Giant Yogurt Caplico Review

Fro-yo girl here. Even Caplico comes in a yogurt flavor now. I spotted it at Nijiya Market in San Mateo for $1.99 each. They only had one left.

For those of you not familiar with Caplico, it’s a Japanese baked wheat snack by Glico that looks like an ice cream cone. It’s supposed to taste like an ice cream cone too. A airy chocolate center is surrounded by an airy yogurt flavor exterior. The texture is very much reminiscent of Aero chocolate bars. It’s firm but not super firm because there are tiny holes throughout. The yogurt part tastes a bit like Yakult, sweet and creamy and it has tiny bits of lemon cookie for a bit of crunch. The chocolate part tastes better. The cone is crunchy and light.
One cone is 210 calories with 13g of fat.

I love yogurt but I think other flavors of Giant Caplico taste better.

3 out of 5 stars

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

New from Yoplait: Blended Yoplait Greek Yogurt

Fro-yo girl here. New Yoplait Greek features strained yogurt blended with real fruit pieces. Yoplait Greek is not Yoplait’s first Greek yogurt, but it is the first they’ve made with the traditional straining method for which Greek yogurt is known.

While there are many brands of Greek yogurt out there, the new Yoplait Greek tastes different than the usual Greek yogurt because it is much sweeter. Yoplait Greek reminds me of the regular Yoplait yogurt only with a thicker, creamier texture. Those of you who like a sweeter yogurt might like Yoplait Greek. The texture is soft, smooth and creamy, with almost a slightly whipped texture..

I tried the vanilla flavor which features a mild vanilla flavor. The flavor was pleasant but I found it quite a bit sweeter than what I personally prefer. It is an improvement from their earlier Greek yogurt.

Yoplait Greek with live and active cultures is fat free, gluten free, gelatin free, 5.3 ounces a cup, under 150 calories and has 100% more protein than regular yogurt. It comes in six flavors: Vanilla, Tangerine, Coconut, Strawberry Raspberry, Pineapple, Blueberry

The suggested retail price is $1.29 per cup.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Magic Color Changing Frozen Yogurt Spoons!

Fro-yo girl here. Everyone knows that I love frozen yogurt spoons. Years ago, I went to Berry Chill in Chicago and was amazed by their green color changing frozen yogurt spoons. I couldn’t throw the spoon away and it made a wonderful, practical, cute, and memorable souvenir. Berry Chill is no longer around but the color changing spoons live on thanks to Frozen Solutions.

FrozenSolutions.com has color changing spoons, cups, straws, bracelets, pens and pencils. The spoons change colors in response to cold. Some of their other items change colors based on body temperature, heat, sunlight.

The color changing spoons come in six colors. I think people of all ages like the color changing spoons. It’s an unexpected, fun and whimsical twist to the typical frozen yogurt spoon.

  • Orange turns Red
  • Green turns Blue
  • Pink turns Purple
  • Yellow turns Green
  • White turns Blue
  • Blue turns Purple

You can watch the color changing magic take place in my Vine video.

The color changing spoons are BPA free, FDA certified and food safe. Customization options are available, including imprinting names and logos to custom molds for cups, spoons and straws. For additional information, visit the Frozensolutions.com website.

Yogurtland's New Flavors: Banana Nut Bread & White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookie

Fro-yo girl here. Yogurtland just introduced two new freshly baked frozen yogurt flavors for the fall:

* White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookie: This rich, sweet, creamy frozen yogurt is made with real macadamia nut cookies and double roasted Australian macadamia nuts. Both the white chocolate and macadamia flavors are very pronounced. There isn’t much yogurt flavor (that tarty, tangy yogurt flavor).

* Banana Nut Bread: The banana flavor is very strong (but this is coming from someone who despises banana) and it’s made with real banana bread, pecans and cinnamon. It does have a bready flavor. It's creamy, sweet and probably really good if you like bananas.

My Frozen Yogurt Spoon Collection

Fro-yo girl here. I received a request to reveal my frozen yogurt spoon collection. I didn’t include all the plain Yogurtland pink and green spoons I have and I misplaced my Berry Chill spoons (I know I didn’t lose them). I'm so happy I saved my sno:la wooden spoon.

