Pinkberry Closes at the Americana at Brand
Fro-yo girl here. I haven’t been to the Americana in awhile, but this week I drove by looking for Pinkberry, only it was no longer there! So sad. The Americana (Glendale, CA) location was the best Pinkberry location in the area. I spoke to the owner in the past and she seemed to have a true passion for frozen yogurt. The texture and product seemed better and fresher here. The interior was cleaner. And I loved stopping for a Pinkberry while shopping.
The front was covered up by a sign that said “your new doctor will see you.” (goforward.com/Glendale) Forward is also taking over the space next door, which belonged to Jamba Juice. Concierge medicine – what a BORING replacement.
The last day was July 7, 2018. This closure hurts. I guess I’ll go to Pressed Juicery for a Freeze instead.
You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Pinkberry Introduces Green Tea Lemonade Frozen Yogurt, Layered Lemonades
Fro-yo girl here. Fan favorite Pinkberry Meyer Lemon frozen yogurt is exiting, to make room for the brand new summer Pinkberry flavor, Green Tea Lemonade frozen yogurt. I’m excited that it’s a tart flavor. Remember when Green Tea was one of the original Pinkberry flavors in the early days? Pinkberry Green Tea and Lemonade were both good frozen yogurt flavors, so my expectations were high for Green Tea Lemonade frozen yogurt.
Pinkberry recommends trying their signature combination, A Perfect Matcha. A Perfect Matcha features Green Tea Lemonade frozen yogurt with pineapple, mango, and matcha powder. I love matcha powder and I haven’t sprinkled it on frozen yogurt in a very long time.
There’s also a new line of beverages, Layered Lemonades – in Strawberry or Green Tea flavors.
- Green Tea Lemonade frozen yogurt: It’s really good! If you liked Pinkberry’s green tea flavor, you’ll love Green Tea Lemonade frozen yogurt. It tastes like their old Green Tea flavor, only tangier. The green tea flavor is definitely present and the lemonade complements it well without overpowering it. It’s tangy, light, and delicious. I was sad that the matcha powder wasn’t available. Recommended toppings: Raspberries, mochi, almonds, matcha powder.
Green Tea Lemonade frozen yogurt is available from April 27 – June 21, 2018. Layered Lemonades are available from April 27 – August 9, 2018. I went to Pinkberry Americana on April 27, but they didn’t have Green Tea Lemonade frozen yogurt. I noticed that several Pinkberry locations in this area, including Pinkberry Americana, don’t offer the new drinks, but the drinks are far less interesting to me than the frozen yogurt.
Thanks, Pinkberry, for continuing to come out with TART frozen yogurt flavors!!!
P.S. The flavor finder feature on the Pinkberry website is inaccurate. I kept checking it to see if Green Tea Lemonade frozen yogurt was available and it was for a few days, but the website didn’t list it.
You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Favorite Locations of Froyo Chains
Fro-yo girl here. If you’re lucky
enough to live in an area with many frozen yogurt shops, you may live close to
more than one location of the same chain. You may have noticed that not all
locations of the same chain are the same. In Los Angeles, the chains with the
largest presence are Menchie’s, Pinkberry, Tutti Frutti and Yogurtland. I’d
like to recognize my favorite locations of major frozen yogurt chains. Thank you!
- Yogurtland: The Yogurtland Pasadena location (415 S Lake Ave., Pasadena, CA) is by far my favorite Yogurtland location (I’ve also been to many other Yogurtland locations in the area – San Gabriel, Monterey Park, Alhambra, Eagle Rock, Old Town Pasadena, Montebello, Arcadia, Monrovia, etc.). Not only is the customer service extra friendly, but they keep up with Yogurtland promotions (e.g., if a collectible spoon or new flavor is supposed to be available on a certain day, this location will be ready and have it in stock). The location is clean with easy parking, the price is lower, they update their Facebook page unlike many Yogurtland locations, they participate in community events, they update the flavors on the Real Rewards app every morning (thank you!) and they have many promotions including the cold day discount, student discount, etc. They were one of the few locations to have a Kung Fu Panda 3 release party. On a sad note, they've never offered cookie dividers, they don't have the new syrups dispenser unit with Magic Shell and peanut butter sauce, and they need to rotate flavors more often. Bring back chocolate milkshake, flan, oatmeal cookies and lemon cookie.
- Pinkberry: The Pinkberry Americana location (459 Americana Way, Glendale, CA) is one of the largest of their locations. It’s also one of their busiest. The associates seem extra friendly here. They’ve had test flavors in the past. The décor is cheerful yet soothing and I do love strolling around the Americana outdoor mall. Parking can be a challenge though. The downtown Burbank location also is appealing when I'm feeling like self-serve. The sample cups are on the counter for easy sampling.
- Menchie’s: While the other Menchie’s locations in the area often don’t have the new flavors on the launch date, Menchie’s Monrovia (606 W Huntington Dr., Monrovia, CA) usually has those flavors. And when the other Menchie’s locations (South Pasadena, Alhambra) ran out of Menchie’s Alvin spoons, Menchie’s Monrovia still had the Alvin spoons. Menchie’s Monrovia has also been known to hand out coupons and they have more promotions than the other Menchie’s locations in the area. They're the best about answering the phone when you call. If you're in the SFV, Menchie's Encino (17245 Ventura Blvd., Encino, CA) is the best place to go - as the training center (aka Menchie's University), they frequently test new flavors and products and the froyo texture is always spot on (plus they're extra friendly).
- Tutti Frutti: Tutti Frutti La Crescenta (3731 Foothill Blvd., La Crescenta, CA) has all kinds of cute Tutti Frutti signs, plus cute TF cups and fruit shaped yogurt spoons. This location has more toppings and interesting flavors that I haven’t seen at other Tutti Frutti locations (e.g., cereal milk, peanut butter soy). They also carried soy frozen yogurt for a year but the last time I went it wasn’t there. I found light up Tutti Frutti spoons here. They also have happy hours, coffee and boba drinks. For SFV dwellers, Tutti Frutti Northridge (10186 Reseda Blvd., Northridge, CA) has better flavors, TF spoons, and drinks.

