Hidden Froyo at Whipp’d Los Angeles

Fro-yo girl here. I was trying to get some froyo in Hollywood recently and I thought I’d check out Whipp’d. I visited years ago when they were at 7901 Santa Monica Blvd #106 in West Hollywood. They moved to 1429 North Highland Ave, Hollywood in 2017 and now share a space with Fat Tomato Pizza.

From the outside of the building, I didn’t see any mention of Whipp’d or froyo but I spotted the froyo machine inside. I think I only saw one machine (they used to have nine soft serve flavors a day). The place was tiny and cramped. I spotted a freezer full of Blue Bell Ice Cream. They still offer crepes, Hawaiiian hot dogs, and fried snacks. They offer Carbolite.

I didn’t have a great experience there. The hours on Yelp and Google are wrong (both say they’re open from 11 AM – 3 AM, but they actually open at 4 PM), no one answered the phone, and when I showed up in person to ask what froyo flavors they have, the employee couldn’t even answer the question. The hours on Menupages and Grubhub are also wrong. Their last post on Instagram was on August 30 and the hours on Instagram say M-F 6 PM – 3 AM and Saturday-Sunday from 12 PM – 3 AM. The website has no information other than the default generic Hello World, Welcome to WordPress. How can people figure out when it’s actually open?? Strange place. Apparently, other people have had the same problems with Fat Tomato Pizza. Based on my strange experience, I won’t be going back.

Grand Reopening of Razzle Dazzle in Upland, CA

Fro-yo girl here. Razzle Dazzle changed ownership last fall and they just celebrated with a grand reopening celebration on January 2. During the celebration, froyo was free and they also had a raffle for prizes (Razzle Dazzle gift cards). The shop serves 12 flavors a day of self-serve froyo and froyo alternatives (lots of Dole Whip) with toppings and sauces for 52 cents an ounce. They offer a 25% off discount for veterans and first responders. It’s more vegan friendly now and they added a big TV.

In addition to froyo and other soft serve, Razzle Dazzle offers acai bowls, paletas, and froyo for dogs. And there’s a rewards program. I spotted a BOGO 50% off couponon Yelp. Also, it's 25% off all weekend (January 4 & 5).

The power went out in the late afternoon but was restored at 5 PM.

Bella Frozen Yogurt Grand Opening in Downtown Los Angeles

Fro-yo girl here. I’m back from the Bella Frozen Yogurt grand opening and this is what I learned. First, it’s a small shop, so expect to take it to go unless you can snag one of two tables. Second, it’s right downtown – steps from the Pershing Square Metro station and close to Grand Central Market. Third, it’s not self-serve. Surprising, right? 

There are three soft serve machines, so they can offer 6 flavors at a time. There are two froyo sizes and the price includes one topping: Small $3.50, Regular $5. The toppings bar is smaller. Toppings include: fruit, marshmallows, cookies, coconut, mochi, sprinkles, candy, cereal, etc. You can add additional toppings for 25 cents each.

I ordered a small and the cup was pretty small (not much froyo), though I received a good amount of strawberries and a color changing spoon. I do like Tutti Frutti's original tart flavor. It's tangy, smooth and creamy. It's also flavorful. 

I noticed they had Wellspring soft serve machines, the ones offered by Tutti Frutti. It turns out their frozen yogurt is from Tutti Frutti too. It's a Tutti Frutti but it's not called Tutti Frutti. Since the other Tutti Frutti locations in downtown LA closed, this is the only TF in downtown.

The grand opening special is good all day today: buy one, get one free frozen yogurt. It looks like they close at 9 PM.

They serve Klatch coffee (a local roaster), Dole Whip, frozen yogurt, muffins and assorted beverages.

Service was friendly. They're open every day. Ask for froyo samples.
