2023 Halloween Froyo Spirit Shop Award Winner Announced

Fro-yo girl here. Happy Froyo Halloween! Every Halloween, I keep my eyes open for froyo shops with Halloween spirit. I’ve been choosing the one with the most spirit since 2014. The winner could be a shop in any country. I consider the shop décor, special flavors, costume parties and events, special Halloween toppings, and more.

It’s so fun to see Halloween being celebrated in other countries. Sadly, I noticed a drop in Halloween froyo shop spirit last year and this year wasn’t that much better. While plenty of froyo shops have put up some Halloween décor, fewer shops seem to have Halloween specials this year. I also noticed that Halloween celebrations seem to start earlier each year.

The winner of the 2023 Halloween Froyo Shop Spirit Award is…SWEESH Fro-Yo in Indonesia. They created a new Halloween flavor, Butterfly Pea froyo, that they call Mud Blood. They tried to make a bloody-looking froyo.

Last year’s winner, Funky Frozen Yogurt of Norway, created a new froyo flavor, Orange & Chili, for Halloween and they had a week long generous Halloween promo, 50% off for guests in costume.

Here’s the list of previous Halloween Froyo Spirit winners:

  • 2022: Funky Frozen Yogurt (Norway)
  • 2021: Menchie’s (US)
  • 2020: Pinkberry (Japan)
  • 2019: Menchie’s (US)
  • 2018: Smile Yogurt (Hong Kong)
  • 2017: Yogurty’s (Canada)
  • 2016: Menchie’s (US)
  • 2015: Wakaberry (South Africa)
  • 2014: 16 Handles (US)
  • 2013: Menchie’s (US)

2022 Halloween Froyo Spirit Shop Award Winner Announced

Fro-yo girl here. Happy Froyo Halloween! Every Halloween, I keep my eyes open for froyo shops with Halloween spirit. I’ve been choosing the one with the most spirit since 2014. The winner could be a shop of any size in any countries. I consider the shop décor, special flavors, costume parties and events, special Halloween toppings, and more.

I have to say that I saw less Halloween froyo shop spirit this year. A couple of froyo shops that I visited recently didn’t have Halloween decorations or any acknowledgement of Halloween. Most froyo shops that are celebrating seem to be doing so with costume contests and other types of contests.

This year’s winner of the Halloween Froyo Shop Spirit Award is… Funky Frozen Yogurt of Norway. They created a new froyo flavor, Orange & Chili, for Halloween and they had a week long generous Halloween promo. Guests in costume get 50% off from 10/24 – 10/31. I noticed they had Halloween decorations at their shops too.

Last year, Menchie’s won for the fourth time. In 2021, Menchie’s had a new Halloween Spooktacular froyo spoon (Menchie dressed as Dracula), an Addams Family 2 contest and collab for 20% off your first Menchie’s DoorDash order, and they brought back Harvest Pumpkin froyo. This year they brought back Harvest Pumpkin froyo but that was the only nod to Halloween that I noticed.

Here’s the list of previous Halloween Froyo Spirit winners

2021: Menchie’s

2020: Pinkberry (Japan)

2019: Menchie’s

2018: Smile Yogurt (Hong Kong)

2017: Yogurty’s (Canada)

2016: Menchie’s

2015: Wakaberry (South Africa)

2014: 16 Handles

2013: Menchie’s

2021 Halloween Froyo Shop Spirit Award

Fro-yo girl here. Happy Froyo Halloween! Every Halloween, I love seeing froyo shops showing their Halloween spirit. There’s so much they can do: special flavors, shop decorations, Halloween froyo cakes, Halloween toppings, spooky cones, costume contests, Halloween parties, Halloween specials, and more.

Every year I also like to recognize the froyo shop (or chain) with the most Halloween spirit. Last year, the winner was Pinkberry Japan for their Monster Swirls.

