Purpose of the National Frozen Yogurt Survey
The annual National Frozen Yogurt Survey, sponsored by the International Frozen Yogurt Association, captures trends in the frozen yogurt market from the perspective of the consumer, including preferences, brand loyalty, and consumption. Fro-yo girl here. I found these Xiaomei ice cream cups at Good Fortune Supermarket in San Gabriel, CA. These ice cream cups are imported from Taiwan. I’ve had Xiaomei’s boba ice cream bars before, so I was somewhat familiar with the brand. However, I didn’t know the rich history of Xiaomei’s ice cream cups.
The founder of Xiaomei Ice Cream launched Taiwan’s first homemade vanilla ice cream in 1948. The ice cream is known for its taste and reasonable price. I imagine generations of Taiwanese have grown up eating Xiaomei ice cream cups.
The ice cream is sold a plastic bag that contains ten individually packaged cups. Good Fortune sells them individually for $0.84/cup. One cup is 66g.
Vanilla ice cream: The ice cream was fluffy, creamy but with icy edge, and with a strong vanilla flavor and scent. It was sweeter than I expected (too sweet), but pleasant. I can see it appealing to kids. It didn’t taste like high quality vanilla ice cream to me, but it was under $1, so I’m not surprised. It had too much air and was too sweet.
Available flavors: vanilla, chocolate, Swiss chocolate, yogurt
What? They have froyo. I have to look for it.

Fro-yo girl here. Save the date: National Spoon Day is October 7. Yogurtland is celebrating National Spoon Day by releasing a giant spoon, available for one day only, on Monday, October 7, obviously.
This year, the giant spoon is apricot. You’ll get a giant apricot spoon with every $12 minimum in-store purchase (maximum of 4 spoons per transaction). Third party delivery and online orders are excluded.
In case you’re wondering, the previous National Spoon Day giant Yogurtland spoons were: pink and green (2020), raspberry (2021), turquoise (2022), and dark blue (2023).
Serious spoon collectors will show up early for these giant spoons. Be sure to get yours early because they do have a limited supply of giant spoons.

Fro-yo girl here. I visited the La Fermière pop up shop in Silver Lake (Los Angeles) today. The pop-up is open for four days, September 19 – 22. It’s a shopping opportunity but they also have a few fun events planned like personalized terracotta pots, fresh flower bouquet workshop, astrology and tarot card readings, and more.
You can shop for a wide selection of La Fermière yogurt (including some hard to find flavors like Matcha Lime and Hibiscus Raspberry), their creme desserts, La Fermière merch (bamboo lids, spoons, tote bags, stickers, clothing, yoga mats), and a special dessert (chocolate creme with olive oil and sea salt). I wasn’t sure what to expect but it seemed like a place to relax, shop, and have a sweet treat.
The space is beautiful and chic. They painted the exterior the color of a La Fermière blue pot. They package up your yogurt so nicely and even tie the bag with a ribbon. Service was amazing. The person I spoke to was very knowledgeable and could answer all my questions. I think all the employees were French! They gave me an extra pot, the one with my astrological sign that I've been looking for.
Their yogurt and creme desserts, made with French recipes, are all delicious and all natural. And the pots are too cute to throw away.
Pistachio creme dessert ($3.50): it was a perfect small treat, creamy and sweet (like creme brulee) without being heavy or cloying.
I love their yogurt, especially the pressed lemon, rose, and jasmine flavors.

Fro-yo girl here. I’m not sure what’s going on with Kourellas US. Their website isn’t fully functional. I found their yogurt at the Grocery Outlet for $0.50 per container. One container is 4.2 oz. There were three flavors available: blood orange, cherry, and coffee.
The Kourellas own a dairy farm in Greece, the first organic dairy in Greece. I believe the Greek yogurt I found was made with New York dairy and primarily carried on the East Coast. Other than the Grocery Outlet sighting, I haven’t seen Kourellas yogurt in other stores (in the Los Angeles area).
Kourellas Greek yogurt is made with whole milk, cream, sugar, etc. It contains no stabilizers, preservatives, starch, added flavors, pectin, colorings, GMOs, or gluten. The yogurt is strained in the traditional Greek way.
Cherry yogurt: This is a blended yogurt. The texture was creamy and smooth. It did have a strong cherry flavor with a sour aftertaste. I like sour yogurt, so I found it pleasant and natural tasting. One serving is 170 calories, 10g total fat, 9g total carbs, 8g total sugars, and 7g protein.
Blood orange yogurt: Creamy with a strong taste of blood orange, sour aftertaste
Kourellas Greek yogurt isn’t as sweet as other Greek yogurt brands and it does taste like real yogurt and real fruit. I liked it a lot! Most yogurt on the US market is too sweet.

The Parlor, San Dimas
Fro-yo girl here. San Dimas is a smaller city in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County, about 30 miles northeast of downtown LA. The population was 33,535 in 2022. It’s known for Raging Waters and for being the home of Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. Bill and Ted attended San Dimas High School.
There are currently two froyo shops in San Dimas, The Parlor and Yogurtland. Both opened in 2014. Nick the Greek, the Greek fast casual chain, offers Greek froyo. The first froyo shop in San Dimas was likely Yogurt Station, which closed in 2014.
Current Places To Get Froyo
- Nick The Greek, 1045 W Arrow Hwy, opened in 2023. The fast casual Greek chain offers Greek froyo.
- The Parlor, 1453 W Arrow Hwy, opened in 2014, serving crepes and counter-serve froyo.
- Yogurtland, 468 N Lone Hill Ave, opened in 2014 in a strip mall.
Former Places To Get Froyo
- Costco, 520 N Lone Hill Ave, used to serve froyo, but they switched to soft serve ice cream.
- Yogurt Station, 618 W Arrow Hwy, was the old school froyo shop. I’m not sure when it opened, but it closed in 2014. Many reviewers mention going there since childhood.
- Yogurtland Express, 111 Raging Waters Dr, opened at Raging Waters in 2016. The Express location was not self-serve. It may have closed in 2019.
Like many of the smaller suburban cities, San Dimas is not the place to get innovative frozen yogurt, but it does have some good options. It’s also encouraging to see two froyo shops that are ten years old and one that lasted for decades.

