Fro-yo girl here. I found another yogurt-flavored candy while shopping at Tokyo Central in Gardena. UHA Mikakuto Puchao Yogurt Drink & Peach Gummy n’ Soft candy is made in Japan. A 3.53 oz pouch contains two flavors of individually wrapped candies and was $2.59, regular price. The square candies are about the size of Starburst but firmer.
Yogurt drink candies: They’re quite tangy and sweet, and they taste like Yakult. The texture is very firm but softens while chewing. They also contain softer flavor balls.
Peach candies: These were also tangy and sweet but not as tangy as the yogurt drink flavor.
These are flavorful, tangy, chewy candies. They’re both pretty good.

Fro-yo girl here. Since I discovered that Antioch, CA, had no froyo shops, I also discovered that the froyo shops are in neighboring Brentwood. Brentwood is also in Contra Costa County, and it has a population of 65,126. The city is known for its agricultural products and farming. The median household income is $144,484, higher than Antioch’s, and the mean age is 39.6 years.
Brentwood has two froyo shops, one eatery that serves froyo, and one froyo truck. I found six closed froyo shops and many of those were open for over ten years.
Current Froyo Shops
- Menchie’s, 2530 Sand Creek Rd Unit B-2, opened in 2011 at Sand Creek Crossing.
- Cool Spot Frozen Yogurt, 390 W Country Club Dr, Suite B, opened in 2016. It’s a locally-owned, non-franchise, self-serve froyo shop that also sells cookies, nachos, stuffed pretzels, churros, milkshakes, coffee, slushes, dog froyo, etc. They have another location in Brentwood that serves hand-scooped ice cream and doesn’t have froyo.
- Cool Spot launched a froyo truck in 2022.
- Nick the Greek, 5601 Lone Tree Way, opened in 2021. It is a fast casual Greek franchise that offers Greek froyo.
Closed Froyo Shops
- iYogurt, 6560 Lone Tree Wy, opened in 2010 and closed in 2024. It was a self-serve froyo shop that also offered gelato and boba drinks.
- TCBY, 4431 Balfour Rd, was open a long time ago, but I’m not sure when.
- Yogurt Jungle, 761 2nd St, was a froyo shop that opened in 2010 and closed in 2012.
- Yogurt Pizazz, 3860 Balfour Rd, was a self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2009 and closed in 2023. This was their first location.
- Yogurt Pizazz, 2455 Sand Creek Rd, was the second location. It opened in 2010 and closed in 2020.
- Yogurtland, 5411 Lone Tree Way Ste 130, opened in 2017 and closed in September 2022. It changed ownership before closing.
Did I miss any froyo shops? If so, let me know.

Fro-yo girl here. 99 Ranch Market in Arcadia and Alhambra just started carrying Walls Mini Ice (Cream) Cones imported from China. A box of 10 individually wrapped cones is $10.99. One box is 200g. I only saw one yogurt flavor, but I later realized that only half the cones in the box are yogurt-flavored. The other five cones are mango-flavored.
The cones look like Walls' (a Unilever brand) iconic Cornetto ice cream cone, but these are mini-sized versions. The mini ice cream cone is about 4 inches long. A box of 10 cones (5 of each flavor) is 200g. One cone is 54 calories, 2.5g fat, and 0.5g protein.
Yogurt flavored with mango gelee cone: The mango gelee is way too sweet but there isn’t too much of it. The frozen yogurt is creamy, airy, and smooth. It was less sweet than the typical ice cream but bland and not tangy. Thankfully, it doesn’t taste like Yakult. The sugar cone was soft and filled with chocolate. Because the cone is so small, it wasn’t too bad. I wouldn’t want to eat a full-sized version though.
Mango flavored ice cream with mango gelee cone: The mango ice cream was sweet and the mango gelee made it even sweeter. It tasted like mango candy, so it was pleasant but very sweet. The sugar cone was also soft and filled with chocolate.
I spotted other flavors: vanilla and chocolate, rose and white peach, blueberry and strawberry. Each box comes with two ice cream flavors.
3 out of 5 stars.

Fro-yo girl here. I found Atrion yogurt fruit gummies at Konbiniya Japan Centre in Vancouver, Canada. They had a few flavors. The candy was $3.19 for 1.66 oz resealable pouch. It’s imported from Japan.
Yogurt Fruit Strawberry: The gummy is circular and about the size of a nickel. It’s firm and chewy. The strawberry flavor is strong and the yogurt makes the candy tangy. It’s good but it does taste a bit like Yakult (I’m not a fan of Yakult) rather than yogurt. I do appreciate the strong strawberry flavor and tang. I would buy these again. I should have bought the pear flavor too.
You can buy this candy online from Japan Candy Store for $4.90 a pouch.
4 out of 5 stars.