This year’s winner is…Menchie’s (again). It wasn’t close. Menchie’s had a new Halloween Spooktacular froyo spoon (Menchie dressed as Dracula), an Addams Family 2 contest and collab for 20% off your first Menchie’s DoorDash order, and they brought back Harvest Pumpkin froyo. That’s a lot!

Here’s the list of previous winners

  • 2019: Menchie’s
  • 2018: Smile Yogurt
  • 2017: Yogurty’s

Halloween Froyo Shop Spirit Award 2020 Winner Revealed

Source: Pinkberry Japan

Fro-yo girl here. Happy Froyo Halloween! Halloween’s going to be a lot different this year, but I heard people are putting more effort into decorating to compensate for the absence of trick or treating? Anyway, froyo shops with Halloween spirit have been busy celebrating with special flavors (black froyo is particularly popular this time of year), costume contests, Halloween toppings, Halloween froyo cakes, and more. You can find a list of froyo shop Halloween specials and events at https://internationalfrozenyogurt.com/news/halloween-2020-froyo-specials-&-events

Each year, I like to recognize one froyo shop (or chain) for showing the most Halloween spirit. The tradition started in 2013.

After careful consideration, the 2020 award for the most Halloween spirit goes to…Pinkberry Japan. Every year, Pinkberry Japan creates a special Halloween froyo creation. This year, they chose monsters as a theme and started offered two Monster Swirls in mid-September. Each Monster Swirl comes with a monster eye and mouth. I like how they announced the Monster Swirls so early!

The previous Halloween Froyo Shop Spirit Award winners were:

2013: Menchie’s

2014: 16 Handles

2015: Wakaberry

2016: Menchie’s

2017: Yogurty’s

2018: Smile Yogurt

2019: Menchie’s

Menchie’s won the award in 2019. They had a new Halloween froyo spoon (Menchie dressed as a vampire), sponsored a Halloween spoon froyo contest, made Monster froyo cakes and had spooky Halloween inspired froyo flavors and flavor signs (Haunted Harvest Pumpkin and Sugar Cookie Spell).

Halloween 2019 Froyo Shop Spirit Winner Announced

Fro-yo girl here. Happy Froyo Halloween! I love seeing Halloween spirit at froyo shops and there’s a lot of it out there, all over the world. For example, Myfroyoland in India is having a pumpkin carving party and has flavors like Count Chocula, Spookberry, Witch’s Brew Sorbet, and Boo-tterscotch.

Each year, I like to recognize one froyo shop (or chain) for showing the most Halloween spirit. After careful consideration, the award for the most Halloween spirit goes to…Menchie’s.

Menchie’s, a multi-year Halloween spirit winner, came out with a new Halloween froyo spoon (Menchie dressed as a vampire), sponsored a Halloween spoon froyo contest, made Monster froyo cakes and had spooky Halloween inspired froyo flavors and flavor signs (Haunted Harvest Pumpkin and Sugar Cookie Spell). Sugar Cookie Spell is a new froyo flavor.

The previous winners were:

2013: Menchie’s

2014: 16 Handles

2015: Wakaberry

2016: Menchie’s

2017: Yogurty’s

2018: Smile Yogurt

Last year’s winner, Smile Yogurt in Hong Kong, creates elaborate froyo parfaits for Halloween and other holidays.

Menchie’s October Feature Flavors, Halloween Spoon & Contest

Fro-yo girl here. Boo! Menchie’s is showing plenty of Halloween spirit this month. The October feature flavors are Haunted Harvest Pumpkin, Sugar Cookie Spell, Chocolate Cream Pie frozen yogurt. Harvest Pumpkin is a returning seasonal flavor. Sugar Cookie Spell might be new but I’m not sure, since Menchie’s did have Sugar Cookie frozen yogurt in 2015 during the PAN promotion. Sometimes a returning flavor has a different name. It wasn’t available during my visit. Chocolate Cream Pie is definitely new.

