My Best Swirl of 2025

Fro-yo girl here. I’ve reviewed every single photo of every cup of self-serve froyo that I consumed in 2025 to answer the question, what was my best-looking self-serve swirl of the year? Of the 62 cups of self-serve froyo, I narrowed it down to two from Menchie’s in Valley Village.

The 2025 Winner

My best self-serve swirl was my first self-serve swirl of the year. It happened at Menchie’s in Valley Village. I selected original tart froyo and added Special Dark chocolate chips, mini Hershey’s Kisses, strawberries, & a chocolate-dipped waffle chip.

Most Viewed Cup

My most viewed cup of froyo consumed in 2025 was from Pinkberry in Los Feliz. The pin received 283 impressions and 7 pin clicks in the last 30 days. It was a raspberry white chocolate froyo with raspberries, chocolate chips, and a matcha macaron.

First Froyo of 2025

My first froyo in 2025 was a cone of Peanut Butter Prana vegan froyo from Yoga-urt in Glendale, CA.

2025 Stats

Out of the 161 cups and cones of froyo that I enjoyed this year, here’s how the stats broke down in 2025 vs. 2024.

  • Format: 38% self-serve, 32% pre-packed, 29% counter-serve in 2025; 52% self-serve, 21% pre-packed, and 26% counter-serve in 2024
  • Type: 84% dairy, 16% non-dairy in 2025; 88% dairy, 12% non-dairy in 2024
  • Number of flavors per cup: 88% one flavor, 12% multiple flavors in 2025; 89% one flavor, 11% multiple flavors in 2024

And yes, I did consume more froyo in 2025 than 2024.

You can see every cup of froyo that I consumed on my Pinterest board.

My Best Froyo Swirl of 2021

Fro-yo girl here. Well, it’s the last week of the year and I looked at all the cups of froyo that I had this year. I’m not done eating froyo this year but I’ll probably only have two or three more cups this year.

I’ve had 134 cups of froyo this year (well, some of those were pints) which is down from my 153 cups in 2020. My first froyo cup of the year was at Pinkberry Los Feliz; yes, it was original tart.

My best-looking froyo swirl in 2021 was a cup of New York cheesecake froyo with chocolate shell, cheesecake bites, graham cracker dust, Heath and raspberries from Menchie’s in Redondo Beach, CA. I chose more toppings than usual and placed them nicely around and on my swirl of froyo.

I didn’t have as many opportunities to produce a lovely swirl, since many self-serve shops switched to full service for at least part of the year; 59% of my cups were swirled by a froyo shop employee. In 2020, 76% of my cups were swirled by a froyo shop employee.

Eighty-eight percent of my cups in 2021 featured one flavor. Last year, 90% of my cups had a single flavor. Twenty-six percent of my 2021 cups were non-dairy compared to 25% in 2020. I’m so consistent! My percentages were almost identical to 2019 too.

You can see every cup that I consumed in 2021 on my Pinterest board.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Best Swirl of 2016

Fro-yo girl here. The year isn’t over yet and I expect to have frozen yogurt on New Year’s Eve, but I’m ready to look back at my year of froyo swirls and pick the best swirl of the year.

This year I consumed nearly 200 cups of froyo, slightly less than last year when I was determined to earn the Unlimited Cup reward at Yogurtland. I predict that I’ll end the year at I will have consumed 197 cups of frozen yogurt. You can see them all on the Pinterest board, 2016 Froyo Consumed by Me.

Cups that I consumed, a yearly comparison:

  • 2016: 197
  • 2015: 200
  • 2014: 139
  • 2013: 138

I looked at all my cups of froyo that I personally swirled this year to find my best swirl of the year.

And the best swirl is…a cup of Nescafe vanilla latte froyo with almonds, white chocolate chips and Andes Mints swirled at Menchie’s in September. You can see the swirl gradually taper upwards and the swirl ends in a nice firm upright peak. The toppings are carefully placed around the swirl. Yum.

I also like to look at flavors and toppings that I selected. I found the following:

  • 24.8% of my cups weren’t swirled by me (I went to a full serve froyo shop, last year’s number was 27.5%)
  • 19.2% of my cups didn’t have any toppings (the same as last year)
  • 89% of my cups had a single flavor (vs. 70.5% last year)
  • 4.6% of my cups were dairy free (vs. 4.5% last year)
  • 43.6% of my cups were from Yogurtland
  • 12.1% of my cups were from Menchie’s
  • 7.6% from Pinkberry

My choices are remarkably consistent. I don’t like mixing flavors. I do really enjoy the quality of Yoga-urt’s non-dairy soft serve and a few non-dairy options from Fraiche and Tutti Frutti. I tend to go to the places that offer new flavors. Despite years of swirling my own froyo, I still prefer the full service experience.

Want to make your swirl look nicer? Read IFYA's Froyo Swirling Tips and get plenty of practice. Practice does help because you need to swirl with precision but also have a relaxed wrist. For inspiration, check out the IFYA’s Pinterest board, Best Looking Cups of Froyo.