Yogurt Circle Closes in Daly City

Fro-yo girl here. RIP Yogurt Circle, which first opened at Westlake Center in September 2008, has closed for good. They started out serving eight flavors of self-serve frozen yogurt a day and over the years added other offerings, including crepes, a case of Mitchell’s Ice Cream, soft serve ice cream, and beverages.

The shop has seen better days though. During my last visit, the walls were dirty and the flavor signs were crooked.

Their 4 Taylor soft serve machines are now available for sale (contact 10locations@gmail.com).

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Welcome Snog Spoon to My Froyo Spoon Collection

Fro-yo girl here. Every summer my good friend, Yee Gan and his teddy bear, Ted, visit the US from across the pond (i.e., England) and we go out for frozen yogurt together. This year they brought a Snog spoon. These limited edition spoons were designed by Tomas Alonso of the Royal College of Art.

Snog spoons come in one color, hot pink, and they’re made out of shiny anodized aluminum. They’re only available when you purchase a Snog special or on its own for 60 pence.

There was even a Snog spoon contest where entrants posted photos of Snog spoons from around the world in 2012. Winners received limited edition prints featuring the Snog spoon and a week’s worth of free Snogs.

Isn’t it a pretty spoon? Thank you Yee Gan and Ted!

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Pinkberry’s Autumn Flavor: Butter Pecan

Fro-yo girl here. Pinkberry’s autumn flavor, butter pecan which they describe as “a light and refreshing reinterpretation of a coveted ice cream flavor. It features a smooth and creamy buttery swirl with hints of maple and roasted pecans that create just the right balance of sweetness.” To accompany the new flavor, they introduced a new topping, caramelized pecans.

I had a cup of Butter Pecan Pinkberry and the texture is definitely lighter and airier than ice cream. It wasn’t as creamy as I expected but it wasn’t icy either. I liked the lighter texture. The flavor is quite buttery, much more so than nutty. The nuttiness hits you after the buttery notes. It’s a sweet flavor, not as sweet and rich as ice cream but also lacking in real yogurt (tangy) flavor.

I did like the crunchy caramelized pecans. I wish there were other new toppings to complement the butter pecan flavor.

Rumor has it that Hot Chocolate will be Pinkberry's October's new frozen yogurt flavor.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Tasmanian Devil Devil's Food Cake Frozen Yogurt at Yogurtland

Fro-yo girl here. Taz, the last Looney Tunes character in the “Flavors with Character” promotion, inspired a new frozen yogurt flavor, Devil’s Food Cake, a new froyo spoon, a new cup and dark chocolate shavings (called Tasmanian Devil chocolate twirls). His frozen yogurt is rich and creamy and tastes like chocolate cake batter. There’s no lack of chocolate cake flavor. I really like those crunchy thin chocolate twirls.

Remember to scan the QSR code. Collect 4 codes and get 4 free ounces of fro-yo, 6 codes gets you 6 ounces of free fro-yo.

The Looney Tunes Flavors with Character promotion made my summer. I have six new frozen yogurt spoon designs and I earned my free frozen yogurt. Which Flavors of Character frozen yogurt flavor was your favorite? My favorite was Tweety's Lemon Cream Cookie and my favorite spoon was Marvin the Martian’s.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Taz Yogurtland Spoons Up Close

Fro-yo girl here. My local San Francisco Yogurtland did not have the new Devil’s Food Cake frozen yogurt flavor today (sad face) but they did have Taz’s dark chocolate shavings, cups and the spoooooons. Getting the spoons helped alleviate the anguish of not being able to try the new frozen yogurt flavor today.

I did check the Yogurtland mobile app to find the Devil’s Food Cake flavor. The app said that SF had the flavor...but the app was wrong (sad face).

Here’s a closer look at my Yogurtland Taz frozen yogurt spoons. They’re available at Yogurtland while supplies last. The Flavors with Character promotion ends on September 15th.

You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.