* Chocolate Cream Pie frozen yogurt: Made with no artificial colors or flavors, Menchie’s Chocolate Cream Pie is lowfat and made with real California milk. I’ve never had chocolate cream pie before, so I can’t compare it to the real thing. The chocolate flavor was mild, like milk chocolate. It tasted a little like chocolate cake. There was a bitter aftertaste. The texture was smooth and creamy. I found it bland.

Update (10/9): It wasn't easy to find Sugar Cookie Spell frozen yogurt but I finally tracked it down. It did taste like sugar cookies and I found it very sweet and one-dimensional. The yogurt was also a touch icy, which didn't help.

I look forward to a new Halloween Menchie’s spoon every Halloween and they didn’t disappoint me this year. The new spoon features Menchie dressed as a vampire with a few bats on the front and Chip coming out of a pumpkin in the back. And there’s a Halloween froyo spoon contest! To enter, take a picture of Menchie’s new Spooktacular Spoon in a froyo mix and post it on Instagram with the tags @mymenchies and #menchiesspoon to enter. The prize is a $100 Menchie’s gift card. The last day to enter is Halloween.

I noticed a door decal for the new Monster Cakes. Those would be perfect for Halloween. The new cup design features Menchie’s froyo cakes. I didn’t see anything about World Smile Day, which Menchie’s has been celebrating for years. It takes place on October 4, 2019.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

And the 2018 Halloween Froyo Shop Spirit Award Goes to…

Fro-yo girl here. Happy Froyo Halloween! Halloween is my favorite holiday and during Halloween season, I’m always on the lookout for Halloween spirit at froyo shops. I’ve seen lots of Halloween froyo spirit across the world. Each year I’ll pick out a froyo shop (or froyo chain) for showing the most Halloween spirit.

This year’s winner is…Smile Yogurt in Hong Kong. While they aren’t the only froyo shop with a special Halloween froyo parfait (Yole, Freeze Frozen Yogurt, Yo Mama, and Pinkberry Japan), they’ve been creating a different Halloween froyo parfait since Halloween 2015. And they have custom toppings just for Halloween, like the Jack O'Lantern cookie. They also have special froyo parfaits for Easter and Christmas.

The previous winners were:

  • 2013: Menchie’s
  • 2014: 16 Handles
  • 2015: Wakaberry
  • 2016: Menchie’s
  • 2017: Yogurty’s

Last year’s winner, Yogurty’s, introduced three Halloween inspired NEW offerings: Dark Froyo with activated charcoal, Dark Waffle Bowl with activated charcoal, and an Orange Chocolate Drizzle that was orange colored. Very impressive.

And the Winner of the 2017 Froyo Shop Halloween Spirit Award Winner Is…

Fro-yo girl here. Happy Froyo Halloween! Halloween is my favorite holiday and during Halloween season, I’m always on the lookout for Halloween spirit at froyo shops. Each year I’ll pick out a froyo shop (or froyo chain) for showing the most Halloween spirit.

The previous winners were:

  • 2013: Menchie’s
  • 2014: 16 Handles
  • 2015: Wakaberry
  • 2016: Menchie’s

Last year’s winner, Menchie’s, introduced collectible limited time Halloween spoons (Chip and Mookie in costume). Yes! This year, they’ve brought back the same Halloween spoons as last year, and their Harvest pumpkin flavor. I have seen several Menchie’s locations with Halloween decorations, like the one in Eagle Rock (Los Angeles).

This year’s winner boasts three Halloween inspired NEW offerings: Dark Froyo with activated charcoal, Dark Waffle Bowl with activated charcoal and an Orange Chocolate Drizzle that’s orange colored. And the winner is…Yogurty’s, the Canadian, self-serve frozen yogurt chain.

I must say that I'm disappointed that Yogurtland and Pinkberry didn't bring back pumpkin froyo. At least some Yogurtland locations had candy corn as a special topping.
