Wakayama Sangyo Yogurt Jelly Review

Fro-yo girl here. While shopping at Mitsuwa I came across a big tub of Japanese strawberry yogurt jelly from Wakayama Sangyo Zao. A 14.11 oz tub of strawberry yogurt jelly was $3.29.

* Strawberry yogurt jelly: The yogurt was soft in texture and it had a mild strawberry flavor with big pieces of strawberry throughout. It tasted like a strawberry yogurt drink. It was a little bland but I liked how it wasn’t super sweet.

Ingredients: Sugar, strawberries, vegetable oil, milk powder, etc.

3.5 out of 5 stars.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Pinkberry Peanut Butter Cup Review

Fro-yo girl here. Pinkberry recently came out with Pinkberry Peanut Butter Cup which they describe as “the creamy, blissful texture of peanut butter falls in love with decadent flavors of chocolate. It’s the perfect match of creamy and sweet.”

For some reason I didn’t realize it was a swirl of two existing flavors: Peanut Butter and Hot Chocolate. It’s much lighter than soft serve ice cream. I liked the Peanut Butter better than the chocolate because of the slight saltiness. The two flavors together were too sweet and didn’t taste like yogurt.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

3.5 out of 5 stars

Yogurtland Fan Choice Awards Winner: Mango Mixer is Most Refreshing

Fro-yo girl here. The last winner of Yogurtland’s Fan Choice Awards is…Mango Mixer, the Most Refreshing froyo flavor by popular vote. Mango Mixer is an interesting combination of mango, passion fruit, green apple and pineapple. The sweet mango flavor is the most dominant, followed by the tangy pineapple flavor.

Mango Mixer had the following message for Yogurtland fans, “I’m so proud to have been able to quench your thirst with the real flavors of fresh-blended mango, passion fruit, green apple and pineapple. Thank you all so much!”

Mango Mixer is available at participating Yogurtland locations while supplies last, starting today.

Congrats Mango Mixer!

Yogurt Candy Review: Kanro Candemina

Fro-yo girl here. I found another Japanese yogurt flavored candy while shopping at Nijiya. Kanro’s Candemina comes in a sealable pouch and it’s labeled as a soft candy.

The candy looks wavy and is a firm and very chewy gummy. It is tangy because of the sour powder coating but it tastes like a children’s chewable vitamin. The gummy part is sweet. I would like it better if it didn’t taste like chewable vitamins.

Ingredients: sugar, corn syrup, polydextrose, gelatine, dextrin, sweetened condensed milk, whole milk powder, acidulant, artificial flavor, starch, calcium carbonate, acesulfame potassium

One 1.48 oz. pouch of Candemina is $1.99 at Nijiya Market. You can buy it online from jbox.

3 out of 5 stars.

Fro-yo girl here. Yogurtland fans have spoken and selected Strawberry Lemonade as the Winner of Best Sorbet category. Strawberry Lemonade was the first Yogurtland sorbet. It was introduced in June 2012 and was an immediate hit.

Strawberry Lemonade sorbet had the following message for Yogurtland fans: “Thank you to my loyal fans who believed in my ability to be the most delicious dairy-free sorbet. Big shout-out to Northwestern and California strawberries for coming together with real Meyer lemons in a sweet-yet-tart flavor performance.”

Happy Froyo Valentine’s Day 2014

Fro-yo girl here. Happy Valentine’s Day, froyo fans! Do you think it’s more romantic to (a) share a cup of froyo or (b) treat your sweetheart to a cup of froyo? However you plan on spending your Valentine’s Day, I hope it’s romantic and involves frozen yogurt.

Akemi Ice Popsicles Review

Fro-yo girl here. I found another yogurt flavored popsicle. Akemi ice popsicles are from Taiwan. They’re very pretty with four flavors in one popsicle. Each color is a different flavor. There are eight flavor stripes per popsicle. The green is muskmelon, the red is cranberry, the orange is mango and the white is yogurt. The popsicles are flavored with real fruit juice.

The popsicle is soft and light with a texture similar to Yasso and Yolato bars (or think of fruit sherbet). It’s refreshing and melts in your mouth.

The fruity flavors are distinct but not intense. Mango is the sweetest. Muskmelon sounds exotic but its cantaloupe. The cranberry stripe was my favorite as it had a bit of tanginess. The yogurt stripe was the worst because it tasted like a sweetened yogurt drink (e.g., Yakult) and reminded me of the taste of children’s chewable aspirin.

Ingredients: water, sugar, fructose, milk powder, lactic acid, malic acid, cantaloupe juice, mango juice, cranberry juice, emulsifier, food color, etc.

3.5 out of 5 stars.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Menchie’s National Frozen Yogurt Day Celebration

Fro-yo girl here. Thanks Menchie’s for spreading the smiles today with free froyo for National Frozen Yogurt Day!

I visited Menchie’s today with the NYFD Menchie’s coupon for 6 free ounces in hand. The shop had pink and green Menchie’s balloons and National Frozen Yogurt Day written on the chalkboard. I didn’t see any NFYD signs. The Menchie’s team member had on a limited edition NFYD Menchie’s t-shirt. Some Menchie’s locations had contests and gave away these t-shirts.

I did get a coupon for 10% off from 2/7 - 2/14/2014 with the NYFD design.

Yogurtland Fan Choice Awards Winner: Best Bring It Back Flavor

Fro-yo girl here. Yogurtland’s Fan Choice Awards continue on and there’s a new winner this week. The winner of the Best Bring It Back Flavor is...Salted Caramel Pecan, by popular vote. I remember talking to a Yogurtland employee about the Fan Choice Awards months ago and she predicted that Salted Caramel Pecan would win.

I had a cup full of Salted Caramel Pecan today and it has a lovely flavor, warm and caramelly with a salty kick.

Salted Caramel Pecan had the following message for Yogurtland fans: “Some are calling me the comeback story of the culinary year. Thank you fans, for wanting another chance to taste my smooth caramel and exclusive pecan butter with a hint of salt. It’s good to be back.”
