Yogurtland 2020 Sweet Treat Booklets
Fro-yo girl here. Happy Black Friday! I stopped by Yogurtland to get the new Sweet Treat coupon booklets for 2020. There are two versions. Booklet A covers the first half of the year and Booklet B covers the second half. During Black Friday, the booklets were 2 for $40. Otherwise, the booklets are $30 each.
Booklet A: You get 3 coupons per month. The first coupon is for $1 off, the next $2 off and the last is a buy one, get one free coupon. Then there are 12 more coupons, including an 8 oz free birthday treat good on your birthday, Valentine’s Day BOGO, Tax Day BOGO, catering coupons, 20% off your purchase, and free bottled water with purchase.
Booklet B: Like Booklet A, you get 3 coupons per month: $1 off, $2 off and BOGO free. There are 12 additional coupons, including a free bottled water with purchase every month, Fourth of July BOGO, Halloween BOGO, Holiday treat BOGO, catering coupons and 20% off your purchase.
The bottled water coupons are lame, but even if you don’t use them, the coupons are a good value IF you go to Yogurtland about once a week. If you plan on froyo catering for 30 or more people, they’re an even better deal.
The coupons cannot be combined with other offers, so I think that means no reward points. But with the birthday coupon, you’ll still get the birthday treat. However, you’ll have to use it on your birthday. The birthday reward gave you more time for redemption.
The coupons are only good at participating locations in California, Arizona, and Texas. I hope I don’t lose them again!
You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Pacifica Gets Its First Froyo Shop as Fog City Yogurt Opens
Fog City Yogurt opened in late October, a block from City Hall. The shop is very small but the building is older, so there’s not much room for more soft serve machines. The yogurt is self-serve and there are two Taylor dual hopper machines with four flavors on tap. The yogurt and toppings are 45 cents an ounce.
During my visit, the flavors were Chocolate, Vanilla, Orchard Cherry, and Cookies N Cream. The flavor choice seems very safe and conventional but with only two machines, it makes sense to offer the basic flavors. There were no dairy-free, low carb, no sugar added alternatives during my visit.
The toppings bar was small with limited options, including candy, cookies, sprinkles, nuts, mochi, chocolate chips, cereal, canned fruit, and syrups. None of the fruit was fresh fruit, which is disappointing.
The vanilla yogurt tasted fine and it had good texture (thick and smooth). It tasted like soft serve ice cream, actually.
The shop also offers gelato, coffee, soda and chips. It’s family oriented and meant to appeal to local kids looking for a snack after school. The décor is minimal and there’s no place for customers to sit inside. For a small town yogurt shop, it’s fine. I’m used to much more variety though.
3 out of 5 stars.

Results of the Third National Frozen Yogurt Survey
Fro-yo girl here. Last fall, International Frozen Yogurt Association (IFYA) sponsored the Third Annual National (US) Frozen Yogurt Survey to better understand the state of the US frozen yogurt market. As in previous years, there were two versions of the survey, one for frozen yogurt consumers and another for frozen yogurt shop operators. The consumer survey was open in September and the shop owner survey in October. The National Frozen Yogurt Survey is the only measure of national frozen yogurt consumer sentiment.
Frozen Yogurt Consumer Survey
The consumer survey was designed to measure the following:
- Loyalty
- Brand attitudes towards major frozen yogurt chains
- Frozen yogurt preferences
- Attribute importance of frozen yogurt shops
- Current & future consumption
- Purchasing habits
- Demographics
The results were quite similar to the results of last year's survey. The top 3 key attributes that consumers seek in frozen yogurt shops remained the same. The top 3 non-froyo items consumers would consider getting from a frozen yogurt shop did not change. Three out of four respondents expressed willingness to pay more for quality froyo, similar to 2018.
The survey measured liking for frozen yogurt chains with several questions. The order changed but the top four remained (in no particular order) Menchie's, Pinkberry, TCBY and Yogurtland.
However, there were some interesting changes. Loyalty as measured by going to a shop more than 75% of the time for froyo, declined. More people are going to get froyo without others compared to last year.
The respondents were younger and included more males than last year. Of the 214 respondents, 57% were female, 43% male, with 52% between the ages of 18-34. In 2018, respondents were 64% female, 34% male, and 41.2% were between 18-34 years old.
Shop Owner Survey Results
The shop owner survey was also an anonymous online survey. The survey asked frozen yogurt shop owners in the US about operational practices, shop and owner characteristics, supplier satisfaction, concerns, and shop performance.
The main goals of the shop owner survey were to:
- Provide shop owners with benchmarks to assess how they compare to other frozen yogurt shops
- Help suppliers learn more about how shops felt about their suppliers
- Provide an overall sense of where the frozen yogurt industry is headed by looking at trends over time
While more respondents reported that their business was doing better than doing worse over the past year, we did see an increase in the number of respondents who reported their shop was doing slightly worse. Fewer respondents expected business to be better in the next year compared to 2018 respondents. Rising costs are their main concern. Respondents were also fairly satisfied with their suppliers, especially their soft serve mix suppliers.
Thirty nine responses were received from frozen yogurt shop owners. Responses were received from shops across the country, with the most responses from California. Most respondents were owners of independent froyo shops who owned one shop.
Accessing the Survey Results
The full results are also available for $150 per report. To order reports or for more information, please contact info@internationalfrozenyogurt.com
A limited set of results is available for IFYA members in the members only Resources section of the IFYA website.