Glendale, CA Froyo Roundup
Fro-yo girl here. I recently completed my tour of the Glendale, CA’s froyo shops and found 5 shops that carry froyo, or 6 if you count Pressed Juicery, which offers dairy-free soft serve (technically not froyo). All but one of these shops is located at either the Glendale Galleria or the Americana Mall (the Americana is right next to the Galleria). It seems like life in Glendale centers around that shopping mall area. Go there any day of the week and it’s swarming with people.
The best froyo in Glendale can be found at Pinkberry Americana. This is a particularly nice, spacious Pinkberry location that often has test flavors and test products. They serve six froyo flavors a day and you can’t go wrong with their classic Original Tart with fresh fruit. Some of the limited edition flavors that I’ve liked recently include Lemon Lime and Raspberry White Chocolate. They also have the best froyo toppings.
Yoppi Frozen Yogurt at the Glendale Galleria has average froyo. It features 6 self-serve froyo flavors a day and a decent selection of toppings (fresh fruit, cheesecake, mochi, syrups, cereal, cookie dough, brownies, chocolate chips, cookies, nuts, sprinkles) for 45 cents an ounce. They also have gelato.
My Yummy Yogurt, which is near Eagle Rock, is below average but it does offer free wi-fi (though it’s not a place that one feels like hanging out at).
The froyo is self-serve with 8 flavors a day and a small toppings bar with cereal, candy, sprinkles, nuts, syrups, chocolate chips, brownies, mochi, chocolate covered things, coconut, and two types of fresh fruit for 39 cents an ounce. The fruit was stored in the back and it’s brought out when there are customers. The frozen yogurt is icy and bland.
Froyo is an afterthought at the two Haagen Dazs locations. The kiosk at the Americana only had one flavor, vanilla. The one inside the Glendale Galleria carries two flavors.
Pressed Juicery offers a tasty, vegan, healthier soft serve option that isn’t frozen yogurt. Called Freeze, it’s made with just a few ingredients and is 100% fruit, vegetables and nuts. Freeze flavors include Greens, Roots, Citrus, Fruits, Chocolate and Vanilla. You can top your Freeze with healthy, quality toppings: fresh fruit, spices, seeds, granola, nuts, almond butter, honey, rose syrup, peanut butter, Hawaiian pink salt, cacao nut freezing drizzle, and goji berries. Ask for samples (it’s not self serve).
Try the vanilla flavor (almonds, dates, sea salt, vanilla). It’s icy and not very smooth but very clean and fresh tasting.
Ice N’Cream at the Glendale Galleria used to carry froyo but they switched to soft serve ice cream. Godiva has Belgian soft serve ice cream in two flavors, chocolate and vanilla. I tried it - wasn't too impressed.

Pinkberry’s 10th Birthday Celebration
Fro-yo girl here. Happy 10th birthday, Pinkberry!
It’s not every day that an iconic brand turns 10 years old. They shared their
special milestone with their fans on Jan. 30 from 7 PM – 10 PM, offering small
yogurts with toppings for 10 cents.
The location that I visited had colorful balloons, birthday
candles (four colors, made out of edible white
chocolate), and edible glitter for your froyo. You could choose the
flavors and toppings that you wanted. I opted for the "birthday style" birthday swirl featuring two of their new flavors, Raspberry White
Chocolate (it has a tartness that I really love) and Sea Salt Chocolate, with
dark chocolate crisps, raspberries, edible glitter and a birthday candle.
Here are my pictures from the birthday celebration at the
Americana (759 Americana Way, Glendale, CA).

New "Test" Flavor at Pinkberry Glendale
Fro-yo girl here. The other day I strolled into Pinkberry's Americana location to take a break from holiday shopping and I was surprised to see a new froyo flavor that I hadn't heard about.
They just added "Popcorn" froyo. It's a test flavor! The flavor has a sweet base (not tangy). The texture was light and smooth. The popcorn flavor was more sweet and buttery than salty. It wasn't that dominant but you could definitely taste the popcorn. Though it's described as sweet and salty, I didn't notice the saltiness. It reminded me of their Butter Pecan flavor.
They also had caramel (pop)corn at the toppings bar.
I'm not sure how long they'll carry this flavor, so if you're interested, check it out soon. Call first to see if it's there.
You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.