Fro-yo girl here. This February, Menchie’s has two returning featured flavors:
Hershey’s Kisses Milk Chocolate Froyo tastes just like Hershey’s Kisses. And it’s also the perfect flavor for Valentine’s Day. The yogurt is gluten-free and made with no artificial colors and no high fructose corn syrup. Recommended toppings: mini Hershey’s Kisses, white chocolate chips, Special Dark chocolate chips, and brownies.
Gourmet Peanut Butter Gelato was introduced last year, and I’m glad to see it return. It’s very smooth and creamy. Pure peanut butter deliciousness. The gelato is gluten-free and is made with no high fructose corn syrup, no artificial colors, and no artificial flavors. It’s made with peanut butter and contains live and active cultures. Recommended toppings: Butterfinger, Peanut M&Ms, and chopped peanuts.
While National Frozen Yogurt Day, 2/6, is over, you can still earn double smiles on all purchases when you scan the Menchie’s app from Feb. 7 – 20.

Fro-yo girl here. Happy National Froyo Day! What a day!
It started yesterday at Pinkberry, since Pinkberry’s National Froyo Day BOGO free offer for Pinkcard members was from Feb. 4 – 6. I went to the Pinkberry in Los Feliz, and the employee knew about the offer. I didn’t see any NFYD signs. I got another cup of Yuzu Meringue froyo, the seasonal flavor, and Pomegranate froyo. The Yuzu Meringue froyo is nice but not as tangy as most of their tart flavors.
Today, 2/6, I went to Yogurtland Eagle Rock in the early afternoon because they had matcha froyo. Love matcha froyo. I also appreciate how Yogurtland announced the NFYD deal, BOGO free, weeks in advance. And they had one small NFYD sign at the shop.
In the afternoon, I went to Menchie’s Valley Village for the BOGO free offer. Menchie also was there at the top of the hour (every hour) for a meet and greet. Or at least I think he was? I waited for ten minutes at 5 PM and didn’t see Menchie. But, I was happy that Valley Village had the February featured flavors, peanut butter gelato and Hershey’s Kisses. And they had multiple NFYD signs.
I thought it would also be interesting to look back at NFYD in 2015. Back in 2015, Yogurtland celebrated NFYD on Feb. 2. They had free mini froyos, two new froyo flavors (York Peppermint Pattie and Hershey's Chocolate Milkshake), new toppings (York Peppermint Patties Minis and Hershey's Mini Kisses), free froyo, and a limited edition Hershey's collectible spoon. Menchie’s celebrated NFYD on February 6 with 6 oz of free froyo. Those were the good old froyo days!

Fro-yo girl here. I found out about the le zette pop-up at Maury’s Bagels in Silver Lake through Instagram. Le zette is an-LA-based artisanal maker of handmade sheep yogurt products. They started in 2023 with a Turkish yogurt drink called ayran, added yogurt dips last year, and this year they’re launching frozen yogurt which they call Not Baaad. The proceeds of their froyo pop-up are going to help with fire relief efforts.
During the pop-up, I sampled two flavors and took home a pint of sheep’s milk froyo for $15. They’ve tested a variety of flavors but during the pop-up, the two available flavors were Hot Honey Cardamom Crunch and Vanilla Bean & Olive Oil.
Both were super flavorful, complex, and tangy. The texture was smooth, creamy, and dense, without being too hard. They’re made with le zette’s own sheep’s milk yogurt.
Hot Honey Cardamom Crunch froyo had a lot going on, flavor-wise. It wasn’t cloyingly sweet. I could taste the cardamom (love cardamom) and I’ve never had it with hot honey, which is a bit spicy.
I took home a pint of the Vanilla Bean & Olive Oil froyo, made with sheep’s milk yogurt, organic cane sugar, olive oil, and salt. And I assume vanilla – but this wasn’t listed on the packaging. I could see and taste the vanilla bean. The olive oil was slightly fruity and it added complexity to every bite. The texture was a little chewy. It might benefit from a bit of air or some type of stabilizer. Plus, while it was very tangy, I found it a bit sweeter than I prefer.
Sheep’s milk yogurt has probiotics and protein. I didn’t see any specifics but sheep’s milk is higher in fat and protein than cow milk. It’s also easier to digest (less lactose) and more flavorful.
I loved meeting the maker and giving my feedback on the froyo. I’m excited to try other Not Baaad flavors and le zette products. I think their goal is to get Not Baaad into specialty grocery stores and bodegas like their other products.
You can follow le zette on Instagram at @drinklezette.

- Kalamaki, 344 S La Brea Ave, Los Angeles