Menchie’s is Testing Froyo + Acai Superbowls
Fro-yo girl here. Remember back in 2015 when Menchie’s released Power Pomegranate Acai and encouraged guests to make their own acai bowls? Menchie’s is testing acai bowls again, only this time they’re combining froyo with acai and calling the creation a Superbowl. They’re using Sambazon Amazon acai. Several Superbowl recipes were provided, including the Super Berry, Tropicalicious, and PB Power Boost.
I spotted the Froyo + Acai Superbowls at Menchie’s University in Encino, CA. I also spotted new three new organic granolas from Nature’s Path: Love Crunch, Pumpin Seed + Flax, and Summer Berries.
I didn’t try a Superbowl because I just don’t like acai bowls. Someone must be eating acai bowls. At this point, many froyo chains have carried acai bowls, including 16 Handles, Orange Leaf, Pinkberry, Red Mango, and Yogurtland.
You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Menchie’s November Feature Flavors, Gift Card Special, Holiday Spoon, Holiday Cup & Contest
Fro-yo girl here. Happy Holidays! It feels like Christmas season starts the day after Halloween? Anyway, it’s the time of year for holiday froyo flavors. This November is a busy one at Menchie’s. There are two new holiday flavors, Frosted Cupcake froyo and Mrs. Smith’s Famous Apple Pie froyo. They also have a new limited edition holiday cup, a holiday spoon with two Sweet Friends on one spoon (one side with Kiwi, one side with Mellow), a new holiday spoon photo contest and a gift card special. The spoons weren’t available during my visit. If you take a selfie with the Menchie’s Snow One Like You spoon in your Menchie’s mix, post it on Instagram, tag @MyMenchies and use the hashtag #MenchiesSnowman, and make sure your account is public, you’ll be entered into the photo contest. The prize is a $25 Menchie’s gift card. One winner will be chosen every week in November and December
* Frosted Cupcake froyo: It tasted different than vanilla froyo…I guess it tasted more like vanilla cake with frosting. It was thick and creamy. Recommended toppings: Nilla wafers, white chocolate chips, and sprinkles.
* Mrs. Smith’s Famous Apple Pie froyo: I’ve never had apple pie or any pie from Mrs. Smith’s. I was surprised to taste apple first and then cinnamon. The yogurt muted the pie flavor so it wasn’t cloyingly sweet. I liked it better than the Frosted Cupcake froyo. Recommended toppings: pretzels and cheesecake bites.
There’s one new Holiday cup design featuring Menchie’s and his friends, Cup, Sprinkle, Kiwi, Chip, Mellow, Mookie, and Barry looking festive.
And the holiday gift card offer is back. When you buy $25 in gift cars, you’ll get a free $5 bonus card.
Don't forget about the Veterans Day offer on November 11. Active and retired military get 6 oz of froyo free with military ID.
You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

New at Yogurtland: Milk Chocolate Candy made with M&M’s Froyo, M&M’s Topping, Ultimate Creation, New Milkshake Flavor
Fro-yo girl here. I was happy to see that Pumpkin Pie froyo had returned to Yogurtland and they introduced a new froyo flavor and topping that complements Pumpkin Pie froyo.
Milk Chocolate Candy frozen yogurt made with M&M’s is described as, “We used real M&M’S® Candies in our smooth and creamy, sweet frozen yogurt for a rich milk chocolate flavor. It’s like tasting a million M&M’S® Candies in every bite.” And it did taste like Milk Chocolate M&Ms in froyo form. It wasn’t crazy sweet. Texture-wise, it was rich, smooth, and creamy. Yes, I’m biased because I like M&M’s. I paired this flavor with Pumpkin Pie froyo, White Pumpkin Pie M&Ms, whipped cream, and Teddy Grahams. It was the perfect combination.
The new topping is White Pumpkin Pie M&Ms. They’re big M&M’s and they have pumpkin pie spice. They’re actually tasty but on the waxy/chewy side.
I was also able to try the new milkshake flavor, Cookies & Cream. It was good (creamy, with chocolate cookie flavor) but I prefer froyo…
There was also a sign for the Ultimate Creation event. On November 12, 2019, come to Yogurtland for a special offer: $5 for any cup or cone.

Yasso’s New Gingerbread Frozen Yogurt Review
Fro-yo girl here. Yasso recently announced their limited time winter flavor lineup: Gingerbread, Peppermint Crunch, and Sugar Cookie. The Gingerbread flavor is new. I found it at Target where one box of 4 Yasso bars (14 fl oz) is currently $4.94.
The box with the gingerbread man eating a Gingerbread Yasso bar is adorable. Each bar is individually wrapped. There were different gingerbread men on the wrappers. Awww. One 65g bar is 110 calories, 1.5g total fat, 15g total sugars, 5g protein, and 19g total carbohydrate.
* Gingerbread: The bar was smooth, creamy, and light. The warm gingerbread spices were noticeable but not overwhelming or too strong. The spices were more mellow. I could not taste yogurt but I still enjoyed the bar. The bar has cream cheese swirls. Those are mild too.
Ingredients: Nonfat Milk, Greek Yogurt (Nonfat Milk, Yogurt Cultures), Frosting Swirl [Cream Cheese (Milk, Cream, Cheese Culture, Salt, Carob Bean Gum, Xanthan Gum, Guar Gum), Sugar, Invert Sugar, Water, Corn Starch, Calcium Carbonate, Cream Cheese Powder, Natural Flavor], Sugar, Gingerbread Base (Tapioca Syrup, Brown Sugar, Water, Cane Sugar, Apple Extract (for color), Natural Flavors, Corn Starch, Molasses, Cinnamon), Milk Protein Concentrate, Maltodextrin, Cream, Fruit and Vegetable Juices for Color, Hibiscus Concentrate for Color, Locust Bean Gum, Guar Gum
4 out of 5 stars.
