Fro-yo girl here. On a recent trip to the Grocery Outlet, I spotted Hempz Wild Blueberry Yogurt Herbal Body Scrub for $3.99 (compare at $19.99 elsewhere). It’s limited edition. One bottle is 17 fl oz, 100% vegan, paraben free, gluten free, THC free. The hemp seed oil, shea butter, and essential vitamins soften your skin.
The creamy white scrub is dispensed from the built in pump. I could feel the exfoliating beads. I’m picky about my scents and I did not like the fragrance at all. It smelled like something fake, sweet, fruity and a little floral. Since it smelled awful, I didn’t want to use much. The list of ingredients is very long but doesn’t include yogurt.

Fro-yo girl here. I’ve seen Danone’s Silk Oat Yeah Oatmilkgurt since the beginning of summer and finally decided to try it. Target carries Oat Yeah Oatmilk and Oatmilkgurt. Oatmilkgurt is $1.73 for a 5.3 oz cup of yogurt, or more accurately, yogurt alternative. It’s nut-free, gluten-free and dairy-free, with live and active cultures.
THE VANILLA ONE: It didn’t pass the smell test. Vanilla Oatmilkgurt smelled like sour wet paper towels and glue. Unfortunately, it tasted like it smelled but sweeter, like tangy sweet glue. The consistency was thin and gummy. 1.5 out of 5 stars.
THE STRAWBERRY ONE: Fortunately, the Strawberry One smelled much better. It tasted like strawberry juice with a hint of oat. The consistency was like thickened juice. Not bad. I didn’t like how thin it was though. 3 out of 5 stars.
The Strawberry One was 80 calories per serving, 0g fat, 2g dietary fiber, 8g total sugars, 3g protein. Ingredients: Oatmilk (filtered water, whole oat flour), cane sugar, strawberries, faba bean protein, corn starch, strawberry puree, pectin, calcium citrate, fruit and vegetable juice (for color), citric acid, natural flavor, live and active culture, vitamin D2, vitamin B12.
Available flavors: Mango, Mixed Berry, Strawberry, Vanilla

Fro-yo girl here. I recently went to Papa Cristo’s for the first time. It’s a local institution, open since 1948. They started out as a Greek market and added the restaurant in 1985. They make a lot of things from scratch, including, bread, Greek yogurt, pastries, meat pies, etc. It’s still owned by the same family that started it. It’s probably the biggest Greek market in Los Angeles. Actually, I think it’s the only Greek grocery store in Los Angeles.
There is no Greek frozen yogurt but they do make their own Greek yogurt. I spotted five kinds: Greek yogurt (plain), “Extra thick” Greek yogurt, Greek yogurt with honey, Greek yogurt with sour cherry, and Greek yogurt with figs. It’s offered on the dessert and breakfast menu of the restaurant. You can also buy tubs in the grocery area.
* Homemade Greek yogurt ($4.99 for 12 oz): Plain, unsweetened, it’s tangy and sour in a good, natural yogurt way. The texture was smooth and creamy.
* Homemade Greek yogurt with sour cherry ($5.99 for 14 oz): The sour cherry syrup with a few whole cherries is swirled into the plain Greek yogurt. The texture was grainier than the other tub of yogurt for some reason. But in terms of taste, it had what I was looking for – tang and cherry flavor. The cherries are more sweet than sour, despite the name. The texture was thick and rich.
Their yogurt is good, but the yogurt I get at the farmer’s markets in and around Los Angeles is better.
4 out of 5 stars.

Fro-yo girl here. Yumi Yogurt just announced the final day for their Redwood City, CA location, Sunday, September 15. I think it was the first Yumi Yogurt that I ever visited. I used to work in downtown Redwood City, within walking distance of Yumi. I remember driving by it all the time and also wondering about the drive thru window (which I’ve never seen being used). I remember when they first added tart froyo and mochi. The child's size froyo was huge and satisfying.
Here’s the Facebook message from Yumi Yogurt:
“For the last 35 years Yumi Yogurt in Redwood City has been a neighborhood staple providing high quality yogurt and ice cream in a family oriented atmosphere. Our ultimate goal was to provide a service, experience and product that was unique, memorable and unlike anything else. It is through our great team here and loyal customers that we have had such a tremendous run.
It saddens us to say, that our time in this location has come to its end. Our last day at this location is on September 15, 2019.
We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to our customers that have made our journey in Redwood City possible and delightful by supporting Yumi Yogurt. Thousands of you have experienced this unforgettable place, and we treasure every memory with you.
We could not be more thankful for the opportunity to serve you all these years. We hope to continue to serve you at our San Mateo location, which is located at 3955 S. El Camino Real.
Thank you from our family to yours.”
At one point, I’d been to every Yumi Yogurt location. They had six but now there are only two left, San Mateo and Santa Clara. I wish I could make it Yumi Yogurt Redwood City one last time, but I can’t. A froyo friend says that the lease is up and they’re going to build boring office buildings there. According to the Mountain View Voice, the owner said the lease is expiring and "to renew would require an extensive renovation of the aging building that he can't afford. His business partner and uncle also died a year ago and it has been difficult to continue the business without him."
The Redwood City location was the first Yumi Yogurt location.

