo shop owner suffers a multiple arm fracture? Nathan Carey, owner of Twin Cups in Santa Barbara, CA suffered an injury that prevented him from using his hand to eat. He wanted to have protein in his diet and was dissatisfied with the high protein options available. This was the inspiration for inspired ProYo, a high protein frozen yogurt with probiotics that’s low fat, gluten free, soy free and GMO free.

ProYo comes in four flavors: Vanilla Bean, Banana Vanilla, Dutch Chocolate, Blueberry Pomegranate. Each box contains three 4 fl oz. tubes and retails for $7.49. They were on sale at Whole Foods for $5.99 a box. Each tube has 20g of protein.

* Blueberry pomegranate: I chose this flavor hoping it would be tangy and it wasn’t. I wasn’t that fond of the squeezable tube because it was hard to get all the product out of the tube and you're holding onto a frozen cold tube (a popsicle stick is neater). The texture was more ice cream like than frozen yogurt like: very creamy, heavy, and dense. I like a lighter, more refreshing frozen yogurt. It didn’t have much blueberry or pomegranate flavor but it was faintly fruity. It had a weird, slightly bitter flavor.

Ingredients: Milk Nonfat (Cultured [with] , Milk Whole, Whey Protein Concentrate, Sugar, Whey Protein Isolate, Inulin Organic, Blueberries Puree, Pomegranate Juice Concentrate, Blueberries Juice Concentrate, Flavors Natural [Including], Citric Acid, Dextrose, Beets Juice Color, Disodium Phosphate, Flavors Raspberry, Stevia Extract)

3 out of 5 stars.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Jon Donaire Greek Frozen Yogurt Cupcakes Review

Fro-yo girl here. Rich Products Corporation launched three new frozen yogurt dessert items under the Jon Donaire brand in April 2013: Strawberry Granola Bar Cake, Chocolate Bar Cake and Mixed Berry Cupcake. I haven’t seen the froyo cake but I did find the froyo cupcakes at Grocery Outlet for $2.99. The sign said elsewhere $5.99.

Jon Donaire Mixed Berry Frozen Greek Yogurt Cupcakes are “sold in a six-pack clamshell, the deliciously moist white cake filled with mixed berry flavored Greek frozen yogurt and berry flavored whipped topping is the perfect treat after a long day or to enjoy with friends any night of the week.”

Defrost the cupcakes for 20-25 minutes in the fridge and they’re ready to consume. The cupcake is an interesting mix of textures and temperatures. The white cake is light and not too sweet. The mixed berry frosting on top is creamy and soft; it’s not as sweet as your typical frosting. It’s also topped with candy bits that are chewy and very sweet (they have the texture of white chocolate). The frozen yogurt is firm, dense and not very flavorful.

The list of ingredients is intimidating (so long!) but I enjoyed the cupcake. I wish there were fewer candy bits - they aren't needed and they taste artificial.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Yogurtland Flavor Quest New Flavors: Orange Citrus Sorbet & Geneva Chocolate

Fro-yo girl here. The Yogurtland Flavor Quest takes you to two new flavor locales this week: Florida and Geneva, Switzerland. Both flavors are available while supplies last.

* Geneva Chocolate: “Inspired by the master chocolatiers of Switzerland, this flavor combines real cocoa and a hint of a delicate, light milk chocolate flavor wroth of its renowned namesake.” I’m not a chocolate froyo fan but I liked this flavor because it was so light and smooth, like Swiss milk chocolate.

* Orange Citrus Sorbet: “A flavor as bright as the Sunshine state itself, this flavor combines real Mandarin oranges, tangerines and clementines for a light, refreshing vitamin C-packed way to beat the heat.” I’m not a huge fan of sorbets because they tend to be pretty icy but this one wasn’t. It’s sweet and juicy - the flavor is more interesting and complex than straight orange

A new topping also arrived: chocolate covered almonds. They’re not the smooth ones I’m used to seeing.

Remember to pull out your Real Rewards app and collect stamps on your froyo passport. One visit equals one stamp and an entry for a chance to win a trip to Puerto Rico, a year of free froyo and Yogurtland gift cards. Limit one stamp and one sweepstakes entry per day. Five stamps earns you 5 free ounces and 10 stamps earns you 10 free ounces.

Two new froyo flavors come out on March 31: France Blackcurrant Berry Tart and Spain Flan.

St. Patrick's Day Froyo 2014

Fro-yo girl here. It's become my annual tradition to create a cup of froyo inspired by St. Patrick's Day. The cup must feature green froyo.

Here’s my St. Patrick’s Day inspired cup of fro-yo: Lucky Irish Creme and the new Geneva Chocolate froyo with mini Hershey's Kisses, almonds, mochi, (new) chocolate covered almonds, graham cracker crust, praline macadamia nuts and a green spoon from Yogurtland.

I also recently created a St. Patrick's Day Froyo Pinterest board which I'll continue to update with St. Patrick's Day inspired froyo images. Enjoy!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Healthy Choice Frozen Yogurt Bars Review

Fro-yo girl here. I’ve tried Healthy Choice Greek Frozen Yogurt cups before but this was my first time trying their frozen yogurt bars. They come in two flavors: Strawberry and Pomegranate Blueberry. One box contains six 2.5 fl oz. bars. I found the Pomegranate Blueberry flavor at Grocery Outlet for $1.99.

One bar is 90 calories with 1g of fat. The box says the bars have natural flavors and are made with yogurt cultures. It is unclear whether the cultures are live or not (it doesn’t say that they’re live and active).

* Pomegranate blueberry bar: The best thing about the bar is the light, soft, creamy texture. The exterior has a very thin icy shell. The flavor was very sweet with little fruit flavor and no yogurt tang. The flavor tastes quite artificial (I thought that this was due to artificial sweetener but it’s not) probably due to the various gums they use and/or all the processing involved. The Healthy Choice Greek Frozen Yogurt cups taste better than their frozen yogurt bars.

Ingredients: nonfat milk, sugar, pomegranate blueberry flavor [sugar, water, blueberry puree, pomegranate juice concentrate, natural flavor, phosphoric acid, black carrot and black currant juice [for color], cellulose gum, ascorbic acid, green tea powder, corn syrup, cream, maltodextrin, contains 2% or less of: milk protein concentrate, lactic acid, mono- and diglycerides, guar gum, locust bean gum, cellulose gum, cornstarch, carrageenan, calcium carbonate, vitamin a palmitate, yogurt cultures.

2 out of 5 stars.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.
