Stepladder Creamery Goatgurt Review

Fro-yo girl here. Stepladder Creamery, based in Cambria, CA, makes small-batch artisanal cheeses. They also have a stall at farmers markets in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and Cambria. I found their stall at the Altadena Farmers Market.

They make goat milk yogurt, called Goatgurt, in the European style (not as thick, not strained, cream on top). The goat milk is pasteurized and contains hundreds of billions of probiotics per serving. It’s a seasonal treat that they just introduced this fall. It’s made with no hormones or antibiotics.

One yogurt was $6 for 5.3 oz or 2 for $10.

Goatgurt: It’s definitely on the thin side with a fresh, sour taste. It didn’t taste goaty or like goat milk. The aftertaste was like cream. The texture was smooth but thin. I like my yogurt to be thicker but if you like European style yogurt with a cream top, Goatgurt could be for you. Goat milk has less lactose than cow’s milk.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Evergreen Acres Goat Milk Yogurt Review

Fro-yo girl here. While browsing the yogurt section at Bristol Farms in South Pasadena, I spotted goat milk yogurt from Evergreen Acres. Evergreen Acres is a small goat farm in Tres Pinos, CA. They claim to have the “only Grade A dairy herd in California consisting mainly of Guernsey goats, bred from pedigree stock originating on the British Channel island of Guernsey.” Their milk has a high butterfat content. They also make cheese, kefir, kombucha, goat milk soap, etc. And they must have ducks because they sell duck eggs.

Bristol Farms had two products from Evergreen Acres: thick yogurt topped with cajeta and goat milk custard. One 8 oz jar is $6.99. It’s not a bad price considering that it comes from a small farm and includes a cute glass jar. The cajeta sounded too sweet, so I picked the Goat Milk Custard. There was no nutritional information provided.

Goat milk yogurt custard: It looked tasty. The yogurt custard was super thick, soft, creamy, and smooth in texture. However, it also had a grainy quality that I didn’t like. The flavor was intensely sweet yet tangy from the honey and the goat milk flavor was strong as well. It was very flavorful but too sweet. It’s like a dessert. I’ll have to add tart fruit to be able to eat it.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

3.5 out of 5 stars.