Fro-yo girl here. I have to say that Trader Joe’s usually has good yogurt products. They seem to like yogurt quite a bit, judging from the number of yogurt products over the years. This past July they introduced Trader Joe’s Organic Creamy Cashew Cultured Yogurt Alternatives. Their cashew yogurt alternative is dairy-free, comes in 5.3 oz cups and is priced at $1.69 each. The two flavors are Vanilla Bean and Strawberry.
Vanilla Bean: The texture was thin and the flavor mild, sweet but tangy. I could taste a hint of coconut and a hint of vanilla. I could see the vanilla bean flecks. Flavor wise, it tasted like eating a yogurt and I think it would be amazing in a smoothie or other recipe that calls for yogurt.
Strawberry: While the strawberry was considerably thicker than vanilla, it had a stronger bitter aftertaste and a pasty quality. The strawberry flavor was mild. I liked the vanilla better.
Ingredients (Vanilla): Organic cashew base (filtered water, organic cashews), organic cane sugar, organic tapioca starch, organic locust bean gum, pectin, natural flavor, organic lemon juice concentrate, organic vanilla beans, organic coconut cream (organic coconut, water), live active cultures.
One serving of vanilla is 140 calories, 6g total fat, 20g total carbs, 13g total sugars and 3g protein.
4 out of 5 stars.

Fro-yo girl here. Menchie’s popular OREO froyo flavors, Oreo Just the Cookie and Oreo Just the Crème, are back as this September’s feature flavors. This isn’t the first time that these flavors have returned in September. The two flavors were first introduced in September 2014.
Menchie’s describes the flavors as follows: “We used real Oreo Cookie pieces to make our Just the Cookie flavor a chocolate, creamy, froyo treat. Feel like you’re opening a real Oreo cookie for what’s inside with our Just the Crème flavor. This creamy vanilla froyo was made real Oreo filling. Mix them together for the ultimate Oreo froyo experience.” Oreo Just the Cookie and Just the Crème are back for a limited time, while supplies last. I like both but I slightly prefer Just the Cookie with chocolate shell and lots of cookies.

Fro-yo girl here. Yogurtland’s been busy. Not only did the Abominable promotion launch on September 2, but a new flavor from the Artisanal Collection arrived in stores on the same day. The new Artisanal Collection flavor is Strawberry Balsamic Light Ice Cream, made with real California strawberries and California milk. It’s gluten free.
Yogurtland describes Strawberry Balsamic Light Ice Cream as “Sweet and tart California strawberry with a rich and complex balsamic flavor makes for the perfect combo for a deliciously creamy light ice cream.” The texture was creamy and light. While it tasted like strawberry but the balsamic was quite faint, more of an aftertaste. I was looking for something bolder. Recommended toppings: raspberry puree, raspberries, mochi. Popping boba might be good but I never get those.
The next Artisanal Collection flavor, Ube, will launch on October 7. I assume that it’s different from their current Taro flavor. The Artisanal Collection is Yogurtland's fall flavor promotion.
Strawberry Balsamic light ice cream is available for a limited time, while supplies last.

Fro-yo girl here. Since it’s been three years since Yogurtland came out with new character froyo spoons, I wanted to have a separate post about the new Abominable spoons. There are two designs that are supposed to be in stores on September 2, 2019.
The light blue spoon features the blue yeti named Everest. The light purple spoon features a girl named Yi. The spoons are cute but they feel thinner. The back of the spoon isn’t detailed. It’s hard to hard to make out the designs. They don’t have the biodegradable marking on the back. They’re not as nice as they used to be.

Fro-yo girl here. It’s been a few years since Yogurtland’s last movie tie-in promotion featuring character spoons. The last one was DreamWorks Trolls in 2016. I’m happy to see a new movie tie-in. The new Yogurtland promotion for the animated movie, DreamWorks Abominable, launches on September 2. It features:
* Blueberry Avalanche Tart froyo: This seems to be Everest’s favorite flavor. It’s nonfat, gluten free, and made with real blueberry. It tastes like the regular Yogurtland Blueberry tart, a flavor that I really like. It’s thick, creamy, and full of tangy blueberry flavor. I'm told that they added more blueberry flavor, so it is a new flavor. Recommended toppings: mochi, blueberries, raspberries and Magic Snow Rings.
* Magic Snow Rings topping: These are white and blue sour raspberry gummy rings. They’re firm and chewy. Delicious!
* Two new collectible spoons: blue yeti named Everest and purple Yi (girl).
* Abominable limited edition collectible cup. The yeti is featured. I don’t know the names of any of the characters. There’s a mountain on the cup too. I’m guessing that it’s Mount Everest.
Yogurtland employees have cute blue Abominable t-shirts. Take your picture with Everest and share your froyo with him. Catch Abominable in theaters starting September 27.

Fro-yo girl here. A few months ago, I mentioned that the signs and machines had been removed from the Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt location in La Crescenta. I’d been checking the Tutti Frutti La Crescenta Facebook page for updates, as they mentioned that they were temporarily closed. After a few months of silence, I assumed that the closure was permanent.
It turns out I was wrong. Nine months after the old location closed, the new Tutti Frutti opened at a new location. The new location accepts the old locations stamp cards and has a similar look, similar offerings, and the same ownership (I believe). The opening day was August 10. The official grand opening has yet to be announced.
There are 14 froyo flavors a day and toppings for 54 cents an ounce. I noticed that the majority of the flavor signs were from Dannon YoCream. There were only a few Tutti Frutti flavor signs. Hmm. They also serve milk tea, smoothies, and slushies.
It was packed today. I walked over to Froyo Life which is about three blocks away and it was busy as well, but Tutti Frutti was busier.
They had Tutti Frutti cups but were out of the Tutti Frutti fruit spoons. I was hoping to see the Tutti Frutti soy flavors, but they didn’t have any.
Welcome back, Tutti Frutti!
You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.