Fro-yo girl here. I spotted Nestle’s 8Cube bite-size ice cream at 99 Ranch Market in Arcadia, the Shops at Santa Anita location They had several flavors, including strawberry, green grape & bergamot, chocolate, root beer, and orange yogurt. A 2.96 oz package contains 8 cubes and was priced at $3.49 each. These ice cream novelties are imported from China.
Orange yogurt flavor: The eight cubes come in a tray. The exterior is a thin white chocolate shell with small bits of crunchy biscuit crumbs. The interior was a creamy white/yogurt flavored ice cream. I couldn’t taste the yogurt but the orange shell was tangy and the treat wasn’t super sweet. The ice cream was pretty plain and the shell didn’t have much orange flavor either. Bottom line – it was bland but not unpleasant.
Orange Yogurt cubes are made with milk powder and whey powder but no yogurt. It contains no active cultures. One serving (two cubes) is 60 calories, 3.5g total fat, 7g total carbs. 5g total sugars, and less than 1 g of protein.

Fro-yo girl here. Menchie’s is featuring two new froyo flavors in September.
Golden Cereal froyo made with Cap’N Crunch cereal is bright yellow, like the color of Cap’N Crunch cereal. It was also very icy. I think it’s the fault of the location, Menchie’s Mission Hills. Menchie’s froyo is usually not that icy. I tried a few flavors there and they were all icy. Maybe it’s because it was over 100 degrees, but I told the employees and they said the yogurt looked fine to them. It tasted like sweet caramel syrup. Golden Cereal froyo is lowfat and made with no artificial flavors and no high fructose corn syrup. Recommended toppings: nuts, Cool Whip, strawberries.
Yumm Bubble Gum froyo did smell and look like your classic pink super sugary bubble gum. I can’t imagine eating gum let alone a cup of gum-flavored froyo. I overheard a young child call it “gross” and I have to agree. Who thought of creating this flavor? Yumm Bubble Gum froyo is nonfat, gluten-free, and made with no artificial colors, no artificial flavors, and no high fructose corn syrup. Recommended toppings: I can’t think of any because this flavor is awful.
The featured flavors are available while supplies last, for a limited time only.
I also got the new The Wild Robot cups that promote an upcoming movie called The Wild Robot. The movie will be in theaters on September 27, 2024.
Menchie’s also had a back-to-school special with double points for app members who scanned the app on September 3 & 4.

Fro-yo girl here. On September 8, Yogurtland had a one-day event for Laufey, the Grammy-winning artist and composer. The event included an exclusive flavor called Laufberry, which is described by Yogurtland as, “We've done the math — we promise you'll enjoy Laufberry, a divine strawberry-flavored frozen yogurt inspired by award-winning singer and musician, Laufey. It will be exclusively available on A Very Laufey Day, September 8, at Yogurtland.”
Yogurtland also handed out Yogurtland x Laufey sticker sheets. Each sticker sheet features 10 stickers, including three that mention Laufey. This is the only time that Yogurtland has offered collectible sticker sheets for one day only. It was also the first-ever artist collaboration for Yogurtland.
I visited Yogurtland to get the sticker sheets in the early afternoon, and they had already run out. The manager said there was a line before she opened this morning. Many Yogurtland locations had run out of the sticker sheets by then.
Yogurtland also announced a social media contest for the promotion. The prizes include Laufey-signed Laufey vinyl records and signed giant Yogurtland spoons. Follow Yogurtland on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok for more details on how to enter and win these exclusive prizes.

GRAMMY®-winning Icelandic-Chinese artist Laufey is the inspiration for the exclusive flavor, Laufberry. Laufberry is a divine strawberry froyo and it’s only available on September 8, along with Yogurtland x Laufey sticker sheets.
Guests are encouraged to post their Laufberry experience on social media using Laufey’s song, Promise and the hashtags #AVeryLaufeyDay and #Yogurtland.
Yogurtland will also hold a social media contest on September 8 and the prizes are signed vinyl records and signed giant Yogurtland spoons. Follow Yogurtland on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok for more details on how to enter and win these exclusive prizes.

Fro-yo girl here. Yogurtland has been busy lately. I mentioned earlier that Real Rewards members can enjoy double points every Tuesday in September.
You can also get free delivery on your $10+ Yogurtland purchase now through 9/6. Use the code 'BACK2SCHOOL' at checkout when you order from the Yogurtland website or app (minimum $10 purchase).
ICYMI, Cinnamon Sugar Cereal froyo is back at Yogurtland and it’s the newest seasonal exclusive flavor, replacing S’mores froyo. It’s made with real cinnamon. When this flavor was first introduced in August 2023, it was called Cinnamon Churro Cereal. The flavor description hasn’t changed and Yogurtland says Cinnamon Sugar Cereal froyo is a returning flavor, so the name must have been changed.
I tried it again and it was better this time. The sample I had in August 2023 was icy, but the one I had at the Arcadia branch was thick and creamy. The cinnamon flavor is strong. The cinnamon seems stronger than the Yogurtland Churro flavor and it also seemed sweeter.
